What a fun and casual place this is! Came here because my son was playing as part of the live music and have to say, this place is easy to "take in". When looking for the place know this...it is in the basement of South Side on Lamar. My GPS took me a bit past the place when I came but luckily I figured it out pretty quickly. If I had a coffee shop like this near me, I'd come every morning to grab a cup of vanilla chai latte (this is SO GOOD here) and read a book in a cozy nook. Great vibe here and cool decor - little neon signs, photos of musicians and records on the wall. They also have chess and other games set up at some of the tables. This is a great stop if you're passing through Dallas and a hidden gem for the locals! Open mic nights, performances, etc take place here in the evenings. Definitely coming back, if at least just to try their fresh pies, which look amazingly delicious. read more

I love the inside of this place! Super chill place to have a cup of coffee. Located down in the basement but easy to find. They have lavender syrup, which I always love at a place, and I ordered a lavender latte but didn't taste any lavender. Maybe she forgot to put it in? Disappointed. The coffee was just okay, definitely not the best I've had but I do love the atmosphere. I also feel their prices were a bit high compared to other coffee shops. Best coffee shop in Dallas. It is in the basement of an old warehouse bldg that are now loft apartments. Funky and comfortable. They also serve some breakfast and lunch items and serve wine and beer in the evening AND (yes, there's more) have live music most weekends. So I just ordered a tea and asked them to step for six minutes. This is how I've always ordered my tea. The girl at the register turns to the barista and says hey she wants six minutes. The barista (shaved head shorter young girl) then starts mocking me and says oh not five minute not seven minute specifically six. Is this good customer service and how someone working behind a counter should treat a paying customer? For record, tea is supposed to be steeped then the loose leaves should be pulled for best flavor - you do not leave tea bags in tea while consuming. Never again will be back. Shameful that a place this cute could have employees that disrespectful. read more

I loved this place! Great coffee, great food, great staff, great atmosphere. The only suggestion I would have for improvement is their hours (they open to late for a coffee shop as far as I'm concerned) but I'm also not the business owner so I can't really say what's best for them. Next door to our hotel in the old Sears building located on the basement floor is where this resturant is located We came for breakfast. Those who have read my reviews before know that I am a coffee snob. I had the drip coffee and I can say I think this was the best coffee in Texas. I had the sausage in the sweet roll (I don't remember the name and give me a break I'm from Arizona). It was so good. My husband had two breakfast tacos which he really enjoyed. The staff are so helpful and accommodating. The resturant is very cute. Lots of art all over the walls couches and tables. In the evening they have bands coming in and plating live music. Ring ring ring the Opening Bell! Well, isn't this place so darned perfect?! I love Opening Bell so much that I think it's part of the reason I'm dedicated to staying at the hotel across the street. Doesn't it seem like Starbucks is typically the only close option to most hotels? This is such a more idyllic option for that much-needed post workout coffee (it's located near the gym *and* the hotel. Pinch me, I'm dreaming). Besides convenience, the layout of the space is pretty damned darling. There's a large communal table and there's also a bunch of other tables/banquets that provide plenty of seating and the environment lends itself well to getting some work done for a couple of hours. Think: creative and cozy rather than sterile and minimalist. Besides convenience and great space, the espresso drinks are phenomenal. They have almond milk. They have food and pastries (more vegan options, please?) and beer and wine. And... and? It stays open late! Perfect, I tell you. Perfect. read more

Deep in the heart of the South Lamar Lofts, or rather underneath the building lies a hidden coffee shop oozing with flavor. Cozy couches and antique looking wooden tables litter the cement floor, while concrete pillars seem to be the only thing holding up the pipe-exposed ceiling. Shiner Bock, Coors Light, Fat Tire, Budweiser, and Heineken neon signs share space on the walls with a large poster of Jimi Hendrix, Townes Van Zandt and up and coming hopefuls who play here every Tuesday night. Almost every night you can catch talented musicians filling your ears with original acoustic jams, while an old school piano rests in a corner just begging to be played. Not only do "Best Singer Songwriter Series" take place on Monday nights with 3-5 different artists, but this cozy little basement hosts special events almost every night of the week. Open Mic nights are every Tuesday and can be heard on Pirate Radio from 7-10pm. You'll usually only hear original music as they look down on covers here. Amen, brother. You can even hear a set by Jenna Von Oy aka Six, Blossom's best friend on October 2nd. Whoa! The clientele is the chillest of chill, respectful of players, and just so damn nice. A $7 latte is not necessary. When I reached the counter I asked what they did that was special or unique from other coffee shops. Response: nothing. So I ordered a flavored latte, regular size, for $5.95. My friend who ordered the same but dared to request a different milk had to fork over $7+. Why?? That's crazy when you claim you don't do anything different or special. There are so many plusses: - they partner with a number of businesses in the area and serve locally prepared food, and it's actually good - lots of tables/space - choose from a church pew, chair, or comfy couch - friendly baristas - wine/beer/smoothies/tea for non coffee drinkers - free & reliable wifi It's relatively quiet in the afternoons if you need to get some work done. The music is soft and there aren't that many people, probably because of it's tucked away location. This coffee shop is tucked away below ground level of the large South Side Lamar building so you might pass it while driving or walking. Good thing that I noticed the neon lit signage outside on Belleview St. The place has an eclectic mix of tasteful furnishings, a projector screen and even a live music stage. Plenty of coffee concoctions and they also serve local beer & wine. Simple breakfast & sandwich menu. I had the Kolache & Black Eye drip...cause really needed to wake up :) Loved the relaxed spacious vibe of this place. The staff was also very friendly. Just wished I had more time cause I would've came back at night to hear the live music. This a must stop place if you're visiting this part of Dallas. read more

If you love coffee shops with live music, this is the one to go to. We were here on a Friday night and there were multiple bands playing. On this particular night, it was crowded and kid friendly. It was standing room only and it did take awhile for our drinks to come out. It is strange in that they serve alcohol here as well, I'm not complaining!
