Ambiance: Overall vibe is ok. Seating is available but only few. I wouldn't recommend studying/working here as there is only 1 actual table. Service: Ok. Guy who took our order was not really friendly and just asked what we wanted. It also took a while for us to get our order even though it wasn't busy. Food/Drink: We got the double matcha, and we thought it was not good. The color of the drink was vibrant green, and it was $7.5 for a 12oz drink, so I expected a lot since the color was promising, and that's how much I pay for a good matcha in LA. However, the matcha powder they use is very bitter and astringent, they are stingy on their matcha cream top (which was also just OK taste wise), and the vanilla syrup they use overpowered the drink which did not complement the matcha flavor. Yummmyy- so glad we came! I've been eyeing this place ever since they opened and I'm glad to have come! Inside aesthetic is minimal urban with 1 large table and sit around areas for small groups of 2-3. I was very curious about it the salt bread! When I heard a new matcha spot had opened, I knew I had to give it a try, and I'm so glad I did. ONN is located off Harbor in Costa Mesa, located across the street from the Vons plaza. They've got plenty of parking nearby, so it's easy to get in and out. The inside of the shop is cute and modern, with most of the seating being indoors along with a few benches out front. The staff was nice and quick to serve, they kept the constant line flowing so there wasn't much of a wait. I was excited to see this place serve salt bread, so I tried the ham & cheese and Snow White. Both were really tasty, with the Snow White being a pleasant surprise of salty and sweet (think of it as a well balanced cream puff in terms of flavors). I also tried the double matcha latte (with almond milk) and strawberry matcha latte (with oat milk), and both were great. My only critique on the strawberry matcha is the puree stuck to the bottom of the cup, so it was hard to mix it throughout. Regardless, the matcha quality was very good and the drinks tasted great. Overall, this is an excellent spot to check out, and is a top choice to visit if you're in the area. For being so new they did a great job, and I hope they keep up the great work! read more

Free parking in plaza lot right in front is really convenient, though busy on a Saturday afternoon. There was a line outside but it moved quickly and efficiently, with seating both outside and inside which is nice. Ordering at the register was straightforward and they had a menu to scan outside. I got no ice and but didn't mention they would fill the cup 2/3 or I would have just gotten ice. They were able to do less vanilla sweetener for the double matcha and confirmed if whole milk was ok which I appreciated. I didn't wait too long for the drink and saw they were hand whisking. The flavor was great, especially once mixed, and I would come back for the double matcha with ice next time! Very impressed! The quality of the matcha is some of the best in OC! I did think the matcha two needed a bit more foam, however, the sweetness level was arguably perfect! Went on soft opening day! Drinks were great and as expected. I got the Coconut Cloud Matcha (coconut water with matcha cream too and powder) and it was so refreshing. My friend got the double matcha, and she liked it as well. Drinks were the perfect sweetness despite us not adjusting levels. Staff were awesome! They let us film them making our drinks, were efficient in taking our orders, and making our drinks. Highly recommend coming earlier in the day as the salt bread was sold out when my friend and I got there. Congratulations to ONN Coffee on opening. I always laud a small business for taking the chance and wish them success! Not every coffeeshop is trying to be an industry trailblazer, and I'm cool with that. Their motto is, "Focus on Good Coffee, Good Time. Keep it Simple, Keep it ONN." It's a solid menu that delivers. No crazy novelty items here, just your straight-forward espresso based options, a handful of signatures, and three salt bread variants. I think they deliver here and for a slogan that says "Keep it simple. Keep it ONN" I think it sticks the landing. Yummy, well-priced, and would return. That said, I do think there's a handful of critiques they can address to tighten up the customer experience. ACCESSIBILITY: This is one of the biggest because it was noticeable 2 seconds after stepping into the front door. The way the wait line is positioned requires cutting through with your drink-filled cup to reach the straws/napkins. Not only is it really far from the drink pick-up, but it causes friction among the customers trying to say "excuse me" to get what they need while other customers are just entering and getting situated. Where the two big posters are, I think is ideal for a large, well-designed menu. I'm aware that QR-codes are the menu style du jour, but it's an odd choice to make the customer take an extra step when you could have it right there on the wall. At least have a print ton the window. I also want to emphasize that this isn't specific to ONN. Grid Coffee, In-Sit, Stereoscope, and several others all make the same mistake. THE DECOR: With something as personal as taste, I try to frame my critique on the basis of consistency. I love the travertine-style side tables, Nelson pendant, and wall sconces. I just think the holographic side-table at the entrance is... out of place with everything else. I also wish they were all the same side tables. They include a few plywood ones at the end. The small printer-paper sized posters looked a little childish taped up, and the larger posters that said "Creativity Mode-ON" and "CHILL" were jarring. I just think this is a missed opportunity for beautiful lifestyle photography of their drinks/bread and a larger-scale menu. DESIGN LANGUAGE: There's a lot of verbiage inconsistencies across copy placements--the sticker on the drink, the stamp on the boxes, the exterior store signage. COFFEE ONN, ONNCOFFEE, COFFEE ON N(with a space?), ONN (vertical logo). There's also two versions of the slogan which should be reduced to one for clarity and emphasis. Closing words--I don't leave these comments here to be mean-spirited at all. I want ONN to succeed. I think these are fixable points that can only contribute to the longevity of their business. If they feel differently, I'm happy to amend my review. read more

