Very odd staff--the woman taking my food order was highly rude b/c I didn't know right away what I wanted to order and I thought she was going to throw a glass of water I asked for at me! When I asked to speak to the manager, he gave me some meek excuse that it was a "two-way street" which was odd since I didn't see myself as acting rude to her, I just took a couple minutes and asked what the special was. I am also from NYC and have gone to tons of restaurants and usually never have a problem with the dozens possibly hundreds of restaurants and cafes I frequent. I am actually wondering if they are acting on some type of racial/sexual minority/gender minority bias, which they should check, big time. In addition, the couch in the front of their restaurant literally smells like vomit and when I went to sit on it, it was wet--gross. Won't be coming back here again! read more

I like it but don't love it for some reason. Food is good and lots of choices. You get a lot of food too but it's just not scrumptious in flavor for some reason. It's like it needs one more something. The veggie jambalaya was good with fake sausage and carrots corn and celery but again it didn't knock me out. It was covered in steamed kale...yum but lacked the spice or seasoning. I love the Huckles local hot sauce on the table. Good yes and a wide menu but just needs...something more. I was in Baltimore for the weekend recently and was staying at a friend's place that's a hop, skip + a jump from One World Cafe. I ate here three times in one weekend. If I lived as close as she does, I'd eat here about 5X or more per week (actually, I think she might be doing that). I've been for breakfast, lunch & dinner (not all on the same day. I do appreciate variety). The first evening, I was feeling in need of serious nourishment after traveling for a good number of hours and subsisting on airport snacks and coffee, so I ordered big and I ordered healthy. A cup of vegan French onion (excellent) and one of their healthy plates full of steamed veggies, tofu and rice. I mean, really, you can't go wrong with this if you're yearning for hearty + healthy. The next day, I had the tofu club sandwich, which comes on really tasty/nutty whole grain. It's good, not the best I've ever had, but it filled me up for 10 hours somehow. Bizarre, right? And then, I had weekend brunch on Sunday. That tofu scramble is excellent, especially if you're a nutritional yeast-lover (I refuse to call it nooch, as seems the norm these days). One World calls it "magic dust" which I think is spot-on, as it enhances umami, and on tofu, that's seriously business since it's so bland and you depend on influence from flavoring. I also ordered a side of tempeh bacon because their sausage patties aren't vegan. In relation to this, my only slight complaint: for a place that has so many vegan options, there are a number of things that are perplexingly non vegan that could easily be made vegan. For example, mashed potatoes. Why wouldn't they just make them vegan with unsweetened nut milk and one of the many amazing non dairy butters that are pretty common these days? And if you're offering meatless sausage, why not get the vegan kind? There are so many of them. I get why they have real cheese as an option, as well as eggs, since it's not a straight-up vegan resto, but some options seem like no brainers to me. That said, I just love One World. Their coffee drinks are phenomenal, too (and if you're looking for a coffeehouse scene, order and sit up front). There's a full bar. Their vegan coconut cake is simply to die for and the staff is all super nice. I'm already planning a return visit to One World Cafe. I've been here three times, once for take out on a weekend afternoon and twice for dine in after 7pm. The food is cool but I don't feel that you get the best value for the money you pay. The amount they charge for vegan cheese is unheard of. One would think a veg friendly place's vegan cheese upcharge rate would be the same ratio as a carnivorous eater (roughly about 50 cents) but it's about a dollar more! Might I also recommend calling in your order ahead if you're doing pick-up. I sat for 25 minutes just waiting on a vegan cheesesteak that should have only take under ten minutes to prepare especially considering the people that were dining in had all been served (I had time enough to look around and observe each and every person there while I was waiting all that time). read more

