1/2 size crab. We paid about $45?
    Sarah Y.

It's a small, unassuming spot on Redondo Beach Pier that appears to be very popular among locals. We visited on 12/23/22 evening-the Friday before Christmas Eve and day and thankfully, had made a reservation prior. I made the reservation the Wednesday before and the only time slot they were able to give us for dinner time was 7pm. When we arrived about 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time, they were still kind enough to seat us, though they stated that they wouldn't be able to take our orders for food until our reservation time which was more than fair. They were still able to take our drink orders though There were numerous space heaters throughout the restaurant which I appreciated. It's small, but clean and bustling We got the crab (1/2 size as it was only two of us), sausage, and numerous other dishes. Everything was great! I liked the crab and felt like the portion relative to the value wasn't bad at all. It's still crab and it's still market price so don't expect a cheap deal, but for what it was, I couldn't complain. Sausage and crispy tuna was amazing. Steak was good. Everything was good. The only thing that was slightly disappointing and lackluster was the nigiri sushi and the yellow tail rolls. The rice was very bland and the sushi tasted similar to Ralph's sushi. Not necessarily bad, but we were hoping for better considering the fact that we were dining in and paying more. Service was hospitable and warm and they checked in on us just enough. I would come back .)

One of My favorite restaurants in LA. The whole crab is a must-try !! If you're a seafood lover, highly recommend this place!

I read a a review about this restaurant awhile ago and it's been on my to-do list ever since. Finally made our way to the Redondo Pier (much nicer than I remember) and stopped in for dinner. We scored a window table (arrive early before they are filled) with a great view and ordered a combination of sushi and sashimi. We've been eating sushi/sashimi for 30+ years so we're hard graders. In a nutshell, this place met all of our expectations. Fresh food, thoughtfully prepared with attentive service. OB has moved off my to-do list and onto my short list of go-to South Bay sushi restaurants.

moments before dissaster ‍‍‍ u can see the nasty chunky icecream

Nasty old food!!!!! i came here 7/14/23 in the night with my friend. we stopped to get soft serve icecream which was supper expensive for that lil ass cone. Anyways we got it, i vanilla and her chocolate. when i got mines it looked odd, chunky almost. i took a bite and to my suprise it tasted like old sour milk!!!!!!! This is unacceptable service, i expect more from a buissness that has been up for so long. This icecream made me have the worst stomach ache in my life!!!!!!! no kidding, i threw up all my food when i got home. On me y'all need to fix that up before i get food services on u guys. Super disappointed ‍ i need my 9 dollars back (manager message me) fosters freeze is better smh ‍

Lobster Spring Rolls with a delicious sweet sauce!

My friend and I ate here and had fries, Dodger dogs, gyoza, shrimp fried rice, lobster spring rolls and teriyaki Buffalo wings. Everything was sooooo good! We sat outside in front of a tv that was playing the Dodger game! That was awesome that they were playing it! They also had an outdoor heater for us and they did not mind that I had my teacup Yorkie on my lap. Their large drafts of Sapporo were $6 which was a great price!!! Great service from out waitress, too!!! I will definitely go back to this place in the future!!!

I love how this sushi place is on the pier. I frequent this place normally at night. The staff is friendly. Sushi tastes great. It can be quite hot during the summer, but you are on the beach, so summer nights are the best. Sushi tastes fresh. My favorites are the Yellowtail and green onion roll, the Dynamite & the Oyster Shooter. These are definitely my ultra favorites. I normally order: Fatty Tuna, yellowtail, inari, salmon, albacore, California roll, and sweet shrimp sushi. They have a large selection of sake and Japanese beer. I normally order the large sake. The price is not too bad, but it'll be worth the money. The Redondo Beach Pier has a big parking area, but we mainly take Uber to this establishment. They have about 2 -3 Sushi chefs on site, so there is never a long wait after you place your order. We normally sit at the sushi bar and try to come during non-peak hours (weekday nights)

    Tempura

Went to Oriental Breeze Sunday night. The food was delicious. So much flavor. Prices were very reasonable considering it's on the pier. Ordered the tempura and shrimp fried rice. Was so good. I can't wait to go back and have dinner there again. You can sit inside or eat outside. Take a pick. Try it for yourself and check it out.

