I gave them one star because I could not give them less., I am disappointed that because they are the only quilt store in OC that customer service has left the building. Spending time with a customer is now a luxury and now all the employees feel that they can blow off people who ask for kindness and assistance. It was never this way when Leah's was there. They should turn over at the thought that their clientele would be treated this badly. Bad service!!! read more

OMG thankfully Leah's is gone and something so much better has taken it's place!! Everyone in Leah's was so goshdarn rude but the staff at Orange Quilt Bee is really friendly. I went to visit after I moved recently after I got a massage. I couldn't touch anything because I still had oil all over me but I was able to oogle just fine... I had a chatty conversation with one of the ladies there and promised to return later. I love the selection of 30's fabrics and I've been wanting to try their classes. Visited the store today. Good selection of fabrics, patterns, books, etc. Higher priced but seemed like good quality. Clean, lots of ideas, great class area. Unfortunately staff working today was not helpful, nor friendly, nor welcoming into the store. Asked 2 ladies for a specific kind of fabric but seemed too bothered to help me find what I was looking for or even suggest something a long the same line only different. Wanted to ask about classes and quilting but didn't feel comfortable asking based on the helpfulness of finding fabric. As I drove quite a way to visit their store, I don't think I will be returning. read more

When traveling, my daughter and I love to visit quilt shops. We had time before our flight and decided to visit Orange Quilt Bee. It was a wonderful shop. The staff was so friendly. They had a fabulous selection of fabric and patterns. I was even able to purchase some wool for appliqué. I liked how they had so many samples around the store to give you ideas. Visited this place a few days ago and loved it. Room was open and very organized. Loved the variety of material and ideas of what to make.

This little quilt shop is located inside a one story sprawling old style spread out mall and the entrance is on the side, not facing the street. The door is not well marked. They could do to improve that with an awning or a sidewalk sign to help you locate the entrance. Look for their signs along Katella as they are located on a corner of one of the buildings on the south side of the street. Once inside you'll notice about a third of the shop is reserved for classes. While I was there they had a class going on which was well attended and everyone seemed very motivated. It brought good energy to the shop. The rest of the shop features cotton fabrics for quilting, quilt patterns and notions. I didn't see much selection in the way of quilt threads now that I think about that. They have a long arm machine off to one corner of the shop, so maybe they let you rent it and do it yourself or you can pay them to quilt? I dunno. Again, not much in the way of signage. Regarding fabrics they have lots of "old fashioned" quilting cottons. I didn't see much here for a modern quilters though. Most of the cottons are more for traditional quilts or kids quilts. The staff are okay - lots of them in the shop so that was a bit overwhelming. We did buy some fabric as I want to support smaller businesses but I wasn't impressed with their staff. Their selection is okay and we were able to find some that worked. I'd prefer here than other big-box fabric shops or craft stores any day. read more

I will never waste my time in this store again. My girlfriend and I decided to drive to Orange to check out his store since almost all of the quilt shops in South County are now gone. We have always loved the Leah's in Mission Viejo and since this store was replacing the one in Orange we expected to have a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, that was not to be. The staff knew that we were there to BUY as we mentioned we had no shops near us. Everytime one of us would ask a question, they were too "busy" to answer our question which was amazing since we were the only ones in the store. When my girlfriend was able to get one of the women to stand still long enough to ask her question, she was rudely informed, "I will get back to you." The woman went off to talk to other staff members and never acknowledged us again. Considering how nice most quilters are, you would expect pleasant service at the store. Had they been busy, I could undertand they're being frazzled, but as we were the only 2 in the store, there was no excuse. read more

I am brand new to quilting, having only made one so far. I found out about OQB thru a google search and went into the store for the first time with the pattern I was intending to make. I was immediately greeted warmly and felt welcome by two employees. I quickly explained I was brand new to quilting and wanted to select fabrics for the pattern I had brought and inquired about someone assisting me in reading the pattern and selecting the fabrics. The lady who assisted me, Gretchen, could not have been more helpful and patient with me. She went above and beyond helping me to decipher the pattern and the way it was written to ensure I understood some very basic things, but never made me feel stupid. She then spent over 30 minutes helping me to select fabric combos that were appropriate for my project. She went thru each and every fabric requirement and showed me how she arrived at the yardage requirements for each of the 3 fabrics chosen and explained a bit about how to read the pattern. Needless to say, this was a GREAT first-time experience and I feel so good that I have found MY new quilt store!!!! I have lived in Orange for many years, but did not realize such a great treasure was right in my own backyard! Those ladies are not only truly experts in every facet of quilting, they are more than willing to share their knowledge and help their customers. OQB has many, many aisles of beautiful fabrics and displays!!!! Absolutely wonderful store with everything a quilter could want or need, including long arm quilting services. read more

