The service is very slow. The egg drop soup was delicious. The egg rolls had a very strong fish flavor. Based on my limited knowledge of why it tasted that way, I assume it's because they don't change the grease vats frequently... We had to ask for our food to go because we had to pick our kids from gymnastics class. We got each dish for $10 because of the early bird special. However, I'd be willing to pay more for fresh food and quality ingredients. This is not the place for that. read more

Had left town for a few years and got takeout with family from here while visiting. Since this place is right up street I wanted it to be good but was very unimpressed. The sesame chicken was OK and had white meat (pretty dry) and the ingredients were fine but it just seemed overly oily with a very dry inside to the chicken. The sweet and sour pork was awful. The pork was rough and dried out in a deep fried casing and there was really no flavor or anything to cook and bind it together. I simply didn't even eat this. The crab wontons may have had a crab escape them.... Because they were most definitely just cheese wontons. I don't expect a megaton of crab in these but am pretty confident they literally contained zero crabmeat. I guess the soup and eggrolls were decent though, but won't be returning. read more

After looking at several reviews for Chinese delivery in Kingwood we decided on Oriental Gardens. Was disappointed in the Peking Pork, very little flavor. This dish could not decide if it was going to be sweet or Spicey or savory. Also ordered the crab puffs and there was NO crab. They were a giant ball of cream cheese. I asked about the coupon in their home page after giving my credit card and she told me it was a good thing I mentioned it before the credit card machine finished because it is very difficult to reverse a transaction and then told me to receive the coupon I had to print the coupon but it was just text on their front page. And she went on and on about me HAVING to have the coupon printed. Just odd. When the driver got here and we gave him the coupon he laughed. The driver was very nice and very quick delivery hence the 2 stars. read more

Very nice inside; and quickly seated. Came on a Saturday night at 7 and not busy at all. Hot and sour soup was great, and the crab puffs are amazing! Comes with 6 puffs and they were hot and gooey. Food came out very quick and piping hot. The human triple delight is the plate to order with shrimp, beef, and chicken. Had a hankering for Chinese when we were in the area. Wife utilized Yelp to find us a Chinese restaurant near by. I worked in just such a restaurant when I was young so I'm a bit critical. We were still in time for lunch. The lunch menu was extremely reasonable. I usually order sweet and sour shrimp when I'm out but did not see on the menu, so I decided on the General Chicken, with fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup. To my delight the General Chicken was the best I'd ever tasted, with just the right amount of spice and sweetness. The wait staff was attentive and cordial! This was our first and only time ordering from here. Ordering the food was very easy and the delivery boy was very friendly and nice. From there it was just downhill. My husband had beef fried rice with so many bean sprouts he ended up going out to get McDonalds. I had the general tso chicken which thankfully is white meat but had a weird texture. One lonely lunch hour, I had a hankering for Chinese. There's a handful of places where I can choose from, but Oriental Gardens was close by so I thought I'd check it out. Glad that I did. Not only is it super cheap (lunch specials run $5.55 to $7 or so for premium dishes), it's super good. I ordered the chicken with broccoli lunch special, which came with your choice of soup, fried rice and an egg roll. I got the wonton soup, which restaurants usually charge more for. Not Oriental Gardens. And the soup was good. It was chicken-broth based and they served it with cut scallions and crunchy noodles. A few minutes later, the chicken with broccoli came out. You could tell off the bat it was made fresh, unlike other restaurants that leave popular dishes stewing in the back waiting for an unlikely patron to order them. It came out steaming hot and throughly delicious. The brown sauce was made slightly sweet with hints of ginger. The fried rice is nothing more than white rice sauteed in soy sauce, which is fine. Total bill? $6.44, including tax. Love it. Main entrees for dinner run from $8.95 and up. Main stays hover around $9-$10 whereas the more "exotic" choices (such as grilled salmon in a wine and ginger sauce) run around $12-$14. Not bad, if you ask me. oriental gardens is amazing. its the first chinese place we ordered from after moving to trailwood in 1989, and its the only place we stuck with. kingwood chinese seems to cause a schism amongst the oldschoolers. there are mencius people, hunan gardens people, and oriental gardens people. id like to think that us OG's have a slightly more refined palate. over the last 20+ years, we have stuck with a couple staples: general chicken, chicken and snowpeas, beef and broccoli, "house special" pan fried noodles... pretty freeking amazing. the reason we have stuck with OG is due to the fact that they use spices correctly. there is NOTHING worse than bland chinese food- hunan, schezuan, cantonese... whatever. all chicken and no spice makes allison a dull eater. i cant vouch for the inside of the place, since we have NEVER eaten inside... but what fun is chinese food if youre not eating it in your pajamas anyhow? ive eaten chinese food all over america and overseas (not asia, obviously), and OG is literally one of the only good places ive been to. right now i live in colorado and cry myself to sleep because of all the shittastic chinese out here. read more

