Cute coffee shop with a nice ambiance. Inside you see art from local artists as well as advertising for local music and theater performances. The patio looked peaceful and would be a great place to visit with friends. I ordered a latte while the hubby ordered an espresso. Both drinks tasted good. Unlike most of the other coffee shops we have been to, this one lacked customer service. The barista was not friendly, bordering on rude. She was very annoyed when the hubby asked a question about what was on bar for espresso. She just told him the name of the coffee and nothing else. She proceeded to take our orders never once smiling, then just swung the iPad around for the hubby to sign for his purchase. We at first thought this was just her attitude, but when a regular came in she was all nice an attentive to them. This is a cute little coffee shop located on S. 1st in South Austin. It happens to be one of my husband's favorite in town. I like that they have several non coffee options to choose from. This trip I had the iced chai to accompany my breakfast tacos and it was delicious! I just wish it had been bigger. Plenty of open outdoor seating here too which is nice. Cute little coffee shop. Came in for a quick iced americano and cold brew as my bro and I were in desperate need of caffeine. There was no line on an early Sunday afternoon, though almost every seat inside was taken. The barista was very nice and made my order pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The prices are on par w/most higher end coffee shop w/my order coming to about $8 and change w/tip. The iced americano was for me and the cold brew for my brother. I love americanos and have many great ones around town and dare I say even SBucks, but the one here fell disappointingly short. It was nowhere as strong as it should have been aka weak and watery...it honestly tasted like when you let the ice melt in one watering it down, but this had full cubes of ice already in it, so not sure what happened for this to fall so short of the mark because it seems like a competent coffee shop. My brother's cold brew, on the other hand, was decent, but I have to say I've had better around town. Maybe I came on an off day or something. Next time I am in the area I will stop in a for a sit down coffee experience here as the patio seemed nice and I liked the vibe, I just really hope the actual coffee improves on my subsequent visit. The two stars are just for my americano (service was great tho and I hope to be able to add a couple of stars when I return because i really want to love this place!). Phenomenal, the people are amazing , amazing barista, and a lovely menu. Coffee just tastes like complete shit.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Austin, hands down, and I've tried quite a few of them. 1. The espresso is incredible. The lattes, cortados, cappuccinos, are always exceptionally smooth and creamy and exactly what they're meant to be if you're going to a heavenly coffee bar. They use Wild Gift beans, which are local to Austin. 2. Most (if not all?) of their syrups are house made. This is so important to me. They also offer a variety of dairy alts. 3. Their back patio is never busy ( hoping it stays this way ) so it's super tranquil, and right on a little river and underneath a live oak. Dogs are allowed at their front patio, not the back, but I don't have one, so no worries for me :). 4. El primo out front is a delicious, cash-only taco truck serving yummy breakfast tacos (best migas I've tried..) 5. They support local artists, and the art is always mesmerizing and unique to view on their walls. 6. The best reason why I love this place, besides the dreamy atmosphere, cozy energy, and actual best coffee in town, is the baristas. Stephen always has a kindness about him that makes me feel like my coffee is made with actual love. He's very grounding and makes the experience so warm. I'm blanking on the other baristas names, but there isn't a grumpy one in the bunch, and even if they are grumpy, they're still genuine and present with you. I'm here for that. In a city like Austin, there's so many different coffee shops to chose from. Once Over is my favorite coffee shop, and has so many amazing options to pick from. My favorite is the blended mocha with cinnamon and cayenne, it's sweet with a hint of spice. They also make a great cortado and dirty chai. They always have an assortment of baked goods that are fresh and taste great. The baristas are always so kind and friendly. The actual space is very cozy with lots of fun art on the walls, and have an awesome patio in the back. The best part is the prices that are substantially lower than other shops, and the quality that is also better. The only downside is the small parking lot, but it's Austin so at least they have a lot. Check them out!! read more

Home of the tiniest dog park in Texas, Once Over coffee bar has quite literally "warmed" my heart by making me the best hot chocolate I've had in a LONG time. Located on S 1st (conveniently close to Manolis and Sugar Mamas bakeshop) the inside feels almost like a cross between an Italian coffee shop and a hip bar. There's plenty of seating if you're here to work / just chill out... the cool part is that they have a little library of sorts at the entryway ! I know they serve alcohol at this location but I've never had an opportunity to try it here. The drinks are not pricey considering its location - and get this - you get $0.25 off when you bring your own cup! There are some baked goodies that you can enjoy with your cuppa (my favorite is the blueberry scone); they also have gluten free bread and Vegan cookies. This is a great little place for a pick me up, to work, or just to hang out with a book in hand. read more

