I was so excited to be back at a buffet. Not just any buffet, a premium Sunday Brunch buffet! At $79/pp, I was really hoping to get AYCE lobster, without driving to the West side, but not today. Darn. There was snow crab legs. Not a bad thing, at all. These crab legs were moist and plumb and briny. So good! Plus, there were huge, succulent shrimp and fresh, plump oysters. My head is exploding! Then, there's the carving station. Roast turkey, prime rib, roast suckling pig (get the crispy skin, don't be shy!), and flank steak (teriyaki, I think). I got a little of each and none disappointed! There are hand rolls too. Salmon with ikura was my favorite. But there's no repeating any dish because you must try the poke and sashimi and, at least one piece maki! Try the ramen station too! Don't be afraid, it's a tiny serving which won't fill you up. Wink, wink. You can also order eggs benedict, waffles and pancakes, soup of the day and pastries. There are the standard omelet station and dessert area. So many sweet choices. Beautifully serene, elegant, and romantic, without any pretension or unnecessary formality. The divine dishes - from sides of truffle fries and broccolini to hamachi carpaccio and lobster bisque appetizers to risotto and seafood mains - were perfectly executed at a level of refinement rarely seen. Service is gracious and attentive, but unobtrusive and comfortable. Our party of five very opinionated diners considered this meal the best of our trip and a wonderful finale to the vacation. The view and decor of the place is the only nice thing that I can speak on. It was my birthday and we went for lunch. Our server wasn't very nice or accommodating until the end, when he dropped off the complimentary birthday cake slice and the check. Other than that, he made me feel as though I was dumb when asking him questions about the menu. He would not put in effort to tell me more about menu items or anything else. He did the bare minimum and it was not appreciated, especially on my birthday. The entree portions were to be expected for fine dining, but the appetizers were small. The food was lacking flavor but otherwise okay. I definitely would not recommend this place, as you're only paying for the view (if you get sat in the right place). read more

There is an elegance and refinement which truly sets this brunch apart from any other. The complimentary champagne; sweet snow crab; the fresh sashimi; the oysters, mussels, clams, and shrimp were so ono. I especially enjoyed the warm omelette made to order, the crispy lechon skin and shredded pork, the brisket, and the prime rib with vegetable accompaniment. Waiters assisted with our plates and kept the table uncluttered. The assortment of desserts were irresistible. Definitely a worthwhile experience overall. Next time will try the ramen station, eggs benedict, waffles, maki sushi, hand rolls, and ice cream as I was too full to take another bite. The talented pianist played a range of songs that added to the relaxed ambiance. The attention to detail from the superb service to food presentation and quality made this a memorable occasion with my daughter and son-in-law. Loved this restaurant! If you are in Waikiki and you want to go out for a fancy sit down dinner with an ocean view come to Orchids. Came here for dinner around 8pm and didn't need reservations. We were seated at a cloth covered candle lit table and served bread with butter, oil & vinegar, and olives. Food: We ordered the Hapu'upu'u, the grilled octopus, and a side of french fries (got to keep it classy). Both entrees were cooked to perfection, I would gladly order either one again. You could tell the fish was fresh and purchased that day. The Hapu'upu'u comes with an asparagus flan which is also delicious. The fries didn't really make sense at this style of restaurant but they were good, no skimping on the truffle and parmesan here. If you want you can have a multiple course meal served here the "Prix Fixe". Staff: Out of all the restaurants we went to on our vacation this place had the best staff! Covid era dine-in review It's weird having a "buffet" brunch when someone else is handling your plating but also kind of awesome to think that only one pair of hands has touched the serving utensils. At Orchids, they'll portion your plate however you want, you just need to be specific. You'll inevitably feel bossy asking for extra dark meat or more sauce or less onions but it's just how it goes these days. The staff here are universally gracious, patient, and kind though there will be more lines than you're used to. After you're seated, servers will hand you a card to explain that some items will need to be ordered from your table. Some of it makes sense and is cool that it's now made to order (eggs benedict, waffles) and some of it doesn't make sense at all (fresh fruit, white rice.) The dessert station feels less grand than it used to be and, again, you'll be telling them what you want - the guy in front of me told me that he felt embarrassed asking for so many different desserts. No shame, mister. Eat up! Still the same $79 a head that it cost before the pandemic. You're not likely to leave as stuffed as when you scooped your own food but really you're paying for the view, the attentive service, and the unhurried Orchids experience. read more

