We've bought many lamps from One Stop over the years. I don't discount some of the negative one- and two-star reviews, but we've never had anything but very attentive service. They do get crowded, so we try to go during the week, when they're less so. They have access to an enormous selection, most of which they have to order. Their estimate as to when certain lamps would be in is essentially accurate--and they'll hold on to your purchases until you're ready to install, even for months. For those who complained that they don't have the best prices: they'll match internet prices, which they've done for us several times. read more

As new residents in Thousand Oaks I was excited to find a local, independent lamp store with a great selection and which does repair work too. Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience having a lamp repaired at One Stop Lighting. When I called to ask about repair options for my lamp (the base had cracked during our move) I was told that I could get an estimate when I came in to the shop. I did get an estimate when I came in. I was very transparent with the owner (the older gentleman who I assumed was the owner) telling him that this was a lamp we'd gotten on sale at Pottery Barn and I was not interested in spending a lot on the repair. When he estimated that the repair would cost between $35.00 and $40.00 I thought that sounded totally reasonable given what we'd paid for the lamp When I went to pick up my lamp today, imagine my surprise when the cost of the repair was $70.00--approximately TWICE the estimate I was quoted. Although they ultimately knocked ten dollars off the cost bringing the cost of the repair down to $60.00, I was very disappointed in the discrepancy for a few reasons: 1) no one called me to tell me that the estimate I was given was way way off before they did the repair. Everyone knows that sometimes repairs cost more than what's expected. But if your plumber, mechanic, or any other repair person I can think of ends up in a situation where an estimate is going to be doubled, you get a call asking if the cost is okay or if you want to pursue other options. That did not happen here. Now I guess you could say that I didn't explicitly ask for this and that's true. But this leads me to the second point below. 2) When I brought in my lamp, there was zero indication made that there might need to be additional repairs made. The man I spoke to seemed unequivocal in his estimate of cost and, also what would need to be done. If the personnel on the floor are not able to give a somewhat accurate assessment of the cost of a repair then I believe a service provider should be transparent about this. If I'd simply been told that I'd be given an estimate by one of the repair people in a few days, or if they'd brought out someone who does repairs to ballpark the cost of the repair either of these options would have been totally fine with me. What I don't like is having it very clearly estimated that a cost of a repair would be 35-40 dollars and to have that cost doubled. I'm sad that this was my experience at the store. I'm also frustrated because I'd come today with the intent of picking out ceiling fans for my new home's four bedrooms and a chandelier for my dining room. Tere's no way that I'd feel comfortable ordering from One Stop Lighting given how off-base the estimate was. Who knows what the actual cost of service would be for the work I need done or whether or not they'd inform me of changes in estimated costs. This doesn't seem like this is how they do business, which is a shame. If you do end up using them, make sure that you get all estimates of cost in writing and, also, require them to call you if there are unexpected costs before any work should be done either for repairs or for installations. It didn't seem like I'd need to do this from the way things were presented to me but I know now. read more

We just bought a great dining room light (I hate the word chandelier), and two bedroom lights -- which I never would have discovered without this store. It's not just that they have a great selection of stuff, it's that they really know their stuff. You might be tempted to shop online, but go here instead. The selection at this retail location is vast, which is rare these days for lighting stores. They have an eclectic array of lights, fans and fixtures ranging from high end mansion looking pieces to your basic task lighting. They also have a ton of catalogs. I first came here with my husband to browse around and an older gentlemen (I think the father of this family owned business) warmly greeted us and showed us around, highlighted a few unusual fixtures (a voice operated fan for example) and was zero-pressure as far as trying to get us to purchase something. I loved that. So when it came time for me to remodel my kitchen, I came here to purchase some LED under-cabinet lighting for my kitchen remodel. In the scheme of their clients and purchases, mine was probably small potatoes, but they still treated me with first class service. It took me maybe 4 trips to really figure out what I needed and I was impressed with the customer service each time. I forget the name of the young man who helped me most, but he was a youngish son, very personable and patient. I like that they have displays for you to really see and that they sold the LED strip lighting in feet vs. rolls. They also were extremely accommodating on returns when I accidentally bought the wrong things. They even were cool about me purchasing a couple of options and returning the one that did not work out for my set up. This is one of the rare stores that the service made me want to buy something more. I actually went home thinking, what other lighting needs do I have? I want to go back and buy it from this store because I like them so much. It feels good that a family owned business does it right and edges out the big box stores and online deals in my book. I absolutely loved the customer service. I went into the store somewhat overwhelmed with what to do concerning my lighting. (It's a new construction and I came in only 3 days before our move in!) Dan actually came over to my home at the exact appointed time and walked through, taking size, shape, and overall assessing my lighting concerns. Then he did all the homework for me, narrowing down his opinion of the best choices from their vast inventory. I wish I could have done this with all the other choices that I had to make while building this house. (Can't afford a designer!) My hanging lamp that resembles a spaceship is over 40 years old. It needed new wiring, a new socket and new switch. I called One Stop Lighting, asked if they could repair it. We took it over this morning and they said it could be ready in one hour. If I hadn't had a previous appointment we would have gone for a cup of coffee and waited. My husband went to pick it up after lunch and it was perfect. The staff was personable, courteous and knew their business. So delighted. read more

