I used to live in both San Francisco and Seattle where good hot pot was almost as plentiful as Starbucks shops. There aren't as many choices here. And sometimes when there's limited choice here I'll make do with what is available. Fortunately this place is great. You can order a single broth or a split pot. I usually go with the taiwan spicyy broth and one of the others. It's always good, regardless of what ingredients you order they'll pile the plate high. They offer tons of condiments and ice cream for desert. I've also ordered this as delivery which I thought was impossible. But they make it work. You order your broth (single flavor uless you get two orders of broth). You also order your ingredients and whatevder sides you want. I usually get beef, pork and meatballs. Rather than cooking yourself they come cooked in a container with a little brother and you add them at your leisure. I usually get the spicy chicken nuggets as a side and they are delicious. It's a huge portion of food and I almost always have leftovers. Great place! read more

Our hot pot included the mixed veggie plate (which includes everything listed in the veggie section of the menu except enoki mushrooms), enoki mushrooms, shrimp, sliced beef, pork meatball, and glass noodles for each of us. $56. First the food. It was absolutely fabulous. The appetizers were perfectly crispy and the sauce was not overpowering - they let the chicken do the talking. The broth was spicy but a little oily tasting. I was sweating the whole time which was awesome! The veggies, meats and mushrooms all had great flavor. This place was obviously using fresh ingredients. I'm sharing a copy of my bill so you can see that they itemize for things like the sauce/ ice cream bar as well as the cc fee. I like when restaurants do this because it means that they don't make everyone pay for things if they don't want those things. What a unique way of eating, here in the U.S. anyway. This restaurant does have a learning curve, understanding how to order, how much to order, how adding sauces and cooking your food works, and you do have to do some work. My server patiently described it all to me and answered my questions. I ended up having a wonderful time both times I've gone. The Thai curry broth is really good. This place is vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free friendly. The portion size is very large. The sauces on the sauce bar are delicious. I really enjoyed being able to mix them in just the ways I chose, that most were vegetarian and vegan, and deciding just what I wanted to eat- which broth, which vegetables and tofu. There is also green onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and such at the sauce bar. There are many options available. The fried mushroom appetizer was good too. Great for a group or date night. We've been here twice within a month timeframe. Once like on a Saturday evening and it got busy quick. I would say it's small as the amount of tables their were. I think it's a family own place and it seems like the son was working front of the house and he was very nonchalant about doing things from our observation. It didn't affect our meal though. We also came here on a Sunday as soon as they opened. My girlfriend wanted some warm soup because it's been pretty chilly lately. We were the first people there and it slowly had people trickling in. It was a different atmosphere here than the previous time we were here. I would say it was more professional as it was adults working front of the house. The restaurant itself is not the newest, the interior is a little dated, and the tables were old... But the soups are really good. My girlfriend ordered the Chinese Herb and I got the Taiwanese Sacha both times. I got mine spicy and it was the right amount of heat for me where you got the heat and still flavorful. You can order meats and veggies to put in your soup. You can make you own sauces at the sauce bar. I personally like a lot of garlic, sesame sauce, and green onions. Also a variation using peanut sauce. Both times we were here the soups were really good. I don't think there is another hot pot style like this in the ABQ area. It can get pricy if you keep ordering protein sides. We like it this spot, but coming from the bay area of Cali there are a lot of all you can eat hot pot spots for cheaper if you order a lot of protein and sides. There's certain meals that I can remember where my mouth reflexively waters every time I think of them. Zu Hot Pot is one of them. I'll preface by saying this was my first hot pot experience, but it was so good. If you've never had hot pot, it's an experience. You go up to a station where you can make your own dipping sauces (if you are unexperienced like me they have some handy recipes available). You then take all of your raw ingredients and put them in the broth for a few minutes. The viola! We ordered vegan versions of the chinese herb and kimchi broths, along with a variety of different veggies and tofu. The combination of the braised ingredients, flavorful soups and delicious sauces was a treat. The broth was so good I took leftovers home (which they encourage you to do!). The ambience is cozy, and it's nice to have everyone sitting around a boiling pot dipping and sharing together. Once your meal is done they have free ice cream you can enjoy too! It's too bad that we found this place so close to the end of winter. I imagine this would be even better in chilly weather! My friend and I had never had hot pot and had been wanting to try it, so on a blustery March night we made our way here. The helpful and friendly waiter explained the basics to us and we got the Chinese herb broth, added some noodles and an egg, mixed vegetables, and beef. This is a casual "a la carte" Chinese style hot pot restaurant where you order your broth flavor and spice level, and each add in is priced accordingly. You cook all your meat and veggies yourself and make your own dipping sauce which is key to an enjoyable experience. I like mine with sesame paste, sesame oil, soy sauce, chili oil, garlic and scallions. For broth, go with the Thai curry. The others are more bland, but the broth develops into a much deeper flavor the longer it has been boiling and cooked down with your ingredients of choice! I've visited twice now and I like it for NM standards since there currently are no other options for this type of hot pot in the state. The first time I visited was with a group of 4 which I don't prefer, since everyone is sharing the same pot. You can opt for a 2 flavored broth