I'm sorry Jason. You really had my hopes up when you were talking about Betty and Earl"s biscuits on your show but you've proven to me once again that unless you were raised in the South or by a Southern transplant you don't have a clue about baking soda biscuits. A good southern biscuit is hard to find in Minnesota. In my house they are served warm. and soft, usually fresh from the oven. A dab of butter melted inside sets them off perfectly. If a restaurant in Minnesota says it has Biscuits and Gravy I can't resist trying it only to be disappointed over and over again. That being said, KFC and Hardee's both have a good biscuits. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with frozen Pillsberry Grand Buttermilk Biscuits. Not the ones that come in a tube. So why would I go to a bakery in a mall that opens at 11 to get a biscuit? I trusted Jason. He sounded so sincere. Huh! Big mistake, I should have checked out his genealogy. The actual place is in the food court in the Rosedale Mall and the sign says, "Seeet and Savory by Diane" . The first warning was seeing the biscuits on a covered cake tray like you might stack doughnuts. These people are bakers after all not cooks. So, we wait for the lady at the counter to finish helping the person in front of us and then we asked for biscuits and gravy. The lady walks over to the sign and shows us the little sticker they added that says, "Weekend's Only". I was already wondering why anyone would start serving breakfast at 11. While we were trying to figure out if that applied to every item on the board or just the biscuits and gravy another customer got in front of us. We decided to ask for biscuit and egg sandwich's and a cup of coffee. Well, they only make one craft of coffee a day and when it's out it's out. If we wanted coffee we were told we need to go to the Brew and Waffle concession a few feet away. Alright no big deal, but over there no one's behind the counter and I am baffled as to what is going on. It doesn't seem to be self serve but there is a young lady sitting at the counter eating. Finally she gets up and acknowledges me by telling me she's on break but but since I'm there, she'll help me out anyway. She made it very clear that I was inconveniencing her. Well then, put up a closed sign or a "Back at 1pm" sign. Let's just skip on to describing the biscuit sandwich or more precisely the $10 (the sign said $8 I think) biscuit sandwich. The biscuits were big and thick and yellowish in color. I wondered if they added cornmeal to the flour. They had a gritty texture but not as gritty as cornbread. Ok, next time we'll try Betty and Earl's Minneapolis location. And Jason, spend a weekend south of the Mason-Dixon line and learn a little more about biscuits. Damn! I'm so sorry! I've had two meals from Betty and Earl's and both are meals I would order again. While the plague perpetuates I am only getting curbside takeout, and their system for that works just fine. Ordering from the website is easy; you can opt for curbside delivery, and once your order goes through you get an email with instructions to call them when you arrive. There is a handy little parking circle by the main entrance to Potluck; that area gets plenty of traffic but your call with a friendly B&E's person will ensure that they find your car among the group. I got the biscuits with sausage gravy the first time and the pulled pork open-face biscuit thingie the second. Both were really good. The sausage gravy was a great, meaty brunch item, and the pulled pork was really delicious. Having piles of shredded BBQ pork on top of those thick, freshly-made biscuits was a unique experience. As long as you don't mind getting your fingers a little messy - and if you're eating pulled pork then honestly what do you expect - you just form a pile on one of the biscuits and hold it by the biscuit as you snack it down. There will be leftover meat that you can eat with a fork. I got yummy fresh cookies both times as well, and ended up full and satisfied. One issue I have with the website is that there isn't a description of the entrees, so you don't necessarily know what will come on them and there's no option to request, for instance, "hold the pickles". But that's about it; I really like the food I've gotten here and will keep it coming. read more

Really like what they offer here. Well done Jason M, in getting your shop up and running so smoothly. This is probably one of the best food items in any mall ever. The biscuits are light, airy and taste great. I like to think of this place as the equivalent of Raising Cane's; they do one thing and they do it very well. I think I have tried one of everything here, and my favorites are the biscuits and sausage gravy which could use a little more gravy; however, when can you ever have enough gravy, right? The cinnamon roll biscuit is quite good as well. One thing that amused me is their Cathead biscuit which is basically five biscuits baked together as one ginormous biscuit! I consider this a single serving biscuit....because the words "portion control" is not in my vocabulary. I would get something here every week if it was convenient for me to get there. I visited Berry and Earl's over the weekend after wandering Rosedale and needing a little something sweet. Their shop is the first one on the right when you enter Potluck. There was a short line so I was able to look over my options quickly before making a decision. The Cinnamon Roll looked tempting but I REALLY wanted to try their jam, so I went with the original. With tax, the whole thing totaled to $4.30 which I thought was fine. But here's the thing. This biscuit is a MEAL. It's thick, heavy in weight and probably one of the best things I've eaten this year. Even though the biscuit is physically heavy, it feels very light when you bite into it. The jam compliments the bake perfectly and I would order those two together in a heartbeat. My only recommendation is to use this as your first stop rather than your last, you won't need anything else! I hope to visit again soon. read more

