Short Review: The best Ramen in Maricopa County, in my opinion. To-go boxing was nicely secured. The portion was good for the price. The service was good, but the managing of the place is not so good. The outside sign post needs to be changed. It used to be, apparently, "Ud Thai." Overall, the the food is great, but this shouldn't be the grand opening. For more details, read below. Long Review: Origami Ramen is located Southeast of Phoenix, right on the edge of it. It's actually much closer to Tempe, but is technically in Phoenix area. Getting here wasn't difficult, but because they haven't changed the sign of their shop, it can overshadow their sign sometimes making it difficult to discern by naked eye from a far away distance. On the inside, it was modern, but felt like a small family diner. With the orange-y color and limey-green near the register counter, I'm not so sure how I feel about that. It certainly does capture that "origami" color though. I think, it would have been better if it was a nice red with black and white color (for the walls, ceilings, and floors) matching red-crowned crane. When you think about Origami, you immediately picture a crane and often is, it is the mascot of Origami. Just one man's opinion, of course. Let's get to the service and the managing part. This is where the disaster comes in place and why some people complains about it on review like google or yelp. So, apparently, Origami Ramen does not take phone order, takeout order from the inside, dine-in or any other offer of transaction other than their website (online means). That means, you can only and only buy their food through their website. However, that's not the worse part of it. Because there is an extremely high traffic online order, the Origami Ramen staff members doesn't have time to take anymore orders; therefore, they temporarily close the online order for some minutes, usually about 20 - 30 minutes, give or take, until they open the order online again. That means, if you are not prepared and didn't know better like I did, and walked into Origami Ramen, you'll have to suffer through 40 - 60 minutes wait time until you are able to order again. If you are lucky, you'll only have to wait 15 - 30 minutes after ordering online. As for the service, I believe, the front worker could be the owner, I'm not 100% sure, but he had difficult explaining what is going on in English because Japanese is his first language. So, you are gonna have a difficult time understanding what is going on for the time being. In any case, if they cannot take that much order in the first place, they should have not done the grand opening yet and also, sort the timing of opening and closing because from 4:00 PM - 8:30PM isn't good enough. Now, let's start what I have ordered. I got the Origami Spicy and their Chashuu Don. Origami Spicy: This is base on their description website: "ORIGAMI SPICY House-made ultra rich and creamy spicy chicken broth with curly noodles topped house-made pork berry cha-shu ,egg ,green onion ,flavor chili oil and black pepper." The broth was truly creamy, it was like bathing in a natural hot spring with the small waterfall raining down house-made noodles, but the best was the chashuu. This has got to be the best chashuu I have ever tried. With the technique of slow-cooking, the particles of the pork belly has broke down to pieces making it deliciously juicy and not a single dryness to each bite. The flavoring was just right without it being overbearingly salty or too plain to tell. My only complaint is they only use half-egg and very little green onions and other toppings. Chashuu Don: The best of the best of chashuu don I have ever had. One, the rice was just so juicy and soft. Two, obviously their chashuu (pork belly) is the one that give the don such delicate and juicy taste. It was like eating the softest don meal without taking much bite to it. The best part of it all, the creaminess sauce that over fills the top of the don. I believe it is kewpie mayo, if not, maybe their own mayo? Anyhow, the depth that it adds to chashuu don is just majestically exquisite. I have no complaints in this area. In conclusion, Ramen/Chashuu Don, I rate it in quantity a B+/A, and in quality an -S/A+. For ramen quantity, it's good that they add lots of broth and noodles, but everything else just sucks in terms of portion. It needs more topping, especially if you are paying over $12 a bowl. Chashuu Don was just perfect for the given portion vs the price. For quality, here is an exception. The Chashuu Don, for sure, was one of the best don I have had in awhile, but more importantly, their ramen has such godly taste. It truly has been awhile since I had have an S ranking ramen. With this quality of food, it's no wonder people are ordering like crazy. Side Note: Here is my recommendation, order online and wait. Do not bother calling or going inside to order because they don't do that. Just look up online and order. read more

As a Korean, I have always wanted to go to an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant and this place was it! My boyfriend and I went in and he got the spicy miso and I got the spicy original. My boyfriend liked how subtle his ramen was, he said "the more you eat it, the more you discover the true taste of this ramen." If you're looking for ramen and in the tukee area, this place is the one you're looking for. The people are friendly and nice as well. And have left overs? You can pack the broth and noodle to go! So I heard about this place a while ago and I didn't realize how close it was to my house. First I want to say staff is very courteous and friendly. Everything is order from your phone through scanning the QR app from your phone which is pretty cool with everything being contactless. We ordered our ramen 2 Classic and 2 Spicy. While we were reading the menu we thought it was very odd that they did chicken broth and not pork because pork has a more of a savory flavor. I honestly am glad we got to try it but was disappointed that it was chicken broth and not pork which makes a huge difference in flavor. With that being said we will probably stick to our original ramen spot not to far away. read more