This gem of a restaurant has a wonderful Sunday brunch. We made our reservation about 2.5 months before. At first, I was like $105 per person? It was recommended, so I was like, let's go! This place did not disappoint! Food was delicious and fresh. Staff was very attentive. Fresh squeezed OJ, yes...please! Fresh ahi, swordfish, in my poke, yes! From the carving station (prime rib, ham, brisket) to having fresh ramen to having wonderful seafood medley. We will back the next time we visit Oahu! We arrived a few minutes early prior to our reservation, we waited in the lobby United our table was ready. As soon as we sat down we ordered from the lunch menu, the servers were very attentive and gave great suggestions. We could see the ocean from where we were sitting and had a nice breeze. We were looking forward to celebrating a birthday celebration at Orchid's due to the rave reviews and recently saw a review that showed the Sunday brunch had decent sized lobster tails. We booked a reservation on Open Table and noted that it was for a birthday celebration. Unfortunately as the day arrived it was set to thunderstorm that day, so the sun was not out and it was a little gloomy day. We were seated outside near the grass so that we had a beautiful view towards the grass and ocean. View would definitely be spectacular on a nice sunny day. But since it was overcast and rainy it was nice and cool and a little chilly. The table was set for 4 people and there were a few items listed on a card- fresh fruits, pastries/bread, soup of the day - mushroom soup, eggs benedict, waffles, and white rice that you need to request from the server. We were greeted nicely and ordered drinks and went off to the buffet. They did not have any lobsters and had snow crab, oysters, shrimp cocktail. We picked up our first plates and went to sit and eat, but since the table was set for 4 we had multiple plates and had to move the other 2 settings to the side so that we could make room. As we were eating the servers were cleaning off and resetting the table in front of us, by putting new linens down. When we were almost done with our first plate, one of the servers came and removed the 2 settings infront of us that we had moved out of the way and put them on the table in front of us. We were in complete shock that was done during COVID times and especially right in front of us. A few minutes later they seated a gentleman at that table in front. The snow crab was very hard to crack, especially the pinchers. After looking around that other people had a crab cracker and hand wipe rubbish flying on the floor, I asked our server for a crab cracker, hand wipes, and more iced tea (we were not offered drinks when our cups were empty for awhile). At first he said that he could only find one wipe, but brought another when he found more. When requesting for the soup of the day, we had to ask 2 different servers. Btw, the mushroom soup is really good and definitely recommend getting that, We think that was one of the most memorable of the brunch. When I got mango sorbet, they gave 1 scoop in a very large bowl that was dirty with other ice creams and the same scooper was used for ice cream and sorbet, so there was some ice cream with the mango sorbet (not the best idea for lactose intolerant or milk allergy people). They did take plates away pretty quickly which was nice because it is outdoors and birds come fast to the food area. Due to covid, all serving stations are behind a barrier and you request for the items that you want and the servers put it on plates for you to take. Make sure you request for everything that you want, such as sauces. If you don't request for it, you will not get it. Didn't realize that I forgot to ask for shoyu for the sushi or hoisin for the suckling pig till we got back to the table. Overall besides the seafood, they had a sushi bar, poke (poke was warm), salad bar, carving stations- suckling pig, prime rib (this was good!), turkey, omelette station, ramen station, and dessert station with ice cream/sorbet. The food was average or above, but didnt feel that it was worth $80 a person + tip. They also don't do anything special for birthdays, wasn't expecting much but a little decoration or something for the table would have been nice. Before it started to rain they brought down the shades so that the tables outside didn't get wet. As we were leaving, it was raining, Halekulani puts umbrellas out for you to use around the property and rugs so that you don't slip on the floor. My wife and I went here for breakfast every morning of our honeymoon stay (4 meals total). Yes, breakfast was included as part of our package so we were going here no matter what, but I can say with 100% honesty that even if it weren't included we would've loved to eat here. Everything about this place is TOP NOTCH! First of all, I can't say enough good things about the staff. We felt safe, welcome, and pretty much like VIPs every morning! They always sat us at a table with a great view of the ocean and/or diamondhead which just added to the ambience. The food? Absolutely delicious! Every morning we did the "complete" breakfast