What a great place. Went here on our arrival in Baltimore. This was one of the few veg./vegan places in the area and it was certainly worth the trip. The front end is an order-at-the-counter cafe and the restaurant with full service is in the back. We were promptly seated at a large, round booth that was reasonably private. It had been 1 1/2 years since my last visit to the area and this afforded us an opportunity to catch up. I had the jambalaya and the fare ranged from "crab" cakes to lasagna, to an array of great dishes. the only glitch was when my iced tea glass was refilled with water. Other than that, awesome. Cute location, extensive menu and helpful staff grace this corner cafe with its small offerings of grocery items. When you walk in, the coffee bar is straight ahead, along with the beautiful display of desserts and baked goods as you order a coffee drink, tea or snag a cantaloupe or apple. The seating is available for the coffee shop area or the dining area, and it is split pretty clearly. If you desire to sit down, keep going further back. They'll bring you a menu, greet you and kindly take your order. The menu has many choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner, so it's easy to want to come back here after one meal. The vegan choices are clearly marked, which is always helpful. For breakfast, it seems to be popular to order tofu or fake meat if you're eschewing meat and meat products. It would be nice to have some more vegetables and less processed protein sources, but they still have quite a nice selection for brunch with the tofu scrambler, corn cakes, pancakes and granola. They use a lot of nutritional yeast atop the scrambler, so if you're not the biggest fan - ask to have a little less or on the side. My favorite part of this cafe is the espresso drinks with the hemp, almond or soy milk nondairy option! So awesome. I like the sit-down ceramic mugs they use for service. I also ordered a side of fruit, but it was not fresh. My friend's waffle with fresh fruit, on the other hand, looked great. They removed the fruit charge from our bill because I wouldn't eat it because it was so unfresh. You can order gluten-free items special-order, but it would be nice if they had them just already available. The desserts are vegan though! One World Cafe was a staple when I was in college and even now, when I'm back in Baltimore, I try and stop by. It's a cozy place with a coffee shop vibe up front, bar in the middle, and restaurant in the back. Vegetarian so be prepared for that but, even though I'm a full blown carnivore, I enjoy eating here. The sautéed veggies in tahini sauce is a favorite, as is the jambalaya and the mac and cheese. On my most recent visit, though, I branched out and tried the tempeh Reuben and it might be my new favorite! Nutty tempeh, sauerkraut, cheese, sprouts and a homemade Russian dressing on delicious toasted sourdough bread. Can't wait til my next trip back to Baltimore! read more

There are only a few dishes I tried at One World Cafe. Its O.W.C wrap is simple and clean. The wrap has a multitude of fresh vegetables and its guacamole adds flavor, really making the dish. Also, the grilled tuna steak sandwich never disappoints. I usually come here to study and sit by the "cafe" area before it hits the "dining" area. I always order the bottomless coffee mug and a slice of cake! I recommend the vegan chocolate cake and the black & white cake! There has only been one incident where I was not impressed with the desserts as the slice of cake was extremely dry. It's one of my favorite places near campus to get work done! read more

Great creative vegetarian and vegan menu with a few fish choices. The cheddar cheese soup was flavorful and rich . The seitan based Reuben was the best my corned beef craving soul has encountered. Wasn't crazy about the vegan meatloaf which was mealy and sweet but came with terrific mashed potatoes and veggies. On the alcohol side they make a great martini. Very casual, prompt friendly service. The dessert are good, the dulce de Lethe cake was to die for, rich European style cake with real buttercream. This little gem of a veggie/vegan/bar/restaurant is tucked into a mostly residential neighbourhood. It's got a fairly simple menu, some inexpensive daily specials, but most importantly a great staff. Our waitress (oops, should I call her a 'server'?) was Ally and she had the quintessential Baltimore "hon" attitude. Ally really made our visit great, she had good recommendations and was right there when we needed her. Now she might not have known the difference between brown (no such thing) and gold tequila, but she does now. The food was delicious and very reasonable, especially for a vegan spot, sometimes those places think a little too highly of their fare. The physical plant is kind of three spots in one, the front, where the nose of the flat iron style building it's in comes to a point, is a loungey, sofa type hang out spot. Next comes the straight little bar leading back to the main dining room that opens up and down to a wider area with lots of two and four tops for the diners. This night was a totally pleasurable experience which started off with Ally's good humour, One Word's great food and a very inviting space. I will definitely be back to this 'world.' read more

