Clean place with friendly service and late hours. Had the family dinner for two and an order of Rangoons. The Mongolian beefs was really good. Chicken teriyaki and sweet/sour pork was average. The Rangoons were better than average and the egg rolls were excellent. The bbq pork and prawns were meh. Fried rice was average. Good spot for Chinese but it's a bit of a hunt to figure out what they do well. Definitely would go back for what we liked.

Loved both sauces on theses two dishes; shrimp vegetable & general tso chicken. I usually go for the kung pao but I wanted something different.

Ordered from this place many times and found the food to be consistently good and on some occasions great! You get a good quantity of food for the amount you're paying so ordering here is well worth the money. I typically order the sesame chicken with Mongolian beef combo. I haven't sat and ate in the dining area before but I have been there on a karaoke night and enjoyed hanging out in the bar section. The lead lady working there was friendly and served up some hot food right at the bar! I've only had one minor issue with the this restaurant- I attempted to place an order over the phone but was immediately placed on hold where I waited about 20 minutes before calling the restaurant again on a separate phone were we once again sat on hold for 10 minutes. At the end of all the waiting we decided with just ordering online and of course the food was tasty.

Mongolian beef is excellent, chicken dishes are good. 1st time when i paid $7.95 for fried rice i got an extra little box full, second time was just in the main dish box, not worth it.

Haven't found my go-to Chinese spot yet, as this one was meh. They're severely understaffed, as we waited for our pickup order 40 minutes longer than the expected time. Not a dealbreaker though because covid hit many businesses just a note if you're in a rush. The good: generous portions, the soups were very hearty if you prefer less broth, and the food was hot. My husband liked the hot and sour soup for the flavor. The egg rolls were our favorite item. The not so good: dry chicken on the orange chicken entree, wonton soup that was over zealous, the pineapple in the orange chicken tasted off. The soups had too much junk in it though and I wanted more soupy soup if that makes sense. Ended up picking at the leftovers but ultimately throwing it away because the chicken was too tough.

Service was good. Food was fresh and the portions are very big. I had leftovers for days. The soup was delicious and the general Tso chicken was great.

New restaurant. This is now my go-to place for Chinese in East Anchorage. Food was fresh, good, and the service was friendly.

I take issue with any business that isn't upfront with pricing. The staff at the desk are very nice. They don't sell food or drinks, so i had food delivered. They don't even offer any plates or napkins, so you definitely need to make sure you don't forget anything. They were helpful and made sure I was notified when my order arrived. The karaoke rooms are nice, each one is a little different. They have disco lights and tvs at either end. My biggest issue is the selection of music is EXTREMELY limited for English speakers. The songbook is 90% KPOP, and since you are your own DJ, you waste a lot of time navigating the Songbox and book which primary language is Korean. I love KPop, but I definitely can't sing or read it. (I WISH!) We had fun though. I'm surprised more people don't know about this place, but I imagine that word of mouth in our very close knit Korean community is their primary customer base. I recommend this place based on how nice they were and that they let you bring whatever food or drink you like. This is an ideal place for a small Bachelorette party or other such event where you want total control.

I booked a small room for my nieces' 20th birthday party and we had a BLAST! They have three different size rooms available, but all come with tables and seating and the ambiance is so fun! Disco lights, loud speaker system and our small room had two tvs, one on each wall. As it is a space rental, you are booking the space, the ambiance, and of course the electronic system, but they allowed us to decorate and order food and drinks to be delivered and consumed within the room. The electronic system is Korean, which can be daunting at first, but I was told it was superior to English-based systems and once we got the general directions down (which also had guides that explained the instructions) it was no problem to select and search for songs. There was also a fun scoring feature which our singers loved! Also if you had an obscure song that might not be available, you could also connect via Bluetooth for audio! Owners were incredibly accommodating and super informative when calling to book a reservation. I would recommend letting them know what you are celebrating and group size so they could recommend the room size. They also were very flexible when we asked to extend our time, and understanding of a last minute cancellation due to an illness for a second booking I made. I would HIGHLY recommend this location for all types of groups. I will definitely be a returning customer and look to book them for all kinds of groups and celebrations!