which included a choice of fruit, juice, coffee/tea, and one of the breakfast selections. When you combine all of those, you have a meal large enough to hold you over until late afternoon. And the quality was just amazing. Freshest fruit you could imagine, the juice (guava was my favorite) was like drinking a smoothie, and the breakfast dishes were very tasty. My personal favorite was the French toast which also came with a full serving of yogurt and granola, but my wife and I sampled 4 out of the 6 and you really can't go wrong! Arriving there, is easy and convenient. They provide valet service there and getting there is also easy. Located near the beach front of Waikiki, this restaurant caters to the tourists and locals. There's a dress code and need to make reservations. Once you get seated, depends where you seating, it's awesome. We were lucky to seat next to the beach front overlooking the majestic ocean. The food choices are excellent, lot to choose from... American food, Japanese food, seafood, crab legs, salads and other delicious foods. The desserts was delicious and appetizing... Came here for our last night in Oahu, and it was such a wonderful choice. We did two tasting menus with a mai tai and I was shocked at how full I felt after the menu! Definitely one of the first tasting menus where I've struggled to finish all the food. The pacing for all the courses was really well thought out and we had plenty of time to get more bread and drinks in between each course. My favorite was definitely the first course, the tartare with crème freche. The crème was so light and flavorful. The bread was so so good, plenty of refills and the butter was seasoned really well. All the remaining courses had really good usage of seafood, and my second favorite was definitely the steak. So so flavorful, juicy, cooked perfectly, and the mushrooms on the side were really tender yet crispy. The cake dessert was okay, I personally would've preferred ice cream. Overall, it was a really wonderful dinner; the ambience is beautiful and unfortunately we were seated next to an extremely noisy group of guests - once they left it was a lot quieter and relaxing in general. All of the service were really attentive, I was never without my cup brimming with water or without bread in our basket. They were also prompt in replacing our utensils in between courses. I haven't been here in years. Last time I was here, a waiter stomped a huge cockroach to death 3 feet from our table and left its carcass there the rest of our meal. That was 15 years ago. The food was always good here as I recall, but I gotta say, I was floored at the value this place has as a lunch restaurant in Waikiki. I think I've only been here for dinner. I don't know what the current dinner menu looks like but its probably far more expensive than lunch. This might just be the very best lunch restaurant in all of Waikiki going by a triple metric of value-food-service. Value: You get a starter AND an entree for $28-$38 depending on the entree. The portions are good sized. I saw the Crab-Lobster Croissant and that's what I'll get next time. It was double the size I thought it was. We got the Gnocchi Portofino and the Homemade Lasagnette. The later was smaller. If you're hungry don't get that. It had good flavor though. The starter was very nice. We both got the Endive Salad which was fresh and tasty. Next time, I'll try the soup. You need to take into account location into the value proposition. We were seated on the lanai closest to diamond head and the water. There's no guarantee you'll get a seat on the lanai, but coming for lunch you're probably more likely to get it. Seriously, you can spend this money at Cheesecake Factory, at the mall with a view of the bathroom line. Food: As described above the food is fabulous. The pastas are handmade, and everything is tasty and well presented. You get an assortment of bread to start with, and even a few olives and BOTH olive oil and butter. Service: Service is amazing. I ate at Hy's Steakhouse a few days ago, and this place put the service at Hy's to shame. And Hy's is more than triple the price. Absolutely flawless service. When I asked to recommend a dessert the server didn't hesitate. I can't stand it if they don't make a recommendation or say "everything is good". Water was refilled consistently well before it ever ran dry. A lot of local restaurants should send their wait staff to dine at this place to learn how to implement excellent service. Oh, and this was COMPLETELY unexpected. Dessert was comped for a birthday. Be cool guys. Don't take advantage of this. I was shocked though. A regular sized dessert was actually comped. From the moment I arrived at the Orchids, I was engulfed in an ambiance of tranquility that only a serene beachfront setting can offer. The gentle sound of waves crashing paired perfectly with the tantalizing aroma of breakfast wafting in the breeze. The haupia bread French toast was a revelation. Delicately crisp on the outside, and soft within, it was infused with the subtle sweetness of coconut from the haupia. Every bite transported me to a tropical paradise. Complementing this sweet delicacy was the savory loco moco. The flavors were robust and hearty, a