Happy Hour Review- Always looking for new Happy Hour places to add to the rotation and found one here. I guarantee you will not leave hungry from here, not sure you can tell from the pictures but it was a lot of food. Everything was good but my favorite was the pulled pork taco, the meat was tender and the coleslaw was a better pairing with this taco then the tri-tip. We had micheladas and they refreshing and only $5!!! Biggest improvement would be that the service kind of scattered and food was getting delivered to random tables before finding the right one. Not a fan. I've been here several times hoping a different food choice will peek my interest. But it never hits. I've tried the kickin chicken grilled cheese, a burger, and the hangover burger with various sides like the garlic mashed potatoes, sausage links, and the chile verde Mac and cheese. I understand the use of AI use because it helps businesses lower costs but geez have a little bit of diligence. Turns out their menu board is just AI slop. Ordered corn cakes to try a new side. Looked different, crispy. When I got my order I got corn bread, I asked the guy if it was a mistake and if it was easy to swap. If it was difficult and had to be cooked on the spot I'll just keep the bread. He kept looking at me like I was stupid, I don't think he understood why I was confused or that their menu isn't what they serve. They have other items they serve that are apparently popular but aren't on their board such as chili verde Mac. I later came back to ask for a fork cause they ran out in their self serve, but he looked at me already fed up before I even got to ask. Their food actually looks pretty good which is a shame cause you don't get to see their actual food off their menu. After finishing up a long work week, my friends suggested we gather at so-cal. They had gone the week before and had nothing but positive things to say. We arrived at 7:30 after an intense game of pickleball , and we were famished. They are split and have outdoor seating, and indoor. One side is self-serve and one side you have a waiter. We sat in the self serve and ordered literally everything on the happy hour menu between all 6 of us. Leo and the other employees were all fantastic! Personable and pleasant. Service was quick , they call our order and you pick up at the front. Make sure you load up on some chile torreado, grilled onions and yellow peppers (beware! They have a kick). The chipotle smash burger 4 stars ( order the double and it makes it a 5 star , since it is a good ratio of bread and meat) Trip-tip taco - 5 stars It was loaded down!! Chili verde mac- 2.5 stars for me. It needed a little more oomph! My friends all loved it though. Pulled-pork nachos and tacos -4 stars Very tasty Beers are also only 3.50 during happy hour! Told my husband to pick out dinner in the SW and this is where you chose. There are two choices. Serviced or self served. We went self served. The cashier suggested the tri tip and the Philly cheesesteak. We were recommended the fries and Mac N Cheese. Its a chile Verde Mac n cheese which my husband didnt know. I was able to taste it before he gave it back. It had nice flavor, a little spicy kick. Thankfully they let him swap it out for the fries. This is what a grill should be all about. The tri-tip is incredibly tender and juicy, and it pairs perfectly on just about anything: salads, sandwiches, tacos... you really can't go wrong. I've ordered the tri-tip salad a couple of times now, and both times it was just as good as the last. The portion is generous, and the dressing that comes with it reminds me of a Thousand Island-style dressing, but even better. My coworkers ordered the fish and chips, so of course I had to steal a bite. Wow...so delicious! The fish was coated in crushed corn flakes, giving it the perfect crispy texture on the outside while staying juicy and flavorful on the inside. Service was fast and friendly, and there's plenty of indoor seating with ample parking outside. They also apparently offer a happy hour Monday through Friday from 1-4 PM with lots of food and drink specials, which is a great bonus. Oh my gosh it was so good!!! We ordered the rib plate which comes with 2 sides. My grandson got the fries, and I got the chile verde mac and cheese for sides. I ordered the tri tip taco from the happy hour menu for me. I also got the strawberry margarita on the happy hours menu. Everything was excellent. We can't wait to go back and try other things. The plate came out with four meaty ribs and my choices were the onion rings and chili verde mac and cheese. I'm not a fan of mac and cheese but when its a chili verde mac and cheese made with a white cheese, I'm all in. And I also enjoyed the little side salad. They are very generous in their potion servings to where the servings were more than enough to share. Upon waiting we received someone else's wings which were garlic Parmesan - which confused us, bit were quickly token away due to them bringing it to the wrong table...no biggie, but the sauce smelled disgusting to me. When we received our food, the Chicken BLT sandwich was 5.5 at best! The Pulled Pork Sandwich was a 4.1, super dry and the whole sandwich fell apart. The BBQ sauce was amazing tho! There are two s sections to the restaurant, a full service side and a self service side. We were going to stay for a while and visit, so we chose full service. There were five in our party and we grabbed a table. Our server came by and took our drink orders. The menu is full of barbecue options. We chose the pulled pork sandwich, fries and a drink. It's a nice place, but I thought the music was too loud. Has anyone ever asked a restaurant to turn up the sound system to better enjoy a meal? At times the smoke from the grill permeated the space. Went in to try the hoppin' new BBQ joint and left with