This company was recommended to us by Ring to install their doorbell and a lock system for our front gate. They were terrible !!! - They recommended a lock that does not work properly. We found out later from Ring that this lock should not have been used with our wrought iron door. - They left in a hurry on a Friday afternoon after working in our cable panel and did not check to see if there were any problems. Our telephone land line and internet systems were not working. We had to get Cox Communications to get our telephone working again on Sunday. - OnTech returned on Monday to try to fix the remaining problems. They again left in a hurry and the Level Lock system still does not work properly. -Even though the locking system still does not work, OnTech has refused to come out again to fix the problem and honor their stated Satisfaction Guarantee. read more

I could not remember the name of the company, so finally figured it out after the warranty of 60 days expired. I have a Nest smart thermostat. Nest themselves suggest using On Tech for their installations. I installed the thermostat myself and connected everything with the exception of my central humidifier. I did not do so because it was more convoluted than the rest of the installation and outside of my comfort zone. To get this done, I decided to hire On Tech and gave them the specifics of my setup and needs. They claimed to have the expertise to get the job done and arranged an appointment. One of their techs showed up to our appointment and proceded to check my setup. After a couple of minutes, I heard him watching the same Youtube videos I had been watching during the week. These videos were examples and explanations of Nest thermostats connected to humidifiers. To say the least, this did not inspire confidence. About 15 mins went by before he came back to me and confessed he had no idea how to do it and would rather do nothing than break something. At this point, I appreciated his honesty and transparency. I was not ready for what he said next, though. He claimed he would only charge me for diagnosis and be on his way out. As it turns out, the diagnosis was $100 and the payment included a short pitch on their subscription model. I believe there was nothing to diagnose (since nothing was broken). I was beyond upset and wanted the man out of my house. I paid, said thanks, and walked the man out. I will never hire On Tech again, for any services I require. Customer beware. Unlike many install/service companies, this company charges you 100% of the fees well before they even come to your home. Therefore, the customer is at a disadvantage if work is not performed or done satisfactorily. Seniors are at a particular disadvantage because 1) they may not know about fair and reasonable practices, 2) may be unknowledgeable of the technical nuances of the product they need installed, & 3) because of health issues, just not have the time or ability to express these concerns...it can be overwhelming. My complaint involves two failed installations (for the same initial contract) as follows: 1. OnTech charged me for contracted work not satisfactorily completed regarding the installation of a NEST Hello camera. After the tech worked for about two hours, they could not get it to ring my house chime (or even my phone). Therefore, if a visitor tried to ring my doorbell, there was simply no audible sound inside my house (or on my phone) that someone was at my front door. In general, the OnTech technician didn't seem knowledgeable about the NEST Hello camera as they spent a long time trying to get it linked to my phone. In fact, it was only successfully linked after I suggested to the tech that they try using the NEST app instead of the Google app. Although that did work, they still couldn't get the chime to work, and they simply gave up. Therefore, reconnecting the Ring doorbell camera (which they previously disconnected), was my only solution. I bought the NEST Hello camera to replace the Ring camera only because I had other NEST cameras in my house and wanted all of them on the same application and account. When I asked the technician to reconnect my old working Ring camera (3-5 min process), the technician told me that my refund would be facilitated by signing added paperwork. However, instead of OnTech refunding me $114.99 for the unsuccessful NEST camera install, they billed me that same amount for reconnecting my old Ring doorbell camera. If anyone pays a company for installing something and that install fails, they should not charge you for putting back the original item that was working fine. OnTech disagreed and refused to credit me for this charge. 2. The second install failure regards OnTech attempting to install a new doorbell transformer. Another tech came to install the new transformer, and it became apparent that they didn't have the skills to do this. The previous doorbell transformer was installed by an electrician and was securely mounted to the electrical box. The OnTech technician connected the new transformer but forgot to first take off the mounting nut. Therefore the new transformer's wires were connected but the transformer could not be mounted to the electrical box and was left dangling by its wires (a potential fire hazard). Also, during the process, this technician didn't seem to understand how "wire nuts" work and struggled for a long time to connect the wires and lost track of where some wires were connected. Ultimately the new transformer did not work, and I was told to hire an electrician. OnTech said that I would be refunded $29.99 for this failed install, but this never happened. The total requested adjustment came to $144.98 (including the fee for the NEST Hello). OnTech refused to adjust anything. I requested to speak with a manager, but they never contacted me. In conclusion: I'm not saying that this company is 100% bad. They did successfully install a NEST Outdoor camera....quickly and efficiently. This person was the first technician to come to my house and seemed very knowledgeable; the other two were possibly newbies and lacked experience. However, my main peeve, is that the company should just abide by fair business practices. If a company can't do the job correctly, they should simply refund the customer. The fact that they not only didn't do this but "justified" this action by charging a customer for 3-5 minutes of time to put things back where they found them, seems unethical. The fact that the tech asked me (a senior) to sign more paperwork to "speed up the refund", and one of these documents was used as a basis for refusing the refund, seems very unethical. Do not use this company. Had many initial install problems and took way too long to resolve. Then the system went down months later and my office in Tigard Oregon would mot even talk to me. They referred me to a corporate number and they just wanted more money to fix what they should have done right the first time. I spent one week trying everything and finally connected all 8 devices. A second call into my local Ontech went unanswered Their website says "If for any reason you're not 100% satisfied, we'll work with you until we get it right. Hello,  My technician appeared not to be knowledgeable.  He came to our home and stated that my Nest Thermostat had a compatibility issue.  He said that I needed a new control board for my furnace since I had a 3 zone system and that Nest was competing wit the other two zones.  He suggested that I call a HCAC specialist.  My friend and I diagnosed the issue yesterday.  The ground (common) wasn't connected to the furnace.  All it required was a voltmeter, screwdriver and needle nose pliers.  We hooked up the ground at both sides and everything went smooth.  I am very disappointed having spent $149 for bad advice that was able to be corrected by 2 laypersons.  I find it hard to believe that OnTech sent an expert to my home. read more

