I've been going to Chafinity since they had a booth at the Irvine Mariners Famers Market and was SO excited when I heard they were opening a tea house! I've been coming here for months, and it is easily my favorite matcha place of all time. Not only is the ambience of the tea house amazing in itself being outdoors with beautiful greenery, fountain, incense, and soothing/calming music... the tea itself is unmatched in taste, preparation, and intentionality. I love Chafinity's mission of honoring traditional Japanese matcha preparation, as well as also serving sencha and other loose leaf teas. They do not compromise on their values whatsoever to hop on current drink trends... they serve delicious hot matcha lattes with high quality matcha from Kagoshima, Japan and have a close relationship with the farmers who harvest the tea. My go-tos are the hot hojicha and hot matcha lattes served unsweetened with their delicious homemade walnut milk. Not only do their lattes honor the true, authentic flavor of the teas, but the walnut milk in itself is delicious and naturally sweetened with dates and is unlike any other nut milks I've ever tasted. I also am a regular customer of their premium Gokoro matcha powder which I prepare at home myself. This matcha is honestly the best matcha I've tasted compared to other matchas I've tried all over California, and even in New York (I'm a self-proclaimed matcha snob and have very high standards for matcha flavor!). Not to mention to mention the amazing businesses they collaborate with that prepare their mochi and wagashi (Japanese sweets)! I am a big fan of their strawberry daifuku (which I always order with my drink), created by Hanaichi Mochi, and also love trying the gorgeous seasonal Wagashi creations made by WaSweets. If you want to drink delicious traditional Japanese matcha (while also honoring the farmers who have worked so hard to cultivate the tea), I cannot recommend Chafinity enough!! One of the few reasons I would ever brave parking at CAMP would be for this place. Parking can be a hit or miss depending on the time of day you go. But this place is like walking into another world. 10/10 on vibes. Such a chill place. I got the matcha latte and my friend got the hajibi latte. This tea has great customer service. The line moved fairly quickly. The dessert and tea were served in a timely manner. You will see their baristas brushing the matcha powders. The selections of matcha could be confusing for the first time. But the server will explain with patience. The order came quickly. Their ice cream dessert was delicious with soft mocha like with red bean and vanilla ice cream sprinkled with matcha powder. The milk and matcha was smooth. Finally got to try out this tea house after hearing so many good things! I got the matcha latte with their house made coco almond milk and half sweet with honey. I think my order was absolutely perfect. Super strong matcha, right amount of sweetness, and the most perfect shade of green. I also got to try the matcha latte but half sweet with maple. It was great as well, just a tad sweet for me. If I were to get maple I would do a fourth sweet. I love how they pour the matcha right in front of you, it makes for the most aesthetic video. Adorable aesthetic which felt like I was transported to a garden in Japan. MOCHI was incredibley gooey and sticky while not being too sweet with all the flavors coming through really well. I actually liked the hochija and strawberry topped mochi flavors. Matcha was good and MILK options were very elaborate which I appreciated. I got an unsweetened hot soy matcha latte. They only have two sweetener options which I opt out of anyway. The premium matcha was $14 for a 12 oz which was insane. For that price point I was expecting the best matcha I have ever had which was not the case. But it was good and they seemed to be very precise and consistent with their ratio and quality. I appreciated the service knowing the exact grams in each beverage with their little scale visible in the window for observing the matcha making process. They definitely didn't skip on the details. It is smooth, bold, and rich. A great balance umami and natural sweetness. One thing I really like is that they use non-sweetened milk alternatives (unsweetened oat milk and soy milk). I love unsweetened matcha latte, but almost all places use sweetened milk alternatives. Their matcha comes unsweetened so make sure to add sweeteners if you can't tolerate the original matcha taste. We came right at opening on a Sunday. Parking is usually a pain here but it's a lot easier in the morning. The cashier is very knowledgeable and walked us through all the options, the origins, and the process of their drinks. You can see the matcha-makers(?) through a window, but I felt weird staring at them for too long. Seating is in front of the tea house, limited, and gets full quickly. We essentially ordered everything on the menu. Our favorites were premium matcha gokoro (hot) and its iced matcha latte counterpart with oat milk. We tried a matcha latte with their in-house coco-almond milk, but didn't like it paired with the uji midori matcha. The gokoro is smooth and deep, whereas the uji is more bitter and what people might describe as grassy. The house matcha latte is what I imagine more people would be used to. The mochis were alright. We actually had Hanaichi Mochi at farmer's markets before, so it was cool seeing them served at Chafinity. They were a nice thing to chew on after drinking so much matcha. I love that you can choose the type of matcha (house, uji midori, or gokoro) for the iced matcha lattes, or choose to drink them the traditional way with just a little warm water added. It was similar to our experience in Japan, and I'm glad it's now more accessible to taste matcha the "right" way with no sweetener or milk. I just wish the matcha was whisked more fully, as we noticed some clumps of matcha at the bottom. Overall, this was a pricey but nice experience to have! read more

