This family owned bike shop doesn't give me the warm & fuzzies like one would expect from a "family" owned business. It was not very welcoming, as I was not even acknowledged with a be right with you or head nod. It wasn't overly busy, and the employees still had time for some chatter. I got 3 heavy duty inner tubes installed on my stroller, a balance bike & a helmet. Upon check out, I learn that installation is $8 a tire $8x3.. I wasn't even informed there was an installation fee. I explain that I did not know there was a fee per tire, and he says you got charged $8 it's normally $10 you got a deal. I would've never agreed to installation charges, could've put those on ourselves. I'm super disappointed, and it's the owner who checked me out. I regret going forward with my purchase of bike & helmet. Would have loved to give my business to a shop who appreciates it. I will not be back. The One star is for Armando, he was helpful and his service was top notch. read more

Not sure why such bad reviews... I originally called on Monday about pricing and what they had in stock. Spoke with Zack who was helpful over the phone. Came in on Tuesday. Didn't really wait too long. He was helping a customer so it's only necessary to wait. I ended up purchasing a dolce elite in the color I am uber happy with along with a size that's perfect for my height (I'm a shorty). Keep in mind that I've called around and no one, except one place, had my size but not in the color I would have wanted and it would've been more expensive.... Came back today to get fitted. Zack again took his time and didn't rush me or brush me off in anyway. He even helped me with my bike rack on my car cause I was having issues putting it on. I did buy a bike and some accessories as I really needed one , but the staff (Big guy with the beard) was plain out ridiculously rude and arrogant. Should have read the reviews here on Yelp before I we t and I would have gone to another place. With COVID their business is booming so they don't care about their customers. Went to orange cycle during the pandemic to find a mountain bike for my son. They were so nice and knowledgeable. There wasn't a ton to pick from but they happened to have the exact bike my son wanted so that was exciting. While there I ended up leaving with one for my husband too. Now we're in May and I've been wanting to get an Ebike for myself so I can pull my daughter in a trailer and not worry about hills etc. again I stopped in here and found exactly what I was looking for. The gentleman took his time explaining what was different and would be best for what I needed it for. It was another great experience. Yes, there's a line to get in sometimes due to COVID. And, like another reviewer commented, these people have no sense of courtesy or common sense. Yea, they have the signs for social distancing. But when they are "trying" to assist you in looking at bikes, they are up in your face WITHOUT a mask! Really? Why even bother with having people wait in line outside then? I have to agree on being overpriced as well! Saw a guy buy two axle bolts. Old lady proceeded to tell him they are $2 EACH! Wow! Could buy those same bolts at a hardware store for .35 (yes, cents) each. Might have to search their specialty bolts, but they're available. And, yes, I work on bikes, so I know better. I wouldn't recommend or even go back to this shop as they are just taking advantage of the current environment we live in and price gouging their customers. I asked why their price was higher than what the manufacturer has listed. Old lady's response? "Our freight costs are more now and we have to pay overtime to have the bikes built." Really? I work in a supply chain and our orders may have been delayed a bit, but freight costs didn't change (at least for us) since our orders were placed 6 mos ago. Overtime? That is your cost of doing business. If you want to have built bikes displayed in your shop, that is the cost of doing so. I'm not paying for someones overtime for the shop to benefit. I'm new to bikes, and apparently that's a bad thing. One of the sales associates was being condescending because I didn't know what kind of bike I was looking for. He cut me off in the middle of a sentence to address another customer, and then he patronized me because I said I was looking for an "average, standard bike," saying that, "well that's kind of random. I went to Orange Cycle, in addition to a few other bike shops, to purchase a road bike. I probably spent a total of 5 hours there over the course of two days and could not be any happier with the experience. Al was up front, and while he may seem slightly gruff, he's an awesome guy. He spent a solid 15-20 minutes talking to me about bikes and different components while the other employee was looking for a few bikes I was interested in. He's super knowledgeable and helped me understand the difference between a few price points. I got the vibe that he's more focused on repairs than sales, but he was still willing to answer all of my questions. James was incredibly helpful in the process. He probably spent 2 hours with me 1 on 1 talking through