We had an appt with On Tech to install a Simplisafe system at two units - a duplex in Aurora. Our appt window was 8-10am. We got an email saying they'd be there between 7:45 - 9:30. I hustled to be there - as the landlord I don't live at the address. I got there at about 7:50? Nobody was there. At 9:15 I called OnTech and they told me someone had been there and already left. I said they must have arrived at 7:45 and left within 10 minutes, because I was there. I was told someone would be out before 10. At 10 I called again. I was told someone had come at 9:25. I told them that couldn't be true because I was there. Upshot - we had to reschedule. When I asked for some $$ for my time and trouble I was told someone had come so it was on me for missing the appt. Basically, they called me a liar. I'll never use this "service" again. read more

This place is horrible. I sat in an empty house for 2 hours during their tech's installation window for a video doorbell and an outdoorcamera install. He was 45 minutes late but at least had the courtesy to call. He didn't find wires in the wall for the doorbell when he showed up but suggested an indoor power adapter. He upsold me a $15 adapter for $50 but whatever, rescheduled install for the same saturday since he didn't have it on his truck. My next install window was 12-2, I showed up, 2PM came and went. No call, so I called the ontech number, They said he was running behind and that it would be around 3-3:30. 3:30 comes and goes, I call back around 15 minutes after, they say the tech reached out and they were missing a part. So was the tech running late or were they missing a part? I was told a field supervisor would be reaching out "by tomorrow morning." "Tomorrow morning" comes and goes, I call back in, they don't know what's going on. The person on the line says she sees in my account notes that someone was supposed to reach out and doesn't know why the call didn't happen. I ask to get connected to him and they can't do that (i believe this work is contracted out) and so I ask to speak to an ontech supervisor which there were none available. 7 hours of waiting around and I have nothing installed. I have never received worse customer support. I asked for a refund and will never book ontech again. read more

The job was poorly done from the start! Ever since the installation I have been having constant problems with not being able to use the regular heat, not connecting to Wi-Fi etc..The company just blamed everything to my furnace which I asked HVAC company to come and check few times and everything was good and working. Prior the installation we had no problem. After, onTech customer service asked us to pay $130 an hour to come and do the diagnostics on the installation which they already should have done a good job from the beginning. At the end I lost my time, installation fee and numerous hours of dealing with it myself. I will not choose this provider again or recommend anyone. read more

