Oran Mor offers a warm, cozy ambiance with beautiful French-influenced cuisine. We were grateful to get a reservation after trying on several previous trips - they definitely book up in advance. Although the Restaurant Week menu was preset, it was a pleasant surprise to learn that both of the entrée options were included with our four course meal. The salad with heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella was a little under-seasoned. That being said, the sea scallops with pumpkin purée and the duck breast were each beyond reproach - the protein cooked to perfection and plated with perfectly complementary pairings. What really blew us away was the incredible charcuterie plate offered as the evening's appetizer. If charcuterie is on the menu at Oran Mor, just say yes. read more

This place exudes rustic beach elegance and I really love the beautiful gold semi circular bar. They also have a few tables by the windows where you look into a beautiful garden area. Love the low key vibe of this place! I am thinking this place is frequented by locals or people who live here in the summers rather than tourist. There are about four different rooms and one two top on a precious little balcony. My new fiance and I were eying the table and oddly enough, I looked over and the two were both texting on their phones. I almost fought them for the table! All of the food was so fresh. He enjoyed the Bartlet farms salad of mixed greens with a light vinaigrette and i had a great tomato chev, mint, balsamic salad. Since the majority of their entrees were meat dishes, they accommodated my needs and created an amazing quinoa dish with veggies. He actually ordered the scallops, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Apple Manhattans - woah! Probably the best made drink I have ever had. For dinner I had the herb roasted chicken ballotine - the chicken was cooked perfectly - nice and tender with tons of flavor. I took one star off of due to being out of two things I wanted based on checking out the menu online - the chocolate pot desert and the rib eye steak. So the atmosphere is quite quaint. We arrived at 5:30 and waited 5 mins for doors to open with a line outside. Glad we had reservations. We had a cake with us...my wedding cake. We eloped and they were kind enough to allow that. We had a great bottle of wine. And ordered the Special which was a 30 oz 40 day aged ribeye for two with mashed potatoes. I also ordered the sweet and sour red cabbage for a side and my husband ordered the spaetzle. First time they brought the steak it was almost raw. They never asked "how would you like it cooked?" We enjoyed the sides while they fixed the steak. They were 5 stars. Second try on the steak was another fail. I know ribeye has marbling but this was gross and for $100 I'm wanting a much better sample of ribeye. The mgr did Comp our entree and service was prompt and knowledgeable. read more

Where do I start?! Tonight we had one of the finest meals with the best service in the most charming atmosphere ever. The poached oysters were fabulous. Our five year old granddaughter loved them. The pea flower salad was to die for. The lobster pasta dish was out of this world. The Moroccan Fish Tagine was fabulous. Even the bread was especially good. Fantastic, fun meal. The restaurant has worked out all the old kinks, and we were pleasantly surprised by the new management. OM still maintains its old charms and interest, while undergoing some welcome updates. The cocktail program is solid, and the wine program has really come together. The food was excellent - unique and wonderful appetizers (gorgeous and creatively presented kale salad -- who knew?), delicious entrees including truffle bucatini, and beautiful desserts, of which we had far too many. We dined out every night for over a week on the island and without question, Oran Mor was absolutely head and shoulders above all the rest. Service was good, location convenient despite being upstairs. But the star of the show is the food!! We dined in a group of 6 and every single one of us was in the clean plate club. Not a crumb was left from any of the appetizer or entree dishes. I started off with a foie gras then had the bison special which was served Oscar style. Dessert was a chocolate dish served en flambé. I liked a kale Caesar salad; it had a good crunch from toasted focaccia crumbs and a nice lemon hit. I loved a fish tagine - nice Moroccan flavors, tender fish. This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. The cocktails are delightful and interesting, the wine and beer list beautifully curated, the service impeccable, and the food inspired and perfectly executed. We've never had a bad dish. Oran Mor's location does not attract attention, but it's always busy, which alone testifies to its staying power. A more consistent view among the tables would be nice, but if you get lucky the harbor is right there, and regardless of where you're seated the ambiance is serene. read more

I don't casually give out five stars but I suppose recently I've been really impressed with the places i've been eating. Oran Mor didn't miss a beat during the entire evening. We made reservations for 7:45 PM and were seated within five minutes or so after ordering wine from the bar. We were sat in a room away from the hustle and bustle of the bar and were able to enjoy the company with one another. The waiter was awesome. I mean he couldn't have been more perfect and made our evening extremely enjoyable. We ordered a bottle of wine, and appetizer to share and then two of the most delicious specials on their menu. While we skipped dessert, we will have to try the place when we come back to Nantucket in the fall. Can't wait - thanks for the great servies and memories! Take care & savor it up! read more