While passing through Austin on my way home to Houston, I was looking for a local coffee shop to visit. This happened to be it! Situated in a homey part of Austin, this coffee shop had a good sized parking lot and property. I love their outdoor patio area, and I imagine at night, it's really nice with the lights! I ordered an iced vanilla latte with a strawberry banana slice they had at the counter with other gluten free/vegan baked goods from another local company. They paired really well together. My latte was good, but it was pricier than I'm used to. I think the menu said it was $4.40 or something like that and it seemed like maybe one size only. They do offer a cash discount, so for my 2 items together, it was just $8. Nice! Overall, cute, quaint coffee shop, but it's not something I would go out of my way for. read more

I've been to Once Over a few times and will say there is one thing that really stands out about this Coffee Bar. The outdoor patio is absolutely lovely. It overlooks a green area and is nice to sit on to do work or chat with friends. When it comes to the coffee at Once Over, it's decent, but in my opinion not the best. I wouldn't mind going there to order coffee, but it would mainly be so I can sit outside on the patio. I'm not sure what the current situation looks like in terms of seating inside and outside. Indoor seating is now open with masks, but what sold me was their back patio - it was spacious and very conducive to working. Really friendly staff and drinks came out very fast. The coffee was good, but the hidden gem is actually their chai! I would come back for it. Definitely recommend. They seem to cater to all demographics - I saw people with their kids getting brunch as well as commuters who had their whole desk set up or people just chatting at the coffee bar. If you're looking for a place to hang out or work, I would come to once over. The only problem is parking on South First. They have about 10 ish spaces out front which was plenty since I got there early, but I would either recommend getting there early or getting dropped off. read more

Visited this shop per the recommendation of a local, since it's my first visit to Austin. I must have been super tired and the iced blended vanilla latte sounded good, so that's what I had. If you like sweet, you might enjoy this. It was a little too much for me, so I can't say I'd recommend it. Should have tried one of their ice lattes (my usual) instead. Super delicious coffee and really friendly staff. They were especially kind of accommodating with my toddler that was inside the coffee shop. The decor and ambience was inviting and peaceful. I had an iced vanilla latte with almond milk and it was really delicious. My son enjoyed a very large pastry they had from their pastry case. Also enjoyed some of their hot coffee during the winter months and it was outstanding. Incredibly well balanced and delicious without bitterness and not being overly sweet. I came here to knock out some work and was greeted by a friendly barista who was happy to share his wide knowledge about their non-caffeinated options and tasty vegan treats. I opted for a Japanese green tea and a vegan cookie for just $6 total including tax (what a great deal) and settled for a cozy spot on their back patio since it was nice out. The inside is eclectic - adorned with 60s diner stools and local art on the walls, but they also have that killer patio out back that should not be missed. This coffee house was a FIND for us! We were actually on the hunt for a different shop which shall remain unnamed as they weren't open when we arrived. Being rerouted with the marathon, I just happened to search google maps and found ONCE OVER. After seeing that they were just like my favorite place in the world BODHI, I knew I had to visit. We walked up exactly at 8:00am on a Sunday morning right when they opened and were greeted by Stephen. His pleasant mood just set the tone for our entire visit. He helped us choose our drinks and treats and made us feel at home while we enjoyed our delicious drinks. They have a small doggy area out front along with a nice seating area out back on their lighted deck. The vibe of this shop is completely Austin and lovable. Good drink and good people. Stopped in here to get some work done because it was the closest shop to HEB. Got myself a cup of drip for $2.16 and was pleased with the quality! The shop was steady the whole time I was there and I felt like I could work with the noise level. Staff was friendly and responsive when I ordered which I always appreciate! Coffee was smooth and was hot! Bathrooms and place as a whole was very clean. Found some humor in that they didn't explicitly say that the restrooms were gendered but rather they just painted the restroom sign either pink or blue. One of them had a urinal and the other just a toilet. Thought this was a clever way of making everyone happy. I hope to come back on a day where I can sit outside! I would also like to try their other stuff. Not sure what they had on bar as far as a single origin or blend for espresso but perhaps next time! Overall good experience! read more

