Today was my first time ever at this location. As I walked up to the counter to drop off my items to be looked at the staff member let out the loudest groan, huffed, plopped her hands on the table and dropped her head. It was so dramatic that I had to ask her, "are you OK?" Then, when I said I would be dropping off items to be looked at she said to me, " there are like 18 people ahead of you". She was clearly annoyed. I am sure it was a very busy day for everyone who was working but that does not excuse her behavior. Literally drove 45 minutes to sell clothes and arrived at 6:03 and the girl said she refused to accept the clothes because they close the buy counter at 6. Whole bin of high end boy clothes and they turned away when they had enough people to go through it even though she claimed they were "short staffed" . Will never come here again and I now see why the stars are so low. Save your time and sell on mercari! She said "oh yeah you can just drive up here tomorrow morning at 10 am and we'll go through it". Lots of bargains to be found here--we came here when I saw they were having a special (20 onesies for $10). Saw lots of gently used merchandise for very reasonable prices. Staff seemed preoccupied--waited in line for 15 minutes (one person ahead of me) while one cashier worked, and four talked to each other on the side. The store is overall very organized and it's easy to find what you're looking for. They have a rewards/perks programs too which would be nice to take advantage of if you're a regular customer. This store has gone downhill. None of the employees are helpful or nice. It is NOT child friendly. I went to get shoes for my older child and my 3 yo went to grab a truck to play with while I looked at shoes. I was told my kid was NOT allowed to play 7 feet from me. My child has always been behaved and respectful in that store. That I had to be with him at all times, i was. I am pregnant with my third and have used this store to get all of my things for all of my kids. I will NOT be back. The manager is rude and clearly hates her job and all the customers. I think this place is OK, some things are great, other areas lack. On the plus side they have gently used items for deeply discounted prices. But the attitude of the staff is poor. They are not friendly, and zi once waited almost half an hour to be cashed out because the staff was gossiping about other staff (quite an interesting conversation, within earshot of customers). Went there today to sell a lot of clothes that my daughter doesn't fit into anymore and a very expensive baby swing. I was told the wait was going to be an hour and a half even though it didn't seem all that busy. Anyway, an hour goes by and they finish up with my things. I wait in line only to be told they will give me $20 for a few things. I have no idea what they bought since they don't keep track and was told they didn't want the other clothes and swing because they were stained. This is completely untrue since I went through all the clothes 1 by 1 before I brought them in to make sure they were in good condition. The swing was used maybe a dozen times if that and had 1 small stain on the buckle that could easily wipe off. I drove over an hour to this store to basically be insulted and treated poorly. They did the same thing with the person in front of me who was not happy either. I don't care so much about the clothes since I want expecting much anyways (I have sold clothes at a different location so I knew what to expect) but the swing really bothered me. I called before hand to make sure they took swings since it's a pain to transport and they even say they do on their Facebook page. I don't buy the excuse there was a stain on it because I saw MANY things in the store that were filthy and gross. One costume I picked up had a large stain on the ear that was clearly visible as well as several other articles of clothing. This is obviously just an excuse they use with everything they don't want or need (I heard them tell 3 other people the same thing). Dropped off some clothes on a Saturday and explained that I would not be able to pick up my check until Sunday. I normally go to a store closer to my house, but that store had too long of a line. They said that was fine. I then got called into work on Sunday so I couldn't make it in. I called them and explained the situation. The girl explained to me that if I don't pick it up after 48 hours, that I can't receive a check and would have to take store credit. I asked if I could please make an exception and give me a day extension. She told me that she would leave a note for the manager but that it shouldn't be a problem. It is now Monday and I just went to the store. The manager told me that she never got the note from the employee and that the stuff has already been distributed into the store. I asked if she could still make an exception and cut me a check and she said no that the computer wouldn't allow her to do it. I then asked her if I could use my store credit at any Once Upon a Child store and was informed that I can only use it at this store. I'm very disappointed how this situation panned out and have no intention of returning to this store after I use the store credit. I may very well stop shopping at Once Upon a Child all together. The only reason I did not give a one-star rating is because I imagine that somewhere in the fine print of what I signed was the information that after 48 hours I cannot get a check. read more