I found this shop while looking for a specific item. I called to see if they carried what I was looking for, Valdani thread and they said they did. I drove over only to find they had about 30 spools of thread, an extremely small selection as this line goes. In all honesty, having so little in stock, they should have mentioned that they carry VERY little of it. The Pros: This store is very busy with quilters. They offer a wide variety of quilting class that are very affordable. Janet (one of the teachers) is very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgable. The class students are fun and friendly! Cons: Staff friendliness is hit and miss. I've been here twice, signed up for a class, and still am met with blank stares (from the middle aged women that work here) when I am shopping or even standing at the counter. (However, the younger workers have ALWAYS smiled and said hello and goodbye as people come in and leave. The older sales staff could learn from their much younger counterparts as well as the friendly teachers!) My take away: I will come here for the classes they offer, but nothing more. read more

My mom brought me here last autumn when I was making a quilt as a birthday present for a lovely lady that I know. As far as fabric stores go, the atmosphere was good enough and the selection was great. The staff was very friendly and even helped figure out how much of each fabric I needed for the quilt I was making. I don't do too much quilting/sewing, but if it happens again I'll be sure to come back here. read more

This is a well stocked shop that has the unique feature of having precut most of their selections with fat quarter cuts found just above each shelf. That is a format I hope to see other shops adopt as well. They offer a large very well equipped workshop area with well thought out electrical plugs at each station. I just took a class there with a nationally known teacher sponsored by our quilters guild. The shop allows guilds to use their space for classes. The classes that the shop offers appear to cover most beginners needs and should help them be successful. read more

This store and staff are absolutely lovely. If you are familiar with some of the other quilt shops in OC then you know that this place is head and shoulders above the others. It's my new fave! Fabric: Lots, grouped by color and theme. Plenty of choices, but not too overwhelming. Things for sewers who like traditional, funky, fun, vintage, etc. Thread and Notions: Everything you need and more. Atmosphere: Fun, welcoming, bright and cheery environment, man chairs with man magazines by the back (!) (my hubby likes fabric shopping with me so we don't need the man chairs but nice for the older gents who drive their gals around), natural lighting, all kinds of projects such as childrens' toys, etc., and books, cute displays. Staff: All were nice and helpful. A very smart woman gave me some ideas to blend some whites and cream prints together - an in between color! So thoughtful of her to show me that!! I bought five yards for my project!! It's just a good feeling to find a place where I feel good spending the little money I have to allocate to my quilting. I do not like handing over my hard earned cash to a sourpuss. I am going to check out their classes! read more

When I walked in I felt at home. I knew that I would be spending a lot of time in this store. Lots of yummy fabrics and the staff was so friendly and so knowledgeable. I took a class from Pebble one of the owners who was so patient and gracious to every single one of us. Taught me techniques I did not even know and the classroom had a lot of room. The time spent in a quilting shop is in my spare moments, and the money spent is discretionary. So the experience should provide value to me. This week I went on a rare afternoon when I didn't have to work, and I was looking forward to fabric selection for a new quilt. But the ladies working there were conversing among themselves at length and loudly, as if no one was shopping there, about their own family problems and about accidents with sharp rotary cutters and severed fingers. I realize that difficulties come up with demented mothers. And safety cannot be stressed, I suppose. But this is my time to have a bit of pleasure. I finally chose a few things and was glad to leave. M and L has good selection, better prices, and more professional staff. Check them out for a nice time shopping. read more

My mother took a quilt in to be finished on May 16, 2015. We were given a return date of June 16, 2015. I went in today June 29th and the quilt is still not done. They called the lady who was supposed to be working on. They let her know it was a gift and that we had a due date of June 16. She said she would get working on it tonight and we would have it by Friday, July 3. Unbelievable read more

My experience at this store is unfortunately marred by Janet, an instructor at the store. The store itself is nice and the people are friendly. Unfortunately, I can't give more stars because of the experience my mother has had with Janet. Janet is a bully, plain and simple. My mother decided to learn how to quilt. This is so out of her wheelhouse, that it took a lot for her to try it out. Sewing has not been her thing. Janet has on 3 or 4 occasions called her and made a big deal in front of the rest of the class for mistakes or doing something that wasn't quite right. Remember she doesn't sew. The only reason she stays and takes the crap from Janet is because she joined with a friend. I have personally experienced her bullying when I came to visit my mom. I live out of state and surprised her at the class. I was there for probably about two hours when Janet came in and berated me and my mother because I was there. Apparently, there are not suppose to be any people not registered in the class in the sewing area. I can understand this rule because I didn't pay for the class, but she acted as if I was stealing national defense secrets! I was only there to support my mom, not to sew or learn anything. Janet needs to get over herself. read more

They helped me from choosing what type of sewing machine to buy (they don't sell them) to picking out fabrics to cutting and piecing the quilt.