So excited to have a biscuit place in the Twin Cities! I feel like Betty & Earls is a great start, and probably fine for mall food spot limitations, but I wish they had fresh sandwich options (ex the egg sandwich didn't look great). I got a bacon cheddar biscuit to go and reheated at home the next morning. It was pretty good, not as fluffy as I might have expected, but still tasty and I feel it reheated well. Got the sausage and gravy biscuit, which is 2x bigger than what you'd find at KFC/Popeyes. It's fluffy, comes with a side of gravy (really good), and a bit of gravy inside. Actually wished there was more inside, then perhaps the rest wouldn't have been so dry. That said, it's good, but isn't substantial enough to warrant the $4.75 price; a dollar less... seems fair! Or, maybe if the container of gravy was bigger it would seem fine as priced. I also got the sweet tea which was good, and only $1.50. Maybe it's to offset the cost of the biscuit. The young ladies working the register seemed nice, welcoming, and calm despite how busy things were. Overall, a good experience and I'd check it out again (to confirm my rating). read more

Every time I'm over on the North East side of the cities I try to drop by BEtty & Earl's. I love their sweets and cookies! The Bourbon Pecan mini pie is amazeballs! I really like all of their cookie options too! The Mini-snow-tah and Wisconsin sandwich cookies are the cutest! Yummy treat while you are at the mall! I ordered take-out online once I arrived. The staff asked if I had ever been before, and I hadn't; the staff explained what is offered and what was available in the case. The service was fast l, nothing was forgotten and the team was pleasant. I didn't only order something fresh and ready to eat, but I also ordered a biscuit to go. In the bag was a reheat instructions card that instructed how to reheat the take-home biscuit. I personally ordered this for the cheddar chive, and ham biscuit for the next morning. I highly recommend this biscuit. The ingredients and flavor in the cheddar chive and ham biscuit remind me of the cheddar biscuits Red Lobster serves (which are definitely a people pleaser). Still, Betty and Earls are bigger and more of a party in the center of the biscuit and in your mouth. read more

We tried several biscuits but I really miss the Mushroom Gruyere. It had the right mix of moisture and flavor. The sausage biscuits are very good. The ham and plain are slightly above average. The jam is very good. This time we tried both the Chocolate Chunk and the Chocolate Chunk Butterscotch cookies. Both are excellent but I am leaning towards the Butterscotch. read more

I just found out about the adorable food court at Rosedale called Potluck MN. It is so cute in there and all of the food looks amazing. It wasn't a meal time for me when I was there, so all I got was the caramel corn, but I am here to tell you it was AH. MAZE. ZING. I wanted to like this place but everything we ordered was terrible. The biscuits were so dry and tasted like flour, plus very heavy, not light and fluffy as a biscuit should be. The banana cream pie had dark brown bananas in it - oxidized & so unappealing - obviously no acid was used to keep them from turning brown. The custard was thick, not light, and the graham cracker crust was funky...we bought 2 of these and literally threw them out. French silk pie still had a raw crust and the whipped cream was old: hard and smelled like the case they were in. The chocolate silk was very thick and hard too. So cute and unique. They have savory or sweet biscuits and they all looked delicious. I went with one of the savory biscuit and butterscotch chocolate chip cookie to go. Even though I burned my taste buds off eating skittles the day before (don't judge) the cookie was still so delicious. I'm a sucker for sweets and especially butterscotch. The cookie had a great texture, not too soft or too hard, perfect for breaking apart and pretending your going to save some for later. The biscuit was filled with meat and came with a side of chunky gravy and instructions on how to reheat at home. I popped it in the toaster over and heated the gravy in my mini cast iron for breakfast. The biscuit was still perfect the morning after I picked it up. Ok, so this was my first time ever having biscuits and gravy thanks to Yelp and man I was missing out! I'm not a big gravy person so it never crossed my mind to give it a try with biscuits. Betty and Earl's definitely have me hooked. I ordered mine for pickup and didn't get home for a couple hours, heated it up in the microwave and was in heaven, I can only imagine how much better it's going to taste when I come back and eat it fresh. The biscuit still melted in my mouth and the gravy wasn't over barring. I ordered the B&E brunch meal which came with a delicious butterscotch cookie. There is a nice and surprising variety of biscuits at B & E with a down home name and a sort of rural Minnesota yah you betcha feel. For the first time I tried the original biscuit, warmed and then add your butter from the two pads they provide. The other other choices to go with the plain biscuit such as honey and some others. In the midst of holiday shopping, I was in need for a snack and beverage, so my friend and I wandered into Potluck, the new food hall inside Rosedale Center. I've been wanting to check this place out since it opened and heard good things about Betty and Earl's biscuits. As we perused the big glass case, we decided on one savory and one sweet biscuit to share. We chose the Sausage Gravy and Cinnamon Roll biscuits and each got the sweet tea (the only drink selection they offered.) The biscuits are already made and displayed in the case, so they were heated up when we ordered. The Sausage Gravy biscuit came with a small side of sausage gravy. The sausage biscuit was perfect, with the exception of there being way more biscuit than sausage. There was a small piece of sausage inside the soft, buttery and decadent biscuit. The outside was nice and flakey. I wish there was more gravy because I would have poured it all over my biscuit like a hungry girl on Thanksgiving. The Cinnamon Roll biscuit was okay. It was more on the dry side and not sweet, soft or good enough to warrant its name. The only thing that resembles a cinnamon roll is the cinnamon sugar in the middle and icing on top. I wouldn't get this again. The biscuits were a filling snack and the sweet tea was refreshing and not too sweet/overpowering. I am definitely coming back for that Sausage Gravy biscuit next time I'm at Potluck. read more