the difference between a few bikes I was looking at, helping with the bike fit, and showing me all of the other things I might need. I didn't feel like he was trying to push me towards the more expensive options at all, and instead showed me where I could cut costs and where I may want to spend a little more. Like Al, he was knowledgeable about just about everything to do with bikes. The owner (I don't recall his name) was helpful as well. We didn't interact a ton but there was a slight issue with the price of something initially and he was really transparent and honest about the reason why and how they could be helpful. Overall, could not have had a better experience. I'll be bringing my bike back for maintenance in the future and will buy other things I may need from there (lights, helmet, etc.) I'll also refer anybody who is interested in a new bike. read more

They told me the bike I purchased was on sale for $699 (instead of $799) but $699 was actually the retail price of the bike, felt a bit sneaky as it was "marked down" on the tag. We also had to go back twice to fix the bike and trailer we bought before we could even use them. The trailer was missing parts and the bike brake was not installed correctly and was also missing parts. We spent WAY too much money here for all the issues we had AND customer service was terrible. Just bought 2 bikes and a bike rack. Couldn't be happier. My girlfriend hasnt had a bike since she was a kid so was nervous picking one out. They let her try them all out and spent time going over all the types of bikes. Once she picked one out they got it ready and installed a basket for our dogs. I grabbed a new bike for myself as well. They ordered a part for my bike after three weeks I had not heard from them so I called and they said oh yeah the part is here. I wondered why they did not call me. Then I asked if they could put the part on my bike that day. I was on hold for at least 40 minutes and no response. Finally I brought my bike in and they said they ordered the wrong part. When I told them about the situation above they said be lucky we took this part off another bike and made a special exception for you. I needed a couple of items, chain/cleaning supplies and gloves. My brand new bike got disgusting from riding it along the beach path on a dense foggy morning. The guy helping me out recommended a chain cleaner/lube and a bike wash. They worked great, got rid of all the sand, and bike looks like new again. Took off one star because of the internet/inventory management though. Reason I chose this particular shop was because they had some gloves I was looking for in stock. Turns out they did not and the guy said sometimes the system isn't right. Overall seemed a good shop and I'd be happy to go back. Just not because the website shows something in stock. read more

Went to orange cycle the other day. One of the employees was very rude to myself and my friend I came with. This employee did not care about making customers feel comfortable in the store especially for less experienced riders like my friend and made very condescending comments. DO NOT COME HERE if you are a beginner or less experienced cyclist, as you will not feel welcomed, and will be placed in a very intimidating environment where employees make you feel like you are not worth their time. Got a new specialized (roubaix) road bike from the shop. Joe was kind enough to help us out, and give us some feedback on what's important for getting started. He also took his time to make sure everything fit right, which for someone seeking riding comfort is crucial. This shop is a family owned business, and I've been getting my bikes here since I was born, so I couldn't recommend them enough! Seems to operating smoothly, seems that former manager to technical director Al has changed in terms of his attitude towards customers especially me. Orange Cycle has explained he had bipolar disorder which explained why he was a prick back in 2020, and he is out of his mind. Finally gotten some Shimano Brake Calipers for both front plus rear, and a 9-speed chain from kmc by the very same individual that was a prick back then. Well done Orange Cycle in respecting a former customer, however it will take two more visits to fully regain a customer, and so keep up the work. read more

Attitude and the inability to communicate a simple explanation on the first visit made me walk out. Dealing with the female owner who clearly knows little about bikes and parts made me regret my purchase from this store. Came in for specific bike, they had in stock on the floor. I added a basket and a bell. They did the additions within 30 mins. The were social distancing and everyone had masks on. The women who helped us was as sweet as could be and had wonderful customer service. I actually will be purchasing another bike from them I'm the next two weeks. Great service from a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Brought my bike in for a pending recall, as well as some other issues I was having. Al did an initial review, explained what he thought the issues were, but reserved final judgment until he