I've had my Unity Visa card for less than one month, yes one month and cannot get anyone on the phone to help with the online account access. I was referred to use them as a way to support. Went completely through the registration process, was allowed access then kicked out to and I tried to re login and the account was then locked. Called website support and am still on hold 1.5 hours later just try to have the account password reset. I called customer service for help from work, to no avail. I was told to called same number I am still on hold with. This is unacceptable customer service for them wanting to "help" the community. You all have been around too long at this point for these things still to be taking place. After a few separate phone calls to customer service (each person I spoke with was professional and polite and followed their company policy) with an issue I had with a mobile deposit I received a call directly from OU later the same day. After hearing my concern the OU representative promptly and graciously resolved my issue. She will never know how that act immediately put me back on the right track. I make deposits into this account for my clients and overall the Tellers are very kind, courteous and knowledgeable for my monthly transactions. I do not use online services but I would like to see an upgrade where they can collaborate with another bank so I could make deposits and not travel so far to their brick & mortar to do banking. I still have the faith in this bank as it is in the community and it has a youth banking campaign going on. -I haven't used their APP or online banking or deposited any checks so when I do I will revist my ratings. read more

One United bank is the worst bank that I have ever dealt with before in my life! I had a card stolen. Called in to get a replacement, got a second dairy answering service that took my call. I proceeded to order a new card and put a stop on the stolen card on October 2nd.....October 19, I still have no card. Called in to customer service to inquire why I had no card, was told by the representative that no 1 ever talk to me. They had no record of my call. So my card was just floating around out there for anyone to use, on top of that got no apology for the inconveniences that I was going through.  All could have been avoided if there was a feature to do this directly from the app!!! I have banked black for two years with this bank and I am happy. One down side has nothing to do with the excellent staff, atm could be updated to accept cash or checks without the envelope. I feel robbed and penalized for opening an account, supporting black banking, planning for and being prepared for urgent situations. I had consistent direct deposits via payroll, was never made aware nor was it written that I would be charged a fee for saving and not making 10 transactions per month. This account was not EVER meant to be my primary account, but, one I had as a safety net with monies available for emergencies. Month after month I found myself in a panic trying to recall the number of times I used the damn card only to be constantly charged $10.00 when I fell short. My plan for a safety net was never able to be met as the institution continued to rob me with no remorse forgiveness or other account types to choose from. Long story short it became best to take my hard earned money elsewhere and sever my relationship with OneUnited Bank. I won't get into the account the process of closing an account. please do not bank here! this is the absolute worst bank! i tried to support black owned banks but this is the worst bank. they do horrible business and they are not serving our black community with the poor service that they provide. i went online to pay my credit card balance down to zero so that i can have less debt reporting on my credit. the system wouldnt allow me to make a payment because i've made a payment online 10 days ago. i called to get the reporting date for my credit card. i wanted to see if i could mail in a payment before the reporting date. i was told that i had to get the reporting date information from the credit department that doesn't have a direct number for me to call. they had to submit a request for them to call or email me back which can take 24 - 48 business hours. this is absolutely unacceptable!!! i get better customer service and support with prepaid cards than i do at one united! this poor servicing of my credit card account can have a negative impact on my credit score. the information that i need in order to take the proper actions to protect my credit score is being delayed and is unavailable to me at the time when i need it. once i pay the balance down to zero i will be closing this account and filing a bbb complaint. read more

