OMG! We would have walked right by it. We cannot stop talking about this place. We had uni shooters to start and loved it. It was the first time for my husband to eat uni and he didn't know it was uni. He loved it. The salmon skin salad was delicious. The uni chawan mushi was the best!!! WOW! I think we ate up their uni supply because we had to cut down one order of uni sushi because they ran out! The uni was so fresh. I love it when it's fresh. This place was recommended to us by a complete stranger whom we had dinner next to in of all places ... TOKYO! =) so random! The gentlemen was from the LA area and had told us that this place was similar to the restaurant we were eating at in Tokyo so we decided to give it a try. This restaurant is located at the end of the redondo pier, which makes for a very nice location for a date or romantic stroll =) The restaurant is not anything extravagant, but each table seems to be very exclusive and private. This restaurant must be authentic because most of the patrons were speaking japanese. The food was surprisingly good! We had a hamachi kama that was probably the best we've had, other great dishes including a cold ramen noodle that comes with a dipping sauce. Everything was really good throughout the meal and we were excited to end it with a great piece of uni ... but unfortunately the uni was not so fresh, probably the worst uni we've ever had. I've never had a bad piece of uni until that night. It was a little bit of a damper on what would have been a great meal! Regardless, everything else was good. Found this place after a review in the Easy Reader (local paper). Cozy but with good service and a nice view of the water/pier. The food here is excellent. The Sea Bass was some of the best I've ever had. Tempura Udon was very good. Rainbow rolls were excellent. The california rolls were pretty good. I get the feeling that this place is awesome at authentic Japanese food but don't order the non-authentic stuff. The deserts are really good too because they also own/run the adjacent store. I enjoy the white tiger roll, I call it the "Biff Roll" because I knew this albino kid when I was younger and he told me that his real parents were white tigers and his human parents found him in the jungle while in the Peace Corp...oh Biff. This is a great japanese place to come to when you want a small cozy setting. Its a little bit on the pricey side but worth it because the food tastes really good. The best things here are the iced coffee, california rolls and the Teriyaki Chicken. The teriyaki chicken has the best teriyaki sauce that I've ever tried! The food is fresh and the service is great. Definitely come here for a quiet place to take your date, be prepared to spend a little bit more but get good japanese food! One tip if i remember correctly credit cards are accepted only over $20, be sure to ask first though it might have changed? read more

I like this place. I have not eaten their sushi so I do not know if they are good, but I can tell you other stuff is pretty good. Squid in foil with guts is very yummy. The juice is very tasty and smells really good. Pi-tan (I do not know how to spell it in English. It is kind of an egg. Duck?) is very good and looks very cute So far, I have never seen it served in the US except for this place. I had more small dishes and they were all good. Ramen is pretty good. I love it when I can find a mom/pop shop, hidden gem, hole in the wall type place and this suits that description in every way. While everyone is flocking to that gelato place a few buildings down, there's this cute little Japanese stand that sells green tea soft serve. It's an extension of a restaurant on the pier, so actually, I'm yelping about the little side stand next to the restaurant. Not only is staff nice and adorable, it was only $2.80 (something like that) for green tea soft serve on a cone. I'm not sure if they sell it in a cup, I didn't see that option. A new staff member was working there and he was practicing and they made him redo mine until it was a perfect swirl. If I happen to be back on that pier, yes, I would definitely come back for another! read more

Kind of a strange contrast on the pier, as it is located next to a walk up food stand where you can also get sushi (as well as cup of noodles, elephant ears, and ice cream--random!). Service was very good. The waitress brought out tea in the end of the meal without us asking, which was a nice touch. The standout food-wise was the sea bass special with a citrus sauce. Delicious. The spicy tuna roll was good as well. My sole disappointment was the tuna tataki appetizer. It was entirely lacking in flavor. It was by accident that we ate here and we didn't really expect much from a restaurant on the pier. I would have gladly given this establishment more stars except for one glaring detail I could not overlook... they serve shark's fin. Came here based on the high reviews this place got and it did not dissapoint. I got a mix of sashimi and sushi rolls, all of which were great. There is a long bar type area in front of the sushi chefs and that is where I sat. I asked a few questions during my stay and they were all very nice and answered them. Yes, there was a mexican looking dude prepping the sushi, but he knew way more Japanese than I did. I tried some Shochu, they had a pretty good selection. Shochu seemed to be all the rage when I visited Tokyo a few months back, and I never tried the sweet potatoe variety, so that is what I tried here. I figured any restaraunt on a pier would be a tourist trap, but this place transcends that. Highly recommended. Thanks Yelp! read more

Came here with the DINE50 pass and tried the Tan Tan Mien, along with a dynamite sushi and a roll. This place is situated on the Redondo Beach Pier and it's absolutely gorgeous at sunset. Perfect view of the ocean and the lovely pier walkway. Really great place to take your date or friends. The food was reasonably priced, and delicious too. They also sell funnel cakes like the other pier vendors, which is a plus! Parking is in the structure, and it's $1.50 per hour, prepaid at a machine. read more