I purchased a Simplysafe security system for myself and my daughter as a Christmas present. I paid $124.99 for my installation and $124.99 for my daughters system, CC was ran immediately before installation and when it came time for my installation I requested a window of 10-12, tech called me and was running 2 hr behind and then asked if I had outside cameras that need to be installed and I informed him that I paid for a 10 piece package to be installed. He then told me that outside camaras are not included in the 10 piece package I choose, and I was not scheduled for outside cameras to be installed. If I wanted them installed it would be additional 125.00 per location equaling 250.00 total to what I already paid of 250.00 for installation for a total of $500.00. I canceled my installation, and we decided to do it ourselves. I wish I had read the reviews before scheduling, and when I followed up on my refund they informed me that it takes 10 business for a refund and only 5 minutes to take my money. Don't use this service. They essentially contract out the work and there is no quality control. I hired them to install a Ring Alarm and the kids they sent had no training or deep understanding of the tech. They were figuring it out on the fly and installed things incorrectly. We had On Tech install a surround sound system, a security system, and an Internet boosting system called Nest. When we called customer service at On Tech, we were told that they do not warranty the sound system, or the Nest system. One of the surround sound-speakers is blown and not working. This was 35 DAYS after the installation. They said they do not warranty these parts. They said WE have to take care of calling the manufacturer to deal with this issue. The Nest system turned out to be incompatible with our AT&T Wi-Fi. We were told that WE had to call Nest To have their units returned. This company is very happy to come out do their installation stuff and then take your money. Subsequent to that, they will not stand by their installation or the products that they install whatsoever. This company was great. I have a Ring floodlight camera that got disconnected when I changed wi-fi providers. Not only did I not have the original packaging with the QR code, but the device is 30 feet in the air where I could not reach it. The people at Ring were clueless about getting it set up again so they gave me this company's number so I could pay them to set it up again. The tech was able to walk me through setting up the device on the phone through the Ring app for no charge. Amazing service. Ring on the other hand, not so much. read more

Ontech smart services lacks the skills to provide the services. They are the opposite of smart. I recently ordered a diagnostic for a ring device, the on-tech technician came and asked me a few questions and said there is nothing he can do to fix the issue and just left. When i called ring customer support they said that the technician should have contacted them to resolve the issue and I ended up solving the issue myself. Not only on-tech smart services did not provide the service that i paid for, their agents gave me false information and they denied to refund my money. It is the first time using there service to replace a previous ring doorbell in the same place with the new version. It has almost the same bracket which I installed before his arrival to help him out and hang the new doorbell on it to see if it fit perfectly...when he arrived he gave me right away attitude and told me he did not do diagnostics only installations. when I explained to him the bracket was the same and I tried to help him and did not do anything else and that he needed to connect the electricity wires and the chime and set up everything he gave me more attitude...so I cancelled his service right there and demanded a refund of my full payment, never I encountered such a bad service from anyone read more

We had OnTech attempt to install a NEST Wifi Thermostat on our two zone forced air HVAC system, a system thought by NEST to be compatible. In the end, the Technician had no idea how to make the thermostat functional, or even determine if it was function properly. I was assured that there was a 60 day warranty and if it did not work I would be refunded the installation fee. However, once I informed that company that the installation was not functional, the response was, we can't give a refund because an installation was performed. I would strongly recommend against using this service unless you already know that the installation is straight forward and uncomplicated. read more

Pablo was very helpful and remedied my THERMOSTAT ISSUE within a few minutes. The OnTech representative assured me (when I first used service in September 2021) that if I was dissatisfied with membership I could cancel with prorated return of fee/$ for the time left on contract. Now they say a customer only can cancel in first 30 days. Horrible customer service. On my day of appointment, I received an email that the tech will be late by 40 minutes. I then called two hours after my window of appointment. Marshall answered the phone and was rude about how he doesnt know why technician is late or he cant guarantee service today but happy to cancel my appointment. I called back another hour later to cancel as still no show (now three hours after my window) and Marshall (got the same guy twice - lucky me!!) was not apologetic about the delay and was too happy to cancel as he still had no idea how much longer the technician would take. read more
