This is a very small "hole in the wall" joint. The sushi is to die for! The sesame chicken is really good, but has a lot of sauce on it. It's not bad, but not my first choice. I was a little concerned with the lack of selection at first, but all of the classics are there. It is not somewhere I would bring my young kids because they don't have pizza and chicken nuggets as most Chinese buffets have. I went to Oriental Pearl today for lunch. It was my third visit. Some background for the visit...my husband and I went once and I liked it. We took our kids, and neither seemed to like or dislike it overly much. Today, when I suggested meeting my husband for lunch (he works in that area), my daughter immediately suggested Oriental Pearl. She never suggests a restaurant. I was impressed. The buffet was hot and fresh. We got there at 11:30, just as the lunch crowd was beginning to filter in. They serve all of the regular Chinese dishes on their buffet. They also serve sushi on their buffet that is made fresh. The rice, sweet and sour chicken, chicken skewers, and sesame chicken that i ate were all great. My daughter ate chicken and broccoli and beef and broccoli, along with sweet and sour chicken and several other items that I didn't catch because she ate them so quickly. She enjoyed her meal. My husband grazed through the bar. I know he had salt and pepper shrimp, which he liked. He probably sampled small amounts of many other items as he likes everything they serve. The people in his office eat at Oriental Pearl on a regular basis so he is well versed in his favorites. Desert was simple, chocolate and vanilla ice cream with fresh sugar donuts. If you're over by the Quarters Restaurant on Sherwood Forest and have a craving for Chinese Food, I recommend you stop by the Oriental Pearl. If I could give this place zero stars I would mainly because of the food. I don't mind that the buffet is small but my main issue is that the "Chinese" food they serve is either extremely sweet or extremely salty. The bourbon chicken tasted old and was so hard it cracked my tooth it also tasted more like candy, that's how sweet it was!The food caused a stomachache. I Will never return! I love Chinese food but this place literally charges you for everything . I ate in at the restaurant the other day and being the fact that it's a buffet, you only pay one price which is the entry fee i guess. I ate my food, got a to-go box because i wasn't done with my food and I was charged $10 dollars more. everyone else that ate with me paid $13 something but I paid $25.26 because I got a to-go box. Chinese buffets in Baton Rouge are at their low point in my opinion---whereas at one time you were able to get decent food for a decent price, that is no longer the case and most decent Chinese buffets have been overtaken by Japanese style buffets which offer some Chinese food offerings. Currently Oriental Pearl seems to be the best Chinese buffet in the area although incidentally it has extended their offerings to include selections of sushi on the buffet. It should be noted that that the there are only 2 serving islands here plus the sushi line however the selections here all have flavor and are distinctive in taste so that is a serious positive---there's seasame chicken; triple crown, beef with broccoli, lo mein and all of the usual offerings but it to me tastes better than all of the other Chinese buffets in the area. So I give 4 stars and look forward to my return read more

The great thing about this buffet is that there is sushi that is although lackluster, all you can eat. The price of the buffet also doesn't change from lunch to dinner and stays at about 9 dollars a person. Very reasonably priced. Food isn't out of the ordinary good but the place is worth the money you are paying. Bite per dollar is a solid 5/5. Come here when you're hungry but don't wanna spend more than 10 bucks. We ordered for the first time tonight. We are used to the buffet style Chinese restaurants, so we were not sure what we were getting into! We have a picky teenager, who would rather have chicken tenders from a fast food joint! But she loved the lo mein, we ordered the chicken but got thecombination by mistake, not a bad things she ate all but the shrimp which I added to my Kung pao chicken which was great! Oriental Pearl seems to be a popular option when it comes to a buffet style lunch. They offer all of the classics you'd see at any Chinese buffet but with a couple of sushi rolls thrown into the mix. The selection is definitely limited being that the buffet is smaller than most. The food isn't bad but it also isn't great. Although some options are prepared very good, the others are just... "okay". My personal favorite here are the crab rangoons. Again, they don't have enough options to make it practical to bring a family here as theres not any kid friendly items that other buffets offer such as fries, chicken nuggets or pizza. Oriental Pearl is a just stop for a quick lunch before returning to the Monday to Friday grind. They also offers to-go boxes that are the same price as the buffet itself. You're better off just dining in, unless if you're well... in a rush. One thing that I will say about this place is that it's priced very well and they even offer punch cards. Dine in 9 times and get the 10th free(?). You just have to remember to present your card at the register, you'll only get a stamp/signature for dining in only. The way I feel about Oriental Pearl is just the same as the Yelp description for a 2 star rating. "Meh. I've experienced better." However, if you're looking for a quick, well priced and must have the essential Chinese favorites. Oriental Pearl is where I would recommend you to go. read more