I am just opening an account today. I realize with any company there are always those that are dissatisfied... it seems there is an equal mix here if those who are satisfied and those who are not. I have had another ONLINE BANKING account for a little over a year now and have very few complaints other than the amount of time it takes them to resolve an issue and that everything needs to be done via messaging and not personally via phone. It seems this bank has those same issues. My only concern initially is that I live in the East coast and while there is a branch in Miami, it seems HQ is in the West coast. I've had a terrible experience with your bank. My fiancé and I tried to open a joint checking account online, but the application timed out as we were trying to confirm his identity. A warning that there's a time limit would have been helpful. At this point, while the account was declined, $500 of my money was still placed on hold. Your website said no money would be removed. Your website should clarify that the money would be inaccessible. Saturday, January 27th we went to a branch. We drove from Pasadena to LA only to wait for 30 minutes before being seen by a banker. Although no one else was actually visibly meeting with a banker, we hung in there. We are seen by Nannette, who is apparently the gatekeeper for any major transactions. We were interrupted by other employees no less than 5 times which of course delayed our ability to open an account. When I asked if there would be any interaction between my current savings account and pending joint checking, I was told no. She also said the department that handles pending transactions was closed on the weekend, so I should call back on Monday to inquire about the funds. We decided to wait to open the joint checking account since there was $500 just floating around. We were told they wouldn't proceed until they heard from us. When I called to inquire about the return of funds, I was told there would be a 3-5 day waiting period. However, the time frame could be shortened if I took a letter from their bank into my other banking institution wiht the transaction details. That, in fact, was not true. When I called the other institution, they said that isn't standard banking practice and it wouldn't expedite the return. As I waited, you can imagine my surprise when I received two letters from your institution a week later. One letter notified me that I'd changed my email address and the other was a debit card. Hmmmm. When I called your contact number, I was told that the accounts weren't connected, but I could only have one email address. So, the accounts are connected, unlike what I'd been told. When I asked if the debit card was attached to my joint account, I was told yes. When I asked if it was only attached there, the answer, again was yes. When I asked if activating the card and making a deposit would open the account the answer was again yes. As I stood at the ATM attempting to make a deposit, I received an error message basically saying the transaction couldn't be completed. Of course, this location is one where I must pay to park and the meter is running out. I called back and said I'd already spoken to one person, but I still couldn't make a deposit to the new account. The representative said I'll take care of it. She said she'd correct the matter and would open my account and I was free to make the deposit. I tried several more times a few minutes later and receive the same error message. When I called again, I began by telling the rep that I was frustrated by how many times I've called but still can't make a deposit. Crickets. She then told me the debit card was attached only to my savings account and the checking account hadn't been opened. At that point, I said again how frustrated I was at not being able to make a simple transaction. She felt it was appropriate to tell me not to be rude and that she was only trying to help. I was floored. At this point, I chose not to disrespect her. Here is where you lost my accounts. I'm sure this isn't how you trained your employees. I read the review before opening account and thought I would try anyway to make the extra effort to support a black business. Should have trusted the reviews. I understand that they got bum rushed with a lot of new accounts, then what are they out here still trying to get more customer and cannot handle the customer load the now have. I open account back in March 2020 and have never been able to talk to a customer service. There is no way to cancel your account from what I can see so you have to spend all your funds up a point and then let the service charge eat away at your balance. So sad, so sad read more

I got caught up in Pro-Black Hype. There are companies that take advantage of people who are not careful. ONE UNITED BANK is that type of company. I am very disappointed with the way my account was handled. 1st. I deposited the requested $1,000.00 to open a higher interest paying account, supposed to be better than BOA. 2nd. I did not check on this account. When I received the debit card I put it in a drawer. I did need the money to pay bills so I just let it sit. 3rd. I did not look for reviews on this bank to see how their reputation is with the people. I did not get any communication from this bank once they got the money. No email, No calls but I got one letter saying the account was closed 10/14/2020. Today I was able to get a young lady on the phone. She told me the $700.00 was sent to my state. I deposited $1,000.00, then she said they took out maintenance fees. $5.00 monthly because the account was under $2,500.00. She said I should have read the fine print. She said you know we don't like to read. So, they encourage Black people to deposit $1,000.00 because 'this is a Black Owned Bank'. Then they hit the account for $5 every month as long as they can until they have to turn the money over to the state. How many $5 did they get. People like me trusted you with $1,000.00, NO QUESTIONS ASKED BECAUSE YOU ARE A BLACK OWNED BANK. If you charged a maintenance fee because the account was under funded why wouldn't you send