My new favorite restaurant on the island! Great atmosphere, great service amazing food!!

Came here on a Sunday evening after a long bike ride, so we definitely worked up an appetite. The restaurant was very cool feeling. When we walked in there was a gallery seating downstairs, up front. It felt like we were sitting in my mom's kitchen in the 90s. It was a very strange setup--the hostess explained that the owners originally expanded that space to be a gallery (with actual art) dining experience, but was on hold due to COVID. Makes sense...nonetheless, I wasn't a fan of the bright white room and glass front window. We were quickly moved upstairs where it was a little darker and cozier. We ordered the lobster pasta, oysters, kale Caesar, and house bread basket. All were good, nothing that stood out to me or WOWed me. The dessert was my fave. We got the Elvis and the madeleines--I could have eaten 50 of those little things! The stars are for the service, as it was impeccable. Great staff and very friendly. I will definitely be back due to the ambiance and great service. read more

We dined in August at this restaurant. We are on the Island every summer and we had not been back in a number of years. We were excited to return. The restaurant accommodated our request for our "regular" table by a window overlooking the harbor, so everything started off well. However, they then seated a family of four with two small children next to us. The ambience went from elegant and romantic to chaotic and daycare center within minutes. The kids started squirming, screaming, and throwing silverware on the floor. The dad managed to sweep a wine glass of the table which shattered next to my wife's feet, which were exposed because she was wearing sandals. To make matters worse, the parents began consuming copious amounts of alchohol, and they were soon plastered. At one point, the dad looked up at us and said, "I hope you have kids." We looked back at him and almost replied -- we do, and of course we we did not bring them. I know these things happen. But for a very expensive fine dining restaurant in a fancy resort , it would have made sense either to advise the parents not to bring little children or to seat the family in an area of the restaurant where they would not create such a huge disruption for us and others nearby. What made matters worse was that the staff of the restaurant did literally nothing. No one acknowledged the problem or offered to re-seat us. When I requested they provide a different table, they told us it would be a half hour wait while another party finished up. At no point did they offer us seats at the bar, or a complimentary cocktail, or dessert. It was just about the most tone-deaf thing I've ever seen in what should have been a high-end establishment. it's hard to imagine any restaurant on Island behaving in this way. Given the abundance of truly outstanding places in Nantucket, it will not be much of a sacrifice never going back to Oran Mor, we never will. It was totally graceless. (Two stars for the fact that this restaurant is a lovely venue and the food is at least good, though not great, relative to other options on island.) read more

Out of all the fabulous restaurants on Nantucket, this one was the most disappointing. The decor and service were outstanding, but the cuisine and presentation were lacking. Several other friends told us the same things about this place after our meal. As regulars to the island, we'll certainly skip Oran Mor next time. read more

Great restaurant in Nantucket! Very cool atmosphere - although be warned that the restaurant is on the second floor and access only seems to be via stairs. Food was great overall - oysters were prepared in a unique way that my girlfriend and I never had before, she wasn't a fan but I didn't mind them. In addition, the drinks were very inconsistent - some with more booze and some with much less. Our entrees though were spectacular. Great place to come to overall if looking for options. read more

Tonight Oran Mor earned back its 4th and 5th star back! We were extremely reluctant to go back to Oran Mor on this trip to Nantucket as our last meal was very lackluster (which you can see in my previous review). After looking at the menu and hearing from our hotel concierge that it is really is one of the best restaurants in Nantucket, we decided to give it another change and boy are we glad that we did!!! Our waitress was amazing! She had a way of describing the food that made you want to order it immediately. Her suggestions were on pointe. We had: - Coffee Cocktail - delicious - Roasted Oysters - so good and prepared in a manner very similar to escargot - Kale Caesar Salad - very good - Halibut - light and delicious - Long Island Peking Duck - terrific - Carrot Cake - very good with candied carrots on op - Pistachio Ice Cream - fresh and delicious This was a fantastic meal and we look forward to coming back again! read more

5 stars all around. Consistently excellent food, attentive service, and a comfortable yet refined ambiance. Oran Mor is a regular on my Nantucket rotation and for good cause. Last night's dinner was perfect - 3 of us split the wildflower salad, kale caesar with buttery/salty/oily marcona almonds (i don't even like kale), a half order of lobster cavatelli (I think it was cavatelli but I was a few martinis and glasses of wine deep), and homemade bucatini (my fav) with freshly shaved truffles . OMG. Everything was perfect, even the espresso martinis that were really uncalled for after dinner. I also love that they do half portions of most of the pasta dishes, so you can really go wild. I can't wait to go back! Truly a delight. read more

