Time for my check up
Marisela A.

It's been very difficult to get an eye appointment with this COVID-19. On Tuesday, September 22 I called in and was able to receive a appointment on a cancellation for Friday, 25 September at 11 AM. So you have to call in first to have access to office. I was greeted. I was to fill out paperwork which was very easy & self-explanatory of your needs. Mirna answered all my questions and also was able to tighten my current glasses that were loose for me. Place is clean and smells good. Aylin was very helpful when I was looking at the glasses on display. All the employees are polite. The gentleman who started my exam was polite and great. Doctor Johnson was great and loved the vibe. As I was done with my check up, Aylin was there to assist me on choosing my glasses. It was so hard to choose but I felt so comfortable with the awesome service Aylin provided. She made my decision so much easier and I am very happy with my decision of which glasses I wanted. This place was truly amazing and I would recommend to check them out. Yes u have to wait but that's normal everywhere you go.The employees are sanitizing after every customer.

Dr. Stephanie Johnson and her staff are top notch. She takes her time and does it all right. I was a walk in and she took me anyway. Her staff is super friendly. The selection of glasses is vast, from affordable to mildly pricey. They also carry sunglasses, including some pretty amazing Oakleys. (Obviously, that is the brand I like!) I have attached some photos. They have my particular brand of contacts, which I always have to order and wait two weeks. They had mine in one day and they were cheaper. Her staff was so warm and friendly. They actually talk to you and inquire about your day, and you can tell they really care. The environment is clean and very welcoming. They accept most insurance and their hours of operation are Mon-Thurs 8-6, Fri 8-5 and Sat 8-4. I would definitely check them out if I were you!

I should have found this concerning as all the other surgeons I have had to see because of him have told me every surgeon knows beforehand which surgery to do. He opted for LASIK, which after a quick procedure I was seeing very well. However, after a week or so I knew something was wrong as my vision got slightly cloudy, and at my one-month checkup I found out the surgery had failed, and I had developed an epithelial ingrowth which would need to be operated on right away. So, the first week of September of 2024 I went in for surgery #2, where Dr. Maurer opened my LASIK flap to clean out the ingrowth and then reseal my cornea with the flap. Right after the surgery I knew something was very wrong, as my vision was extremely blurry and I could not make shapes out very well. He explained to me it would just take a few days and things would get better. I went to all my follow ups explaining to him my vision was not getting better at all, and that I have eye pain as migraines from my poor vision. Well after almost two months of ignoring me he finally admitted that the surgery did not go well and that a fold had been created in my flap causing distorted vision and pain as well as another epithelial ingrowth. He explained I would need a third surgery to attempt to smooth out the flap and clean out the ingrowth once more. Halloween of 2024, I went in for surgery #3 where during the surgery Dr. Maurer explained to me that although he is cleaning out the ingrowth, the flap more than likely cannot be smoothed out, and without a further word he removed the entire flap from my cornea. Now he explained I would never have another ingrowth. What he did not tell me would be the complications that would come after having an entire layer of my cornea removed. Two days after my surgery I visited the emergency room due to extreme pain and discomfort in my eye, fearing that something had gone wrong and Dr. Maurer would not give me anything for the pain. A few days later I started noticing my vision worsening, with streetlights and other bright lights becoming smeared and the presence of double vision. He told me it would go away and there would be nothing to worry about. It did not go away, and I ended up having to see another doctor at the office since Dr. Maurer left. I was given over to the care of Dr. Little at the same office who ran test after test to find out what the issue was, including several different eye drops he tested out on me. He diagnosed me with an astigmatism that had formed during the healing of my third surgery. This went on for over a month before he eventually gave up and recommended me to see a different corneal specialist at another clinic. Upon my visit to the new specialist the first week of February 2025, I was quickly diagnosed with not just an astigmatism, but an irregular astigmatism and told that because an entire layer of my cornea was removed it may be too thin to operate on and she refused to do so and said there is nothing that can be done to correct my vision with surgery. She sent me to an optometrist who gave me glasses; however, glasses do not work for an irregular astigmatism. So, we tried out scleral contact lenses which my insurance did not cover and cost thousands of dollars. These too did not help my vision, only helping slightly with the double vision. I am still being told there is no technology today that can help me, and that I will eventually need a corneal transplant later in life as I am too young now to have one. I still must use steroid eye drops, eye pressure drops, and lubricating drops every day because of the surgeries I had. Because of everything I had to go through, I missed weeks of work from all the surgeries where I was not getting paid to miss work. I was left with trauma and emotional/mental pain and suffering that I still live with to this day. And I must face each day knowing that I will never be able to see with that eye like I could before. I have had to change my lifestyle, as I can no longer drive at night due to the damage from the irregular astigmatism and how it affects low light settings and how I see light. I also have had to retract job applications and stop hiring processes for jobs that have vision requirements as I can no longer have my vision corrected. I live in fear that I may lose my job and must go on some form of disability in my early 30's just to make ends meet. NVSION Eye centers has never reached out to me to discuss my situation with me or even apologize for what I must go through each day. While I recognize that the original surgery was elective, a