delightful contrast to the French toast, making each mouthful a harmonious dance of taste sensations. Apologies for this late entry, but felt it's important... Orchids is one of the Best restaurants for lunch and especially dinner. From the food, drinks, service and ambiance, you can't beat it. Also, if you time your dinner reservation for the evening sunset, it's magical! Jeff took great care of us and the food from the salads, bisque, special Mediterranean entree menu selections and Halekulani specialty desserts were all excellent. And the prices are very reasonable for the first-class experience you receive. Even valet parking is complimentary (at least a $5 tip, please). We need to work Orchids into our dining rotation more often - while other pricey eateries are slipping, Orchids has maintained its dining and service standards. The food was mediocre compared to any fine dining restaurants in the Bay area. 3 dinner entrees, 3 drinks, a mid course, soup, and burrata salad came to $400 with tip. The lobster bisque was ok. The burrata salad was blah. The beef cheeks was not very flavorful. The filet mignon my son order was nothing special. The Hapu'up'u'/seabass was alright. And the short rib ravioli was forgettable. I had to remind our waiter 2 times to bring us bread. Bread came out after appetizer is a no no in my book. Aside from the mediocre food and the bread coming out late. Another great lunch at Orchid's at Halekulani! I love how relaxing it is at the restaurant. So relaxing.. I was falling asleep staring out at the ocean... lol. Anyways. We went for a lunch around 12pm on a Thursday - we noticed that the restaurant was surprisingly busy. It seems like a lot of business meetings, maybe? In any case, they still offer their 2-course lunch menu which I really like. They unfortunately didn't have any beef tartare as the appetizer so I had to get something else. I settled on the balsamic spinach salad with strawberries & herbed goat cheese. Kind of plain, but the herbed goat cheese had lots of flavor. For my main, I went with the Gnocchi Portofino, which came with shrimp morsels & a lovely tomato cream sauce. I'm not a huge fan of gnocchi, but this dish was perfect. The sauce was light & creamy, there were a lot of shrimp morsels too! Feeling quite full from lunch, we decided to skip dessert once again, but took out a slice of their famous coconut cake. Service was good like the last time - I noticed since the restaurant was busier, the staff looks more stressed & were running around more. I've heard about Orchids at the Halekulani but never had the opportunity to dine there. As part of our Halepuna stay, we were provided daily breakfast at the House without a Key and Orchids. One morning, we decided to have breakfast at Orchids. We were seated at a table at the outer edge of the lanai which provided a view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach and next to an open lawn area with House without a Key on the other side. We had an option of the American, Vegetarian and Ohana complete breakfasts and went with the traditional American selection. First was your choice or juice or coconut water and coffee or tea, which I opted for guava juice and coffee. Then came my breakfast plate of two eggs sunny side up, breakfast potatoes with a roasted tomato, a strip of bacon and two sausage links and a cherry cream pastry. The food was well prepared. The pastry was delicious. Service was friendly and accommodating. The sun shifted and was shining on us. We asked our waiter if he could lower the curtain, which he gladly did. I am glad this breakfast was included with our room, because I think the $44 cost of this breakfast is pricey for the food portion. Granted you get excellent service, view of Diamond Head and the ocean while eating your meal. read more

I was so amazed with the service and food selections. The sushi was fresh and delicious. I love the spicy tuna hand roll and poke. The fresh clams and raw shrimp. I was so amazed by the quality of the food and kept going for seconds. As part of the brunch we got champagne and it was great. The two stars are for the beauty of the restaurant mostly. Burrata was really good as was the lobster bisque. Everything else was a train wreck. My fish was so old it was mushy. I did not send it back which I now regret. The steak would have been great if it wasn't purple raw when ordered medium rare. I didn't need conversation as to what medium rare is. There are multiple stations set up and you just need to hand the staff your plate to be served. Highlights: Poki station (fresh, flavorful, and a variety of fish to choose from), Prime rib- tender and cooked to a medium rare which I like. Dessert station is the bomb and must try is that coconut cake with a scoop or two of the macadamia ice cream! Their juices are so refreshing and yummy! What else do they have ? Whole roasted suckling pork (but the skin was not crispy!), design your own omelette station, turkey, ham, roasted veggies, ramen, steamed fish with that yummy hot oil sauce, seafood station (shrimp/raw oysters/crab legs (which were super salty), sushi station, cold bar station (with various salads), AND you can order breakfast selections a La carte (included) with