At our table we also ordered the shrimp tacos, the barbecue chicken sandwich, the chopped salad, and the loaded grilled cheese and we all loved it! The waiters were very helpful and nice and we got our food promptly in about 15 minutes. Temperature inside was great and it has a nice lighting and feel attributing to the warm and homey atmosphere. Natalie and I both enjoyed the Elixir, a refreshing non-alcoholic drink with salted cucumber, ginger cordial, lemon, and Q Mixers soda water that was light and perfect for a warm evening. The Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad was a satisfying choice with crisp romaine, flavorful blackened chicken, crunchy brioche garlic croutons, and creamy parmesan Caesar dressing. I ordered the Atlantic Salmon, served over a warm farro salad with roasted mushrooms, wilted baby spinach, kalamata olives, marinated tomatoes, and a bright charred lemon emulsion. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and the combination of flavors was so delicious that I came back the very next day just to order another one to take home! Overall, we had a wonderful experience. While there are a few small details that could elevate the experience even further, the quality of the food--especially the salmon--makes Open Road a place I'd happily return to and recommend for a relaxed lunch or dinner in Rosslyn. read more

Wait.. who gives POPCORN in place of bread?! Dry, salty, plain.. POPCORN! Like.. what?! Thus began dinner with an old friend at 5pm on a Wednesday. Open Road was .. ALMOST great.. almost. The popcorn was a real head-scratcher. That very first impression was a real letdown and totally anemic, but the food made up for it.. mostly. Still, that opening was.. just.. sad... The location is very busy, with heavy traffic on Lynn Street, and when I arrived I had to navigate a farmers market just to get to the front door. I got reservations on OpenTable. Arrived early, got seated anyway. It wasn't busy at five, but it was definitely busy by six. On a Wednesday. Then ..we were given popcorn... I'm sorry, but ..who the h*ck gives popcorn?! I mean, really, popcorn?!?! Very disappointed by the popcorn. No drizzle, nothing to dip it in. It was just boring. It's the plain, cheap, filler snack you serve to guests you don't really care about or run out of the good stuff. Fortunately, it was absolutely saved by the jambalaya, which was very delicious. With just a little hint of spice, it came with large pieces of shrimp, andouille sausage, and chicken. Absolutely delicious. Loved it. It would've been 10 times better with bread... Although, to be fair, I did add some popcorn to the jambalaya and moved it around in the sauce.. It was tasty... But it would've been better with bread... Speaking of bread.. my friend and I shared the bread pudding. Delicious. For the cost, I was expecting something maybe 20% larger, but it was quite good. Scoop of nice ice cream on top. This was my third visit to Open Road, and unfortunately I think I'm done giving it another chance. I've never been particularly impressed with the restaurant, and I have always thought it was seriously overpriced. Tonight reinforced both impressions. The service was poor from the beginning. Our server was not particularly friendly and seemed annoyed when I asked what wine they were serving for happy hour. He answered "Pinot Noir." When I pointed out that I could read that on the menu and was asking which winery, he finally told me. I later looked up the wine and was pretty surprised that they were charging $7 a glass at happy hour for what is a very inexpensive, poorly rated wine. Drink service was also painfully slow and uneven. Two drinks came out, and the other two arrived several minutes later. The same thing happened around dinner. When I asked whether our drinks were coming, the response was basically, "I'm still waiting for them." Not particularly helpful. The server did not seem to care that I was sitting at the table with my dinner in front of me and waiting for the wine I ordered. I can't speak for the food everyone else had, but my tuna was awful. It wasn't spoiled, but it tasted extremely fishy and certainly did not taste fresh to me. Tuna simply should not taste like that. The biggest problem, though, is the value. Open Road charges prices that create an expectation of much better food and much better service. Based on three visits, I just don't see the justification for the prices. I have walked past this place and had to check out their happy hour. Their happy hour is only at the bar and it is not the biggest space. It is a progressive happy hour so yes all the drafts are $3 from 4-5pm and going up after that. The service was slow and terrible where the guy poured half a beer and walked away. The happy hour prices are hard to beat but unless the service gets better or they actually expand the happy hour beyond the bar area it is not an easy recommendation. read more

Me and my sister came here for dinner. Started off ok with a really nice hostess seating us and taking your appetizer order. We got the nachos that were sweet and spicy with the fresh jalapeños. I really liked them with the chicken added. After that, it was down hill. We never had a server come back for our order so we had to ask someone who our waiter was so they could take our order. I think they were short staffed but there wasn't any communication going on to make sure people were being taken care of. I ordered lemon pepper wings and a side of fries. I don't recommend. Fries came out warm and wings were over cooked with hardly any lemon pepper on them. If you want to get a nice beer, it's probably a good spot to try but otherwise, I personally would pass. read more