notification. I have been affiliated with One United Bank since it was named Founders. I have witnessed the transitioning of the organizations operations and management, in terms of how they service their customers and what they offer. I am pleased to say that I am overall satisfied with the customer service. I do believe that they could be a bit more unselfish when it comes to their interest accrual rates. Additionally their service fees on accounts under a certain dollar amount should be eliminated. People with low balances should not be penalized for it. in closing, I bank at the Compton Branch of OneUnited and I would say their best asset would be their bedside customer service. This bank is a total scam run by frauds. I opened a Unity Visa secured credit card with a $500 security deposit and credit limit in Feb. 2014. I was a loyal customer for over 4 years and never once had a late payment until Feb. 2018, when my account was immediately closed and my online portal access revoked because of a single returned automatic payment of $7. I received no notice whatsoever that my payment had even been returned and the only reason it was returned was because my bank routing number had changed on my linked checking account. After I never saw my $7 payment withdrawn from my checking account, I tried to login to their portal to check my account status and see if it was still pending, only to find that I was totally locked out. I called customer service and after several unsuccessful attempts to reach a person, I was finally told that in order to restore my account and portal access I would have to remake the $7 minimum payments, the one returned for Feb 2018 in addition to another for March 2018. I immediately made both payments (both were reported to the credit bureaus as paid on time), but they lied and they never restored my online access or reopened my account. Instead, they closed my account with a $0 balance and kept my $500 security deposit. I made multiple attempts to contact them via phone and left messages, but could never get someone on the phone and nobody ever contacted me back. I never received any further correspondence from them by mail or email regarding my account balance and I reluctantly considered the matter closed and accepted the fact that I was not going to get my card restored. Several months later, I pulled my 3 credit reports to find that they reported my account as closed and charged off with a $75 balance (consisting of nonsense fees that they assessed AFTER closing my account and keeping my deposit and without my knowledge), and despite the fact that they officially closed my account and revoked my access on Feb. 7 2018, they reported my account as past due from April 2018-July 2019 with an unpaid balance of $75. That's 19 months of derogatory payment history on an account that had been closed for 2 months with a $0 balance. Not once did I receive any statement, collections notice or email correspondence from them. I have since disputed this derogatory payment history and $75 balance with the credit bureaus multiple times, but was only able to get it removed from 1 of 3. It still remains as the only negative account on my Transunion and Experian reports and is bringing my FICO score down over 40 points. read more

I am having a terrible experience with One United Bank. Fees are high and deposits are longer than with other banks. My most recent issue is that I cannot deposit a check that was issued to me from a large company that banks with Bank of America. In order to deposit checks via mobile, OneUnited Bank requires that you endorse the check and state that it's for mobile deposit with them only and list your account number. Fine. Then starts the problems, first, there is a $1,500 check deposit limit. My check is more than $1,500. I called to get the limit increased, deposited the check via mobile, and received a message that the check was being reviewed. Later that day I received an email that my check was 'ineligible' and had been deleted. When I attempted to upload the check again via mobile, there was a message on my account stating that deposits are denied. No one at One United Bank knows why my check was marked ineligible, deleted, and deposits blocked. I was then told by their staff to use an ATM. I used their ATM locator and identified 6 ATMs near me. I went to all 6! Four of the locations didn't have an ATM at all!!! One location had an ATM but did not accept deposits. The other location had no physical ATM but offered check-cashing services. I could have paid a fee to cash my check with them, but that wasn't an option since One United Bank had me endorse the check stating that it would be deposited through them via mobile only. I reported the latest issue to One United Bank and was told there is a bank one mile from my location. We looked up the address which is 23 minutes away. At this point, it's been a couple of days and my check still hasn't been deposited. Again, this is a check from a large company with an account through Bank of America. No one from One United Bank has reached out to me. I've called them several times, but no one has answers and the issue hasn't been resolved. I keep being told to wait 24 hours for them to lift the $1,500 limit, but they already did that before I deposited the check, to begin with... UPDATE: After several days, a customer service agent Deneisha took accountability to ensure I was able to deposit my check. However, I've