I reallllly wanted to give them a 4, but it truly was a 3.5 experience, and I always round down if I haven't been given enough reason to go up. My husband and I went to ACK for our 7 year anniversary. I booked a table at Oran Mor three weeks in advance and let them know it was a special occasion. I called the same day and tried to switch times, and the host was very accommodating. I literally called back five minutes later and retracted the switch (to give me ample shopping time) so they kept the original reservation time. I noted again the special occasion. When we arrived we walked upstairs and immediately dug the vibe. Until we were ushered to our seats. Not so special. Not only were we in a location with no ac/ air flow (super humid August day) but we were also seated next to a loud talking 24 year old and her boyfriend. I can tell you her entire weekend plans and how she feels about her Chardonnay. Kind of detracted from the romance. Our water girl was on point and refilled us three times even before the waitress came over. I will say that the bartender made my cosmo perfectly, the way I like it, with Cointreau and fresh lime juice. Also, Two of the three stars alone are for the fresh focaccia bread and "Monday Pretzels" they served. We got two orders thanks to a gracious waitress who noticed us dogging them up. The true reason we even went to this restaurant was for the truffle pasta dish. You'll see the restaurant's pro pic on Yelp. While tasty, I got about 1/8 of the truffle shavings that they show in their pro pic. Hubby got the short rib and loved it, but the portion was so tiny. Upon leaving and walking out the front door we saw this one tiny little raised two top table situated in the front window of the restaurant like a gallery painting. Two gentlemen were sat there. THEY must be special, even if our seven year anniversary on a Monday night wasn't enough to get us such an elite seat. Quaint, homey, interior but unremarkable food. I rarely bash a fine eating establishment but this place did not impress me, while every other meal on Nantucket already has. I ordered duck confit which was the evening special. Duck is a fatty bird and confit preparation literally stews it in duck fat, but it was surprisingly un-moist and not particularly flavorful in any way. It had been re-cooked to crispen the skin to the point where the skin had gotten hard, dry and bitter. There was a smear of a tangy sweet glaze around the perimeter of the plate but really nothing on the bird. Any additions to the duck were lost among the sides. Consistency was like well-drianed, water pack tuna, I will not call it dry. It was served with wild rice and a pickled sour slaw with pomegranate seeds. The sides were better than the bird but really not very special in any way. It had a large garnish to hide the small duck leg of which I only ate half. Bread service included small soft Hawaiian style rolls and overly-salty French bread.... or was it the butter that was over-salted? I'm not sure, and I really love salt. My partner had a lobster pasta dish which was rich in flavorful but did not make one think that it featured lobster as the primary ingredient. It didn't look like it, and it didn't taste like it. We had a chocolate peanut butter sweet confection over a banana cake. The cake was somewhat tough, dry and the nut sprinkles were burnt and bitter. Service was friendly and polite but a bit inattentive at the end where we made a point of placing the credit card on the table, mentioned it was there because we were ready to leave. This place is LOUD, truly unnervingly loud, sports-bar level shouting to the point you want to cover your ears, get your check ASAP and bolt. We go to bars , lounges, concerts etc. so I'm not shy to noise. I really wish I had kind of words because my girlfriend had gone to lengths to select a romantic place that featured duck. This isn't it. We probably won't come back. read more

You have to take this review with a grain of salt. Not every menu can please everyone. I struggled with finding something I would like. I would suggest making reservations for this restaurant. We were greeted, seated and decided on a cocktail. I went with the flaming Daisy. The spice was all in the cube and as it melted, you're drink got spicier. I believe they call it flaming because at the end of your drink, and the ice cube has melted, it feels like your mouth is on fire. My lips were a actually numb. I wish that I could better describe our meal, but I cannot find a current menu on line. We started with the oysters which were good. J ordered the chicken dish and I ordered the appetizer special for the evening. Chicken foie gras. J said his chicken was very good. He would get that again. My foie gras was a little bit of a different consistency than I was use to. Not as firm as I would have liked. Of course there was room for dessert. A type of s'more which was excellent. Would I go back here. Not really, there are too many other restaurants around. read more

My wife and I can't believe this year was the first time we dined at Oran Mor after coming to the island for 20 years. Our meal was terrific. They have a specialty margarita where the "heat lives in the ice" due to Fresno chilis. The duck melted in your mouth and the bison au Poivre was cooked perfectly. Our waiter, Nicholas, was very helpful in guiding us through the wine list and menu. The horseshoe bar inside is a great place to grab a drink. They have also outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. read more

Amazing! This was my favorite meal on the island. We started off with the oysters, which were the best I've ever had. So much flavor. For my meal I had the lobster pasta which was to die for. The pasta was cooked perfectly, there was just the right amount of sauce, and there was a really good amount of lobster. My husband had the fish special, which he liked, but he was wishing he also got the lobster pasta after he tried mine! Their wine menu is great, too - not as many choices as most places on Nantucket, but they had a good amount that were affordable, which is hard to find. I was a bit nervous about going here because even though the reviews are great, it seemed odd that we could get a last minute reservation. If you're like me and are thinking the same thing, don't worry about it and just get to Oran Mor as soon as possible! read more