    Green tea swirl!

Exterior = 5/5 This is located out on the pier, so you would need to park on the street or in the parking structure to get here. It's a stall that you can identify with their ice cream cone they hang outside off their roof. You know when you see it, you are getting close to something yummy. Interior = 3/5 There is no interior, it's a stall between restaurants. There are some tables you can sit at, directly next to the location. If those are full, you can find seating in the form of benches and tables further out on the pier. Service = 5/5 Service is quick, they are able to get what you want fast - pretty straight and too the point. I usually go at night for a nice stroll along the pier and have no issues getting my order. Order = 5/5 Green tea swirl in a cone: 5/5 This is my favorite treat along the pier and it might be one of my favorite green tea soft serves, especially for the price and quantity that they give. The vanilla and green tea go well together. One flavor doesn't overpower the other, if anything the vanilla makes the green tea a bit sweeter and lighter. The green tea itself isn't too strong and is refreshing. The cone is a cake cone but shaped like a waffle cone (if that makes sense). I find that the tip of the cone tends to be prone to leaking after some time, so bring some napkins along and be ready to manage all drips! Overall = 4/5 Location is great for a nice walk whether alone or with company. Price isn't killer and the quality is great. It's one of those simple joys kind of thing where it just makes sense. Hint = get the swirl. Not the solo flavors...the swirl. Make sure to grab napkins too in case your cone leaks. Also for a date, grab some cones and head further down the pier to watch the sunset.

Matcha Green Tea & Vanilla ice cream cone
    Jackie C.

The matcha green tea/vanilla swirl ice cream is very delicious here! The cone is just alright, but the soft serve ice cream is pretty good! The ice cream is $3. This place also has food, drinks and other desserts. Some drinks that they have are coffees, teas and sodas. Matcha green tea and vanilla are the only ice cream soft serve flavors that they have. Oriental Breeze is a little take-out place on the Redondo Beach Pier. It is kind of hard to find, so just walk around until you see it. It is near other food places and little shops. There is parking in the structure (but you have to pay) and there are also parking meters near by. I would recommend this place to other people if they are getting the soft serve ice cream.

What a terrible experience! I attempted to have dinner here last night with my BF and a friend. We arrived a little bit before 8pm. We stood outside waiting to be seated for about 10 minutes. We kept peeking inside and it was not busy, there were plenty of tables, but we were told to wait. Finally seated a little after 8. The booth was comfy, but my side had a shit load of electrical plugs in a power strip jutting out into my hip. Safe! We ordered right away. A bottle of wine, a beer, an iced tea, a california roll, mozzarella sticks, some mussels & scallops, grilled chicken & popcorn shrimp. The drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time, but they put lots of ice in the wine, which I did not enjoy. The food took forever! We had to be somewhere at 9, so we kind of started freaking out when we had already been there 30 minutes and they hadn't brought us any of our food. Meanwhile we saw other people being served, finishing their meals, and leaving. My friend commented to the waitress that we were in a hurry and we needed to leave soon, the waitress just walked away. Finally around 8:30 they brought out the cali roll and the mozzarella sticks, and both were nasty. At 8:45 we asked where our food was, and told them we had to be somewhere in 15 minutes. They told us they hadn't started cooking our food yet, but they would start right now. We told them to cancel the whole thing and bring us the bill. Bill came, they didn't comp us for anything or even seem to care that they didn't serve us. As we were walking out some guy came up to me and said sorry. Little too late!