a similar feeling as when I walked outside to find someone had drilled a hole in my fuel tank to steal my gas. Before I get to the explanation for that bold statement, allow me to first acknowledge the tri-tip was actually pretty decent. I grew up on Santa Maria Style so I have high expectations when I see Tri-Tip on the menu and they did a pretty good job. HOWEVER, I would be remiss if I did not warn any future patron of the shady little scam this company is pulling. The menu said $18 for the tri-tip plate, and even though that's a little steep, I was starvin' and figured I could swallow that price tag. When we got the check, it was rung up as $22! When I asked the waitress, she pointed out a *very* fine print at the bottom of the menu that says "PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE". I looked at my mom, who looked like she was about to have an aneurysm and the only response I could muster was "IN THIS ECONOMY?!" I have never seen a business run like that and will definitely be taking my patronage somewhere else when BBQ tickles my fancy again. I mean for heaven's sake, we're all barely hanging on out here. We were meaning to try this place for awhile because I have been such a big fan of their food truck! I absolutely love their quesa birria but surprisingly, they didn't have it here. But since we wanted to try what they have, we ordered a burger and some shrimp tacos so we can try two different types of food. I love the burger, meat is tender and they were generous with the veggies and sauce. They mistakenly gave us a shrimp burger instead of a shrimp taco but they were extremely apologetic for the mistake and even told us to keep the burger. Came by for a car meet. Thought we'd give the food a try. Been here when it was La Mina before and I really like what they've done with the place. Very spacious and the menu and video screens made it easy to order. Got the hangover burger and OMG was it filling. The chipotle mayo sauce was really good on it and had the egg busting down the sides and even ordered fried mozzarella for that cheese pull. I went here for the first time was impressed. The location is the old LA Mina restaurant, for the most part it looks the same, but looks like they added a lot more TVs and decor in the restaurant. What ordered was the 6 piece buffalo wings and mozzarella cheese sticks (menu showed 3 but came with 6) we were greeted by a younger gal, who was thin, had tatoos on her arm, and tall. When I ordered she explained Wednesday wings are 99 cents. Score! I didn't catch her name, no name tag, and we didn't get a bill receipt that would show servers name. All this is electronic now? I'm assuming all prices were correctly charged? My parents got burger with fries and chicken sandwich with onion rings. My food was very tasty, the buffalo wings were made perfectly! The mozzarella cheese sticks are very large rectangles. Our server looked like she was covering the whole bar area and tables, it was understandable that she forgot extra napkins and didn't ask us if we needed refills in drinks. I got the strawberry lemonade as a drink which was very refreshing. Lastly, as customers came in our server forgot about us, I went to the bar where she was to ask for to go box and the check. When she approached our table with the bill it was all digital on a machine, no receipt to see charges and prices. If you're in Bakersfield area, check this spot out, the food is good, the atmosphere would be really cool to watch a sports game. Southern California Grilling Company has some really good food. Their tri-tip sandwiches are excellent. The meat is tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. Every time I've had the tri-tip it's been consistently good and definitely something I'd recommend. The salad was also a nice size, which I appreciated. It's always good when places don't skimp on portions, and the salad felt like a proper serving instead of a tiny side. The atmosphere was nice and the facility has a good amount of spacing, so it doesn't feel crowded. The staff were also super friendly, which made the experience even better. My only disappointment was the hot link sandwich. The hot link itself was about the size of a small hot dog, which caught me off guard because I expected something much bigger and more substantial for a sandwich. Other than that, the flavor of the food has been great overall. If you're a fan of tri-tip, that's definitely the item to try. We decided to give it another try after we seen they improved their menu and so we came for date night and got $1 Wings and burgers! On my drive to and from work I've passed this spot everyday for several weeks, so finally we decided to stop in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Upon entering you'll notice a very open layout (which I love) For takeout orders you'll go to the left and order at the counter, for dine-in you'll go to the right and be waited on. I also shared a basket of onion rings with my wife. My son got a basket of fries as well. The tri-tip was very moist and tender, with great flavor, served on a soft warm bun. I was skeptical about the chili verde Mac, but it was outstanding. Great flavor without being too spicy, and cooked perfectly. The onion rings were also delicious. I don't know if they did it on purpose, but I like how the fries were a bit overdone. They were very crispy with an irresistible seasoning. Went for the first time the other day with my husband. Food was really good, food came out hot. At first we questioned why service was slow but the bartender was working the bar while also serving tables. It wasn't super busy but he did a great job serving both areas as we waited. I believe SoCal was hosting an event outside the restaurant which makes sense why less employees were not present the day we went for our first time.
