Love that their sushi is made proportionately and are the perfect bites; not just globs of rice made to be taken in 2-3 bites like other places - biggest sushi pet peeve! Here you taste all the ingredients you're expecting and everything is just great quality. Favorite rolls are Houston, Brown Dragon and Green Island! Their hibachi is also amazing. Steak and veggies are cooked to perfection. Never had a dry steak here. Veggies are brilliantly slightly undercooked so that it still has a good bite to it and not soggy. Fried rice is flavorful. This is a wonderful little jewel located in the strip of shops at corner of old baymeadows and southside blvd - out in front the Publix. The restaurant is small, very clean and well lit. The service was great, we were well taken care of, drinks and food was brought out at steady pace, and all requests for sauces and extra wasabi were delivered quickly. The food was fantastic! We ordered sushi, several special rolls, cooked veggies and noodles, shrimp tempura, everything was delicious! They also have bento boxes and authentic katsu donburi with egg on top, and offer several domestic and Japanese beers and sake. I rarely leave bad reviews but wow. My family of 5 came here starving so we ordered 3 apps, 5 rolls, one hibachi dish. Literally nothing was good, everything was just edible. Edamame and love seafood apps were very small. Rose roll was as expected but there are only 5 pieces of sushi. Rainbow, Fuji, and dynamite rolls were just ok. This is our go to Sushi restaurant! Everything we have had so far is delicious. My hubby really enjoys their seafood soup. Savory broth with fresh veggies chock full of salmon, squid, shrimp without any fishiness. All the ingredients taste so fresh! Their sushi rolls are wonderful. I love the sunshine roll. The addition of super thinly sliced lemon is what sets this sunshine roll apart from other restaurants. The staff are so accommodating, quick, and friendly. I have some allergies to shrimp and avocado (I know! It's sad!). They are so willing to adjust some of their rolls for me so that I could enjoy some of the rolls made with shrimp by substituting with a seafood I could eat. Once again... superb sushi and service. Started with Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad. Followed with beautiful sushi that was delicious. I started with their lunch special of three rolls for $11.95. I chose Key West roll, Escolar roll, and Tuna Avocado roll. I added a special of the day True Love roll. Beautiful roll with lobster salad, shrimp tempura, fish eggs, and eel sauce on top. The inside was loaded too but I don't remember what it was. I do know it was delicious and then some. I always enjoy the presentations here as they are always creative and beautiful. My wife and I ordered a plate of their Sweet Volcano roll for appetizers with clear soup for me and miso soup for wifey and bowls of salad with ginger dressing. We had the Chicken Katsu and Beef Shogamaki for our Mains with fried rice. The Beef Shogamaki reminds me of Bistec (one of my favorite Filipino beef dish). Flavorful! We ate everything. Well damn. Open Sushi is a bit of a hidden gem in this unassuming strip mall. Since I've been working a lot at Coffee Grinder lately, I thought I'd give them a shot when the hunger pains set in. After one visit, I'd absolutely return! I walked in at a weird time. 4:50pm on a Saturday. As one would guess, the place was empty. I certainly didn't mind since the business gave little old me their undivided attention! The restaurant is laid out fairly well, with many small booths, an even smaller sushi bar, and a long wall of seating. College football was on, so I opted to sit smack dab in front of their television. Cutting right to the chase, the Dancing Tuna and Treasure Island rolls were both great. When I eat sushi, I'm mostly looking for freshness, and I feel I got my money's worth here. The roll with the sliver of jalapeño topping was the bee's knees if you ask me. A smidge pricier than some of the other local sushi restaurants, but the stellar service more than made up for it. Very happy after this visit and I'd encourage anyone who likes sushi to give Open Sushi your business! read more

The wait staff are very friendly. The presentation of the food is above average. However, the food is lacking in taste. The vegetables were basically raw and had no seasoning. The fried rice tasted like it came frozen on the grocery store shelf. They also up charged $1 which is fine but it wasn't on the menu and I was not told about it. Most other customers got sushi. Maybe teriyaki isn't their strong suit. There are other restaurants in the area with better flavor that I'd recommend trying instead. I had heard really good things about this place and it DID NOT disappoint. My wife got the beef fried rice and it was phenomenal. Beef was tender and seasoned great. I got a house roll and spicy salmon roll. My favorite thing about it was how fresh it was. Sushi eaters can tell when the fish isn't fresh but this was absolutely fantastic. This was krab and salmon wrapped in seared squid. While there was only 4 pieces I was still very happy to eat it and it just melted in my mouth. I didn't want to eat too much because I wanted to make room for BBQ later because like I said, Fourth of July. I ordered just one roll which I knew had to be bangin'. From the extensive list, I chose the Special Spring Roll: fresh tuna and mango, spicy tuna and seaweed salad on top. Share? Nope. All 8 pieces were all for me. That's greedy-talk isn't it? Everyone else was enjoying their food and I tend to order things that are a little out of safe zone. I like the addition of mangoes in my sushi for a tropical sweet flavor to my fish. They were so good. The service was really great and I believe the manager checked on us several times and wished us a Happy Fourth as we paid and left. The food is very good. The fish tastes fresh and the rolls are rolled well and you can tell that care is put into the preparation of your meal. There are lots of choices for raw and cooked sushi. There are also many other options for noodle and rice dishes. The inside of the restaurant is simple yet adequately decorated and feels very peaceful. There are booths and tables as well as the sushi bar. The restaurant is located on Old Baymeadows Road near the Subway in the Publix/CVS parking lot. That little secret is that if you visit Open Sushi, you're going to walk out of there completely satisfied, with a wallet that's not much lighter, and you'll want to come back as soon as humanly possible. I've had my share of strip mall sushi before and it usually tops out at "decent". Suffice to say, it was some of the freshest and most delicious sushi I've had in ages. Each piece of fish was melt-in-your-mouth tender, served just below room temperature. The rolls were perfectly composed, sauced just right (if they had a sauce), and the presentation was absolutely beautiful. Service was excellent on both trips. The servers are very friendly, helpful, and even when it was very busy on our second trip, our food came out very promptly. Don't sleep on this one. You will absolutely not regret it. read more

Nice music playing at just the right volume. The lunch specials are reasonably priced and the selection is good. You can choose the two roll or three roll and both come with soup or salad. My salad was flavorful with a nice ginger dressing. I was having lunch with a friend and we were sharing so the server suggested all the rolls in one plate. What a nice idea. My favorite rolls were the Spicy Tuna and Tuna Avocado. The rolls were very filling and made with fresh ingredients. This is a really good sushi restaurant and I look forward to returning. read more

We love this place! I took my kids ages 10-14 and we ordered 10 rolls, some appetizers and a kids meal. I am a vegetarian and they had such a great selection. I had two sweet potato rolls, an avocado roll, a spicy veggie roll, an asparagus roll, and a cucumber, cream cheese and avocado roll spicy. All of my rolls were wrapped in soy paper. We also ordered the Godzilla roll, a spicy tuna roll, a salmon roll, calamari, a Boston roll and another I can't remember. I also ordered cold sake. The service was exceptional, and we all loved the sushi. My daughter and her friend had never had sushi and they love it. I highly recommend the sweet potato rolls. Everyone loves them. The menu is large and in addition to sushi they have hibachi and Szechuan. They also have many entree options and lunch specials. I will definitely be back this is our new sushi restaurant for sure.