Great little ramen spot, and this is coming from someone who lived in the SF bay area for about four years and recently had ramen in Tokyo. Pleasantly surprised at the quality. I had the rich miso and my dad had the classic. We ordered a couple hand rolls (baked crab and the eel) which were also pretty good. I would give one star but I'm not trying to ruin their business. I'm just so disappointed in the quality of the ramen that I had to say something. Just look at the eggs in all the pics here. They kick you out of the Country when you serve a hard boiled egg in ramen in Japan (used to be punishable by death). The flavor of the tantanmen is not right either, wrong type of chili, and wrong noodles. They are using Chinese egg noodles or something. If you are looking for something authentic or high quality, this is not it. But it's good to support our local restauranteurs, and maybe you'll like it better than me if you give it a shot. With COVID I've been avoiding ordering sushi, pho and ramen because I really think they're better enjoyed in the establishment. Let's be honest my dinky bowls didn't do this take out ramen justice. However the ramen itself was delicious. The broth had s very strong flavor and smell (in a good way). The meat was tender and well cooked and the noodles were exactly as they should be, chewy, flavorful and don't fall apart as they sit in the broth. Really the only thing I would knock them for is the price compared to the size. While 11-14 is pretty typical for ramen, you usually get a massive amount. This is definitely less than I'm used to other places. Still absolutely worth trying though read more

The prices are ok, but I was surprised about the included gratuity for my pickup. That's why they lose a star. I tried to order food. Firstly, the link accessible via Yelp to order pick up doesn't function. Accessing the website directly in a browser remedied that. Ordering online is done through Snackview, which I didn't really want to use so i tried calling as I wanted to ask some quick questions on the menu (number of pieces with rolls, size of one of the dishes. The phone goes directly to voice mail so I went back to ordering online. There is a pause in ordering and I am to check back in five minutes. I refresh and then the wait is longer...longer...and then I'm not able to order until tomorrow. We drive to the restaurant and everyone is in back cooking and assembling orders. I wanted to hate the elevator music but couldn't because it was such a wonderful mismatch to the fun colors and not at all stuffy vibe. The decor is intentional and ties together not to mention comfortable booths and plug ins at every table for those working or studying. Ordering was ridiculously easy. Scan a QR code and order directly from the app. Service was the perfect level of attentive and so incredibly polite. The food was fantastic and generously sized. Was excited to try a new ramen restaurant, especially one that was opened by a prior nobu chef. The pros were that they made it easy to order through their website, where very friendly when picking up our ramen, and the portions where decent size. What I wasn't impressed with was how salty the broth was, the egg being over cooked, and how starchy, undercooked, the noodles were. For the premium price, and nobu affiliation, I expected better. I would assume dining in the restaurant would be better with the noodles being cooked more by hot broth, I would suggest if you do take out you boil the broth before poring over the noodles so they can cook more. read more

I was super excited to come here because I love ramen but it fell so short for me. To start off there is no customer interaction at all. We ordered our food on the website and you have to tip before your meal which I did NOT particularly care for. We ordered a strawberry milk and I kid you not this thing was 100% ice and it was $4.50!!! I said something and they said they don't do it without ice because it's a little 6 oz can. So that left a pretty sour taste in my mouth. The fried Tayoyaki was actually really good. It had a lot of flavor, but again 6 little balls for $7.50. The actual ramen was okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Once again the price was way too high. The chashu wasn't very good - it had no flavor and that is usually my favorite part. The bottom line - just go to Tampopo Ramen in Tempe. It's so much better and not so pricey! We've been to several ramen places across the valley and that takes the cake. read more

Found this place on the way to airport for our big group. Small place but was empty because of the time we went. First, we were surprised to learn that you order online (using our phone) even for dine in. It was very inconvenient for us since we had multiple parties and we out together multiple tables. We ended up passing the phone (of the person paying) around to each person to put orders in. Second, since you order with your phone, you pay upfront, INCLUDING TIPS which I really didn't like since you don't know if service will be good bad or ugly. I have a couple nitpicks and suggestions, but everything I ordered was really tasty and fresh so it's hard to justify lowering the score. I just find it odd a ramen place only offers chicken-based broth and no Tonkotsu, which was what I was really craving. The egg is also hard boiled as opposed to soft (how it should be). But the chasu was the best I've had in the valley for sure. Update - the quality remained on par for several visits, but after not going for a month or so, I tried it again last night and boy did the ramen just completely change. The broth went from rich and flavorful to bland and watery. I order the same thing every time. They also let people dine in now and I did not feel comfortable waiting for my order inside with the amount of people eating in that small space. We ordered take out here and was very impressed. The ramen and fixings were separated to ensure the integrity of the food wouldn't be compromised. The broths were all so tasty! We ordered one of each. The spicy one was definitely bringing the heat. We also ordered the karage fried chicken, which was still crunchy and no soggy after picking up the food.