Came on a Saturday afternoon to try this new matcha place at the Camp. Ambience is super nice despite the limited space being and line moved pretty fast for how many people were being served. The matcha was good but personally not sure if it warranted the price (the matcha latte went up from $9 to $10 in the couple of weeks since someone's yelp photo of the menu). We got the matcha latte, hojicha latte, and house matcha - the lattes tasted a little bland/watery to us and I personally would've liked more sweetness to balance the earthiness of the matcha. The strawberry daifuku mochi and seasonal wagashi were absolutely beautiful and had a nice subtle sweet flavor. Again though, I feel like I've gotten similar sweets at places in Gardena for a lower price point. read more

Very nice tea house and the staff was very kind. Definitely a long 20 minute line if you go at lunch on a Saturday. I recommend going with someone so they can grab a table while you wait in line. I don't think Chafinity is as enjoyable if you get your drink to-go. The ambiance of sitting down cannot be replaced. Unfortunately, they gave me the wrong tea for my teapot, the Gyokuro, but it was still good. They give you enough hot water for 3 teapot refills. I'll have to double-check my tea before drinking but hard to blame them when it was so busy. I enjoyed the strawberry diafuku by Hanaichi Mochi the best. It's very cool of Chafinity to partner with a local mochi company that is at the Orange and Irvine Farmers Market. The other mochis were very cute but could not compare to the strawberry supremacy. This new pop-up is super popular and the line goes crazy! Given that the wait was long and it was gonna take a while for me to get my order, I didn't expect much until I waited 40 minutes till I didn't get my Matcha latte. Mind you, I got the matcha tin that was $60 with the matcha latte so I was getting confused why my drink wasn't coming out after so many people who ordered after me already had their drink and left. After we asked for the order, finally, they remade the drink, but I'm not sure if they use the correct Matcha powder to make my Matcha latte since they had different types. I've been obsessing over Chafinity since they were just doing farmers markets on the weekends. I was so excited when they started selling their matcha powder at Mitsuwa and doing pop-ups at The Camp before permanently settling there. Chafinity is different from other matcha spots in the area. Everything feels very intentional -- from how they make the matcha, to the ingredients they use, to even the music they play. This is one of the few places I've been to where all the matcha are hand-whisked and you can see the worker prepares your drink through the clear glass. The drink isn't rushed. It's carefully crafted to your liking. The prices are a bit high, but you are paying for the quality. Service is great. The workers are always so helpful with recommendations without overselling. Parking is horrible here, shares space with many stores in this small plaza. The line for this matcha place was long but moves quickly. They make your drink super fast. You can't go inside, everything is outdoor and the seatings are outdoor too. I would come back to take my friends who have never been here. My sister and I had been obsessing over this place on IG for the longest time, so we finally made it happen and honestly, it did not disappoint! The moment we walked in, it felt like we were transported straight to Japan. It really does feel like stepping into a beautiful Japanese garden, which made the whole experience feel like a mini getaway. We both ordered the Premium Saemidori Matcha, though I went with mine as an iced latte because I just love a cold drink. It was smooth, perfectly sweet, and so refreshing. Seriously one of the better matchas I've had! And then there was the mochi. We tried the Strawberry Daifuku Mochi and the black sesame mochi and they were both absolutely incredible. So soft, so chewy, and the fillings were spot on. Hands down one of the highlights of the visit. The staff were also super friendly and welcoming, and they wore traditional Japanese outfits which was such a thoughtful detail that really added to the overall vibe of the place. Came on a weekday around noon and there was no wait (saw that there was a long wait on weekends). The camp is always busy in terms of parking even mid day on a weekday the lot was pretty full and we had to circle around once to find a spot. The overall ambiance is amazing! So cute and feels intimate with small tables under foliage. Service was also really good. Matcha itself was yummy however the milk kind of overpowers the matcha (they actually told us this about the oat milk and recommended almond milk instead which is lighter so we switched one of the drinks to almond milk) but next time would probably go with just matcha tea without milk. The deserts were delicious though!! The strawberry on the strawberry daifuku was so sweet and ripe and the mochi was so soft. Come early because they run out - we got the last sesame mochi on a Tuesday around noon and it was sooo yummy highly recommend. It's a lovely place to drink matcha and chat with friends. Probably wouldn't come back just for the matcha because it is quite expensive - for two matcha lattes, a strawberry daifuku, and black sesame mochi it was approaching $50. read more

