A fabulous find north of the Dulles Airport neighborhood if you're visiting the area and have a set of wheels. It's not a large place and the signage out front looks suburbia slick when compared to the homey feel of the interior. The strip mall it's in has plenty of parking just like most areas of north VA. The staff are quick to seat, take orders and serve but never made us feel rushed. We went traditional and opted for a gyro and a chicken souvlaki pita with a side of avgolemono soup. Sandwiches are a good size and you can Opa! them to add fries inside it but we felt that would have been too much. The soup was a rare surprise. I've long held the standard for Greek lemon chicken rice soup The Great Greek in Sherman Oaks, but this came pretty close. They excluded carrots for color and the chunks of chicken weren't as plump but the fact that they used orzo sold me. My friend isn't into unusual flavors like lemon in soup so I happily consumed most of it. The sandwiches were so good I wanted to take some home with me, but I didn't think they'd survive a 5 hour flight. :( The tzatziki sauce was divine but they understand the concept of too much of a good thing and only put just enough on the end of the pita. Not sure what went wrong here. We placed an order for carry out - maybe that was it? Our meals were 1. incomplete and 2. DROWNING in grease. Absolutely disgusting. Especially for what it cost and the distance it took to pick it up. BOTH our meals were missing our Greek side salads. Maybe my husband should have taken a cue when he had to ask for yogurt sauce and pita. Call me crazy but I'm pretty sure it's standard that 3 slivers of tiny pita bread and one serving of yogurt sauce comes with a dinner plate of chicken kabobs and a meat platter trio, no? GROSS! ***in response to the business manager's comment*** No where on your menu does it mention a Greek dressing was included or even was to be drizzled over the entire meal. IT'S TAKE OUT! If anything this dressing (not mentioned anywhere in the description) should have been placed in a container to be added by the customer when they return home. PLUS the meal had fries ALL of which were soaked in this dressing (grease) and pretty much had to be tossed. For $20+ this meal was an absolute mistake. One of each, the Opa! and Chicago style. I had the opportunity to try both of them and both were very good. They both had a good mix of veggies, meat, and delicious tzatziki sauce. I preferred the Opa! gyro personally... probably because I love pork and it had french fries on top, and who doesn't like french fries?? :) The Chicago style was no slouch though! The gyro meat on it style tasted better than a lot of other gyro meat I've had at other places in the area. Not sure if its a different brand or what, but it was good. Seemed less greasy and tasted fresh and not burnt. Tzatziki sauce is really good. For a big meat sandwich, it somehow almost tasted refreshing and light because of it. The staff was very friendly and the order was ready on time as stated over the phone. Smiles all around. The place was packed on a Wednesday night, so business is good. I've been to many Greek/Mediterranean restaurants since I was originally exposed to spanakopita, moussaka, dolmades and grilled octopus while stationed in Germany 15 years ago. That being said, we ordered for 3. The beef dolmadikas were simply to die for! The meat/rice mixture was superb, not overly starchy and not at all greasy. The sauce was heavenly and well balanced. I ordered the Mousaka. Mousaka is traditionally served with eggplant, potato, beef, and a thick layer of bechmael sauce browned and baked on top. While this seems simple, some places put tomato sauce on top, leave out the eggplant, or try other things to "americanize" the dish. What I was served at OPA! was a perfect rendition of Mousaka I remembered being served by my greek friends while overseas. My wife had a falafel gyro and greek potatoes. The falafel was spiced well not over done. She liked the gyro/falafel ensemble a lot and remarked on the tzatziki sauce. I'll also say the greek potatoes were superb, not overly inundated with vinegar and nicely browned. The consistency was fabulous. My 9-year old son ordered a kid's Chicago gyro. It was an adequate portion for a kiddo and he liked the fries which looked hand-cut and fresh. To top it off, we had a piece of baklava. I like to make it a point to support small businesses--especially when those businesses are worth every dime. OPA Mezze is located in the Ashburn Village shopping center. I swear, some of the most hidden gems are nestled away in overlooked shopping centers. I get the same thing every time (gyro and fries) because it's that's good! The gyro is self explanatory, but we need to talk about these fries. A side of fries won't do. You have to order the "OPA! Fries." Wow, good eateries have popped up because I have been giving 5 stars recently. I really liked Opa! Mezze Grill! We went around 4pm on a Saturday and were the only customers. Before we left, most of the tables were occupied. It's obvious that they get good business, for good reason. The Mezze sampler was good because I got to try a lot things and know what to order in the future - my favorites were the spanakopita and stuffed grape leaves. I got the OMG Platter for my kids and I to share. Mistakenly, I ordered by saying "Oh My God Platter" and was corrected with "OMG - Opa Mezze Grill". Duh, I felt stupid! It had Opa Burger meat (almost like a kubideh), Opa gyro meat (pork), Chicago gyro meat, chicken skewer, pork skewer, fries, pita, and tzaziki. I loved the fatty, thinly sliced and crisped edges on the Opa gyro meat. The Chicago gyro was traditional beef and lamb meat, and also flavorful and good. I could go without the other meats, but that's just my preference. We liked it all! My husband ordered a Chicago gyro, which he was impressed with, and he's hard to please. My 5-year old son kept saying, "this is so good!" with every new thing he tried. The service is quick and the owner/waitress (?) had a surprisingly sweet and funny personality. I love Greek food and my friend suggested this place after working up an appetite at the shooting range. The waiter suggested the baked feta for an appetizer which was amazing! The peppers and olive oil all melded together in harmony with the feta and the hot pita bread to pick it up was amazing. I had the Opa gyro where the meat was perfectly seasoned and the fries were nice and crispy. Only wish there was a little more tzaziki sauce. This place is small and unassuming, but has fantastic Greek food. I went here for lunch and opted for the Chicago gyro. It was served with a generous amount of tzatziki and was one of the better gyros I've had. The fries I ordered on the side were surprisingly good. They seemed to be hand cut and had the right amount of salt. I honestly wasn't expecting that. I ended the meal with a Greek coffee and a piece of baklava. I'm not a huge fan of Greek/Turkish coffee, but it's always a fun experience to have it in the moment. It was more mellow than my previous encounters. I'm not an authority on baklava, but it was very good; sweet, dense and yet flakey. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful and contributed to the overall experience. Im not going to bother with Wegmans Greek salads ever again! Generous portions like they would be if you were at a family dinner. Salads are never served with limp leaves and are always crunchy, fresh, and packed with water :) Parents had the pork and chicken gyros which were packed with meat, fries, and an amazing homemade yogurt sauce.
