    Triple Combination
    Sabrina K.

My boyfriend and I went to visit the restaurant two days ago and decided to do a review. as soon as we walked in, we were immediately greeted by the owner and another associate. The owner brought us to a quiet section and was very quick with grabbing us some waters to start off with. The server came over with some hot tea and asked us if we had any questions about the menu. The seats were comfortable and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. You can tell that the owner enjoys seeing the community in his restaurant as he made his rounds around the place. We did put a order in for steam dumplings and pleasantly surprised by not only the price but the taste of them. We also ordered the fried wings and they were hot and perfectly seasoned for dinner. We ordered the triple combination that came with fried rice and it was a perfect size to split between two adults, featured a beef shrimp and a chicken dish. We both enjoyed the beef and shrimp but the chicken with peas wasn't our favorite. The chicken surprisingly didn't have as much flavor as the rest of them.

One of the better Chinese restaurants along/near Haddon Ave. The owners and staff are super friendly. The atmosphere is clean and pleasant with plenty of different seating options including booths, standard table/chair seating, and larger tables for big parties. The food is consistent and non-greasy especially when compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. Their Chicken fried rice is a favorite as is the Special General Tso's Chicken w/ Steamed chicken, Sauteed with tangy glistening brown sauce, and mild spice, listed under the Chef Specials section on the Menu. The fried dumplings, spring-rolls and Eggplant with Garlic Sauce are all good options as well. The nice thing here at Oriental Pearl is that there are plenty of options on the menu and if you want to add Japanese, Thai, or Vietnamese Cuisine they have that here too. Street Parking is available, or in a private lot behind the restaurant. They are a BYOB, so bring your favorite Wine, Beer or Saki. 4 stars due to the fact that they rise above the other Chinese options in the area

My family and I have been coming to Oriental Pearl for over 15 years. I feel like at this point we are practically considered family. The food has always been very consistent and I honestly never had a bad meal. My only gripe is that the raw/smoked fish based sushi and sashimi has always been a little bit too fishy for me and does not seem to be the freshest. I tend to order rolls with more vegetables and cooked meats/fish. They have really great lunch and dinner combinations where specific meals come with soup, a spring roll, and white/brown/fried rice. I give them a solid 3.5 stars. Good food and quick, friendly service.

Ambience is nice: it's tastefully decorated, not over the top. We had made a reservation and were promptly seated. It was moderately busy, but not packed. Service and food were both excellent. Our server was accurate and attentive. My husband and I started with the Steamed Dumplings, which were tasty. We enjoyed our main dishes -- Drunken Noodle (with beef) for him and Spicy House Noodles (with shrimp) for me. He said it's in his "top 2" best drunken noodles he's had. Everything was hot and perfectly seasoned; good portions. My friend had ordered a "sizzling" dish that did not come out sizzling, but he enjoyed it nonetheless; he and his wife had no other complaints. We all got dessert. I ordered the Mango & Sticky Rice, which was amazing -- definitely in my "top 2"! Restrooms were clean and functional. We all agreed we would dine here again. If you find yourself in the Kennett area craving delicious Thai food, I recommend checking this place out. You won't be disappointed!

For appetizers, we got the egg roll and chive pancakes. I would say to skip the egg roll. In my opinion, the wrapper was way too thick and hard rather than thin and crispy. The filling tasted just ok. Instead, I would get just the chive pancake. It's fragrant, herbaceous, light, and pleasantly chewy and bouncy. For my pad Thai entree with tofu, it was decent. The portion size is a little smaller than what I am typically used to from other Thai restaurants but I was still full. I got a 3/5 and it wasn't spicy to be. It was savory, had a strong fish sauce base, and good! I would get this if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way.

Not to mention, many of the cooling dishes did their jobs in mitigating the heat. The super-friendly and informative wait staff was careful to make sure that members of our party with food allergies were safe from shellfish. And Chef Nok stopped by our table to say hello!

The bigger booth was so much more comfortable; it definitely enhanced our experience. The waiters were also wonderful with checking in on us throughout the meal but not trying to rush us out the door. We got 3 entrees + 1 side: - pla nung manao (branzino) - tumis pla (fish curry) - gai yang naa por (half chicken) - yum makhua yao (eggplant) My favorite was the tumis pla and I was sad we didn't have leftovers to take home. The eggplant (I'm not always the biggest fan) was delicious - great texture and complexity of flavor. The food is a bit pricey (portions are quite small) but it all tastes delicious. We shared this among 4 adults and I left satisfied.