Definitely go for the nabe, and if you're here with several friends and family, the family course/set meal (which is what we got for 4 adults) is perfectly enough food for everyone. The drinks and food as well as the setting of the restaurant gives ultra chill vibes - one of the better izakayas I've been to re drinks and food variety and quality. They have some premium wines here too, including Opus One and Kenzo. What would have made this a top notch experience would be once of those semi-private booths with the lower seating that some places have, but this felt like some places we've been to in Japan as well. The only thing I didn't love was that I spent around $400 here (LOL), but we all had a great time so that was fine. Food-wise, we tried the following - Gobo Chips - a friend recommended these to us. He said eating these when drinking will prevent hangovers, headaches, any negative effects, etc. I thought it was cap, but all that beer and sake, I felt great the rest of the evening and morning despite just a few hours of sleep. Large serving of these chips, nicely seasoned, thin sliced, great texture. Even my daughter enjoyed these. Uni & US Wagyu Beef Sashimi - how decadent! Very flavorful. A bit too much sauce for me, but otherwise good. Salmon Truffle Carpaccio - this was one of my fave small plates. Fresh sashimi with ikura. YUM!! Chicken & Green Onion Skewers - Pretty good chicken. My daughter even ate the onions without realizing. Amazing. Chicken Karaage - the daughter's favorite! Goes very well with the beer too. Assorted Tempura - nice assortment of shrimp and veggies, with the tempura dipping sauce. Ribeye Ponzu Steak - beautifully cooked and flavorful. We started with the above, and the food came at various times, but the waits weren't long so we appreciated that. We were still hungry, so we ordered some more stuff - Premium Sashimi - min of 2 orders so we did that. It was good, but I expected a lot more for premium sashimi. It looked more of a single portion, but beautifully presented. Chazuke - we got some for us all - both salmon and mentaiko. Best dish to end a meal at an izakaya. Warm dashi with the riceball in there, seaweed, topped with either the salmon or mentaiko. Subtle flavors, but really delicious. We then looked at a dessert menu and decided to go elsewhere for some sweets. Would def come back to try their pressed sushi, and if we weren't all picky eaters, we'd try their set meal as well.

Unfortunately, the food told a very different story. We ordered a wide variety of yakitori since the glowing reviews repeatedly highlighted it as the restaurant's specialty. Instead, what arrived was surprisingly inconsistent. Nearly every skewer had a heavily charred exterior that crossed the line from smoky to bitter. Good yakitori should showcase careful grilling that enhances the ingredients, not mask them with burnt flavors. The proteins themselves didn't taste particularly fresh, and the seasoning was all over the place. Some skewers were so lightly seasoned they tasted unfinished, while others were aggressively salty. Consistency is one of the fundamentals of good yakitori and it was noticeably lacking here. Having visited plenty of izakayas and eaten more than my fair share of yakitori, I'm not claiming Michelin-level expectations. I simply know the difference between properly grilled, well-balanced skewers and ones that miss the mark. Based on this visit, the food was below average and failed to live up to the hype. With the volume of positive reviews, I expected a memorable yakitori experience. Instead, I left wondering if I had visited the same restaurant everyone else was raving about.

The grill master mostly stared through the room, which made the whole place feel more awkward than welcoming. As for the food, some skewers were good, but others were noticeably over salted. For something as simple and focused as yakitori, the execution has to be tighter than that. There are plenty of yakitori spots around. If the food were exceptional, maybe the uncomfortable room and flat service would be easier to forgive. But right now, the flavors aren't strong enough to make the experience worth repeating.

I would recommend checking their current menu before going so you know what to expect. Maybe we'll come back another time to try their lunch menu and explore more of what they offer.

Parking: you can either park on the street, if there is parking; or park in the lot where h can enter from the back of the restaurant. Get there before 5 to grab a seat because the place fills up QUICK. Inside is small and narrow. If you're not a big eater, share a dish. Their portions are HUGE!! Biggest plates I've seen for a Japanese restaurant. The servers there work hard and try to be quick as possible. I would definitely come back here.

With so many options, it was honestly a little overwhelming to choose. I decided to keep things simple and ordered the sashimi and broiled mackerel fish set, which came with rice, miso soup, cabbage salad, and macaroni salad. My husband couldn't settle on just one dish, so he went all out with a chicken oyakodon, grilled salmon, steamed eggplant, and a stir-fried chicken and bean sprout dish. The restaurant itself is narrow and deep, which actually reminded me of some of the small alleyway restaurants we visited during our travels in Japan. It added to the cozy and authentic feel. The service was attentive, especially when we requested a few extra items. One thing that really stood out was their ponzu sauce. It seemed to include green onions and perhaps a touch of vinegar, and it was absolutely delicious. It paired perfectly with the sashimi, steamed eggplant, and even the chicken dishes. Next time, I'm definitely going to spend some time studying the menu beforehand. The portions were generous enough that we had leftovers for another meal, and we were lucky enough to find parking right in front of the restaurant.