The mister and I were starving and couldn't agree on any place to eat. I got on yelp and searched for ANY restaurant with good reviews in our area. We finally agreed on oriental gardens, and boy am I happy we did! I really have to be in the mood for Chinese and I am super picky about my chicken lo mein, but this was great! The mister had sweet and sour chicken and he liked his as well. I took everyone's advice and tried the hot and sour soup. I had never had it before so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I really liked it and will get it again. The waiters are all dressed in bow ties, so we thought we were under dressed until we noticed other patrons were wearing jeans as well. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because we had 3 different people wait on us. One person introduced themselves, took our orders, someone else brought us our food and other person brought us our check, and the first person never came back to check on us. It's okay. We bought the chicken fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, eggrolls and general's chicken. The chicken in the fried rice has a weird texture/look. It was probably processed chicken. I did like the fact you can order the fried rice without veggies. The eggrolls were large. They shred the cabbage really small which I like, but its pretty much all cabbage with no meat. Good flavor. Sweet and sour chicken was horrible. I like the tempura batter and I'm not sure if this restaurant uses a different batter or if they messed up the batter and didn't want to make a new batch. The chicken was all white meat chicken, but was overcooked. General's chicken was all white meat and was okay. Could have been sweeter and it wasn't spicy. The food was so blah. Well let me start at the beginning. I went on a Saturday night around 7pm. After reading so many good reviews I feel like maybe there was a different cook in the back preparing crappy food. When I walked in with my girlfriend there was no one to greet us at the front desk. We sat down (which didn't take long at all) and as soon as I sat down, my glass looked a little spotty. Turned out it was a little dirty. Wanting to give this place a fair chance, I wiped off the smudge and was a little surprised when the server came back with our drinks (in cans) and two glasses fully filled with ice. She could've opened the cans and poured the drinks before she came out... or am I asking too much? We ordered our food, about 10 minutes later we received our soups. I had a won ton soup, totally flavorless and my lady had the egg drop soup which wasn't that great but it was hot and nothing that a little salt wouldn't fix. At this time an elderly gentleman came around, picked up our cups and later returned with our egg rolls. Egg rolls were freshly made, not reheated. Ok, so main course. I had the sweet and sour chicken combo, it comes with the fried rice. The chicken was fully cooked, the fried part was not gooey or melding with the chicken. The only problem I had was that the chicken had NO FLAVOR, the pineapples, green bell peppers, onions and slices of carrots were right out of the fridge. The only hot thing on my plate was the rice, chicken and sweet(less) sauce. My girlfriend had the general Tso. That was overseasoned with garlic and needless to say, my girlfriend did not finish or even get to half of her plate. Our server was originally a girl, we never saw her after she brought our canned drinks. Don't know what that was about. I was so glad when it was time to go that I didn't even go to the restroom to wash up. Horrible place. Will never return. I don't understand if the people giving the Awesome reviews on this place have shitty taste buds, don't know good Chinese food or are just used to eating flavorless, overseasoned crap. Pretty good Chinese place. Been here a few times and the Lemon Chicken seems to be one of the top recurring orders for my party. It's pretty freakin good, but beware for pickup or delivery it takes a little longer. My complaint is the price, it's a bit high but you are getting pretty good quality. Decided to try this since my Humble "favorites" WanFu and Grand Garden have gone downhill so bad. I was impressed. Nice decor, real porcelain soup spoons instead of the usual plastic crap these days and a guy that keeps your water full every five minutes. Lol. The food was definitely better than average. Couple knocks: the egg rolls would be better if they didn't mince the cabbage so much. Then the filling wouldn't spill out every time I tried to dip it. The "crab" puffs seemed to be just cream cheese, no crab. Still yummy, but...and their "spicy" dishes were not spicy AT ALL. But they were VERY tasty. As were the soups. Not sure why fried rice in Texas is devoid of any vegetables but that was the case here as well. I would definitely make the trek out here again. read more

I ordered the Hunan chicken for carry out and it was delicious! Better than other places I've had by far! The lady at the front counter was super friendly and when she took my order over the phone she made sure I had the right location. She also made sure I didn't have a peanut allergy because this dish has them in it. The attention to detail was nice. We have ordered from this restaurant for going on 23 years. The food was always decent and the staff friendly. We called for delivery tonight and waited over an hour before calling to see what was up. We were told that the food was ready but they were waiting for a driver and they'd deliver it when someone got back in. Given the fact that the food was sitting out for over an hour and would take who knows how long to get it here we told them to cancel the order. We were given so much grief about a refund and that the food was there on the counter waiting to be delivered. We kept trying to talk with the manager but couldn't get him on the phone. We finally spoke with a waiter who said he would refund but the delivery guy had already left with the food. They said they didn't have his number and to turn him around when he got there which ended up being 1 hour and 45 minutes after the initial order. We never did talk or get a call back from the owner or manager. I am extremely unhappy with this restaurant and will NEVER go there or order from them again. Mike W. read more

Best Chinese food in the Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita areas. The menu is a mix of different cuisines, but has some Hong-Kong type dishes that I like, such as pan-fried noodles and black-bean sauce scallops. I also like the spicy fried fish bites. The only non-authentic part of the Chinese dining experience is they provide fried chow mein noodles as a free appetizer. Food is cooked fast, served hot, and very tasty. Portions are average to generous in size, and prices are very cheap. You can ask for steamed rice instead of fried rice with the combinations, or any other requests such as low salt. Interior decor is dated. You can tell that it has not had a major upgrade in at least a decade. However, they keep the interior clean and organized. Employees are helpful and friendly and speak good English. Overall, for quick, cheap, tasty, and reasonably authentic Chinese food, Oriental Gardens can't be beat. Located in a shopping center on Kingwood Drive that does not get a lot of other traffic so there is always plenty of free parking. Relatively close to HW 59, so easy to get to this location Yelp's cost category is not correct. Lunch averages about $7, dinner maybe $10-12 a person. Very good deal, especially when fast food meals are now in the $6-7 range these days. read more
