I ordered from Oni for pick-up. Ordering through their website was easy and food was ready in 15 to 20 minutes. I ordered their Shoyu ramen and the mini hamachi tacos. The tacos were so good! So light and fresh and delicious! It was a special so if you see if listed I would highly recommend. The shoyu ramen was good and I loved the toppings. I did feel the broth was a bit on the saltier side but overall a solid meal. The space looks very cool and if I had more time I would've loved to eat in. read more

Oni is one of those places where I'm extremely confident that no matter what I'm going to order its going to be amazing! My friend was craving Ramen after art walk so naturally we had to come here. I decided to branch out and try some things off the specials board- an ahi tuna taco and hanger steak steam buns. The ahi tuna taco was small but packed full of delicious tuna. Every bite had a good crunch from the shell mixed with the fresh aspect of the tuna. The star of the show was the steam buns though. Yummm! The texture was actually perfection. Best ramen in abq! I love their food, everything we tried was fantastic. We had their green chile ramen, dumplings, ribs and noodles, kale salad, and even their Brussel sprouts. I don't normally go for Brussels sprouts but these were actually delicious. I wish they sat you right away but you order at the counter via counter service and then they seat you. It is a smallll place and I came Friday at 6 and it was a 20 minute wait to order then another 15 minute wait for our food. It was well worth it so just be aware if you go right at rush it might be a minute. The staff is friendly and nice and the space is cool with a beautiful mural on the wall and cute decor. Holy cow what an amazing noodle house just steps away from my apartment! I love how intimate and cozy it is, perfect for a date night or just grabbing a beer with friends! It does get packed pretty quick and I would check their hours before going. They have a rotating menu of daily specials, nothing is short of amazing! We tried the red chile ribs with noodles and the spice level was perfect. I am an avid spice enthusiast so it's up to you what your heat level is, I would ask. We also tried their pot stickers and they were perfect for sharing! The service was friendly, prompt and professional. OMG, the pecan broth ramen is so so good. It's vegetarian and delicious and has a smoky, spicy, creamy, super flavorful broth and vegetables. It's very big and filling. Ordering at the host stand and bar was not my favorite from an operational standpoint, and the metal chairs were WAY too small, even for me at 5'4. Our party of four left shortly after eating because all of us were squirming with discomfort. Dining companions had been to Oni before and mentioned that the ramen eggs are unpleasantly watery, so I requested a traditional jammy egg instead. The staff told us that eggs could not be customized...and well, that's just stupid. I was only looking for something light and was happy that they had a selection of small plates. There really were a lot of different options though. This is an order, get your number, and find a seat sort of place. Service was pretty quick. I got the kale salad and shiitake dumplings. I expected some amount of spicing on the food (chile oil, togarashi) but wow did both of these dishes have a kick. The items my friend ordered were similar. Perhaps the ramen isn't quite as spicy, I'll have to try that next time. Warning to folks that aren't big into spicy this is beyond flavorful and definitely into the spicy realm. This little gem on Central Ave is our go to place on a cold weather day. As you go in you order at the counter, they have plenty of tables and a bar. This place butchered a perfectly good ramen with their green chile ramen. Here I was trying to be adventurous and branch out, but it completely backfired. The broth was way too mild and the flavors didn't complement each other. And who puts ground pork in ramen?!?! For sides I had the shiitake dumplings, which were too dry, and bone marrow that turned out way too salty. Overall really disappointed by the experience. The service was nonexistent! And that's no exaggeration. The waitress did not come by once to check on how everything's going. All the while I was sitting literally in front of her at the bar.... It's official! There is excellent steak tartare in Albuquerque. I ordered online and picked it up on a Saturday night. I ordered nothing else, but "WOW", I was impressed! It was well packaged and the temperature of the meat was cool. The "crisps" were crunchy and slightly warm as a perfect accompaniment. I regret not taking a photo, but I can assure you this is the real deal. Just an overall beautiful presentation and a fantastic appetizer. Next time I'll have to order two. read more