pot but it just divides 1 pot into 2 sides and the tables are small. The second time I came was just with my boyfriend and it was a great experience since we had enough room for all our dishes. Medium Thai curry for the broth was more spicy in the beginning, but developed into more of a beef flavor that was so good at the end with our udon noodles that we saved for last. We had 2 orders of angus beef, the mixed vegetable plate, quail eggs, udon, cuttlefish balls, fish balls, and the fish fillet. This came out to $57 before tax and tip and we were stuffed! We just love this place where you choose the vegetables and meat that you cook yourself in a hot pot. I like the Korean kimchi boiling pot. There are other flavors available. I like the thin rice noodles, both kinds of mushrooms, and the shaved beef. They only take a few minutes to cook. The small ears of corn somehow just do not fly. Skip them. The chicken and shrimp are good too. The Chinese Broccoli was a disappointment. They have a condiment bar with various sauces. My favorite is the peanut sauce. My wife and I visited here Saturday, March 5, 2022. Arrived around 5:45 PM and quite a few tables were full. This location is just north of Lomas on Juan Tabo, on the west side of the road. They are open every day of the week, from 11-9, except for Sunday, when they are open 11-8. Since we were newbies, our waiter, Marshall, brought us four broths to pick from. Our favorites were the Thai style curry and the Korean Kimchi. We selected both of these in "medium" heat. He brought a pot with a center divider. They have a digital hot plate on every table, and Marshall explained they used to have open flames till the health inspector squashed that plan. We selected the garlic pork belly appetizer, which turned out to be soft, cold, but very tasty. For our ingredients to boil we picked corn (5 ears), beef, pork, udon noodles, Chinese broccoli, and enoki mushrooms. Marshall explained how long to cook each one of these ingredients. It's quite fun watching these boil. We created our own sauce at the dipping bar, and Thomas (another employee) explained that he created sauce #1 on the posted list. He said it was the best. We followed his directions, and I must say, his sauce is a winner. It had the right amount of savory with the vinegar and the garlic and cilantro really brought it to life. I must say the service was great, it is a fun "do it yourself" place to eat, and it isn't too expensive. We paid a total of $44.88 for all those ingredients and appetizer. When you run low of broth, the server carries a tea pot to refill your soup pot. The service was a bit slow, but it could've also been busy. Our server was young, timid, but patient. He tried to answer some questions as best as he could. The place is still new, so that's understandable. They input your order on a digital tablet. So that's pretty cool. This was my first time trying hot pot style dining and it did not disappoint! We had split flavors: Chinese herb and Thai Style Curry. Medium level hot is pretty gentle and I could handle it even though I'm normally a mild level spice person. The protein portions are really generous, especially the ice tofu was like 10oz or so. (Definitely get ice tofu over the normal. It's more porous and really soaks up the flavors) My favorite part was the custom sauce bar where you could follow a recommended recipe or make one of your own creations! The chef in me really enjoyed playing with flavor profiles and made a killer sauce for my soup. We also had pork belly, steak, bok choy, Napa cabbage, and udon noodles. So good and, for us, an adventure in dining! There were three in our party with 4 choices of soup base (broth). They had pots that sat on a type of hot plate in the middle of each table. We could order 2 broths, which we did, and they were put into a divided pot. We chose the Taiwanese Shacha and the Thai Style Curry, which could be mild, med, or hot. We went for mild, which was tasty, and we could have added chili from dipping bar if we wanted it spicier. If we had to choose the favorite, all 3 of us liked the Thai Curry soup best. Next, we looked at the menu for add-ins. We got instant noodles (ramen), clear noodles, and white rice. In addition, we got a plate of mixed veggies (cabbage, bok choy, potatoes, mushrooms, taro root, etc), and orders of shrimp, scallops, chicken, and beef. Add-ins come uncooked, so you add to boiling broth to cook to your liking We arrived pretty hungry, so we also got appetizers: garlic pork belly and fried mushrooms. The mushrooms, especially, were a big hit. And you got lots of them. There were really good dipped in the mix-your-own dipping sauces. My fav was the recipe for peanut sauce. I also added the sauce to my soup bowl. Yum. Our server was Idali and she was great. Very nice and helpful, especially for newbies like us. We spoke to a nice customer at the next table who also offered to help us if we had questions. She explained that different kinds of hot pot style cooking is found in several countries. She was from Vietnam and said the style we were eating was more Taiwanese. She said she was so happy when it opened up since it's the only one in town. The wait for tables started around 6pm. We missed that and were seated immediately at 515pm. When we left, we had our doggy bags filled with enough soup for lunch tomorrow. Fyi...I think 1 appetizer and 3 proteins would have been plenty. One last word of caution is that the hot plates didn't have traction on the surfaces, so the pots could slide around while serving. No one needs boiling soup in their lap, so just be careful. Had the Thai Style Curry Soup delivered and was a bit disappointed. The Bad: The chicken was stuck together, lumped in a ball, and overcooked. Too much cabbage and not enough of the other ingredients. Unlike most Thai Curry Soups, it had no Coconut Milk. Oh, and the amount of rice provided was about 75% of what it should have been, c'mon rice is not that expensive. The Good: Broth had good flavor once I added the provided soy sauce, so it allows people who don't like salt as much as I do to enjoy themselves. The two pieces of mushrooms were DIVINE, but way too few. The one broccoli stem was perfectly done, but again, not enough. The potatoes were perfectly cooked as well, I prefer baby eggplant, but potatoes work. I'd recommend Krung Thai for their Green Curry, best in town and about the same price. For Hot Pot soup, I'd recommend Basil Leaf. I'll probably give them another try some day, but definitely not for the Thai Curry. read more