They take care of my order promptly, the service is casual, these guys are friendly and cool. I love the quaint, simple atmosphere. I look really good in their v-necks. Honestly, take a look at their t-shirts on the wall. I picked up the purple one - soft, comfy, deep-plunge V, it doesn't scream the establishment's name and I'll honestly end up wearing it a lot and get the satisfaction that purchases like these really support local business. I haven't explored their menu fully, but I will have plenty of time to do that. While the South First stretch between Oltorf and Riverside is the breakfast leg of my morning commute, I still have a few more places to visit... but I really think this may be my regular spot on the way to work. First time I came in here they had $3.00 beer advertised... not as a special. I could be wrong about that - Wrote it in a tip. Regardless, I like the little back patio as it offers a starkly different view and atmosphere from the front - foliage, soft glowy lights. Cute spot with a nice laid back feel. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in by two lovely baristas. I ordered the cappuccino and my friend the latte, all were nice and strong. Once Over offers a peaceful place to study and a beautiful patio area to chill with your friends. I felt very welcomed here and will return if I'm in the area. One thing that I found annoying was the parking notice on their door, a certain portion is supposed to be blocked off for the business next door and encouraged street parking. I parked there anyways, the business they are referring to appeared vacant. They should definitely consider marked parking spots so that a nice coffee goer doesn't get towed...not all people read notes. read more

Heard from a friend that Once Over was opening today, so I thought I'd stop in for a pick-me-up. Once over is a cozy coffee shop - just opened in La Luz's old digs. They've converted half the space into a coffee bar with seating, and the other side will be a retail shop which carries work by local artists. My Hot Chai was spicy, creamy and delicious, and my blueberry danish was fruity and moist... big thumbs up on solid offerings on the first day. OMFG! The espresso here is mindblowingly good, best I've had in town! I wanted an iced latte and was disappointed they don' t have any sugar free syrups. I'm not one of those supertaster types and I quite oftencan't pick flavors out of things. I've frequently been out with friends at other places while they exclaim over how good the coffee is and I'm thinking, "eh, not so great.." But this latte was super delectable. It was tasty enough without any flavored syrup. It is generally a pleasant and quiet atmosphere with friendly service. I've been here several more times since my last review and the experiences have been less than satisfactory. The biggest thing for me is the staff - they just aren't friendly. The feel of the place is "I hate my job. Can I help whose next?" Additionally, there is often long waits and the staff doesn't seem to move faster to get things going or even aware of the mound of customers waiting. Today I went in with my sister to grab drinks and food on the way to the airport. The person working was putting cream cheese on a bagel, but there were no other customers present. He took our order, slowly prepared it, and never made eye contact with us once. When I got to the car, my chai latte was cold! I rented an Airbnb less than a mile from Once Over Coffee Bar. So as I was walking around one morning looking for coffee, I ran across this packed coffee shop and I am so glad I did. The baristas are very nice and fast. I had their latte both Saturday and Sunday morning and it was so dang good! You can tell their coffee beans are high quality. Each cup is a little less than $5 which is the usually price. They have breakfast tacos for sale in the mornings, your normal coffee shop food such as scones, cookies and pound cake. They also sell wine and beer! And you get 10% off if you pay with cash. I highly recommend stopping here for your morning cup of coffee. read more

I love that the owner is always there making your lattes and your cappuccinos. They use what I believe to be an Austin roasted Cuvee coffee bean that is delicious. (correct me if I'm wrong) They have specific beans for different preparations of coffee. They have all sorts of newspapers for you to read or to fill in the crossword/Sudoko/jumble. They play good music (not too loudly), and there's just the standard clicking and clacking of young people on their laptops. Lots of seating as well as booze available. Yet another cool java place on South 1st! I've been here three times and each visit was great. I've never had any issues with the staff, etc. FYI, the parking out front is OK - certainly no worse than any other coffee shop in Austin (all parking sucks in Austin, basically). The interior is clean, tastefully executed and contemporary. To me, though, the patio out back is the best thing about Once Over - it is much more spacious than the pics suggest - the deck is huge out there and the setting gives you a nice sense of seclusion due to the heavy foliage. Bouldin Creek meanders along down past the decking. The coffee here is stout and it's a quiet place. What a great place to start a weekend! read more