your waiter such as waffles and eggs Benedict (so creamy). Service: Was okay. Had to flag down to get refills on coffee and juice or take away some dirty plates. Bill came and my daughter was billed yet anyone under 5 was supposed to be free. Although the food is pricey b/c it's at Halekulani, the portions are reasonable and the taste of the food is fantastic. We went to Orchids at the Halekulani for a mother's day dinner and to experience the fine dining along with the scenery of Waikiki and Diamond Head. Since we had an early reservation, we were afforded the front row seats with direct view to the entertainment at the House Without a Key bar/restaurant. More on that later. Upon seating, there was no "happy mother's day" greeting" or at least a rose or something to celebrate the day. We were surprised that a restaurant of this caliber would fail to acknowledge this day. Anyway, for dinner, we ordered the Goat Cheese Salad, Lobster Bisque, Octopus Gallega, Hapuupuu, side order of Potato Gratin, and the famous Coconut Cake. Goat Cheese Salad - 3.5/5, it was okay tasting but the salad dressing was a little overpowering. Lobster Bisque - 5/5. Very smooth and light with bits of lobster. Definitely worth trying. Octopus Gallega - 3.5/5. Basically a grilled octopus leg but a bit salty for me. It was a large leg and very filling. Hapuupuu - 4/5. Two nice pan fried filets. The fish was buttery and delicate. I would order it again. Potato Gratin - 4/5. Basically a mash potato. Coconut Cake - 5/5. This was the star of the show with very light fluffy cake and delicate coconut cream. We also had a bottle of Trefethen which pushed up the total price of the meal. Service charge of 18% was automatically included so there's no need to double tip. (I normally give 20%). Service was top notch and the servers were on point all night. Now for the view. If you like sitting next to a playground, then this is the place for you. Directly in front of us was a nice big lawn where kids and tourist would be playing and taking pictures. It kind of killed the fine dining vibe and mood. There were a lot of screaming of kids, running around, and yelling of parents trying to keep them in order. The background Hawaiian music sort of drowned out the noise but again, it also added to the overall noise level. Tip: You may want to bring a light sweater if it is windy/breezy. The winds were gusty enough to bring a slight chill in the air, especially if you're seated on the outside rows. One of the most balanced menus I've eaten and the service is top notch!I love watching the sunset over dinner, nothing like amazing view, fantastic service and great food! Hubby and I had our anniversary here and wedding reception here. Both the times we dined here, the staff remembered our special occasion and always congratulated us. Let's gets straight to the food! Mai tai - I think the most balanced mai tai I've ever had, I can see why this is one of their signature dishes. By balance I mean it wasn't too light and wasn't overly sweet! Keahole Lobster Bisque - Excellent! So good that I finished every bite. Prime Tenderloin Filet - The Filet and the foige were amazing, cooked perfectly and delicious. Halekulani's Signature Coconut Cake - Light, fluffy and moist! Everything you could ask for in a dessert. Big Island Goat Cheese - Well balanced in flavor and texture, I rarely say this about the food I've eaten. Well except for this review. I love that the goat cheese came in larger amounts, so you could decide how much you wanted to add to your salad. Vine Ripened Kamuela Tomato Soup - The texture of the biscuit was perfect for the soup. I'm not a huge tomato person but I enjoyed the food. New York Strip - I'm going to say one of the best steaks I've eaten and the vegetables were well season. The Tropics - Not too sweet, the flavors paired perfectly. I couldn't stop eating this dish. Kona Coffee gelato - Each bite was rich with flavor but not overwhelming and the strawberries were the perfect complements. Service was top notch, they remembered it was our anniversary and remembered us when we came back a few days later. Stunning restaurant w understated floral and wood and open air environment. Went for lunch and it's comfortable yet elegant and special. Endive salad very good. Special grilled fish w asparagus was simple and I was in the mood for simple. But.now I'm realizing it was supposed to have more flavor bc of an olive sauce and I didn't get that. Too bad. Friend had curry and portion is huge. Friend had clams pasta and very few clams. The panna cotta dessert was light and delicious. A great pick. read more

Staying at the Halepuna, we decided to try Orchid for breakfast. I called and made reservations and was greeted by the hostess who asked for my name and room number. After showing our vaccinations cards we were lead to a nice outdoor table overlooking the beach and diamond head. We were kindly greeted by the waiter who quickly took our breakfast order. Within minutes breakfast was served. Food was delicious and the service was very attentive as you would expect for $100. We walked the property and encountered the most friendly staff possible. Can't wait to come back to stay at this property. read more
