We would like to ask more Ginger for shushi rolls, But she really turned away ! Just let's us waiting for the food!!! Took forever for orders of 1Soup,1salad,1 calamari steak and 2rolls. My friend and I parked on the street and took a stroll along the beach we ended at the pier and were hungry for something light and on the healthier side. This place had heat lamps outside and outdoor seating and a tv facing out to watch the game on. We looked at yelp and all the pics were old so we were skeptical but decided to stick to basics so that the food would be good. We were pleasantly surprised tho! We got two asahi beers in cold cups - pretty chill. I got the Nigo giro roll or something like that (fatty tuna) it was small for $11 but pretty good! Also, we got the tuna steak (there's two, we got the one that looked most fried) it was delicious!!! Perfect crisp and flavors. My friend got shrimp tempura roll which she ate all up and shishito peppers which werent too hot! Nice service and pleasant outdoor eating experience. We ordered the chocolate mocha shake, regular chocolate shake, funnel cake with strawberries, chocolate covered banana with peanuts, chocolate dipped ice cream cone and 3 churros.... -My sister in law really enjoyed her Mocha drink. She said she was worried it wouldn't have a coffee taste at all, but it did and it was great. -The funnel cake definitely fulfilled the craving my sister had for one. It was a little smaller than expected and had a flat appearance, instead of the fluffy look funnel cakes typically have. None of the flavors expected were missing though, so it's looks didn't matter. It was delicious and I'd still recommend it. -The chocolate covered banana was shared by my 2 toddlers. The inside of the banana was not brown at all, and you can tell it was dipped and frozen when it was at its freshest point. The banana also had the perfect amount of peanuts sprinkled on the chocolate. -We didn't want 3 churros, but we ordered them because they have a 3 for $6.50 deal. A little on the shorter side, but had plenty of sugar and cinnamon on them. The shop closer to the entrance of the pier has churros for $6, but I didn't mind paying 50 cents more because of all the other dessert options they have. -They use to have green tea option, like green tea ice cream, so it was a bit of a bummer to see they don't offer it anymore. -Other than all that, my sibling and I really enjoyed coming to get ice cream as kids, and now we all come together with our own kids. read more

Just ok. About half of the things we ordered were good, and about half were pretty bad. On the good list were the crab fried rice (though my kids didn't really like it), the Caesar salad (advertised as the best in Redondo or your money back), and the sushi (though the portion was small and expensive). My first time coming here. The experience was not GOOD! We had called to make reservations as they say it's required. We get there, the place is small not a problem with that. The place was not full at all. We still waited about 15 minutes to be seated. On top of this no one welcomed us, we had to get a young lady that was standing there attention, to let her know we had made a reservation. They sit you and forget about you. The servers do not speak English well, we had to show them the picture of the food we wanted. It took over an hour in half close to two hours just to get what we order. *Crab-crab rice- we got it at the end, right when we were ready to go. *Oriental fried chicken *Edamame *1-picture of beer *Hot Sake- which was not hot it was still cold. $60.00 was not worth it! We visited Redondo Beach on 4/10. We were hungry for something light and decided to stop by Oriental Breeze for our first time. We had outdoor seating. We felt very safe since they took preventive measure such as temperature checks, social distancing, and disinfecting the tables. We ordered Fried Calamari, Fried Oysters, the Dynamite, Spider Roll, Avocado eel roll, dragon rolls, tuna and snapper, and probably more that I forgot. The wait was a little bit long for each food item to come out, it kinda felt like we were eating a 5 course meal. The first item came out 25 minutes after we sat down, then the next item 15 mins, etc. To put it in perspective we got there at 7 expecting something quick but left at 9pm. It didn't bother us because my party was enjoying our day out and we were talking the whole time but for those expecting a fast and quick meal, beware. Otherwise, the service was amazing, the staff were super friendly, nice, and accommodating. Every food item we orders was amazing and well portioned tot he price. My bf and I came to oriental breeze after dinner last night to get some dessert and it was delicious! I really liked the ambiance inside of the restaurant - it was a bar/sushi place with a nice view of the pier. All the servers were really sweet japanese people. We ordered a crepe ($6) but it was huge! Perfect enough for two people to share. I wish I had a photo of it but I completely forgot to take one because it was just so good! We got a strawberry banana chocolate one. Yummm. Next time I will definitely be coming back to eat for dinner... and dessert! Side note: they're only open from 6 pm - 10 pm. This place is as legit as they come. Gardena and Torrance have tons of great japanese restaurants, but Redondo Beach is a little thin. Oriental breeze is the second best Japanese resto in beach cities behind Japonica. Yes, The redondo beach pier is a little shabby and touristy. I know many of you who eat legit Japanese food will probably never try this place because it is on the redondo beach peir, but I am