since been told that my deposit funds won't be available to me until September 10, 2021. Keep in mind several days were lost in the deposit process due to errors within OneUnited Bank. THEY DON'T CARE. They act as if their hands are tied and there is nothing they can do. In the meantime, they continue to profit from charging NSF fees to my account while holding my deposits so they can profit from interest. Again, we aren't talking about a personal check here. OneUnited Bank treats their customers like idiots and assumes that we've never banked elsewhere. I've been banking online since 1999. I've made many mobile deposits and I've never experienced these types of long processing times for credits/deposits. I have filed a complaint with the FDIC. Something needs to be done about this "bank". UPDATE #2: When I logged into my OneUnited Bank checking account last night and this morning there was a 4-day hold on my check. After calling OneUnited Bank this morning and reminding the customer support agent, Liz (whose service was poor), that the delays with depositing my check are on their end and that I should not have to wait 4 additional business days to receive my funds and that I have filed a complaint with the FDIC they changed the 4-day hold to a 5-day hold (I have screenshots). I am filing a separate complaint with the FDIC for OneUnited Bank's retaliatory behavior. read more

I have been locked out of my account for 2 months now. I have called every week to try to get ahold of someone and they either transfer me to someone else or never answer. I just need to reset my password and update my contact info. Not sure why this is so hard to do so and it has become frustrating. Not worth the headache!!! Besides only having one location you have to wait 15 days for a debit card. No they do not provide a temp card. If you deposit a payroll check they place a 9 day hold on it!!! I get paid every 1 weeks! When you call you will speak with Queenie but all she can do is email and give you half ass answers. Don't try to transfer money that takes 5 days as well. What's the point if I can't access my money receive technical support or get a debit card. Btw the teller messed up the address I called several times and after 14 days I now have to wait another 5-7 for got my 1st debit card. I received a call from Dannie who was very pleasant and addressed my issues with a sincere apology and went out of her way to rectify the situation. Let me say as a black, I was suspicious. But I had to get the Harriet Tubman debit card. Trying to modernize her wasn't necessary but okay. I've been a customer at Chase, Wells Fargo, and Citibank. One United is the first bank to offer EVERYTHING I want and need on one App! I transferred all of my accounts here. Immediate transfers, direct deposit, cool black history cards, bill pay, an app, account information, free ATMs, locations in the community, loans, credit cards, and the list goes on. I went inside the bank, the teller was polite and professional--I knew her from somewhere else. I took pictures of black leaders on the walls. My monthly fee, which can be free with certain plans, is cheaper than any of the other banks I've been with. And lastly, I'm trying to sign up other people so I can get that $50 award! Working with this bank has caused me financial hardship with late payments to top it off. It limited access to my own money and left me stranded without transportation. It has no weekend support whatsoever so you are just screwed and cut off from your money if an emergency happens and have to wait for over an hour when they open on monday and still not be able to have access to your own money. I open the Bank Black checking account, pay the $50, I was approved however once I created my account logon I noticed my funds were not in my account. Sooo... I call the customer service number waited on hold for 30 mins, then was hung up on!! So I called again and waited another 30 minutes, spoke with Ciara?Sierra?? anyways she was decent, answered my questions vaguely and right as I am speaking to her, I realize that their are just wayy too many red flags for this company ALREADY. She told me it would take up to 3 days for my lil ole $50 to show in my account ( You mean to tell me the largest Black Owned Bank in America can't front their customers $50.00 until funds are verified as a show of good faith?). So I was kind of thrown off by that THEN the whole gotta wait at least an hour just to speak with someone ordeal turned me off?!! Nahh I am good. I love Black Businesses and support everyday if I have a chance, but we gotta be competitive out here my people. I was planning on moving ALL my funds to this bank from all 3 of my other banking institutions in full knowledge that there is no actual branch in my area ( That's a LOT of trust)!! It really pains me to give my review. For those looking to support this bank please beware! If I could give them negative 5 stars I would. I received a letter telling me my account was closed due to inactivity. When I called to discuss the situation I was told the checking account was closed but my savings account was open. I explained to the lady that I told tried several times to log into the mobile app and each time it didn't work. Each time I would select forgot password and it would say a reset was sent to my gmail. That never happened so I didn't worry about it. Then I asked if my debit card was still active and was told