We love Chafinity! Took two tries to make it work but indeed we did. First time we went on a Saturday afternoon and the line was so long I didn't feel like pretending it was Disneyland. Second time came back at an off time, say Wednesday at 3p and success. Were able to order after waiting in queue for only about 5 mins. Ordered two iced matcha lattes with walnut milk and it hit. The drink wasn't as matcha forward as we would have liked but the milk tasted so good that we didn't mind the milk forwardness. They had another milk add-on with a $3 upcharge (wild!!) but I think have recently updated it to $2 (still wild!). Prices are not for the faint here at Chafinity. I had seen a lot of reviews mentioning their long wait times, etc but am lucky to have not experienced this. Perhaps they're getting better at keeping up with their demand. Located inside The Camp Personally, I did not enjoy the matcha latte with oat, koji rice. I think the taste is a bit milky and the rice flavor is a bit overwhelming. I got it full sweet as well. Maybe I should've tried it with one of their house made milks but it is an extra $3 surcharge. My husband got the hojicha latte with milk and I liked it way better. It has a roasted taste but he did say it is also pretty milky. We came grand opening day and waited about 45 mins. Prices are also kind of high. They ran of daifuku like 2 hours before closing. Both drinks were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. One thing I did like was the option to customize your sweetener--they offer choices like maple syrup and honey, and the maple syrup was a nice, unique touch. We initially went with half sweetener, but ended up adding more since the drinks tasted a bit bland and needed that extra boost of sweetness to really come together. We visited on a weekday, so the wait wasn't bad at all, which was a plus. They have multiple milk options but I prefer whole milk to keep it basic in order to taste the matcha better. I got it less sweet, which was good enough. For matcha latte, there was only one option for matcha powder while there were two choices for usucha and I don't mind it because their matcha latte were similar to what I got in Japan or made at home. I came two times, one on a weekday morning and the place was empty, parking was easy to find, and the order took about 5 minutes. One later on a weekday afternoon before they closed, which were packed. The parking could easily get horrible. The ambiance was cute, they have a few tables for dine-in. It does get busy pretty quickly so make sure that if you go that you are not in a hurry to go somewhere else. Depending on when and what day, The Camp can get pretty packed; so parking could be an issue. The matcha they offer is more on the traditional side with less sweetness. However it is a very good experience to try! They offer various diary and non-diary options and I opted to try their house made almond milk with their Matcha Latte. Depending on the day (and what they have left) they offer various desserts. Very disappointing experience and extremely poor customer service. The first time I visited this matcha shop, I ordered 10 cups of matcha, each around $11 for an 8 oz cup. The staff asked if I wanted whole milk or another type of milk. I asked if they had oat milk, and they changed it for me, but they never told me there would be an extra $2 charge for the milk. The second time, I came back and ordered three of their cheapest 8 oz matcha drinks, which were $9 each. I told them I was not drinking them right away, so I did not want ice. I never asked for extra milk. However, when I tried the drinks, they were mostly milk and barely tasted like matcha. When I mentioned this, instead of offering to remake the drinks or fix the problem, the employee was told me that I have to pay extra for more matcha because their matcha is expensive. And also told me next time, if I order no ice, I need to specifically tell them to not add extra milk. I have never experienced this kind of customer service at a drink shop before. The matcha is already very expensive, and I feel that the mistake was made by the shop, but I was still have to pay an additional $4 to fix the drink. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Chafinity isn't really selling matcha. It's selling intentionality. Before you even walk inside, there's a menu on a stand so you can decide what you want without feeling rushed. Then there's another menu once you're inside. The drinks are displayed beside the register. Every step feels considered. You get the sense that someone actually thought about how people move through the space instead of simply trying to push a line through. The tea house itself is tiny and beautifully understated. You can see much of the preparation happening behind the counter and whether it's the equipment, the careful whisking or simply the pace of everyone working there, it creates immediate confidence that they care about what they're making. The matcha was excellent. Smooth, rich, earthy and not overloaded with sweetness like so many places today. Whether you're enough of an expert to tell the difference between ceremonial grades is another question, but it tastes clean, feels thoughtfully prepared and somehow makes you slow down. Maybe that's the point. The downside is the price. Around $14 for a relatively small drink is hard to ignore. You're paying as much for the experience as you are for the tea. It's also surprisingly warm inside. There isn't much airflow, so on a hot Southern California afternoon it can get uncomfortable if you're planning to linger. Still, the experience stays with you. The drinks are beautiful, the atmosphere is calming and everything feels intentionally crafted instead of mass produced. I don't know if drinking premium matcha makes me healthier, but it certainly makes me feel like I'm making a better decision than grabbing another sugary coffee. Is it worth $14 every day? Definitely not. Is it worth visiting at least once if you appreciate thoughtful design, beautiful spaces and exceptionally prepared matcha? Absolutely. read more