They have 2 offices on the same floor in the same building (both with signs that say "Wellish Abrams") and after checking in at the front desk we sat for an half hour but ten minutes past our appointment time someone called over from the other office and said I was in the wrong place and they had been searching all over for me assuming maybe I was stuck in the bathroom. It was quite a long time and lextensive process before we saw Dr Shah for about 3-5 minutes and he said I have a Vitreous Hemorrhage, it is very serious, and I need to see someone right away. I was referred to a retina specialist that was closed so I was told to call Desert Retina first thing the next day. The Wellish Abrams workers never faxed the referral with notes to Desert Retina so the operator at Desert Retina asked me to call Wellish Abrams and request they send the referral and notes. Wellish Abrams does not answer their phones, they employ an answering service which says they will try to get the request to Wellish Abrams within 24 hours. After 24 hours you must trust that the people who did not send the referral the first time will do it the next day. I do not understand why the process has to be such a circus, if you have an eye emergency why can't you go to one place and get all your medical needs accomplished? Southern Hills sent me to Wellish, which took 2 days, Wellish sent me to Desert Retina and didn't forward the referral and notes and meanwhile my eyeball is hemorrhaging. 3 doctors along the way stressed to me that my situation is an emergency and could result in blindness if not handled expeditiously.

The idiot on the phone clearly had no clue what she was doing because she continued to place me on hold to ask someone else my questions due to not having the answers. She then told me to reach out to my insurance and ask them my questions, which I did. My insurance then confirmed they have paid Wellish just 2 weeks ago and have continued to do so. Wellish office staff have no idea what they are doing and DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PATIENTS BELONGING TO THE CLINIC.

She asked for my insurance type and then told me it would be $90 for the medical exam and free for the vision test. After being put on the spot about shaming me that I didn't care about detecting the health of my eyes, I opted for the included visit. I waited 30 mins to be seen and was at this place for 2 HOURS!! It was visit a tech, sit in waiting room, visit tech, sit in waiting room, sit in dr office waiting, see doctor - which was a 2 hour endeavor (for not the medical procedure). Not a fan.

I brought my new prescription glasses here after having Dr. Esther Tan, OD examine my vision. This location is conveniently attached to the Optometry practice of Joseph Eng, OD, Esther Tan, OD, and Associates.    In the process of getting my new prescription glasses there were four separate visits. In the first visit, that followed my eye exam, Vision Center Manager Abir Husn assisted me with finding my new glasses. There were so many men's prescription glasses on the right side wall that it was difficult to find the right pair of glasses that I will be seeing the World through. At the same time, I was deciding on glasses that were within the confinement of my vision insurance. Abir Husn was resourceful. She took measurements to make sure that the new glasses would be comfortable. Abir Husn would mention the different add-ons  such as glare protection and blue-ray. She also asked me if I wanted to order progressive or bifocals. Saying "no" to both would be a mistake. When I purchased the prescription glasses, she let me know that they would arrive within 7 to 11 business days. Walmart sent me a message in a couple of days that they arrived.    The Walmart 60 day return policy would be a serious advantage. When I picked them up, I noticed that my new far-distance prescription had increased so significantly that it was blurry reading the Walmart shelf labels up close. Now, I knew why Abir Husn had asked me if I wanted bifocals or progressives. I had to return to the Vision Center. This time George helped me. He was very helpful. Being obvious that I needed bifocals or progressives, he explained to me how bifocals and progressives worked. He helped me find new glasses. With the 60 day return policy I would be able to subtract what was charged to my credit card toward the more expensive progressives. It seemed to be overpriced when he did the math. George told me that I could try them for a week then if I didn't get used to them that I could bring it back. This was a nice gesture because I was visiting my dad for a week.    Fast forward, a couple of weeks I returned to the Vision Center to return my glasses. It was getting old having to take them on to see distance then off to see close. Jennifer was extraordinary helpful. She answered my questions, helped me find the right pair of progressives, and explained the learning curve to getting used to them. She let me know that if anything went wrong with them in a year that Walmart would fix it. She got the math right from subtracting what I paid on the credit card towards the more expensive progressives. What was really remarkable customer service was allowing me to wear the existing glasses while the new ones arrived.   Within a few days Walmart sent the text message that the glasses arrived. And I was able to see future text messages without having to take my glasses off. I am satisfied with my new progressive glasses and the Walmart Vision Center at 6005 S. Eastern Avenue Las Vegas.

Mom mentioned that they never tested her eyes with her current prescription glasses on and that no other place has done that, and she believed they should have. When she finally saw the doctor, he mentioned that she had cataracts and required surgery. My Mom was pretty afraid and upset to hear this, and rather than being soothing and showing a little bedside manner, he was just very "Matter of Fact" with her, asking if she'd rather have the surgery or wake up blind one day. You cannot talk to all patients the same way. I could have taken that tone easily because I am very matter of fact as well, but it just upset my Mom even more who is more light hearted. He referred us to a center that treats cataracts but they did not take her insurance. When I called and left a message asking if he could refer her someplace else that does, he never returned my call. I don't think we will be back to this location.
