V6 - grilled pork and spring roll vermicelli bowl.
    Lisa S.

We decided to try out this restaurant . For a Friday night, it wasn't busy at all. There was only one other table and don't recall seeing any take out or uber eats orders. We each ordered a meal and I ordered mine without peanuts but my friend wanted peanuts in her meal. Both came without peanuts. We didn't bother. The server was busy doing other things all night and didn't come to check on us or refill our tea until asked. While portions are huge, the food taste was mediocre. Not sure we will be back. I'll stick to our regular viet restaurant down the block. Thought we would try something new but it's safe to say we should have stuck with what we know.

Had an amazing lunch with family here yesterday. Small modern Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria Drive. Not your average pho place. Menu and all the favorites and more. We tried various rare beef pho, chicken pho, meat rice roll, bbq meat bun vermicelli and chicken Banh Mi. The portions are large and food is fresh and delicious. Comfy tables and half booths great for small and large groups. Lots of options for drinks as well. Will definitely come back again !

The ambiance was quaint, and the service was alright with the number of people at the time. I ordered the lemongrass chicken. It was good but kind of bland for being lemongrass chicken. 3 deboned chicken legs, some dry ish rice rice, needed to pour some fish sauce on it l, and some veggies on the side. Like that they are a late night meal

Ordered take out and the noodles were too soft. I've ordered take out pho before, but perhaps with Viet Mama, since it's a Northern Vietnamese joint and they use wider/flatter noodles it's better to eat in the restaurant. The soup had good flavor though. I also ordered the chicken with sticky rice and it could use a bit more salt. I still give 3/5 stars because it's not bad. I added soy sauce to my chicken and rice - it was much better after.

Go to place for lunch, dinner and late night dinner. Food portions are large and prices are good. Service is hit and miss, but with young people worker, it's a very casual environment. Highly recommended whether you're tight on budget, want large portions, want good tasting food, or want a late night place to hang out and eat. There's so much meat in the pho and in the banhmi.

In an area with competitive Vietnamese restaurants, Viet Mama is one of the stand out stars. My friend and I shared so to sample as much as possible. The grilled pork (Banh Mi Thit Nuong) came out temperature hot and the bread was so crispy and stuff with good amount of veggies. When simple stuff is made right then I knew it could only get better. The coffee, we had one hot and one cold, came to the table ready to drink and not needing to wait for the slow drip. Creamy, smooth and strong. For the noodles, we had the Spicy Think Vermicelli. This soup dish originate from the middle of Vietnam and can be very spicy. This one was but I was able to make it though. If you won't like or can't take spicy food then this dish it not for you. Lastly, vermicelli with spring roll and lemongrass chicken was delicious. I like they gave the table a larger pourable contain with fish sauce instead of the little dipping dishes which can be messy. Service was friendly and attentive. Will be back.

After 830 pm, this cafe was one of the only places on the block still open. Very casual, only a few tables were taken. Takeout order arrived very quickly. Spring rolls were fresh and hot, hand-rolled and fried to the perfect crunchy golden. I'm still not sure if the filling was mostly pork, chicken, or mushrooms with some vegetables and a clear slightly sweet dipping sauce. The chef's choice pho was huge and perfect - lots of rice noodles packed separately with various beef cuts, hot broth plus sauces, and an herb pack.

Ordered takeout and was told it would take 15-20 minutes but it took around 30 minutes before it was ready. We ordered the 47. Com Ga Cha Gio - $14.95, 38. Sate peanut pho chicken -$ 14.50 and 39. Bahn Nhan - $14.95. Everything came in a healthy portion. The peanut noodles could have called for more peanut flavour. But I enjoyed it regardless. They were also really generous with the toppings. The rice rolls were very soft and the filling was a bit dry but when dipped in the provided sauce it was good. I liked that they provided fish cakes and when wrapped together was very good. The rice topped with chicken and spring roll was I believe the smallest portion of the three. The spring roll was very crispy. The chicken had a very strong lemon grass and wasn't too dry. I did enjoy most of the food and would come back to try other foods. They have a big menu so there's lots to try. Tip: call ahead to order

I was looking forward to coming here due to it being close and had many good reviews. Sadly I was disappointed and shocked with all the high reviews. We ordered the beef carpaccio, bun bo hue, bun rieu and ice coffee. Upon ordering my BBH, the lady who was taking my order was asking me how spicy I want it. I've never been asked this question in my life and so I asked her how spicy was it for her to ask me for my spice level. I told her I can eat spicy but she made it sound super spicy. Upon coming, she put down my food and told me she told the chef that he's cooking for a girl. First of all, what the hell does that mean and second of all, it was not spicy at all! The broth had no flavour and no salt... The bun rieu was also disappointing due to no flavour nor salt. The carpaccio was fine but not as good as other places. The coffee was SO sweet!! It looks not sweet due to Color but my god was it sweet, had to dilute it with tea.. Overall, very disappointed in the food and will not be b

I've been here a few times since they opened, and have been very happy with my meals. It's new and it feels very bright inside. It is a small restaurant, but they manage to fit quite a lot of seating inside. Every time I've been here, I've ordered the same thing. It's the crab meat with fish cake noodle soup. It comes with a plate of herbs and chiles. I tend to not drink a lot of the broths when I get noodle soups because I find they can be too salty, but this was definitely not the case. The broth was very flavourful, yet light. I felt like I could drink the whole bowl of soup and not feel dehydrated after. Overall, it was a satisfying bowl of noodles. I've heard they are doing take out orders and delivery now, so it is definitely on my list of places to get dinner one day.