no, but I could be sent a new card for my savings account. I agreed and was transferred so my password could be reset. While on the phone the lady tried 2 times to call and it never went through. But I kept getting gmail messages about my password reset. She said that is to be used after I received the call. Then she said hang up and I will call you, that never happened. I called back and spoke with a man went through everything and he wasn't helpful. I let him know that their customer service was terrible and trying to support black businesses more than likely disappoints. He still didn't offer any assistance so I told him to close my savings. I have NEVER in my life been so frustrated with a bank. I have been trying to get a clear answer on why my account was closed. Sent me an email that didn't explain anything and customer service couldn't answer my questions. I couldn't talk to anyone else from the largest black-owned bank in America about my account, which makes not one ounce of sense. Do not bank here. This is a total Rip-off. I was trying to support black business and opened an account last year with $50. I thought at the very lease I have $50 whenever I needed it. WRONG!!! According to the customer service person I finally reached after a hangup when asking for my full SSN and transfers, I was told they charged me $10/month and closed the account! I had the most horrible experience with a supervisor from One United in regards to a maintenance fee I've never received before since I opened the account. I been a supporter of the bank black concept since 2017 but I guess that dont mean Jack. I was told straight up "No. We don't waive maintenance fees". The supervisor wouldn't even speak with me directly, she passed that through the CSR. The CSR tried to get me to any supervisor and there was no one she can get me to speak with and the only option given to me was to leave a message on a voicemail...WOW!. ATM deposits held for 5-7 days, only allow 500.00 deposits via green dot every 24 hours, and if a etf posts in the morning and you deposit funds or receive a direct deposit the same day before the end of business, they'll charge a 37.00 NSF. You all should be ashamed! They don't offer loans so there is virtually no benefit of having accounts with them other than a card with a black image. read more

I decided I'd join the movement and BankBlack. Completed an application on July 7th, did not receive any information regarding account until August 14th; between that time, I called several times and was on hold for over an hour each time still unable to get my questions answered. After finding out that there are no locations in my area to make deposits (in order to avoid the monthly maintenance fee- I wanted to deposit the $500); I tried to transfer funds with Zelle, then use an ATM but they all charged an exorbitant fee, TO MAKE A DEPOSIT. I attempted to hang in there and decided to deposit a check from my other bank through the mobile deposit option. My deposit was "deleted/ denied". This has been beyond a hassle; I'm closing the account and still experiencing hardship trying to do so. The mobile app is terrible and inefficient. read more

The customer service is pretty good until it involves actual money. Since this is a bank... well... look at the rating. I opened a checking and savings and have a modest amount in the bank. I let the checking dwindle a little low. I set up a payment to come in through ACH and forgot to transfer from savings to checking (yeah, think Kevin Hart). They charged me 3-$35 NSF fees even though the transactions were paid through my savings. When I called to figure out the charges, they gave me the standard bullshit response of: "Not our bank error. You needed to set up overdraft" Which can ONLY be done by mail (which they f*ck'd up my address change anyway). $105 to cover about $600 of transactions which ALL the money was there in my savings. They could have called me at the second charge if overdraft setup is an issue. Did they? I thought, no worries. I'll call them and straighten this out. All honest mistakes, right? My rating should tell you the issue was not handled to my satisfaction. I find banks to be predatory in this manner. It does not cost a computer $35 to say "Oh, your money is in your left pocket instead of your right?" It doesnt even cost 3.5 cents. So if the point is to not give "the man" all the highway robbery money, how's it any better if we're getting robbed by a black bank? Its not. I'll be closing my savings account since it offers NO value if i can just store all my money in one account (checking) and not have to worry about transfers. One United unity visa credit card did not report the payment I made last December on purpose to credit bureaus. This is a malicious company. When you contact unity visa at 800-219-6390 customer service can't answer your questions. They tell you to speak with credit card services with attitude. If unity visa gets mad at you, they'll block your account so you can't pay your bill. Also, they'll suspend you from making payments via Western Union including online. Then tell you to mail in a payment and after your payment is processed into your account, you can't make any additional payments for 10 days. They do this to make your credit score go down. Thus is an illegal company and will be reported! They won't give a reason as to why your account is blocked. Do not open a unity visa credit card at this bank!
