We love this place! I took my kids ages 10-14 and we ordered 10 rolls, some appetizers and a kids meal. I am a vegetarian and they had such a great selection. I had two sweet potato rolls, an avocado roll, a spicy veggie roll, an asparagus roll, and a cucumber, cream cheese and avocado roll spicy. All of my rolls were wrapped in soy paper. We also ordered the Godzilla roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, calamari, a Boston roll and another I can't remember. I also ordered cold sake. The service was exceptional, and we all loved the sushi. My daughter and her friend had never had sushi and they love it. I highly recommend the sweet potato rolls. Everyone loves them. The menu is large and in addition to sushi they have hibachi and Szechuan. They also have many entree options and lunch specials. I will definitely be back this is our new sushi restaurant for sure. I have recently started my sushi journey. I started off saying I hated sushi- but after my visit here I had to reevaluate my life. I found a new love for raw fish? Who would've known! I thought I hated avocado? Now, I want all the rolls with it! After my experiences at other sushi places, I realized that good sushi is expensive. But let me tell you, open sushi is worth it. Inside the restaurant was nice. Clean, nicely decorated, and quiet. Not a lot going on, you can hear someone chopping something in the back. The people are also very nice. Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of all the different rolls I took a picture of that I LOVED.. it's a shame. But I'm almost certain that anything on their menu will exceed expectations. Sushi has quickly become something I absolutely crave. I always start with clear soup, and then order 2 to 4 rolls depending on if I am alone or with my girlfriend. Today we decided to try Open Sushi after finding it with good ratings on Yelp. The atmosphere was nice, and colorful, and we ordered Clear Soup to start. Besides the clear soup at our favorite sushi place, most places have clear soup that is quite predictable and typical. Open Sushi had the typical kind, and it was delishous. We also ordered 2 rolls - the Crazy Roll, and the Spicy Tuna Roll. It was delicious, but did tend to fall apart a little easier than what we usually have. We also ordered the chicken Katsu with white rice, and found it to be quite good also. They had lunch specials with a nice price for 2 rolls or 3. Since we ordered the katsu, we went with just two rolls to keep it light for lunch. The service was good and we enjoyed a great lunch for about $20. Right... so several weeks back, hubby and I were doing our usual grocery shopping on a week night and saw a new sushi place in the Public shopping center. We decided to just go in and give it a try (with groceries in the car no less.. good thing that night it was nice and cool and we had our cooler bag with us lol.) Open Sushi was quite a pleasant surprise for us. First off, we love donburi dishes with Pork katsudon (fried pork cutlet with egg covering heaping amount of rice) being our absolute favorite. So I had to try it when I saw this dish on their menu. It was a huge portion (dinner portion) and full of deliciousness. We also ordered our usual yellowtail roll/sashimi and tamago. Then we decided to be a bit more adventurous and ordered a fried Tokyo Roll. I say adventurous because we typically do not like fried rolls. We were not disappointed. The yellowtail roll & sashimi were fresh and good amount of fish. The Tokyo Roll was so lightly fried and delicious. We've been back a few times since then with friends and family to sample more dishes. Every time we were stuffed and enjoyed our dining experience. The service have been consistently great and very friendly. Glad to see yet another good restaurant near us. read more