TOTS!!! Great food and a dive bar feeling, but it's clean! Love this place and love the tater tots!…read moreI mean, who doesn't???

This has been because of the amazing bar and entertainment staff - great drinks, great service, fun and friendly. The trivia and karaoke were the best I have seen in Anchorage, with a charismatic host and fun atmosphere. These days are, apparently, gone. I have visited twice in the last month, and both were some of the worst bar experiences I have ever had (and I've had some baaaad experiences in my life!). I'm not sure what happened to the staff that worked hard to make the Blue Fox a welcome, classic dive with chill and solid vibes, but whatever the mess is that's in place now is....something else. None of the serving staff seemed to know how to do...well...anything. On one visit, I ordered draft beer - pretty basic. After first returning to ask me for a reminder on what drink I ordered, they still brought me the wrong pour, and after what seemed like an excessive amount of time. I was going to order food, but someone at the table next to me leaned over (unsolicited) and told me I'd be better off skipping it. His actual words were "Don't. Save yourself". Yikes. On my other visit, I ordered an old fashioned. Whatever it was that they brought me, it wasn't anything even close, and it was undrinkable. I sent it back, and never saw a server again. On both visits, noone seemed to know how to use the computer system to get me a bill. I will also note that it was very empty there on both occasions. There is nothing I can think of or that I saw to justify or speak to the combination of slow service and level of bumbling chaos that happened. The place was dead. Not sure where the great entertainment guy went - he wasn't there on either visit, and it looked like no fun was being had by anyone. Something changed, folks. I don't know what, but hear me when I say that VIBES ARE OFF big time. In the words of the fella at the table next to me that night: Don't. Save yourself.

I'm glad I went to check it out, but outside of going there for a show I don't see myself going back. Seriously gave me college bar/frat house basement party vibes. Considering I went to a Big 10 school in the middle of Illinois I'm very well versed in that type of establishment/vibe. It's not exactly the kind of place I want to go to as a 30 something year old. I went there for a burlesque show. Shout out to Pulse Dance Company! The show was amazing and tons of fun. The bar itself I don't think has had any updates since like maybe 1995, and that estimate is probably generous. This bar was probably the place to be when it first opened, but now it's kind of just tired and sad. It could probably be better if they took the time & money to renovate it, but they don't really have an incentive since people go there regardless. Koot's kind of just exists, but considering Anchorage is the biggest metropolitan area Alaska has it's a confusing type of establishment to find here. If you're looking to party though it seems to be the spot!

"True Dive Bar Vibes in Anchorage"…read more October 2023 - Van's Dive Bar really puts the dive in dive bar -- and I mean that in the best (and sometimes worst) way possible. It's small, dark, and a little sketchy, with writing covering nearly every wall and a tiny stage where local bands play -- some decent, some not so much. The drinks are very reasonably priced, and the service is friendly and quick, which goes a long way here. You'll find regulars who clearly know each other, and the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a true neighborhood watering hole. If you're looking for something polished or upscale, this isn't it. But if you want a no-frills local spot in Anchorage with cheap drinks, good service, and a ton of character, Van's Dive Bar is absolutely your place.

Trivia: What brass instrument is unique due to its slide feature?…read more The parking might be the first thing that stumps you. If you don't park in the front, you might wonder, like I did, whether the side of the building is an okay place to park. Then you'll wonder if you should park sideways, angles, or straight on. By then you'll be to the back of the place and down a short hill and trying to figure out where to park or where to turn around. You may even decide to just leave. But don't. Vans is a cozy spot. Due to the hum of the ice machine, and the friendly conversations, you'll not be able to hear any of the street noise so close to the entrance. Five beers on tap, and probably 30-40 cans and bottles in the cooler. Plenty of liquor, though they didn't have any scotch I would want to drink. Maybe four bottles? As advertised, a dive bar. Both in look and smell (which wasn't bad, per se). There was a blue grass group starting to jam a little after I got there. The patron next to me said they were part entertainment, part jam session. Which sounded pretty darn cool to me. Basically everyone in the place was there to hang and/or play. I was asked if I was a musician. Not since high school. When I played it was the answer to the trivia question.