took a closer look at the bike. Called me shortly thereafter with a full explanation of what needed to be done and told me my bike would be done the next day by 1pm. Fixed everything, as promised, and even did some extras. I had bought a Specialized Vado e-bike and was not totally satisfied with the performance on a very steep hill where I live in San Clemente. Orange Cycle sells junk! I spent about $450 on a beach cruiser style bike a bit over a year ago. I rode the bike less than 12 miles since I purchased it. 4 out of the 5 or 6 times I wanted to use the bike for a short spin around the Orange Circle or the park I have had to take it back to Orange Cycle because either the intertube cracked, or the brakes were not put on correctly from the last "repair." Today I watched them work as they put one a "new" intertube that popped as they inflated the tire. $56 and I know they installed junk today just like they did last time. it is not coincidence that this keeps happening they are selling junk at high prices. I am so tired of being nickel and dimed for crap that I told them they could keep the bike and I left. My advice: buy a good bike from somewhere else and have the time to repair it yourself OR buy a cheap bike from walmart; at least you will know you what you are buying. I was looking for an expensive Specialized MTB, went to all the Specialized shops in OC from the corporate stores to the independents -- treated well at most, but NONE was as friendly, relaxed and "family" feeling as Orange cycles. John the owner is super cool as is head mechanic Al -- these guys are the dynamic duo and really know their stuff, take time to answer any and all questions and just nice to chat with about bikes or John w hockey too. Bought my $$ bike there because "family is the most important thing" and they definitely give off that vibe, they care about happy customers and on a bike No Other shop would deal on at all, they gave me a little gravy and made me a "family and friends" type deal. They didn't have to as the bike I bought is super hot and in short supply, but they did it because this shop and owner (John) care more about long term loyalty and relationships than just money. The negative reviews here are laughable -- mostly folks looking for "free diagnosis", "free installations" (no bike or car dealer works that way!) and people with chips on their shoulders, quick to claim "victim" status. Interestingly to me, the vast majority of 1 STAR reviews are folks with only a few reviews to their "screen name" and usually a bunch of their other reviews are negative too -- bitter, victimhood folks -- I'm glad such people don't like Orange Cycle -- those types ruin the happy, relaxed and cheerful vibe this awesome family shop exudes. John and Al are awesome -- do yourself a favor, go straight to Orange Cycle meet some nice folks (the other staff seemed very pleasant too) and get a nice bike at a nice price! My high and heartfelt recommend -- so thankful such customer service oriented family bike shops (with the bonus of a HUGE selection of bikes) still exists. WORST and WEIRDEST customer service experience of my life from this shop!!!! *******I HIGHLY RECOMMEND STAYING AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! ********* Last night I dropped my bike off at this shop right before they closed. I spoke to the mechanic and explained, I would like to get a professional diagnosis of where my bike needs TLC. The guy was nice and we agreed I would pay labor costs for his time, and I would purchase all the parts through this store. The only caveat is I wanted to do the repairs myself, as I like to work on my bike. Next day... WHOLE different experience!!!! I get a voicemail from someone referring to himself as "Big Gay Al" (twice). ...Not sure what that's all about, but it was a total indication of the unprofessionalism and immaturity of the phone conversation I was about to have. The call goes as follows: Me: I'm returning a call about such and such bike. Al: Oh it's YOU. So let me get this straight.. You want US to go through your bike and give YOU a list of what needs to be fixed??? Me: Yes, I'd like to do the repairs myself, but I'm willing to pay for the.......(Al interrupts) Al: Whoa, Whoa Whoa!! How do you think this works??? Me: I know you need to make your money so I'm willing to pay for the.......(Al interrupts) Al: I have an idea. Me: ok? Al: Why don't you just come down and get your bike out of here! Me: ok, No probl.....(Al interrupts) Al: Just come get your bike!!!... .CLICK....hangs up on me... end of call. I'll let you be the judge of the type of the customer service I received. I don't normally leave reviews, especially bad ones, but I hope I save someone from getting the rude and strange treatment I experienced. The only slight positive in this story was, I expected the same hostility from him when I picked up the bike, but I guess his bravery only comes out over the phone. I've been there about five times, and I've experienced the "being ignored" and "being talked down to" that other reviewers describe, but as far as today, I'm still scratching my head over this.....