Wow just wow 5/5 This review is based off an uber eats delivery and will not review in restaurant service. I ordered: Sake Nigiri 5/5 - the salmon was FRESH, the portion was large. And there wasn't an over bearing amount of rice. Spicy chicken appetizer 5/5 - to get this delivered scorching hot, still crisp and not one dry piece was amazing. Not to mention their yum yum style dipping sauce! Deep fried shrimp shumai 5/5 - ok who does deep fried shumai ? Well open sushi does and it's AMAZING. I wish I had ordered two order of this. I've only had it steamed and just tried this out of curiosity. I dipped it in their spicy chicken sauce (don't judge, or do). House combination fried rice 5/5 - there is something about a delicious fried rice for take out that seals the deal. All the meat was tender, plenty of shrimp, and the rice tasted like it was freshly toasted/fried on the hibatchi grill top. Not salt, not bland. Very good choice for Sushi in the Baymeadows Sushi area. We happened to be over in this area for a volleyball tournament and this was a perfect choice for our group. No free appetizers like you get at other sushi locations, but very friendly and professional service to highlight your meal. One of the pluses and the minuses is that they have lunch portions of your favorite meal to provide a budget conscious decision. Thankfully that option is available on Saturday, unlike most places. Our first choice was Chicken Hibachi, which was rustic cut, chunky and consisted of meat and vegetables with a side of rice. Food was prepared well, but missed the finer points like noodles, cute garnishes and multiple sauces. I did love the chunk carrots on that plate. Next came the sushi plate and the first thing I notice was a minuscule bit of ginger, very pink ginger. Most places you go today use a very white ginger today. So this throw back surprised me and since I am a ginger fan, I pretty much consumed it all, since I could not get our servers attention to bring more. The sushi was good and my family loved the sweet potato roll, so kudos. The last course was my Bento Box, which we shared like the other meals. Bravo to the well prepared Tempura items and shrimp paste balls, but woe the the substandard fried rice, pink ginger and meager amount of sushi. Hidden little sushi place off Old Baymeadows in the Publix shopping center. Came here today for the first time for lunch and they have a really awesome lunch deal: 2 basic rolls for $7.95 or 3 for $10.95. I wanted something more than the basic so I ordered the Polar Bear roll which was pretty good and also my go-to spicy tuna. Open Sushi has one of the better spicy tuna rolls in my opinion. The restaurant is small but cozy. It wasn't super busy during workweek lunch hour so we were in and out in about 30 minutes. Parking was a little rough since it's shared with Publix and the surrounding shops. I would totally come here again. You should check it out. read more

Very fresh sushi! This was my first time ordering. I ordered chirashi and it was delicious. I usually don't like tuna or salmon, but I was surprised to find these were so good. This place was unassuming and not someplace I'd normally eat at, but I saw reviews and decided to get takeout for lunch. The hostess was nice and helpful and helped me pick out a menu item. I decided to get the chicken teriyaki lunch plate to be safe and then an order of shrimp tempura rolls. Where this place lost two stars was the chicken- it was waaaayyyy over cooked and dry. I didn't enjoy it at all. The veggies and the shrimp sauce were very flavorful and were the stars of the show. And so by using my shrimp sauce for dipping, I was able to get past the dryness of the chicken. The sushi was ok too. The rolls were kinda puny to me, but the flavor was good. Not the best I've ever had, but not the worst either. I'd say this was a ho-hum experience overall ... not the worst but I'm not sure if the excellent shrimp sauce and veggies are enough to make me return. Well see. read more

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food was so good. We had the steamed Shumai and fried Gyoza and both ended up getting the Spicy Crab Volcano Roll to start. She got hibachi while I decided to try something new and settled on the Sukiyaki Don. I have never had this before and was pleasantly surprised. For the local sushi place Open sushi does everything right. The sushi has been ultra fresh. The specialty rolls take up a full page. The menu night be daunting at first but I really haven't had a bad item yet. The cooked food like the chicken teriyaki and fried rice has been excellent every time. The apps, whether raw or cooked, have been a great start to any meal. For example, the steamed shumai is always a great choice. Overall, they do everything right. This was only the second sushi place my husband and I have tried since moving to Jacksonville in June however I truly enjoyed my dinner. The ambiance is nice, casual. The food came quickly and the service was courteous. My husband had the sashimi deluxe and I tried a roll. The fish was quite fresh, I would say on a scale from 1 to 10, about an 8.5. My one complaint was the soy sauce. For some reason it tasted really watered down. My husband pointed it out to me. I'd definitely come back though. Next was a combination of nigiri which included salmon belly, cuddle fish 2 ways, tuna, yellow tail, and salmon fin (WOW!) Lastly I was presented with a combination roll that was topped with hand picked seaweed, fire roasted salmon, escolar, and tuna that presented a unique flavor to each piece. The fish is fresh, they actually know exactly where their fish vendors get their fish from...Japan, Korea, Brazil etc. The crunch in their sushi rolls are fantastic and not soggy like most places tend to get. The sushi was not good. I ordered a dynamite roll and it was not fried like I wanted. The sushi itself was falling apart. The miso soup even had a weird taste. I hadn't been here so I wanted to try but I definitely wasted my money. I like dynamite rolls that are fried not baked and sushi rolls that stay together while I eat them. Food was really good very creative when I'm in the area I like to stop by there. It's a little pricey than some places but worth it.
