    3 Tacos and Jarritos (steak)

All this for about $16, $20 with tip. I came for a quick lunch and was not disappointed. It was clean small place. Service was quick and friendly. Steak tacos were decent. Prices were fine. I am always looking for a good taco place in Palatine. I would come back here.

The first few times I tried this place I was turned off by the service - long wait time for to-go order when I arrived at the stated time and cashier wasn't particularly friendly. However, this most recent time they were a bit more pleasant so maybe we'll chalk the past experience to a bad day for them. Now about the food - pretty tasty overall. I got the Al pastor torta, and the bread was so fragrant and delicious, even better on reheat surprisingly. The chorizo tostada was loaded, though the shell was crumbling under the weight but still crispy. My wife got the tripe tacos crispy, which she said was just right. All in all I'd go back again - hopefully the service is now consistently friendly like this time.

Consistently GREAT tasting and authentic Mexican food and service from my favorite servers Ivan and Anita! The brightly lit dining area (which offers a lot of seating) and rest rooms are also clean every time I come in! I usually get my usual favorites: 1 of every taco they have plus menudo con pata, pozole and the Costillas de Res or Lengua and Salsa Verde!

Taco with a lot of lettuce not much meat !

Still good food but prices continue to go up and meat quantity in tacos continue to go down. They are going to ruin a good business by raising the prices so much and skimping on the meat ...my two tacos cost 6.00 and had more lettuce then anything, for essentially 3.00 a taco they should be very generous with the meat ....Also ..just an observation ..they seem to have more people working then in the past in the past it was 2 guys behind the counter and one girl working the tables. I think its been under new ownership for years ..the nice older guy that had the food trucks for lunch delivery I have not seen him for years he ran a lean business had low prices and food sizes where surprisingly big ..this is not longer the case.

Bring cash! There is a CC fee.

The food is great. I wish they had told me ahead of time that they were going to charge me a credit card fee. We had cash but they wouldn't take it after we noticed the fee- they said they could not reverse the transaction. They have huge hand-made signs for all sorts of things, they could have one about this too.

Left: steak taco original (with grilled onions and jalapeños), right: carnitas, tripe, and fish taco at the bottom.

5/5! Had a wonderful experience here. Came here with family including 3 toddlers. You can imagine…read morethe chaos it could be. But, it was a good overall time. Food- Delicious! Had the burratta & fig, porkbelly brushetta, and a flatbread as apps. Loved it all. porkbelly was so tender, the burratta & fig was a good balance of sweet and savory. Needless to say, the flatbread was a hit with the kids as well. Other notable dishes were the beef shwarma and the crispy duck. Ambiance- LOVE it! It can be fancy if you want, it can be more casual if you want. Enjoyed the church vibes mixed with modern touch. Very well decorated. The outdoor area is so cute, esp overlooking the lake. We sat indoors but still a wonderful ambiance. Bonus: they have a changing table in the women's bathroom. Sorry, could not confirm in the men's. Service- this was definitely impressive. You don't always get service especially at some of these well known restaurants bc why would you have to have good service? We had made reservations online and it was initially indoor. They were so awesome about switching it to outdoor with out much trouble even if we were 10 minutes late. But the air quality was so bad so once we were about to get settled we requested for indoor again. There was only smiles and a happy to help attitude and got us settled. I want to highlight our waitress, Ciara (Sierra?). With a party of 9, she was so thoughtful of our orders esp for the kids. I mean, when we ordered lemonade for them she even asked if she wants us to water it down and as parents we were like YES! They do not need that much sugar LOL! She was just overall so warm and communicative. She checked in and made sure we were comfortable. Her smile and pleasant attitude made it easier when we had three little ones wanting to walk around after eating and trying to keep them entertained at a table.