I took an antique lamp here for re-wiring at the suggestion of a designer. I had called ahead to make sure they could do the work because it's a long drive for me. Tom, who helped me, was great. I had very specific instructions on what I wanted - and not only did Tom take the time to understand the specifics of what I wanted, he executed what I requested perfectly. We got stuck in traffic on our way to this store and arrived at 5:10pm. Even though we only had 20 minutes to look at chandeliers, that's plenty of time. The doors were locked and the store was closed 20 minutes before closing which was said to be at 5:30pm posted outside of the door. We were very displeased and frustrated with this as we were looking forward to see what the store had to offer. Make sure you get there before they close... Very good quality merchandise. The problem there is so much product ALL over the store. Very little space to walk around. Very crowded!!! Was purchasing a floor lamp which I liked and as I went to the register to pay, my elbow barely touched a lamp and the lampshade broke. Instead of putting the rest of the lamp in the clearance department.....they charged me $150.00 for the broken lamp shade. I left without the floor lamp I initially went in for and came home with a $150.00 charge on my credit card. After finding two that were the perfect size, we realized they were the wrong color. I was referred to this store by a long-time Thousand Oaks resident who was sorry he did after I told him my experience here. The staff was very helpful and I ordered 2 vanity lights, one in chrome and one in oil-rubbed bronze, but otherwise identical lighting fixtures. When I went to pick them up, they told me the box for one looked damaged so they opened it and checked it and then put it in a different box. This was a lie. I learned the truth after I got home and opened the box. What they did was pull the floor model off the wall, stick it a random box, still with dust on it, a dead bug in it and two out of three of the bulbs were blackened. I told the owner, Frank, about it over the phone. They told me the truth when I got back to the store and the owner didn't even apologize. It turns out, the black one I wanted was on back-order for 2 months, so they took it upon themselves to try to fool me into thinking I was getting a new one. They should have been honest with me up front. This was so shady and they weren't even sorry. I like to support locally owned businesses but I'll go to Lamps Plus or Amazon next time. read more

I purchased a Zephyr (mfgd by Modern Forms) wet-rated fan from One Stop Lighting. I told the sales person that the fan was for installation under an open pergola in the back yard, and showed him photos. The fan failed 2 months later, after our first rain. One Stop Lighting knew exactly why it failed, and provided a replacement remote control receiver housed at the top of the fan. Little did I know that the top of the fan is open and that the remote control receiver housed there isn't sealed against weather. When I complained, the store suggested that I reinstall the fan with an outdoor ceiling fan electrical box which provides a weatherproof seal for the electrical - the store had not advised this when I purchased the fan and later said that the electrician should have known to do that. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Bronze-Weatherproof-Ceiling-Fan-and-Luminaire-Box-PRCF57550BZ/312841880. This Zephyr fan should not be wet rated without instruction to install with that weatherproof box. One Stop Lighting should not have sold it for that use. Hands down the best lighting shop in Ventura County! Customer service is top notch. In particular, Dan was beyond helpful. Upon moving in, we needed every light fixture in the house replaced. Not only did he come out to the house to get a better feel for what we were looking for, we spent many hours looking through books trying to find "the piece". He was so patient and knowledgeable. I would describe something I liked in very non-designer verbage and he would run to the books and pull out exactly what I was describing. When we were considering a large item, with a big price tag, he was encouraging, but not in the least bit pushy. And, he was spot on, once the light went up, it made the room, if not the house. Lastly, one of our ceiling fans we purchased was not working properly. Without any questions, after it was checked and adjusted by the recommended electrician who installed it, it was replaced, no questions asked. A floor lamp needed repair. I could have actually done the repair myself, but I couldn't remove one of the parts, so I had to resort to a repair shop. It cost $25 for the repair, which probably took 10 minutes. It was worth it since I couldn't do it, but that tells you how easy it was - just a replacement of the part that holds the bulb with the switch. They did it quickly and we picked it up on our way back from doing errands. The posts that mentioned how crowded the place was weren't kidding. It is tiny and packed and I was nervous about moving about. read more