telling you now that that is a mistake. If it had a larger beer list, it would be a GREAT izakaya as far as the food goes, but alas, they only care the 4 major japanese beers and dont carry the japanese microbrews. It might not be a Japonica or Musha, but its not bad eithre. the sushi they serve here is definitely on par with the rest of the south bay and easily as good as almost any sushi restaurant outside of LA and NYC. If you are used to mori sushi, sushi karen, and matsuhisa, then this is not your place for sushi, however, if you like good but not GREAT sushi, then this place will do just fine. I havent had anything that was bad here. Beef, chicken, oysters, salads, sushi, ramen, noodles, etc.v I know I know, it sounds too good to be true, but somehow they do everything well, just like Japonica! The origial place moved near Tony P's on the Wharf. Everyone who wants to go to the real Oriental Breeze should go to their new locatoin. Also, sometimes I do see mexican chefs. It is what it is. I see them in greek kitchens, italian kitchens etc (Yes, the good onces). I bet you 100 bucks there are mexicans working at places like Grace, Hatfields, and Mozza. Also, Oriental Breeze isnt really a sushi place. It has decent sushi, like Japonica, but it isnt a sushi place inherently. The only place for legit LA quality sushi in the South Bay was Kanzen. Some people will argue that konpachi is legit, but it really isnt. Oriental Breeze does have good "izakaya" food, specials, Ramen, etc. it is a mixed bag at Oriental Breeze, but it is largely good (if a little inconsistent at times). Also,I dont know who has been to Tokyo, but I for one, have been to Tokyo. I am so into the culture that I have an "I love Tokyo" track jacket with matching shoes. I listen to anime music like the huge geek that I am, and I own a bunch of anime and Japanese horror and drama movies. When I went to Japan I got Hiroshima style pizza, Tonkatsu ramen, REAL kobe beef, tender octpus shashimi, sea urchin, and other delacacies in Japan. I remember each meal as if I had it yesterday. I know this place is not like some of the fanstastic Michelin starred food in places like Kyoto. It cant even compete with LA's top tiered places. I give it glowing reviews because it is in my neighorhood, and considering the quality of food in the beach cities, and especially the pier, this place is a true gem in my opinion. Is the Fried Chicken as good as Furaibo? Is the sake list as good as Bar Hayama? is the sushi as fresh as Omakese at Nemushira, Asanebo, Sushi Zo, Shibucho, or dokoro ki ra la? Of course not. But when its on, many of its dishes are as good as the well respected Musha in my humble opinion, except the wait and the bill is smaller. One thing I will say, since the move, the sushi fell off a little, the Ramen got better, but the fried chicken got worse. I will have to go back again and see if it was an off night. One thing I should note about the sushi. When I raved abut the sushi, the sweet shrimp, squid, albacore with ponzue, japanese giant clam special, and sea urchin were all very good. I didnt order rolls, because when evaluating a place, I NEVER order rolls. These are the pieces of fish in which I use to judge a place. Some people who complained about this place should know this is IZAKAYA. Izakaya is a place to enjoy drinking and foods are the second. It's like a tapas bar/restaurant. So don't come if you are in hurry or if you wanna eat only lots of food without drinking. You drink and eat some dishes little by little and enjoy the conversation with your friends or family. I do not often write one star reviews - unfortunately this place deserves one. I really wanted to like this place, but definitely did not. It started with my husband and I going in later on a Saturday night. The whole area was pretty busy, and when we entered a waitress informed us that the only spot to sit was in the bar. We didn't have a reservation, so happily sat at the sushi bar. From then on everything went downhill. It took a while to order, a while to get drinks (just water) and a while to get our food (which we completely expected with how busy it was - not a big deal). We were never offered the opportunity to move to an actual table, even though three or four groups came in after we were at the bar and were seated immediately. Unfortunately, I also noticed that none of the sushi chefs were wearing gloves. Not sure if that's common practice, but it was distracting. They also had bowls and other containers stacked directly on the fish in the bar. But, I've seen how things can get in a restaurant on a busy night and thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. After our food was brought out no one came to check how it was or if we needed anything else. They came to clear our plates away five or ten minutes after we finished and didn't ask if we wanted the bill. We had to flag down a waitress fifteen minutes or more after finishing our food to ask for the bill. Our food itself was pretty good, but around three hours after we ate at the restaurant I started getting extreme stomach cramping and spent several hours during the night in the bathroom. Having eaten nothing else that evening, and feeling immediately better after throwing up everything that was in my stomach, I'm fairly sure it was the food from this restaurant. Oriental Breeze reminds me of the best casual restaurants I ate at when I was in Japan. The decor, the atmosphere, the friendly staff, and - most of all - the FOOD are the real deal! From the pickled appetizer to the sumptuous desserts, this is great Japanese food in a superb location. It's on the Redondo