Tasty Vietnamese spot in the block of Vietnamese spots along Victoria. There must be at least 6 Vietnamese restaurants within a block of this place. Parking is available on Victoria, as well as the side streets. This place closes early, at 1900 as of the time of writing. Be sure to plan your visit accordingly. The place is fairly new and modern. The place faces W so the interior becomes a bit of a scorcher in the evenings. Fortunately there are blinds. Pretty cool looking neon style sign on the side. Staff are friendly. Menu pricings are a wee bit expensive, at $13-15 for most dishes as of the time of writing. I was going to try the spring rolls but they were $8 for 2. Yikes. The #14 vermicelli crab meat with fish cake was quite tasty. The soup is of the clear broth type. The noodles (bun) were noticeably thinner than those of other places. Special mention for the freshness and springiness. The fish cakes and fish pieces were decent. Served with vegetables and tomatoes and green onions. There was a bit of dill in there too, but the dish could've used a bit more. The vegetable toppings were a mix of 90% chopped lettuce and 10% bean sprouts. Portion size is smaller than the competition. There is only 1 size available, which is comparable to a "regular" size at other pho places. In other words, my friends and I left somewhat hungry. Definitely worth a visit, but I do wish the portions were bigger.

I really enjoy how clean the food tasted. The service was incredible. We ordered the following: 1) tapioca dumplings - steamed in banana leaves and filled with pork and veg. Comes with a generous serving of chopped lettuce and fresh basil. The dipping sauce was delicious. This is a must try and it is a hard to find dish elsewhere. 2) steamed pork rice roll with Vietnamese ham - another generous serving of a plate of delicately assembled rice roll. This dish is not available in most Vietnamese restaurant as well. Comes with fish sauce for dipping 3) crab meat and fish cakes vermicelli in tomato broth - It was so good! Most places either makes it too spicy or too oily. Vietmama served a well balanced soup base that is both tasty and exciting but with no MSG on all their food. The thin vermicelli were perfectly cooked and I had some leftover the next day. It was still really delicious. Can't wait to return for another amazing dining experience!

Your preference will depend upon subtleties about noodle thickness and texture and broth flavors, but there is always, always a line in front of Ramen Danbo. A lot of it is probably due to hype or fame, but I have to admit that I think it does edge out the others in several ways. I think the noodles themself are more flavorful and more delicate. And I have to say the pork was extremely tender and flavorful. The egg was perfectly prepared, and the broth was perfectly seasoned to my desired spiciness level. They also do a great job searing their gyozas. Also got a piece of tempura spicy chicken - basically coated in shichimi and i think chili oil. This one was WAY too salty. They had a new yuzu drink which I also tried - too sweet, and for $5, total rip off. Considering the quality, their prices are on the high side. Its just not good enough a product, especially when there is exceptionally good ramen to be found elsewhere in Vancouver. Street meter parking if you can find it. Paid parking was not too hard to find on the Main Street but during busy dining hours it might be difficult. We got seated right away at the bar since there were no tables open and the service was quick. Traditional Japanese style ambiance and even the bathroom had rounded Japanese bowl sink. As someone who doesn't have chicken broth (paitan style) ramen, I was really looking forward to the original ramen I ordered but I was a bit disappointed in the flavor profile of the dish. The ramen had both chasu and seaweed paired with thin round noodles. The broth was creamy and had a hint of chicken flavor but even adding several rounds of their soy sauce/salt seasoning they have on the side to adjust your broth to your liking-- I found that the richness of the soup was not what I had expected from the reviews that I read prior to coming here. Overall, a bit disappointed in the flavoring of the broth but maybe we came on an off day. I would be willing to give it a shot again in the future if I had ramen cravings and given that it was very affordable ($11-15 per bowl with tip), but I would probably opt to try another place first.

Review #3 for 2026 I…read morereally wanted to like this place. I watched many videos and read reviews before coming here, but it just did not hit the spot. After a cold day of exploring Stanley Park, we felt that ramen would really hit the spot, so we went here not wanting to deal with a wait at Danbo with a hungry and tired toddler. There was NO wait when we arrived here and we were seated immediately... which for a place that was really hyped up, should had made us think twice. There was only 1 other party at the restaurant. Now, the workers were super nice and the food came out quickly and we did eat everything because we were starving. We all ordered the cha-shu tamago ramen, 2 of us got spicy and 2 of us non-spicy. It came with extra chashu and the soft boiled egg for about $20 Canadian. The bowl was a good size and there was a promo for free extra noodles while we were there. Everyone except me in our group took advantage of it because I was too full from my bowl. Now, the broth here is different from other places because it is chicken based and not pork based. Everything I had seen about this place promised the broth is every bit just as good as the pork bone broth... however, the broth we received looked flavorful, but was bland. It was completely bland. There was no richness to it, not even a hint. I don't know, coming from southern California, the flavor just was not there period. We did all eat our food because we were starving, but it for sure did not hit the spot at all. Maybe we got an off day? Otherwise our broth had literally zero flavor to it. We all wished we had tried the other ramen place instead right after trying our ramen. Would I come back? I will have to say definitely no. We do not live in Vancouver and I do not want to waste any meals on a place that did not taste good the first time we went.