What the heck? I wandered into here just to get a sense of the new Roseville mall food court, and I came upon a unique experience of scones, muffins, biscuits, and cookies. I bought a butterscotch chocolate chip cookie for the movies; I thought it would be a sweeter treat than what the movie theater could provide. Ugh. I was wrong. You would think bakers would get something like a cookie right? Wrong! The entire butterscotch chocolate chip cookie had a VERY strong, VERY bitter baking powder aftertaste; so overpowering, the sweetness or anything other taste of the cookie was lost. MAJOR YUCK! I ordered the B&E Special that comes with biscuits n gravy, a cookie, and a drink. I LOVE biscuits and gravy because my mom always made it growing up, and this passed the test. I drove across town to try the Nashville Hot biscuit sandwich at their pop up last weekend at Freehouse. Overall, it was good, but disappointing. The biscuit was good (flaky, moist), but nowhere near strong enough to handle the heavy chicken breast, therefore it crumbled all over and was impossible to eat together as a sandwich. I was in the car, and definitely needed a knife and fork. And I swore the biscuit was supposed to be jalapeño and Cheddar, but there was no flavor of each. As to the Nashville hot oil? Barely there and tasted like nothing. All in all, it was maybe good enough to gibr it another try next time I'm in Roseville at the original location, but wouldn't drive across town again. read more

I got the cream cheese, apple biscuit topped with caramel. I took it to go because after grabbing lunch I was stuffed, but these biscuits looked oh so tempting. I warmed up at home and was pleasantly surprised. I always go savory, or should say I only know savory when it comes to biscuits. I'm a savory kind of gal, but the unsweetened, lightly salted nature of the biscuit paired so nicely with the apples and cream cheese. I'd give it a 3 because it's not something I'd go back for anytime soon, it was a meal in itself and was heavy. I thought too it was a bit high priced, but maybe that's just my cheap nature...haha. I had stopped at Betty and Earls shortly after they opened cuz I love The Jason Show and also the Jason & Alexis show and wanted to show my support. The biscuits were delicious of course but they were just starting out with limited options. I went back last night and ordered waaaaayyy more biscuits then I probably needed but hey it's a different time so why not!?!?! My husband and I split the Ham and Cheddar biscuit as an appetizer. OMG was this the amazing slice of heaven that I needed. It was warm, so much ham, buttery and flakey piece of awesomeness. I also bought the biscuits and gravy brunch meal. I heated up half this morning and it did not disappoint. The sausage gravy has so much flavor and just the right amount of spice with the biscuit. If you have not been here you must go! I had a mixed experience at Betty and Earl's yesterday (my first visit). The biscuits get five stars in my opinion. They're the real deal and I'm a harsh judge of biscuits. But, the other parts of my breakfast sandwich get one star. I had a sandwich with egg, chicken sausage and cheese. The egg looked like a pre made, thin and flat egg round (tasteless too), the sausage was similarly thin and tasteless and they had obviously used a plastic wrapped, processed cheese square which hadn't really melted. The potatoes were great and the side red pepper aioli was really good. The server was efficient but service was very slow. So, I would give B and E's a second chance based on their biscuits alone. However, I'm not gonna lie to you, a similar biscuit breakfast sandwich at Dunn Brothers is better and their biscuit makes the cut with me too. read more

I have been wanting to try this place since it opened. I ordered two biscuits to try. I ordered the cinnamon biscuit with frosting. It was delicious! I had it warmed and it hit the spot. I also tried the sausage biscuit and gravy. It was good. I liked the biscuit but the gravy wasn't what I was expecting. I bought a frosted molasses cookie to take home for later.