Worst once upon a child ever! Drive 35 minutes there for my daughters swing to be told it was dirty! Mind you I already waited two hours ! The swing was white had no stains nothing on it, looked brand new and never used. So they said that I left and went to the other once upon a child in Wethersfield and they bought it immediately said it was in perfect shape especially to be white!!!! Manchester once upon a child doesn't even look just decides to think it's dirty!! Employees are extremely rude! Owners if you want to have future customers teach your employees how to be proper employees when working with customer service. A lot of moms and parents come here to sell things, some are in desperate need of money! I used to love shopping here but now that I went to sell some clothes I don't think we'll be back. The woman at the counter was EXTREMELY RUDE to me. First of all, have some compassion I have a tired two year old in my arms as she's obnoxiously telling me what to do and where to put my stuff. Then when I returned they maybe took 1/4 of what I brought to sell. I didn't even bother asking why. I'll take my PERFECT CONDITION Nike/Carter/Gap Children's clothes to marketplace. This is a really cute little store! I love that my peops can get some money back from the things their children have outgrown. The store is rather jam packed with very stacked shelves and piles of things by the door that are waited to be evaluated and sold. They don't always hit the time window of when they tell you to pick up your items/check. But they are, in general, very nice employees. Mixed feelings about the Manchester location. Pros: Large variety of merchandise, many choices to sort through so it does take some time and leg work on your behalf. Most prices are reasonable, occasionally some things are priced too high for their condition and actual value. You can get cash on the spot for the items you sell, or an even greater value in store credit. Selection is constantly changing. Cons: Staff can be rude and not very knowledgeable about their job. Alot of young kids who don't seem to really care about the job and spend more time gossiping and bad mouthing other Co-workers and even customers... Always takes longer then told to go through the items you want to sell. Small percentage back on what they do accept. Quite picky and inconsistent with what they choose to buy from you. I guess it depends on what staff member you get at the time. Sometimes they take everything and u get decent money for it. Other times they reject just about everything and give u pennies for what they accept. Their website lists items and brands they take and want, but it's a different story when u bring it in. I was told once they didn't take a ton of brands even though I've sold them these brands before and have bought those brands there plenty of times before, and they advertise they buy them! They say they buy books, I brought in a bunch of brand new books and they rejected all of them stating they don't take books and only certain ones by certain writers and publishers.. Also told they don't buy seasonal or holiday items, once again going against their advertisement. Also told both multiple piece outfits.... Maybe another location is better... Rude scald children if they touch any toy, 6 times in one visit , and was there buying items, just plain nasty about it , do not shop here they are buying items penny to the dollar , and them threaten you if your child touches a stuffed animal, had a whole display turned around because a 2 years old was touching toys, they said you can only touch a toy if your buying it, they say they have new rules , well simply make a sing that states " please be respectful and responsible and put it back any iteams your child might of misplaced, thank you , management" but no , there other reason given was , people let there children steal toys , just ridiculous for a child based business to behave, again think twice before you touch anything , or shop there!! read more

My review echos many of the sentiments posted about this location and their Wethersfield location. They are good to buy from but really stink when you want to sell back the same items you previously bought from them! (clothes have all the buttons, no stains, no rips, purchased from OUAC, etc). The owner, Brian, should pay attention...I think he owns/franchises 18 stores and it is always the same recurring issues: rude employees and problems buying back. I brought in a single bag of quality stuff from Lands End, Nautica, etc. They said it would take 4 hours to process when they had at least 6 employees there, with 2 doing buybacks! Went in tonight with 4 totes of clothes. Was told would be ready in an hour. Thought that was really quick for all the clothes I brought in. When I called an hour later it was ready and they only offered me $13 for 4 large totes of clothes. Said they couldn't take my stuff because of staining. None had stains in fact they were still new with original tags. When I turned around to go drop them off at the donation bin near stop and shop I opened the totes and noticed half my stuff hadn't even been touched. The clothes were still folded the way I folded them. What a waste of time. Staff was so rude, acted as if I was bothering them. Never ever again. I won't tolerate being lied to. read more

