Terrible service , food is not even close to just ok , the place is really nice, bit that is not enough.

Fast service and great standby classics? Yep, I'll be back. My roommate and I wandered over here before the Green City Market on a Saturday morning and were surprised to find empty tables in the restaurant just before 11am (a rare sight in this city). We snagged a booth and were promptly greeted and served. The menu is quite large, with an array of pancake options, skillets for the savory breakfast folks, some house specialties and more. My roommate ordered the skillet (which was actually just served in a dish), and she said it was good. Bonus: even most of the savory dishes have the option of pancakes on the side. I took the "When in Rome" route and ordered pecan pancakes which were awesome. The place lives up to its name and cooks a mean pancake. I ordered the bacon on the side, and it was thick-cut and well-cooked, everything bacon should be. It's not a brunch place you go for the atmosphere, but the Original Pancake House doesn't try to be anything it's not. read more

This place just didn't do it for me. I would only go back if everywhere else was busy. Coffee seemed burnt. You ask for cream and they give you this tiiiiiiiiiiiny little cup but don't offer any additional when they refill your mug so you feel like a pest for continually having to asking for more. I got a veggie quiche and it was honestly just reheated in a microwave. The fruit that came without was also pretty pathetic. Just not personality in the place. This is great restaurant with the most unique breakfast menu in the city. Original Pancake Houses are scattered around the country and Chicago is lucky to have 3...and the Lincoln Park one is the best. The service is excellent. This place has an old style charm that I hope never gets updated. The same menu - but different decor - can be found at the Walker Brother's chain in the north & northwest suburbs. The menu originated at the original Original Pancake House in Portland, Oregon. The coffee is strong but not bitter. If I'm going to spend money on breakfast, which I don't do often, this is the place. read more

EVERY time I've been here (to this location) they have ALWAYS gotten my order wrong and my pancakes are ALWAYS raw and undercooked. Although I was still looking forward to the Original Pancake House to many be into the neighborhood, I was disappointed both times I went. In fairness, I don't eat pancakes, but I love all types of eggs. The first thing me I went I got an egg white veggie omelette. It was awful. I much prefer those at Egg Harbor or Yolk. While I did not enjoy my meal this time, I did appreciate the service, price, and speed of the meal. They were super busy, but sat us right away and the food was quick. I always get the Baked Apple pancakes (other locations), but we didn't have time this time so I tried the (red berry with wine sauce) crepes that were pictured on the menu. They were far too sweet. She did enjoy her avocado and something or other omelette, and the fresh squeezed OJ. Pricing is very fair and the location was convenient. read more

Ok this was not a pleasant experience for me. Poor service. I had lipstick marks on my glass when I first sat down and when I asked for a new one the waiter rolled his eyes. Don't think I had my water refilled once. They cram tables together to the point where you're apologizing to the table next to you when you need to get in or out of your seat. The food looks good but potatoes tasted a little rubbery and my skillet just wasn't anything special. My boyfriend got the chocolate chip pancakes. He said they were pretty good. read more

Decent food but pricy ! Everything is extra. If you have celiac, look out because you won't pay less than $20 for a basic breakfast. My experience was horrible from the service to the food and even the manager were awful. My server was a short lady with blond hair and she ignored my table for 20 mins and when I told her my order she was so rude and when she brought my food it was completely different than wot I asked for and she said "that's what you ordered" and when I asked for the manager he didn't compensate me for my meal and that it was already in the system and he couldn't do anything about it so I ended up paying 35.00 for a omelette I didn't even ask for. I Don't give bad reviews, But I do speak my mind. Specially when I am a paying customer,but this weekend Saturday around 130 pm Seat 34 ,I came to this location with my family and had a great experience with the food, the waitress was good until. When it was time to get my check I was looking for her to get her attention and when I looked over she was by the coffee section talking to one of her coworkers about her plans this weekend, when I finally got her attention. All she said was you have a good day and nothing else Yazmine was goodBut is still young and has other priorities I will be back the food is great but I would prefer an older more professional waitress.At the end when I I was leaving another waitress said enjoy your day, I said thank you ,paid my check and said to myself I will be coming back and asking for that waitress, overall the food was great as always. read more

Been here many times but today the service and general atmosphere was TERRIBLE. The wait person took at least 10 minutes to greet us and we watched a woman who is cleaning tables wave the rag around in the air while she walked to a table to wipe it. I even mentioned to her that it was gross and she gave me a dirty look and i watched her continue to do it across the room. Come on people, especially now, be conscious of what you're doing. Business is going to be impacted so you need to be aware of what may make it worse. The place wasn't busy and the waitress didnt come back to refill coffee and we sat and sat waiting for our bill. This place is just so nostalgic for me. I can remember Sunday mornings with mom and her boyfriend. Even 20 years ago the place seemed pretty retro, it was in the basement of a highrise next to a convience store. I would always get pigs in a blanket. I was such a fussy child. I was in there this morning with friends and our server "Magaly R" was terrible!! She was very unfriendly and unnattentive, we had to keep asking and asking for coffee refills. My steak was over cooked and my hashbrowns were cold! Our server never smiled or greeted us either. There are other breakfast places in the area that we can choose to go to. Original Pancake House has the greatest pancakes you've ever put in your mouth. You don't even need to get fancy. Just get their regular old pancakes, put syrup on it, and prepare to have your mind blown. My wife gets cravings for this place on a weekly basis and she isn't even pregnant. Tried the new location again hoping it would be better than the last time. The former location at Clark & Armitage was nicer, with two counters, long-time servers, and good food. The outdoor tables are nice at the new Diversey location but the inside is a big white sterile box, no counter, and slower and less attentive servers. I had the buttermilk pancakes and they were underdone - something that never happened at the old location. Getting a coffee refill - a given before- was not so easy. For the pricey tab, I will take a pass and find a better place for breakfast. read more

This is my favorite place for breakfast...Yes, I know its a chain but by golly I love the coffee, it is good and strong. The Pancakes are amazing and I love the omelets. i am hesitant to review this restaurant only because i feel it is a hidden gem and don't want lines to form! but it is my far my favorite brunch place in the city. don't miss: buttermilk pancakes (i'm not a pancake person but these are insane), dutch baby (takes 20" but worth it, delicious, puffy, like funnel cake but better and more chic, apple pancake (huge and you will eat a fifth of it), the two by four is a good deal (2 eggs, stack of 4). i've been to the trendy brunch places, waited in line for 45" and paid for overpriced frooshi and $4 OJ. i always wish i'd gone to the original pancake house! keep it on the down low, but this place is the BEST! read more

I came to eat here on a Friday afternoon, so it was pretty dead. I liked the fact that I could take my time when eating, since most breakfast places are all about turning over tables. That being said, I'm sure this place is a madhouse on the weekends. I ordered the three little pigs and was not disappointed. Sausage links wrapped in great tasting pancakes. You can't really go wrong with that. This place gets major points for being just a half a block away.
