I have driven by this place for a long time, it is easy to miss on Muldoon. The service was good with several of the staff making sure my 7 year old was happy during the meal. The food is good not spectacular but better than average. You also receive 2 meals worth of food with every order. I've had Chinese food all over this city, and this is my favorite. Warm, cozy and friendly ambiance and atmosphere. Despite the misleading exterior, really nice when you get inside. Chicken was delivered cold and so dry and rough it was like eating fried wood chips. Every single piece I could bare to taste had this consistency. I was only able to eat a couple pieces before pawning it off on my roommate who said the couple pieces he could eat were the same as I described. We tried two appetizers, the Crab Rangoon and the Fried Potstickers, and for the entrees we got the Combos of Mongolian Beef/Teriyaki Chicken, General Tso's Chicken/Teriyaki Chicken, and also some Sesame Chicken and Shrimp Fried Rice. Our order arrived 20 minutes earlier than stated, the portions were much larger than expected (which technically drops the price in half because we've all got another whole meal for the next day!,) and it was honestly some of the best food we've all experienced in awhile! This place has the best food by far. There are lots of Chinese and Asian food restaurants here so the competition is steep. I like their crab-Rangoon and black-bean noodles. When I first went here, it was some kind of Mexican-Asian fusion which bombed. But they turned around and became Oriental Garden, which I must say, the food has greatly improved. The hours are great for late night dinners or weekend karaoke sessions. We usually get their Crab Rangoon and Sesame Chicken which are delicious and the customer service was also great. Based on the reviews, I was excited to visit Oriental Garden. The pictures of the food looked great and upscale. Anchorage needs good Chinese food and a fusion of Korean flavor is a bonus. I am sorely disappointed by the 3 star rating I am giving. Really this place could be so much more than it turned out to be. I know this is East Anchorage, but we like up-scale also. My husband and I visited a little before 8pm on a Friday night. We were one of three cars in the parking lot, not a good sign. The décor is an eclectic fusion of style, sort of a mix of Asian, Alaskan, South-Western, flea market. The walls sported salmon sculpture with tile decorations and a lizard, the tables had fancy nested oil and vinegar bottles repurposed for soy sauce, and covered with fingerprints, amidst the country iron rooster paper napkin holders. The water glasses were small stainless cocktail shakers and the cloth napkins containing a fork and spoon, with no chopsticks in sight, were bright yellow. Plastic bamboo plants gave a semi-organic touch, if you like plastic. Odd music came over the speakers, not a genre expected in an Asian restaurant. A huge big-screen television was tuned to some sort of sports interview that shined in my face from 4 feet away. We were seated and given menus. I looked for the other half, to no avail. My phone showed many great looking dishes and combination meals, but few were actually on the menu. I really wanted some of the dishes in the pictures like stir-fried glass noodles or the Kung Pao/General Tso's, but upon later research found that these must have been specials. The menu sorely lacks variety unless you order each dish and then have to also order fried rice, egg rolls, or anything else at a separate charge. We waited for our order to be taken, and waited some more. A waitress finally came over and took our order, and five minutes later, another showed up to do the same thing. When it rains, it finally pours. I ordered a combo of Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken. My husband had the Kung Pao Shrimp and an egg roll. Bowls of soup arrived unexpectedly. They contained a small amount of rice, fried won ton strips and I believe hamburger. He taste was dead mediocre, which for Chinese restaurant soup in Anchorage means it was a distinct cut above the awful stuff served elsewhere. A waitress refilled ourt water glasses, then another attempted to do the same two minutes later. The service became more hap-hazard quickly. First an egg roll arrived, one ordered with a meal. Ten minutes later, the Kung Pao Shrimp arrived. Then another table was served, yet I waited for my order. Another 10 minutes passed and the cook came out to see that I have not been served yet. Finally my plate arrived and we could start eating. Hello, serve the table so the guests can eat together. To be fair, the food a mix of good and needs-work. The egg rolls were a bit greasy and soft with crispy sections. The flavor was better than the texture. The sweet and sour sauce was better than average with a bold flavor. The General Tso's Chicken was pretty tasty with whole chilies and an abundance of garlic. The sauce was rich and spicy, quite good. The chicken was moist but the major flaw was a soggy coating. If it had been crisp, it would have been excellent, but as is, was only pretty good. The Mongolian Beef was good, not too greasy, and not too sweet. I think I tasted sesame oil. a nice addition. The fried rice was a bit above average, which is good for Anchorage. The Kung Pao Shrimp was not something we would order again. Our strict expectation extends from a restaurant in Virginia that forever shamed all following versions of the dish. It was very spicy with succulent shrimp coated in crispy bliss and scattered with water chestnuts and green onions. This was nothing like that. The shrimp were naked with green peppers in a meager heat of a sauce. Overall, the portions were a good size. I will not be anxious to return because I don't normally do Chinese at night unless I cook at home. My advice to the restaurant is to organize the wait staff, step up the cooking a bit since you are already better than average, and make things crispy. Expand the menu a bit by adding some combinations and get rid of the TV, as this is not a sport bar. Also wipe off the fingerprints on your soy sauce bottles. read more

We decided to try OG after having been disappointed at other local Chinese food eateries and this was excellent. On our first evening visit we had two appetizers, tempura fried shrimp and BBQ pork-both were perfect. I had Kung Pao chicken and please note I appreciate spicy food. Wow was this spicy-I asked the server and she said it was a 1 out of 5(I can't believe anyone can go as high as the 5). The chicken breast pieces were melt in your mouth tender and the sauce was very flavorful. My dining partner had Mongolian beef, which I tasted, and the beef was perfectly tender-and had ample veggies. Both are accompanied with sticky rice. On a second visit for lunch I tried the teriyaki chicken lunch special with fried rice and fried pot sticker. Everything was excellent with two perfectly grilled and marked chicken breasts and pot stickers that melt in your mouth. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken lunch special and it was also very good--with the sweet and sour sauce not overpowering or super thick. This is a new restaurant, and me and my wife have been wanting to try something different that was close to our home and that does delivery. I got the Mongolian beef with the king pao chicken combo and it came with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. The kung pao chicken had good flavor and was more on the sweet side than on the spicy side. The Mongolian beef was nice and tender also. My only problem was the fried rice. It was VERY bland. I mean good thing I was at home to where I could put some teriyaki sauce on it. My wife got the beef fried rice and it was bland also. May needed a little salt. The menu had a lot on it and the portion sizes were really good. I think they should change thier menu a little bit. They have it listed that the family plate had 16.95 per person, and you get a lot of food, but you can't get it unless you have 2 people eating it. Just the wording on it could be made better. I think if you live or are on the east side of town give it a try, and let's hope they can stay consistant in the future. read more

Well I wanted to like this place but it was some what of a let down. Let's start with when we walked in it was empty, no one greeted us for about 5 minutes. We had our son with us and wasn't brought a high chair, husband had to grab it. The water they gave us tasted off, like nasty sink water or like the ice machine needed to be cleaned. Food was okay, but I'm wondering just how fresh it is due to the fact that after we ordered, our appetizer came out 5 minutes later and two minutes later our entrees came out. The decor is a little off. I know it recently changed from a Mexican fusion place but for it now being a Chinese restaurant they should fix the decor. read more