Oni is a ramen restaurant in Old Town on Central. David Gaspar de Alba and Daniel Linver are co-owners who opened Oni as a popup in 2017 before transitioning to a food truck, then finally opening the brick-and-mortar restaurant on May 22, 2020, during which they sold out of ramen within 10 minutes of opening. Oni's online menu is a small one with nine appetizers and four entrees from which to choose. The entrees there are the garlic chile noodles, the pecan ramen, the shoyu ramen, and the ribs and noodles. There are nine add-ons that diners can choose to add to any dish. The menu clearly marks which dishes are vegan, vegetarian, or gluten free, which will give diners a piece of mind if they are searching for those options. The dining-in menu is larger, has more appetizer and entree selections, and is more expensive than what is listed online. Patrons order at a counter up front and get their own water and to-go boxes. The employee who came up to take our order didn't ask what we wanted and just stared at us in front of her computer. We just said what we wanted before she swung the screen around to select tip options. We split vegan shiitake and cauliflower curry dumplings, which were $9 for five extra small dumplings. The dumplings were lukewarm since they had been cooked beforehand. I had the shoyu ramen, which consisted of smoked pork belly slices, pork bone broth, seasonal vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, a slow egg, chile oil, and leeks. I enjoyed the savory flavor and the smoked pork belly but would have enjoyed some spice to the dish. I also would have liked more of the pork belly slices included. The ramen was $15, which was a dollar more than the online menu price. Overall, a fine restaurant with a fun ambiance that deals in a lot of pre-prepared food dropped off by bored waitstaff. Pretty cool concept of American and Japanese fusion. The interior is simply decorated with really cool murals. I found their ramens to be lacking. The noodles are "al dente" for a lack of better terms. The short rib ramen was too salty. Even diluting it wasn't nearly enough. And not enough umami. Their vegan ramen broth was super creamy, but lacked the depth from umami. I think their shoyu ramen was the best one flavor wise, but again the noodles were a bit too firm for my liking. Toppings were all pretty lackluster. Was hoping for a soft boiled egg but turned out to be a poached egg too. Would probably come here for a beer and some apps. Probably better to not steer too far from what's popular here when ordering. read more

The beef tallow add on? Perhaps the mushroom red chile ramen this time. And what about those steam buns? Would I have room to fit it all in? The answer was always yes. You can imagine ALL of our levels of pure joy when Oni opened a storefront downtown. It's like I just can't get enough, still. I do have some new favorites though, and while I will always exclusively get my ramen from Oni, ramen is not my exclusive order there. On a cold December afternoon, I found myself with an hour to spare, downtown, and I mean, sorry all the other restaurants, but Oni just owns my favorite go-to in those parts. Okay, just get this: red chile broth, braised pork, hominy, roasted squash (brilliant, if unevenly cooked), slow egg, cilantro, onion, radish and homemade tortilla chips. I've been wanting to try Oni for awhile. The last time I tried to go it was packed with a pre-theater crowd and I wasn't able to get in. So when a friend suggested it for lunch I jumped at the suggestion. We got there a little after 1 on a weekday and it wasn't very crowded. Our meals came out quickly. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen. I almost asked that they not include the "slow egg" because I don't usually like runny eggs, but decided to try it. I'm glad I did. I broke the yoke and mixed it in with the tasty broth and it was delicious. The pork belly was melt in your mouth and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. A great bowl of ramen! I added a Japanese sparkling water to my meal and that was tasty too. In addition to being happy with my meal, I also liked the rustic ceramic bowl it was served in and appreciated that the chopsticks were reusable. All-in-all a very positive experience and enjoyable meal. The staff was friendly and I like all the windows, which brightened the restaurant. The only thing I wasn't in love with was how loud the music was...with no acoustical materials on the ceiling I would imagine that a packed restaurant and loud music might make the experience less enjoyable. read more
