Finally! Found my BR favorite for Chinese. The dinner buffet was $15 before tax.. all the food, the shrimp & meats, including sushi, was of higher quality and the sauces & recipes tasted distinct. I liked that everything didn't taste the same!! Didn't try desert bar, but had a vanilla cone. I haven't had a favorite Chinese restaurant in many years .. (prefer Thai & Vietnamese) and I've even been here a time or three MANY years ago, between 2000 & 2008 was probably the last time & it's obviously under new ownership & totally different layout & the food was so much better. Staff was really sweet too. They give you a punch card to get your 10th meal free. I frequently go for the takeout buffet. The California type rolls are to die for. Owner allows takeout of 10 pieces, I believe. The chicken and vegetables are always soft and moist. Salty shrimp is yummy too. Egg drop soup w fried wonton chips, egg rolls , chicken on a stick, sweet and sour chicken/shrimp - I could go on and on. I love this Chinese restaurant, can ya tell? I love the Oriental Pearl! It is my favorite place to get Chinese food in Baton Rouge. It is located on Sherwood Forest Blvd. and Coursey Blvd. not to far off I-10 or down from Airline Highway. Leaving is kind of hard, you are forced to wait to cut across traffic or go down Coursey to circle back to Sherwood Forest. For food, there is a buffet which always features my favorites: egg rolls, sesame chicken, chicken on a stick, grilled potatoes, lo mien and more! If you like sushi, there are sushi options available as well. Additionally, if you can't dine in, you can get a box to go, but honestly, I need multiple trips to get all that I am craving, so dining in is the way to go! The staff is always welcoming, clears our plates away quickly and makes sure our drink cups are full! The food is fairly priced, and if you are a frequent visiting fan, you can get a punch card that gets you a free buffet every 10 visits! I have passed this place for many years and never stopped to try it. Thanks to yelp I was looking for some new Chinese places around work with a good rating as my usual spot seemed to get a new cook and it's no bueno now. The parking lot was packed and so was the inside but I was seated promptly. I didn't notice it was an all day buffet until I saw a sign inside. The buffet is really small. It's one price for the whole day (9.50). But sometimes small is good. Everything on that buffet was fresh from the food to the fruit. The pineapples I had I could ate 3 bowls of it and been just fine. The lady at the register has a camera in plan view and watches the kitchen and the sitting areas. So I could see the kitchen was pretty clean. Would highly recommend if you are on this side. I will be visiting it more often. read more

Service was efficient but the food was once again horrible, I've been eating here for awhile and this is where that ends. As of 02/28 I ordered sesame chicken and black pepper chicken. The rice smelled funny which has me stuck to the toilet today and missing work, my black pepper chicken was full of sugar what it never have in it.