A very picky consignment store (bad if you are selling back, good if you are buying, and you will). What makes this place unique is that it really is a high-quality consignment kids clothing and toy store. Brand names like Gymboree, Gap, etc at low prices. PLUS if you get the discount card you can quickly collect stamps for every $10 you sell back OR buy, and that adds up quickly to you getting 15% off a purchase. Ever since my son was born at the nearby Manchester Memorial hospital (recommended!), we have been buying him stuff from there. I feel good knowing that I am doing my bit to recycle (think of the tons of plastic that goes into make new toys every year when there are ton of perfectly good gear sitting in people's homes), and that I am letting someone else take the hit for paying for brand names. Con: The employees always seem to be young, trashy-looking women who (?) don't have kids. Con: They close at 8 and stop buying back stuff at 6:30 but they don't post this essential bit of info on their site. I have seen people get turned away (in a very unapologetic manner). read more

I agree with almost all the other posts about this location. I have bought things from this location and brought them back because my daughter never wore them and they wont take it back because of staining? I have also purchased a onesize and shorts together and cant bring them back because they are supposed to be sold with three pieces..(sold to me without a cardigan.. ) so buyers beware. The staff is somewhat young and can be trashy, (I have witnessed almost all the staff talking about how they don't get breaks and speak ill of the manager when she steps out of the store on several occasions). On another note- this store does have some of the best inventory around, I find the best deals here for toys, clothes and furniture. I prefer this location over Wethersfield, but enfield is my favorite! read more

Great help for new mom and grandma. Their log is to buy sell and repeat. If you sell and don't buy you are subject to be banned from the store. I am a grandma with too many grandkids I don't get to buy but I get to sell. I was bringing clothes to sell every other day because I am moving from three bedrooms to one. The store manager Michelle and Stephanie from store from hell in Manchester told me they need to protect the store and banned from selling to them gently clothes in top of it their professionalism is so poor that the hole store knows about It is so sad I see why their rating is so low unfortunately their management needs more social skills and be so prejudice Towards people. I used to make from 4 dollars to 30 Excuse me Protecting the store or been prejudice. Only in Manchester I suggest everybody goes to Wethersfield nice people professional and very Clean. I won't be going back. I am having surgery so I was buying a couple of safety gates to contain my dog so she wouldn't pull me on the leash. First, when I was standing at the check out I didn't hear another customer trying to pass by behind me because the music was playing and I was talking with the clerk. As soon as I heard her I tried to squeeze closer to the counter but with holding the gates in front of me it was difficult. This lady was rude to me as she passed then commented to the whole store that I stubbornly refused to move which wasn't true. Now I'm embarrassed and the clerk copped an attitude because I was buying the gates for my dog. In my day a sale is a sale. I won't be going back because I felt emotionally pummeled by the experience. I suggest avoiding this store. read more

If you want to just eat rid of your cloths and get a LITTLE amount of money this place is perfect for you but if you have good cloths that you think deserve a good amount of money DO NOT COME to this place I brought in a big box of cloths (about 35 pieces of cloths) filled with cloths that I barely wore and I only received 11 dollars. This place is not worth it. If you want your good cloths to be worth it donate it but do not go to this store it take your good cloths and give you the smallest amount of money. But I also had a box for my brother and he put a very expensive under armor shoes in there and apparently it was not found in his box and he brought in four very expensive good shoes and about 30 pieces of cloths and only received 21 dollars this place is TERRIBLE. read more