Beach pier, and offers great views of the Pacific - which is below you as you dine, and provides a stunning vista as you look west. The setting alone is worth the trip, but this prime real estate doesn't come with exorbitant prices. Oriental Breeze's menu is very reasonably priced, even a bargain by pier standards. The service is attentive and competent. They have Sapporo on tap. The sushi/sashimi (I had Eel, Uni, and Spicy Tuna) is ultra fresh, well-prepared, and aesthetically presented - Zen without being pretentious. They have great daily specials - including a sea bass in miso sauce that was superb. They have two styles of ramen on the menu (beef and veggie), in addition to some other offerings frequently included on their list of specials. It's even surprisingly kid friendly. My picky, generally less adventurous gai-gin daughters loved the experience. As did I. As will you. Can't wait to go back here. read more

Came for a Sunday dinner and yes, it's a wonderful place! The workers and the sushi chefs are all Japanese; not hybrid or wanna be Japanese, but real Japanese! They have a gorgeous view of the ocean, but during sunset, the sun is extremely hot and it was beating right on our faces, so we had to move. I suggest going here 10 mins before sunset, so you won't be uv'ed to death while eating. We tried a bunch of sushis, appetizers, spinach salad, cold ramens, and the miso bbqed butterfish (which was awesome!). Everything was tasty and the sushi was very fresh. The price is reasonable for the quality and the view. I think it's our new favorite place to have Japanese food. Parking can be a pain, especially on the weekends since it's right on the Redondo Beach pier. We drove around for 15 mins looking for a spot. I swear, where did these people come from?? read more

I tend to avoid establishments with the word oriental in it because the term is so archaic and borderline offensive. i am not a vase nor ugly rug. but damn.... this place rocks. 1. everyone there is legitimately japanese. EVERYONE. no korean headband wearing fakees behind the counters! 2. 3/4 of the patrons i saw at the restaurant were also japanese. when i walked in, two workers on separate occasions started talking to me in japanese, assuming i were too. that alone legitimizes a place. 3. menu had tons of variety and everything i had was super tasty. 4. beers are served in med, large, extra large sizes. how can you turn down an extra large beer? like all the other reviews, service could be better. they could be quicker, menu and service could be more organized. clean that up a bit and this place would be five stars easy. read more

Disclaimer: I am not a Sushi expert but I trust my taste buds. Point being that I cannot judge this place as someone who knows a lot about Japanese food/Sushi, it just wouldn't be fair. After a long walk from Torrance Beach, sushi rolls and iced green tea followed. For the simplicity, the rolls were fresh and delicious. We sat at the Sushi Bar near the entrance and were greeted by 3 very happy Sushi chefs and a sweet waitress ready to take our order. Grab a paper menu and mark your order! The Dragon Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Yellow Tail Roll were all light and appetizing. The service was great... the 3 chefs ended up finishing our meal with cheers-ing each other then chugging a beer mug. Guess they were having a great night too! So far, this is the best soft serve matcha green tea ice cream I've ever had in my life! I never get it swirled with vanilla ice cream or dipped in chocolate. Always plain match green tea ice cream. It has this perfect ice cream swirl and I love busting out my DSLR and taking pictures of this beauty. Damn it's so good!! It's not overly sweet like Starbucks green tea drinks. Came here with a couple of friends (one knew the owner) for the first time and really enjoyed it. It's a cute place right on the pier over the water. It feels like a typical sushi place (which is not a bad thing), and has huge open windows. While I generally like huge windows (and the ocean is right there), during sunset time the sun is BLASTING through the windows. Everyone facing the windows either had to duck around behind the booths or wear sunglasses which was really, really annoying. Otherwise, their food was really good. The sushi was delicious and the quality was good. They have DELICIOUS deserts. I have a big sweet tooth so this is a huge plus. Their parfait was full of ice cream (best!) and they have this honey toast that I could probably have eaten 5 of the amount that was given. It was delicious! I have eaten at over 100 different sushi places (I travel a lot). This is one of my absolute favorites. I love coming home to Redondo so I can eat here. The atmosphere is perfect for first dates or large get-togethers. The place has a cozy feel to it that people who like eating at quaint restaurants on a pier will love. The staff is fun and engaging. The food is excellent and the chefs will accommodate any desire. First roll I ever ordered there was a spicy tuna roll. I asked them if they could make it even hotter and they brought me a second roll on the house that was perfect! My family and I came here on a busy Sunday evening. Being a larger group of 8 they sat us almost immediately. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. Although their English was not great they were eager to make us happy. The food was excellent in taste and quality. Next time I'd like to go without the kids. It was very cozy, with high walls & pillows against the back. It made our table pretty private. I had the tofu agedashi & vegetarian roll- both pretty good.