My husband and I chose Foxtail on the Lake for our five-year wedding anniversary because we wanted…read morewhat we hoped would be one of the most memorable and romantic dining experiences in the area. We intentionally made this our "no budget" celebration, expecting exceptional food, service, and hospitality. Instead, it turned into one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've ever had. Our reservation was for 7:00 p.m. on July 2, and despite having a reservation, we waited more than 20 minutes to be seated. During that time, we watched people walk in, greet someone they appeared to know, and be seated immediately at the bar while we continued to wait. My husband had gone out of his way to ensure our anniversary would be acknowledged. He noted on the reservation that it was our five-year anniversary, called ahead before our dinner to confirm the restaurant was aware, and even checked with the host stand when we arrived. We weren't asking for anything extravagant--just the kind of small acknowledgment that many restaurants happily provide for guests celebrating a milestone. Nothing happened. There was no congratulations, no acknowledgment from our server, no candle with dessert, no handwritten note, nothing. We even ordered dessert ourselves, and it arrived exactly as if it were any ordinary Tuesday night. The service only added to the disappointment. Our server was curt, rarely checked on us despite our ordering two appetizers, two entrées, dessert, and several rounds of drinks, and never made us feel welcomed or cared for. For a restaurant positioning itself as a destination for special occasions, the level of hospitality simply wasn't there. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for it. Considering the price point, we expected much more. Most dishes were surprisingly bland and underseasoned, and nothing we ordered stood out as memorable. At the end of the evening, my husband politely mentioned everything to the host stand. The response was essentially that our anniversary "must have gotten lost in communication," followed by an offer of a dessert to take home. By that point, the moment had already passed. A boxed dessert cannot replace a once-in-a-lifetime celebration that was overlooked from start to finish. No manager came over to speak with us, no one took ownership of the experience, and there was no meaningful attempt to make things right. This wasn't just dinner--it was our fifth wedding anniversary, a milestone we'll never get to celebrate again. We chose Foxtail because we trusted it would deliver an exceptional experience worthy of the occasion. Instead, we left feeling ignored, disappointed, and wondering why we spent so much money on an evening that felt like an afterthought. If you're looking for a restaurant to celebrate an anniversary, proposal, birthday, or other meaningful milestone, I cannot recommend Foxtail on the Lake based on our experience. There are too many restaurants that understand hospitality and know how to make guests feel special. Sadly, this wasn't one of them.

I'm a big fan of this concept with comfortable seating in a spacious restaurant, plenty of parking,…read moregreat presentation, friendly service, and attractive decor. Compared to similar restaurants in this space, I prefer to go here with friends for its generally quieter atmosphere and overall vibe. Maybe the biggest complaint here is that the food preparation can be a bit inconsistent between dishes, and between different meat types. That is, that the output can range from delicious to somewhat average (and sometimes overcooked), depending on what you order. For example the birria was super flavorful and served with very crisp tacos and a delicious consomme, but the cilantro-lime rice and refried beans felt like an afterthought. The smoked pork belly quesadillas had a great flavor and just about the right amount of fattiness that was short of perfection due to the pork being overcooked. The tres leches cake also had a great creaminess and flavor to it, but parts of the cake weren't really soaked in the milk at all, which created an inconsistent experience - depending on where I took the bite. On everything I tried though, the presentation was excellent and there were enough great things about each dish to overcome some of the shortfalls. Overall though, I feel with improved execution on ensuring that all elements of the dishes are equally good in terms of texture and flavor -- there's a lot to love about Ancho & Agave. But even in its current state, it's still an enjoyable spot to take a group of friends for tasty food in an impressive looking spot.

We had the absolute RUDEST experience with someone checking us in for a lunch reservation. We had a…read more12:30 reservation- walked in around 12:32. When we told our name for our reservation we were told it was going to be about 10 more minutes- even though the restaurant was half full. I was super confused because the entire bar was open and there were at least 10-12 open tables. The person checking us in goes "what you've never had that happen before?" - referring to having to wait for a table - SO incredibly off-putting and condescending. I told her she was being rude and she got defensive and giving us all these excuses- that the kitchen was backed up, etc. We immediately walked out. We were fine with the waiting but the way this employee handled things was insane. The way this should have been handled, and how it's handled in hundreds of other restaurants we've been to is: offer to sit us at the bar or ask if we want to get seated and then tell us there's a back up. or even say "I'm so sorry" Like at least show SOME hospitality. I emailed the location to say all of the above, and they did offer to send us something in the mail, but I will not be accepting. There are so many businesses in this area, go somewhere else that appreciates you as a customer.