I went in to Oran Mor with very high expectations, and I found myself teased with good dishes, none of which reached the level I was waiting for. We decided to go for the tasting menu, which gave us a good perspective on the menu. Everything was executed expertly, although the menu portions needed some tweaking to flow better. We started with a single oyster over a radish salad which was light and refreshing. Next was a tuna tartare with a good sauce and chip both of which unfortunately overpowered the tuna. The lobster pasta dish was probably my favorite dish. Very well balanced, just the right portion for a tasting menu as well. The lobster and pasta were both fresh and perfectly cooked. The fluke dish was probably where I started to be a bit disappointed. The fluke itself was a lovely piece and nicely cooked, but the chowder was really strong for such a light fish. It was a bit heavy handed. The foie gras was delicious - I couldn't decide if I liked the sausage or pate more. Only complaints - waaaay too much foie gras (we were dying after that!) and the casing on the sausage didn't cut so I removed it. The lamb dish was disappointing. The sort of ratatouille that came with it just didn't really go at all. The ricotta gnocchi was the most disappointing component of the night - dense and awful really. The lamb itself was cooked nicely though. I was particularly saddened because the woman behind us said her duck dish was the best she'd ever eaten. After a long break to digest, we had a well-appointed cheese plate and a nice, if unmemorable, dessert. The service was good, although a bit awkward at times with multiple servers forgetting what they were serving us. Overall, I'd go to other places on Nantucket if I were going to splurge on a big dinner like that again. However, I think the majority of dishes would keep the general population happy if you're entertaining. I'd mostly just avoid that lamb. We found Le Languedoc to be a much better romantic splurge meal (as well as a better value). read more

This review is overly harsh. I readily admit that. The food was very good. The place is very charming. Overall the experience was a good one. But the presentation was awful. I ordered 3 dishes. All of them were sitting in piles of chunky sauce that looked like vomit. Particularly the striped bass. It comes on top of corn chowder and it looks like slop. Again, it tastes very good. It just looks terrible. Then the dessert comes. Some kind of banana bread pudding thing. Looks like a can of spam on top of a brown smear. Also tastes great. Just looks terrible. Service was great. I have met my dining soul mate. I knew we were a match made in food heaven after our weekend in Nantucket. We both had a few ideas of where to dine on our only night and after reviewing all the menus on line we decided to explore each on Sat. and find our perfect spot. We loved the menu at Lola 41 and ended up having cocktails there but I really wasn't in the mood for a heavy Asian menu. The plates passing looked amazing and we will go back in Sept. for sure. Queeqegs is adorable and such an amazing menu but Oran Mor won out and did WE luck out. My dining soul date to be called DSM from now on (grin) had originally reserved a table for 6:30. When we saw the weather was clear he called to inquire about a later seating outside. They obliged and seated us in a private patio table overlooking the lush herb and floral gardens. When we were guided outside I did a double take asking of this really was out table. It was pure romance. What made it absolutely charming was the private party on the rooftop at the neighboring whaling museum. The music wafting down towards our table was lovely, truly. Our waiter and bus boy were amazing from start to finish. The linens and place settings were lovely. We decided on a fish course for me and meat for my DSM. I chose the fluke and he chose the lamb. The bread was amazing..the chewy challah was sublime..the beer bread was great..and real salted butter...I loved that our bus boy kept replenishing our bread plates. He also was non obtrusive but there when we needed him...great skill for such a young man. He was from I think Kyrgyzstan?? Oh oh..my DSD had a lovely cocktail. I had a sip..wow ..it was a Vichyssoise Dirty Martini with Cold River Potato Vodka and Pickled Wild Leeks. How different..We chose entrees only. As mentioned I chose the Sautéed Nantucket Fluke (31.00) with Fennel, Smoked Mussels and a lovely light Lemon Sabayon. DSM had the Roasted Loin and Breast of Lamb (33.00) with an Organic Emmer and I think gnocci? with a Cucumber, Olive Tapenade. I don't eat meat but wow, it looked good. We both had amazing wine by the glass. I wish I wrote down the names. Our waiter chose well. He guided us throughout our meal and even made our dessert choice: mocha panne cotta and homemade beignets. It was sheer ambrosia... My wife and I dined at Oran Mor for the first time this Summer. We had heard great things going into the dinner but even those amazing comments were understatements. I had the foie gras trio including sausage, terrine, and seared. It was served with homemade toast. A great way to start off the meal. My wife started with a great salad. Next up was to duck which was cooked perfectly and served with a barley rice combination. The flavor perfectly complimented the duck without drowning the taste of the meat. My wife's fish was outstanding and I snuck more than my fair share of bites. Dessert can often be a letdown but not at Oran Mor. The dark chocolate brownie bread pudding was decadent but not overly sweet while the cherry clafoutis was piping hot, delicious, and perfectly complimented with ice cream. We came here for dinner last night and we were greeted by friendly hostess. The place is bigger than what it looks outside. Our server came over immediately and took our drinks order. We ordered 4 different appetizers to share and every single one of them was delicious. Our favorite was the foie gras. It was absolutely delicious. Our second favorite was the octopus. The octopus was tender and seasoned perfectly. For my main course, I ordered the duck and I have to say, it was one of the best duck dish that I ever have. The rest of my friends dinner was also great. We also ended up ordering desserts and they were equally as good. The best one was the chocolate bread pudding.