Stopped by Open Road for Happy Hour and Dinner recently. It's very conveniently located next the Roslyn metro and has lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurants vibe was pretty cool; however I wasn't very impressed with the food options. It was full standard American food none of which I felt had anything that stood out. I got the burger which was delicious but not quite what I had hoped. I got their old fashioned and that was tasty and came with a big ice cube (a must!) Our server was very attentive and kind to us throughout. Overall, Open Road is a great restaurant for families or picky eaters but if you like a more adventurous meal, maybe check out some other places. read more

This is a great spot to come into if you are in the Rosslyn area. They have a very decent happy hour and the food has always been consistently great during each of my visits. I am a huge fan of wings and this place does not disappoint. The service is very friendly. Indoor and tented outdoor seating are available which is nice for the hot days. If you are going during the week after work be sure to arrive early as it can get crowded with company happy hours. It's a solid, middle of the (open) road, experience. Free popcorn, plenty of seating, and decent service. The covered patio is excellent whether you're alone or with friends. I've dined with Open Road three times now and I feel comfortable saying it's solidly OK. The portions are fair, the prices are city prices, and the food is good. It's not knock-your-socks-off fantastic. The service could be a little more prompt (the water will be empty for a while). The experience is similar to that of a chain restaurant and that's why I'm a 3. Highlight from this past trip: bruschetta, bruschetta, bruschetta. Absolutely delicious. We ordered mac & cheese and bruschetta for the table and an assortment of burgers, fries, a poboy, and salad. Again, wouldn't discourage anyone from making a visit. I wanted to share some feedback about our recent dining experience. During our meal, our waitress accidentally dropped a large glass of water onto our table. The glass shattered, another glass broke, and water spilled all over me. I understand that accidents happen, and I don't hold that against the waitress. What disappointed me was how the situation was handled afterward. The manager brought me a T-shirt to change into, which I appreciated, but there was no adjustment made to our bill or any other acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Having managed a restaurant myself, I know that guest recovery is an important part of customer service. While I wasn't expecting anything excessive, I did expect some gesture such as discounting part of the meal or another form of compensation to recognize the disruption to our dining experience. I wanted to share this feedback because I believe the response missed an opportunity to turn an unfortunate accident into a positive customer service experience. read more

Loved this place! Such a great date night spot. The aesthetic inside was really cool and they had the lights dimmed down enough to make it feel intimate which I loved. Their selection of beers and drinks were great with so much variety. Menu options looked amazing. Their burgers were amazing, the veggie burger was HANDS DOWN so good!!!! I'm really impressed. I've been here a couple of times and don't expect to be going back. The food has always been mediocre at best. This most recent time, they added slow and inaccurate service to the mix. They took our drink order and then came back, saying they didn't have the ingredients for one of them. They took our food order and delivered some wrong items to our table. And the food, once we finally received what we ordered, didn't taste very good. Add to all that a 5-to-15-minute delay between each interaction, and you can understand my overall dissatisfaction. Swung by after hearing from friends that the burgers here are very good! My friend and I got the Open Road classic burger and the French Onion burger and went halfsies -- the Open Road burger honestly wasn't very flavorful, which was surprising. The French Onion burger however, was flavorful and delicious! The fries on the side were also deliciously crispy and hot. The Jambalaya pasta could have used some more sauce since some of the pasta pieces were dry. Service was pretty friendly, though not as attentive as I thought it would be considering it was pretty empty at the time we swung by. We ordered the strawberry mojitos which might have been one of the best mojitos I have ever had (not too much ice, not too sweet). We ordered the mac and cheese, the brussels, and some wings. The mac and cheese was simple but good because it wasn't too cheesy, the brussel sprouts were pretty good but a little heavy on the blue cheese, and the wings were surprisingly super good for not being a wing spot. I've had different servers multiple times and I really commend them for being awesome servers even during the busiest times, juggling multiple tables inside and out. This time I came to dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered chicken wings to start. They were very good. Freshly hot!! I ordered a veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've had, with tons of fresh ingredients and different vegetarian-friendly incorporated ingredients like beets, hummus, avocado. The veggie burger was held very intact, an indication of a veggie burger done well. My boyfriend enjoyed a blackened chicken salad which was very yum too.