FAILED TO HONOR RESERVATION We had a confirmed reservation for an outdoor table for a special occasion for over a month. When we arrived for dinner, we were told that they did not have an outdoor table available and it would be an hour wait. The staff at the front of the house admitted that they never read the reservation request. They texted me the day before to ask ME to confirm my reservation, but they did not take the care to do the same. We walked out. There are better restaurants on Nantucket where you don't have to put up with incompetence. read more

Another couple and myself and my husband ended our faux Christmas Stroll weekend (2020 there was no official stroll due to covid) with a lovely dinner at Oran Mor. I have been wanting to try Oran Mor for YEARS and always admired the diners in the window when walking by so I was thrilled to get a reservation here on a Sunday night. It also, coincidentally, was their last night open before their seasonal shut down which worked out in our favor as almost everything was half priced! I was pumped. We tried the roasted oysters bourguignon (what's not to love about butter and garlic) and foie gras to start (served with ritz, the ultimate cracker). For dinner my friend and I split two of their amazing pasta dishes which I highly recommend. Our significant others had traditional entrees (i.e. not pasta) and enjoyed their meals. Everything was fresh and really well done. Service was outstanding and overall, we had an excellent time. It was such a great place to end a festive weekend. We can't wait to come back! read more

My family went here for thanksgiving and it was great. Many places have the all you care to eat buffet (which is nice but not our thing) Oran Mor had a pre fix menu and it was perfect. The scallops and pasta was so good, we had stuffed lobster as our thanksgiving entree and it was fantastic. The food quality was superior and the service staff was very nice. Had an amazing meal here - pasta with black truffles was to die for! What a great experience...especially in Nantucket where most restaurants have a certain "vibe" Oran Mor made me feel like we were in a New York bistro with better and friendlier service. The dim lighting made for a romantic evening, along with fabulous red wine suggested by our server. This was a true gem of a find and a welcome addition to the ACK rotation. We started with a beef tartare appetizer with some delicious bread. By the time the mains came out we had a decent buzz going and I swear the scent of the truffles on my pasta took me straight to food heaven. You will not regret coming here for a great date night. We made a reservation here for an anniversary dinner. The restaurant is located in an old house with multiple levels of dining. It is a nice, eloquent environment with what appeared to be a generally older crowd (which we were fine with). We were excited about the food as we had heard great things, but unfortunately it was pretty hit or miss. Here is a run down of the food we ordered: bread and butter - this is amazing, must get Salad - pretty good, forgettable though Lobster pasta - we weren't crazy about this - the sauce wasn't super flavorful and not a lot of lobster Bolognese pasta - we enjoyed this - would def recommend Halibut - good but nothing special Ice cream dessert special - this looked cool as they lit it on fire, but the ice cream was so frozen you could barely eat it The service was great and we enjoyed our wine. Given the prices and other options on the island with better food, I would likely not go back. read more

My dear hubs and I have been coming to Oran Mor each year on our trip to the Island for at least 8 years-- we stumbled upon the outdoor patio table (shhhhh) and always request it. Last night was perhaps our best dinner there yet. Despite some blustery weather (we *were* sitting outside, after all--fortunately, a clever server snapped on some metal binder clips to keep the tablecloth from flying away), the service was flawless. To start, our waiter made some perfect suggestions for cocktails--I changed my order from a dirty martini to the Moratini at his recommendation and am a changed woman forever (and this is not due just to the strength of the gin). Then we had the agonizing decision about what to order. We had seen the jambon station, so we ordered that and LORT. It was buttery and melted in our drool filled mouths. It's like bacon went away to college on a full ride and came home to save the town and became the hero we all needed. Jambon will cure what ails you! To earn back some virtue, we also split the Peas and Wildflowers--this gives vegan a very good name (and I am very leery of vegans. As I am by the gluten free 'by choice' lifestyle). Crunchy, fresh with a touch of smoke from the baba ghanoush. Exquisite and beautifully plated. Oh, I should have mentioned that we asked the sommelier to pair wines and he was knowledgeable and spot on, but even more refreshing was how self effacing and sincere he was (especially since I got a little chatty after the Moratini). For entrees, my husband ordered the duck which I assume was delicious since he mostly purred between sips of 'the best cab' he's ever had and the perfectly cooked duck. I had the special--black bass over puréed ramps and cauliflower florets. Sweet Febreezus-- the textures and flavor combination was incredible. I was so glad the chef himself brought it out and I could see in the flesh the human who created such manna. We skipped dessert because I didn't want any other flavor after that. So, you might be thinking that we don't get out much-- and you'd be right. We have busy lives and jobs and don't eat like lords every night. But it is an extraordinary feeling to have a special dinner out on a very special island and leave completely satiated and as though it was all worth it. Thank you, Oran Mor! read more