Never again will I have any dealings with Once Upon a Child in Manchester. I took a whole bunch of stuff in there on Thursday and was very happy with what they paid me. I found the owners manuals for items they bought (2 GoGo Babies travel strollers, a Graco double stroller/sit and stand and a Mai Tai Carrier) and I also found a few items that were parts of sets of clothes that came home with me. Me being nice, I took the owners manuals and the pieces that they had already paid for back into the store today. I was told that they don't take parts of sets and they would see if they could find the items and put the manuals with them. Then I was asked by I can only assume was the manager, if I brought the things in in bags. I said yes and she said that my items surely came in in a jumble from when I brought them in. I told her there was no way and was informed that she was sure it was a mess from being in the car and moving them from the car to the store, because she has been doing this for many years. I also did not get so much as a thank you. If you are wondering how my items were taken in the store, I had small 4 gallon trash bags with matched sets by sku number, folded together. Each bag may have had 6 to 8 sets and were tied with a half knot. These were in a large tote bin, a large Carters bag, and 2 Boat and Tote bags from LL Bean. Bags were separated by 2 piece sets, 3 piece sets, 4 piece sets, onsies were in sets as they came from carters. Pants that were bought new in a set of 2 were folded together in sets of 2. If you happen to go there and buy an adorable outfit with blue and green striped pants with a moose on the bum and a short sleeve onsie with a moose on it you will not be getting the navy blue long sleeve onsie that says built tough that goes with the other two pieces. You can ask them but it probably got thrown away. There was a manager there on Thursday (maybe Amy) who was very nice but the rest of the staff is rude and obnoxious. read more

They make it easy by buying your items outright. Then you know what you are getting and you do not have to return to claim your money. If you need anything you can buy it in the same trip. If you have a lot to sell, bring someone with you or leave the young ones with someone because it is a hike to the parking lot and you wouldn't want to leave the baby alone in the car. read more

What I don't like is the negative experience I've had every time I've gone into the store whether it's to just look or sell back or buy. The staff are very rude and make you feel like you are bothering them and putting them out of their way for them to do their own job. I really like shopping at once upon a child, but I have never sold to them. They have very good prices, especially during sales or in conjunction with coupons or rewards discounts. As far as the Manchester location I like that they have a play area I can put my toddler for a little while I shop, but the associates there are not very friendly and the store tends to be cluttered and just not be the best. If I have a discount or there is a sale I go, and I only choose Manchester because it is the closest to where I live. I would advise calling ahead if you need a specific peice of furniture or baby equipment. read more

This place is horrible... some of the staff were pleasant but the management was absolutely rude and atrocious... the items are incredibly low-quality but slightly higher quality than the employees... any other location in the state is much better than this one... I wouldn't recommend them for selling items or purchasing them and honestly I feel like they should be shut down by the Better Business Bureau nobody should ever be treated with the amount of disrespect that was shown there... I brought in a several hundred dollar item in perfect condition for sale and they offered me under $10 and then treated me with disrespect when I questioned the low ball amount ( used online the products still sells for $200) they were the opposite of helpful and when I told them that they were being incredibly disrespectful they acted with nothing short of complete apathy... I wouldn't recommend these people to my worst enemy... do yourself a favor and go to any other location in the state and boycott the Manchester location until they're shut down for good... now that I'm done writing and I'm finishing up this post I'm now going to make a phone call to corporate and complain directly about the location as well as specific employees there... just stay away you guys seriously they all need a serious retraining course on customer service and just general human decency read more

Twice now I have gotten shoes there for my 4 year old and they were miss matched. One time one was a size 10, one was a size 8, and the other time they were both left footed shoes. It wasn't worth it to drive far away to return them. I have also noticed to really check over clothes there. I have found quite a few damaged ones. Very picky and without reason, I bought a dress from them which they wouldn't let me return after it didn't fit my daughter, so i bring it in with a bag of other clothes I was selling and they didn't accept it back! I've shopped here for 5+ years and today was the last straw. I've brought toys & clothes in and received meager 'rewards', the way I looked at it was better than nothing. BUT manger at this location is unfair! I shopped at the 'bag sale' and picked up pajamas that were mismatched... the tops and bottoms were different sizes so I went in less than 24 hrs later to exchange for something my granddaughter could wear, tag still on receipt in hand, I was told I would owe a $1.20 for something of the SAME price. Really the manager said it was a one day sale, ok I get that but it was NOT my mistake, I bought a set in good faith and just wanted to EVEN exchange it for some pj's SAME price.... got my money back. Workers there are always kind but the manager is not! Not the first time but certainly the last time. I cannot recommend the Manchester store.
