I needed an ammo can and when I saw a bunch in the Yelp photos, I headed over to the circle. I wanted to browse the store so I started counter clockwise in the camping section. They have a bunch of gear at reasonable prices. Tents, cookware, sleeping bags, etc. I'm camping later this year, so I'll keep this place in mind. I moved onto the military gear since I needed that ammo can. They had the usual 30 cal & 50 cal cans, but then I saw an even bigger can! It was used for some sort of eye gear, but it becomes a great ammo can. You could fit about 2000 cartridges of 5.56 x 45mm in there! Totally worth it for $25. I'll come back soon to pick up another can. There's also a bunch of military clothing and tools. The counter by the register even sells ammunition and firearms. Glocks, Walthers, a bunch of 1911's, and long guns. The left side of the store focuses on more modern clothing items. Orange Army-Navy Store is clean and well organized. This is an army surplus store, where they sell of new and used military wear for very decent prices, in addition to other like-minded clothing. They also have camping gear and the like. I came here with my husband to get him a costume for a murder mystery dinner we had to go to, where he had to be a naval officer. We found the perfect stuff! They have a great selection, and the prices are right. I was eyeballing their sweet air force jackets....hmmmm. Please fire the girl that picks up the phone. My husband called because he's looking for a certain type pants in a certain size, so he asked if they had them in that size, and the girl tells him "well I don't know" ... working at retail you know your answer should be, I'm not sure let me check for you?!? ... but nope, my husband had to follow up and ask HER if she could go check. (We don't live close by and didn't want to drive there for nothing.) so in a b**chy way she was like yes and then comes back, with we don't have them with some more b**chy attitude. I was browsing around the gun counter for like 10 min waiting for one of the 3 guys that were like 3ft away on the computer laughing to acknowledge me cuz I had questions about there inventory but they saw me standing there for like 10 min and the got up and walked away without saying a word or even looking my way. I'll echo what most of the reviews have said. Great inventory. Subpar customer service. I'm not one to automatically play the race card but it was very apparent that they were helping out the Caucasian customers with much greater care, urgency and attention. Another Caucasian man and myself were interested in the same item and where the Caucasian man was extended a much more thorough degree of attention, I was sort of treated like he was doing me a favor. I can spend hours in here just checking out the old army surplus and random stuff that nobody living in Southern California really needs. But we all have at least a little "prepper" hidden inside of us, so it could be a good waste of time to walk around and window shop for awhile. They have definitely had an upgrade from the dingy nasty smelly Surplus stores that I remember going to in my childhood. This place literally rocks! Everything is clean! There is no "authentic" field dirt to show its previous usage on anything that I saw from backpacks to BDUs to misc surplus gear. I also love that there are not any WWII SS or Nazi emblems. No random battle flags hanging on every third rafter nor anyone that seems like they are a skinhead. Its run by regular folk who have a respect for their patrons and want to have a nice place. Pro Tip: Park in back they have a large free lot there. The front only has random street parking that is extremely limited. Overall they have just about everything you can imagine needing or wanting from a shop like this. Except for the aforementioned authentic field test dirt hehehe They also have new and non surplus goods here from boots to jeans to camping gear. He not only has great advice on what any well disaster-planned person should stock, but he heeds his own advice and can speak from personal experience. From the 5 or so minutes I spent talking with him, I feel comfortable enough to go back just to compare my emergency kit with Dave's. Why I visited: I thought I would jump onto the terror-stricken bandwagon and begin contemplating "the big one," as my California friends colloquially call the next devastating earthquake that is sure to come. I had enough sense to Google what I would need in case of a disaster, and then I Yelped Army surplus stores in the area. It never hurts to be prepared, and this store was a great choice. This place has a great location. The store is perfectly situated within crawling distance from the Circle. What better date than having dinner at Felix's, compiling disaster-management plans at the Orange Army-Navy Store, and getting ice cream at Watson after! Well, at least you know you could. The store itself is an interesting mix of stuff you could only find at an Army-Navy store and stuff that you would find at any sporting or outdoors store. Fortunately, the store is large enough to accommodate enough of both worlds to be interesting. You can get gear for your next casual camping trip, and pick up the 55-gallon drums and water treatment to keep your family disaster-ready. I highly recommend this place. I guess this was a case of misplaced expectations--I'm used to the Army surplus stores, that smell like metal and grease, full of mysterious hardware and the most rough-and-tumble resistant goods available. Army-Navy had some of that off to the side, but the focus on clothing (Women's floral tank tops? In a military store? Really?) threw me off. It's alright, just not what I hoped for. The mister went there for heavy-duty wool socks, the kind you can't find in prissy men's stores or even discount stores like Wal-Mart or Target anymore. We had some good luck and found the exact type he wanted, but when it came to check-out time we waited while the cashier and another worker finished their conversation, and then the mister still had to ask if this was the right counter because he just stood there. I have been shopping at Army-Navy for over 30 years. It's not all camping and military goods. They have always had some cute clothes for women and standard OC boy apparel. It's a great place to buy Uggs & Converse. And for a punk-y teenager, it was a great place to buy canvas bags to repurpose as cool purses, pea coats, flight jackets and assorted other wearables. As a mom, I brought my teenage girls in there & watched them pull many very cool wearable pieces fit for both alterna-kids and surfer-y beach-y girls. my grandson recently paid for a gun purchase and the store was unable to run a background this was on Friday he went back 5 days later and the store was unable to run the check so he asked for a refund so he could go to a store that could run a NCIS check as the system was working on Friday as I bought a gun at a different location that day and when he called another store the system was up so he wanted a refund to go to a store that was able to run a check they charged a restock fee around $150.00 for a gun that was in stock never left the store and was because the stores system was down not the NCIS system as stated to my grandson. if the store can not provide a service that was paid 100 % up front including the fee for the check and was unable to provide the service why should the customer pay for a service the store could not provide. He did go to another store in Calif. that did provide the service. it is not right that extra time would be added to the background because the store system was not working . read more

Great place to get all of your needs for the outdoors. Personally, I've purchased many dollars worth of pins for my hats and caps there. I'm a Korean war vet so I have a cap with a bunch of pins on it and I'm also an airplane nut and pilot so I have a hat that I wear to air shows that has a lot of pins. One side is for all of the planes I've piloted and the other is for all of the planes in which I've ridden. They have been very helpful at the store with special ordering some of the pins I wanted but they didn't have in stock. In fact, I'm heading over there tomorrow to pick up another pin for the planes I've piloted side...a TF-51 Mustang! Flying the Mustang was an 84th birthday present to myself. Talk about a kick...best plane I've ever flown. Would love to own one but the one I flew is worth about $4 million! As the saying goes...you have to be a millionaire to buy one and then you won't be a millionaire for very long! Old town Orange is a great place to spend a day...lots of stores full of collectibles, good restaurants and be sure to stop by the Army-Navy store and pick up a WW2 helmet or a canteen or something else interesting. read more

My dad was a WWII Veteran and Ive always wanted an Army shirt as a way to honor him. I came here to pick one up. Shortly after I entered and started to look, a guy immediately asked me if I needed help. He led me quickly to the correct rack. I found 2 shirts I liked and a hat as well. The next week, i had to come back to exchange the shirt sizes and return the hat. The same gentlemen kindly took the items and left them at the front so I could look for the right size.