I really wanted to like this place :( I kept seeing all the online hype & decided to give it a try... They opened at 9 am today & we got there at 10:15...they were already sold out of 1 of their 3 options of salt breads (salt, mocha, & black pepper). I wanted to visit because instagram makes it look so yummy like a coffee/bagel place for salt bread! No, this wasn't that...this is giving "I only have options for influencers." The ambience is almost like desert chic meets LA...without the quality backing it. The matcha is decent, it's not bad...similar to what you could get in Ktown LA. The coffee, however, was REALLY BAD. It was burnt to a crisp. I work in coffee as well and watching the barista handle the machine today, broke my little heart. The coffee wasn't dialed in correctly...they use stereoscope beans which are good beans, it's just someone who doesn't know how to extract the best taste from the beans. If it's busy, put someone that knows what they're doing on pulling shots. We got served the WORST cortado I've ever had in OC, the milk texture was FOAMY?? Like an extra thick cappuccino? The salt bread is just mid...it's the most mid thing I've ever tasted. The mocha one was cold, hard, and stale. We both took two bites and threw it away... Service is whatever, no small talk, no greetings, just "what could I get for you?" I don't like talking either...but our transaction lasted less than a minute and I got 5 things lol Maybe it's all the soft opening crazies, but here are some things to note here. Their time management NEEDS to be improved (for the baked goods) and they should probably rethink their name. read more

We arrived shortly after they opened and luckily managed to get the salt bread before it sold out. If we had arrived just a little later, we probably would have missed it. I had the plain salt bread with a café latte, and for me, it was the perfect breakfast. The plain salt bread was a great alternative to a croissant--buttery, light, and satisfying without being overly sweet. It's not easy to find freshly baked salt bread of this quality in the U.S. It was every bit as good as the ones I've had in Japan and Korea. One thing to keep in mind if this is your first time trying salt bread: it's not meant to be an intensely sweet pastry. If you're looking for something sweeter, I'd recommend ordering one with cream or other sweet toppings. The café latte was also excellent--smooth, creamy, and well-balanced, with the rich espresso flavor coming through perfectly without being overpowering. Updating my review because there's nothing I hate more than when a business owner can't acknowledge mistakes or accept feedback. When you run a coffee shop, especially in the soft opening phase, you need to be open to feedback and not take things personally - I know this as someone who has personally been a part of multiple coffee shop openings. 1. When you type in "ONN Coffee" in Apple Maps, it takes you across the street from the actual location. Not sure why this was received negatively when I was genuinely trying to help bring it to attention so it could be fixed. 2. Claiming to be using ingredients you're not is just weird. I clearly saw a half gallon of Oatly Oatmilk on the counter during my visit. It definitely wasn't barista grade or Califia, as the Califia Oat Milk comes in 32 oz cartons and not a half gallon. If the Oatly was being using because there were stocking issues or something with the Califia, that's fine - but don't act like it wasn't there at all. Also saying quality is valued when using syrup like Torani is laughable, anyone who has ever worked in coffee or cares about quality knows this. It takes 5 minutes to make a homemade vanilla syrup, or a couple more dollars to invest in something higher quality. With the prices this place is charging, they can definitely afford it. Even just stocking agave would be better. I was actually going to give this place another chance, but when a business can't even acknowledge its faults or accept feedback, why would I bother spending another $10 on junk.
