Definitely a classic for me. Ono Hawaiian BBQ has been a spot to satisfy my craving for chicken katsu. This spot is located in a plaza with a huge parking lot. They have indoor and outdoor seatings. I picked up lunch for the office from the Calloway location. The restaurant was busy but clean. Staff were friendly and greeted me when I walked in. The to go area is clearly marked so no awkward looking around. Our food was ready when I arrived and even had utensils in the bags. The issue we ran into is the Mac salad, If you've ever had the Mac salad here you know how amazing it is, but this time not so much. It tasted basic, like salad you buy from a grocery store. We were so disappointed! We had all been craving that salad and it was terrible. I don't know if the recipes changed or if each location makes it different but because of that I probably won't be back to that location. We also really liked the beef bbq but the chicken katsu was overcooked and dry. The portions are large so you will have leftovers. I loved the sticky white rice and the bbq sauce. I tried this place for the first time after a spin class. I got the fire chicken mini meal-perfect for one or even two people. The marinade/seasoning is extremely similar to what's used to make al pastor meat. The meal comes with one scoop of Hawaiian Mac salad and and 1 scoop of white rice. I made it a combo , which only came with an order of fried wontons, not sure if drink is supposed to come with a meal but i wasn't given a drink cup or offered one. My order was to go so it was handed to me and the worker walked away from me so I could t really ask about the drink. She didn't even ask if there was anything else I needed nothing handed my the bag and asked away which is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. I will go back for another item next time and hopefully they can be just a little bit more helpful. read more

This place is more of a fast food type restaurant, so I wouldn't compare the food to the authentic Hawaiian food from Hawaii. We usually get the Hawaiian BBQ mix plate for variety and some BBQ chicken musubis on the side. Their mac salad is tasty. Good food, but something bothers me about eating somewhere where I can make everything at home. It's not like a steak house or a burger place, where you could never get it just right. With this type of restaurant anyone and everyone could make this style of food. I just wish they had something a little more special on the menu or even some sort of desserts. Went to the newer Rosedale location and it was really the same as the East Side location. Good food at a good price. The staff is always nice and even when busy, they keep things moving along well. They keep the place very clean, and keep it moving on the food. I'm a fan for sure, but only go once in a while because I like the super greasy/fatty Kalbi Ribs and so have to only order once in a while. Their food is so good though, really love it. The macaroni pasta was so good! The rice and veggies were also delicious...but I would go home with a bucket of macaroni pasta. That's my jam (and what helped me gain the Junior 30 in college). After I walked in and ordered, there was a huge line that formed. You know it's a good place when more people are coming through the door. The food was hot and the grilled chicken had a ton of flavor and was juicy! Nobody likes dry chicken.