As an ex vegeterian i was skeptical of any place that goes as vegeterian fare, but this place exceeded expectations. One reason this may be is because the cholestorol points you're saving by not eating meat you're gaining with the amount of cheese they put on their food. The nachos were bomb, pretty much no way to mess this up. I ate the portobella wrap which was also tasty. Definitely not as filling as my friends philly cheese steak and Metaball sub, but that's because mine was wads of spinach where theirs had wads of cheese. Neither of my friends (male & female) could finish those two entrees with our nachos, they said it was cheese overload- but the food was tasty. price was pretty good, $13 and you get a big entree with chips or salad. The waiter helped out my friend by charging her phone for her. A nice small gesture. 2. I had some guacamole and chips as a starter. This was soo fresh. 3. My meal was vegan md crab cakes with corn salsa and garlic mashed potatoes. I was very impressed. Also a yummy sauce for my krabby patties. Tell me your secret recipe or else, Mr. Krabs! 4. Another Baltimore staple I miss after moving. I lived the food here, and the coffee and desserts were great too. Always a fun place to hang out at or have coffee meetings. Its one of those places that I'm always scared will be closed before I can get back to town to visit. Cake and margaritas: This review is solely about the cakes and the Tuesday $3.50 margarita deal, because both are worth raving about! Took a chance (after a review from a friend) on getting my birthday cake from one world, as I was looking for a vegan carrot cake. I ended up calling on a Thursday to get a cake for Saturday, and their amazing baker was able to do it!! PSA: normally they'll need more than 2 days of advanced notice to get a full vegan cake. This cake was a-ma-zing! Far beyond expectations. I still sort of dream of it.. The frosting isn't cream cheese-esque, but it is amazing. The whole thing is also covered in toasted coconut, which provides awesome texture and taste. Totally exceeded expectations and I want to try every one of their cakes now (you can get slices from whichever cakes they have on hand). As for the margaritas: they're good. And pretty strong. And $3.50 each on Tuesdays! Can't beat it. Maybe some cake and margaritas one night? As for food: I haven't been that impressed in the past, but I haven't gotten much. Super yummy!! Stopped in for lunch while at Johns Hopkins, parking was tricky we had to circle the block several times but once we got in there plenty of room to sit. I got the vegan BLT, my mom got the quesadilla and fries - both were really good - way more food than we could eat - ended up getting go boxes. The coffee was good! The staff seemed a little pressed for time and a little stressed out about it, they really didn't seem that busy but we're generally friendly. I have gone a handful of times, and though enjoyable, I always go expecting more and leave with a satisfactory experience. The place is poorly lit yet not in a romantic or intimate setting - either too bright or too dark. The food is as I said satisfactory. The menu descriptions can be delightful. In my personal taste the food could use more flavor, and they could be more creative with how they prepare their tofu. The hot chocolate was warm, yet simply tasted of chocolate syrup... My classmate and I work close by to One World Cafe and we needed a nice, stable place to eat and study. Starbucks down the road had shifty parking and closed fairly early. One World Cafe provided us with great service and is open later than all the other spots. My classmate is a vegetarian and I am not but we both found dishes that we loved here. For the duration of our group project, we would post up on one of their tables and grab snacks and tea pots of chai to get us going. The first time we went here, the service was pretty rocky. Nobody greeted us at the host stand, we waited for 7 or 8 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and take us to a table, and service was slow over all. Since then, I've been back many, many times, (sitting in and service has always been pretty fast and with a smile (the counter staff, servers, and bartenders are just super nice people). I wonder if the reviews people have left about service were just off days? (Doesn't invalidate that people had a less than optimal experience, but I'm not sure it is the norm at One World Cafe.) The cakes are amazing (my particular favorite is the Lemon Mousse), the soups of the day are consistently excellent, and their crispy tofu curry is good. My only quibble is that the Baked Chickenless Parmesan is really, really, really damn good when it's good, but it's not always good. The chickenless part sometimes has a layer or two that are tough to the point of inedibility, although the side of linguini with marinara sauce and the garlic bread are always good! Their breakfast items are good too, especially the pancakes and the hash browns (which are more like roast potatoes than traditional hash browns, but are utterly delicious). read more

I've been here a few times now and I've yet to be disappointed. Today I tried their Philly Cheese "Steak Less" with vegan cheese in place of regular cheese. It was AMAZING! I haven't had a Philly cheese steak in YEARS and it was heaven. I also like how the serve their sandwiches with chips and salsa instead of fries. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy fries, but with the sub roll and the amount of food piled high in the sandwich, I would have ended up not even touching my fries and throwing them away. They offer french fries as a side/app for those who like fries with their sandwiches and i'm sure you could ask to sub them. The only negative thing I have to say was their cake was awful! I ordered a piece of their vegan chocolate chip cake with chocolate frosting and it tasted like it was sitting in the display case for days! It was so, so dry that I ended up throwing it away after 1 bite :( I was looking forward to trying their baked goods and I'm unsure if i'd try them again, at least the cakes. They do offer brownies, cookies, muffins, etc. that I'm sure I would try. Overall, I like One World Cafe and will most definitely be returning. Next time, maybe i'll skip on the cake. read more

The service....holy mother of god...the service. This place gives vegetarian restaurants a bad name. Our waitress was either seriously stoned or just the stupidest fucking person I've ever met in my life. We tried to order the nachos with chili and asked for the chili on the side. After a 3 minute conversation with her, showing her where it was on the menu and explaining it to her, she still brought us an order of nachos and then a bowl of chili, not the chili on the side that comes with the nachos. A small price difference and really not a big deal but just how is anyone that dumb? Come on. She was literally in a haze of stupid or smoke. Maybe both. When she brought the meals she couldn't remember who ordered what so she just stood there looking stupid and/or stoned until the person who ordered what she had reached their hand out and took the plate from her. Another person at our table ordered a smoothie and it came halfway through his meal. Every time I go to One World I swear I will never be back. This time I mean it. I'll trek up to Clarksville to go to Great Sage or I will make a damn veggie burger and stay home. I can't take the stupid. read more