Very disappointed with this business. Bought two outside lights and was told they'd arrive in a week. A week went by and no word so called and they could not find the order (we paid in full ahead of delivery). They finally found it and said it would be another week. No apologies but did get plenty of attitude from their end. I suspect they never placed the order. Another week went by and no word again. Called and was told the lamps were on a truck due for arrival in 3 or so days. Three days went by and no word. Called again and was told the lights would arrive by Wednesday (we called on a Saturday) and they would deliver to our home. Wednesday came and no word, no delivery. Called and was told the lights were there and we could pick up but we explained we could not get there until Saturday since we work until 5pm when they close. Finally picked up the lights on Saturday, over 3 weeks since the initial order. Will never buy from them again. Terrible customer service! read more

Called back one full week later and was told that they had been waiting for a part and it would be ready in a day or two and they would call me. No call. Called back...now two full weeks after dropping off the lamp and left a message requesting a call for the status of my repair. No call. Called back again in the afternoon and was told that they were waiting for a part and it would be ready soon. Seriously? Drove down to One Stop Lighting to pick up my lamp so I could take it to a business that provides customer service. Here's what I got from the owner of One Stop..."sorry we couldn't fix your lamp." As soon as Wendy started helping me with an exterior fixture which I originally found online, I was comfortable with her product knowledge and courtesy answering all my detailed questions. When my husband went into the store to place the order, he too was impressed with her answers to his engineer-type questions about the illumination. Not only do all 10 fixtures, large and small, look great especially when lit at night, but they came right on time and securely packaged. When our electrician started installing them, I had a question and though Wendy was off that day, the gentleman (Tom?) who answered the phone, did the necessary checking and immediately returned my call. My husband and I went looking for pendant lamps. I have shopped and bought here in the past, so I was aware of how crowded and crammed all the lights are in the store. That didn't bother me so much as the way the salespeople treated us. Both my husband and I were shocked at how both salespeople in the store bombarded us with endless comments concerning color, style and sizes that we weren't even interested in. We were barely able to think about what we might like, let alone get a word in edgewise in response to their constant chatter. Both salespeople talked, non-stop and even disagreed with our choices once we were able to squeeze an opinion of our own in. They were more than rude. It was one of the worst shopping experiences we've had in quite a long while. These people were like (pardon the stereo typical reference) used car salesmen just desperate to sell anything to whoever walked in the door. We finally agreed with them that apparently we didn't know what we wanted so we should come back when we had a better idea. Never gonna happen. We both ran out of that place as fast as we could. I was very disappointed as I have bought there previously and was never treated anything like this. Maybe new management? I'm not sure, but this is definitely not the way to treat customers. read more

In my view, this place has a limited selection of products on display. Instead, they veer you toward their many catalogs for the product you are looking for and tell you they can order it for you. I have found that it can take a long time for the product to arrive for pick up at the store. Basically, you can do the same thing on line. In my opinion, their prices are not competitive and that they charge more than the same product on line. To add insult to injury, I have found that I can get the same product on line faster than it arrives at their store. In addition, in my opinion their service and demeanor are poor and downright rude at times. The lights I ordered took twice as long as they had promised for arrival at the store. When I told them that my electric contractor was at the house based on their promise, they were rude and dismissive. Another time, they called me and told me that the fan that I had ordered had arrived. I had my contractor pick it up only to find that the blades were missing when he got to my house. Again, instead of being apologetic or taking steps to correct their mistake (e.g., deliver the blades to my house where my contractor was waiting), they were dismissive and rude. They made it sound that I ordered just the fan motor without the blades! In my opinion, their demeanor changes after they make the sale and charge your credit card. I will not be shopping there again. read more