The really can't be bothered! Interesting story for a place with only 5 tables working. We first went to Oriental Breeze on the Redondo Beach Pier and the guy greeted us with "We are really busy if you wanna get anything to eat it's gonna be a while". Loving the pier we said Ok he turned around a walked towards the dining room. We waited at the door. When he returned a good 10 minutes later he seated us by the servers station with the ice and bus trays. Noticing that there were a good 10 tables empty we took the hint and said no thank you! Betsy said we have to follow our intuitions, glad we did that's how we found Flyin Fin this place is on point, the sushi is prepared so creative as shown in my pictures but the service is great as well. Ok, let's get this out of the way: Oriental Breeze is not a fast-food joint. You can tell because it doesn't have a giant yellow 'M' outside. If you go to OB expecting some mozzarella sticks and other crap "pier food" whipped out in seconds, go to f'in Hot-Dog-On-A-Stick. I bet they'll crank out your food for you in less than two minutes, you can stuff it down your face, and you'll still be on time for Twilight Saga VII: The Merchandising. What you will find: A very unusual location tucked up against a soft serve/funnel cake stand. Flawless sushi (I have eaten raw seafood all over the east and west coast) that is always consistently fresh and perfectly prepared. Tons of asian patrons (in my opinion a great sign for good food without the ridiculous LA-sushi pretension) always having a great time. Always a good mix of couples having a nice evening (sometimes that's me) and groups getting their Sapporo-swerve on (been there too!). The outside may look a bit strange, but the inside is homey, comfortable, and not at all elitist-snobby like many LA sush-eris. The servers are often willing to have a drink with you, and the owner is almost always on hand to ensure an incredible experience. I love: -Their shochu-by-the-bottle system where you drink as much as you want (make your own mixes if you want!) and only get charged the amount missing from the bottle. -Their flawless, inexpensive sushi. Try the delicious dragon roll for an awesome dish with awesome presentation! I have paid twice as much for sushi that is not even half as fresh. -Their underrated (by most sushi-goers) Ramen noodles. This stuff is the REAL DEAL! Not what they sell at Albertson's for $0.20, but a delicious homemade meal in a bowl. My wife loves the Tan Tan Men Noodle. -Having a well-paced meal (sorry, you will not be in and out in 15 minutes...unless maybe you demand that sort of service from the minute you sit down!) at OB with great company and a lively atmosphere. The idea is to take your time and enjoy the experience, not pack it in and pile it down! -The unique specials on the board--oyster shooters...yup! -Having shochu drinks while watching the waves hit the pier below, and not spending a billion dollars for the ambiance or waiting a year in line. Seriously, expect to take some time at Oriental Breeze, and if you're in a hurry, be sure to tell them right off the bat. They're not trying to torture you, they're just trying to serve a meal at the pace 90% of their patrons enjoy. Clearly this includes me! read more

A go to place for a date The funny thing is that the same people run the stand actually so you can get sushi at a window along with corn dogs and mozzarella sticks and the like. I love getting sushi for 8 or 4 bucks at the pier with a churro and hot cocoa, it's like pier food plus starbucks and sushi. An epic combo, but the stand can have a line and they aren't the fastest place at the pier, even the window. Perhaps a little faster at the window part would help. Inside that slowness is appreciated, they first start you off with pickled appetizers, tuna in vinegar and some cabbage, very nice. Then you have your sushi, fresh fish and the rolls are delicious, I had a dragon roll that tasted impeccable and my friends roll was also good. The board is where the specials are and those are good, I had the mackeral last and it was amazing fish perhaps some of the best sushi I had in awhile. Redondo Beach has been surprising my lately with good sushi places and I love the decor it's quiet and intimate with a nice view without being too pretentious. It's a very nice location with friendly chefs and staff that serves delicious sushi next to a place where you can get corn dogs and churros, two different entities but it works. On a nice evening when there are less tourists at the window the restaurant shines as a nice place to drink some wine/beer or shochu/sake and relax with some quality rolls and fresh fish. And after reading some of you praising the quality of the ramen I shall have to try that next, if it's as authentic as the sushi and what we're all saying then truly we have a winner here read more

A co worker and I were looking for some good sushi in the area and read the reviews here on yelp and seeing this place had a decet rating we decided to check it out. First off the place wasn't busy yet our food took forever. Ordered the sunomo salad (which had hardley any cucumber in it) and the spring rolls both which sounded beter then they tasted. The beef terriyaki was delicious however we were very disapointed with the sushi. The shirmp tempura roll is served with a curry sauce. The mixture was terrible. I'm not sure if perhaps it was an of night for this place but neither the food or the service were worth the time it took to get our food and get out. I was really disappointed the last time I came with a couple of friends a few months ago around April. I would always come at least once a month but I will never return after this experience. The food was good but the service was horrible! The waiter came with our check and immediately said it was a 10% tip. That was okay... We brushed it off. She leaves and we were still trying to finish our food... The waiter comes again and tells us to leave a tip and that this was not a fast food place!? Are you serious? I am a true sushi connoisseur and Oriental Breeze is at the top of the list. The have an amazing view off the end of the pier in Redondo Beach, the quality, preparation and flavor are superb! There is always a consistent crowd of the asian community which in my book is always a good sign.
