Original has a decent online ordering system--I'm able to order and specify things like 'no sugar please' or 'please use avocado oil' and 'extra veggies' and 'extra protein' and as many stars as I feel I can handle to cause as much personal pain as I'd like. They happily oblige. I hate people :) so I prefer to have food delivered 9 times out of 10 when we choose not to make our own meal. But Original doesn't have delivery. This restaurant is located in a small strip mall with a gas station on the corner of Vista Blvd and Baring Blvd. This used to be a burger joint. My daughter and I decided we wanted to get Thai food. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai, my favorite. My daughter ordered a curry dish. I love the spices like lemon grass, tamarind and kefir lime leaves that are used so much in Thai food. My shrimp was cooked perfectly. My Pad Thai was a little sweeter than I am used to. My daughter said her curry was yummy and the right amount of heat. Portions were large and we took home leftovers. My go to Thai restaurant! I've been coming here for years, honestly since they've opened. It is local and family owned. The gentleman that works upfront is always so sweet, even through the telephone when taking orders. You can also order online through the website. Me and my bf order the same 2 entrees every time.. the larb is a 10/10, we've always ordered the ground pork and we probably won't ever change it. I love the way they cook it with red onions, basil and mint. And who doesn't love lettuce wraps?! My personal favorite is the garlic pepper chicken, I've been ordering this entree since I was little so it has always stuck with me. But the way OG Thai makes it, it is the best I've ever tasted. And I love that they add cucumber and tomatoes. Everything is fairly priced and the entrees are portioned enough for 2 people and a child. The place is not big but the tables are spaced out nicely. Nice Thai place , it's right in front of a gas station on the corner of baring and vista. By right in front I don't mean across the street. It's next door the gas station's store. Their food was flavorful , we order pork fried rice,beef pad see ew, and chicken pad Thai. Everything was great, however the pad Thai had an off smell , I thought I might be from the sauces used. But then I tried the chicken, which sort of tasted sour,I don't know how to describe it. It just tasted a little weird. The pad Thai itself was really good , well seasoned saucy enough. I'll most likely order it with different meat or just veggies next time. Their food besides the chicken was great . Their Thai iced tea is amazing, perfect tea to creamer ratio. Great pickup situation, parked in the gas station parking lot right out front in one of the the numbered spots, with delivery to your car! Satay was excellent, but the Tom Ka with noodles is innovative and delicious. That would be a great lunch on its own. Pad Thai was tasty as was yellow curry. Thai iced tea comes in a xl which is a plus for my teenager, it was good, too sweet for me, but they all are! All in all, a great dinner with incredible leftovers. Worth a try for sure. read more

The best Thai food I've ever had! We ordered C1 Crispy Pork Belly and Green Beans, Spicy Basil Chicken, and Panang Curry with Chicken all to go. The pork was tender and cooked with the green beans in a flavorful broth-y sauce. The Panama Curry smelled intensely of fresh herbs and spices, especially Lemongrass, it was heavenly! I ordered Medium spicy and it was spicier than I expected, so I would order one level below what you're used to ordering. The Spicy Basil Chicken was my least favorite of the 3. The sauce was a bit watery I think from the mushrooms and onions, and as a result not as flavorful. The other 2 dishes really blew me away so still 5 stars! Service was friendly and professional. I believe the Chef/Owner greeted me with my order and rang me up. She was wearing a clean black chefs coat with her hair in a neat bun. I believe that cleanliness and professionalism is an attitude and if you have it you exercise it in all aspects. Review #242 - 2018 After our average experience at Thai Lotus, I was kind of skeptical about trying another Thai place; but my older brother and his family make it kind of hard to take them anywhere that they aren't open to so I decided to go against my better judgement and come in any way. We showed up about 10 minutes before opening so we were kind of talking amongst ourselves about not setting such a high expectation since this place took over a fast food drive-thru restaurant. I mean, we were pretty much judging a book by its cover. We walked in at 11 AM & were greeted by Jenny, the owner, who apologized that her server had not arrived to work yet. We were ok with having our orders taken by the owner. My 13-year old niece got an order of the moo ping (grilled pork skewers) which comes with a side of sticky rice. She seemed to really enjoy it, until she got too full & tried to offer us a bite. Unfortunately, we were all too busy stuffing our faces to try her dish. LOL My sister-in-law decided on a bowl of the Thai beef pho, which I didn't get a photo of, but she said it was pretty good. She and her daughter shared the bowl because it was pretty big. She was sorely disappointed when she saw our food show up because she had to keep eating just a bowl of pho, while we feasted on everything else. My older brother, was going to order the moo dang noodle soup, but decided to change his mind and got the tom yum soup instead when he heard my orders. He said his tom yum soup was exactly how he'd order it in Thailand. I was only planning to order two dishes and two orders of sticky rice, enough food to share with my other brother and our 9-year old niece and the baby. Well, that plan fell through when my 1st brother said he wanted some of our food too. Then his daughter jumped on that bandwagon and I had to order four dishes and four additional orders of sticky rice. For once, I'm actually glad that they decided to mess up my plan because I got to try all the great Issan style dishes that they offer here. The Issan sausages were on point. Jenny told us that she makes them in-house. I liked them so much that I ordered 3 uncooked orders to take back home. Yep! That good!!! My brothers are already making plans for me to bake them and take them to share with them on Friday night. The Issan papaya salad was also good; although a little salty, but still went very well with the fresh veggies. It also comes with a side of sticky rice. The laab beef was well flavored; just a little too finely minced for my personal liking. I like to chew my meat, but that didn't stop me from enjoying every bite. The basil crispy pork belly was so good! It's served a side of rice so we opted for jasmine rice since we had plenty of sticky rice already. Unfortunately, we had way too much food so we had to take this order home. My son killed it when I got home! As if we didn't already have too much food, my brother told me he wanted to try the sweet rice with mango and I added a scoop of house-made coconut ice cream. So good!!! From the first step in through the door I was greeted by one of the owners who really is prompt in getting you seated but also greets you and even gets to know you. He asked how I'm doing, how's my day things like that, the little things some people don't appreciate now a days but after being seated I was greeted and asked if I would like a drink. Now they offer a vast majority of things to drink like Soda, Water and Teas. My favorite go to drink there is the Ginger Tea. Oh my gosh the Ginger tea is so good especially if you pair it with a spicy dish. Now after i looked over the menu, i received such a beautiful looking dish and that was the eggrolls i ordered. They come with a plum sauce which kinda surprised me with the taste but the Eggrolls are so delicious they could be a dinner plate by itself. But when I finally got my dish it was made fresh, you can smell the fresh ingredients like the basil in the dish, with that and the mushrooms it's an amazing dish to order. Now I've had this dish many different ways like a lvl 2 spicy to a lvl 5 spicy and the 2 was pretty good kick to it and the 5 was even better, but the 5 was so much more enjoyable with the peppers dish the waiter brought out to me. They crush the fresh peppers there and everything is prepared in house which makes the experience so much better. Other items that I've also tried there is the avocado spring rolls and the Shrimp Springrolls and those too are made to order with fresh vegetables and is served with a peanut sauce that's heaven in a cup, I'd eat it all by itself. It's also good to mix a little sriracha sauce in it too, that's a little kick in the mouth too. Now onto the last and final experience there in my visit, Dessert was a shocker to me! I ordered the Tapioca pudding, it wasn't how I pictured it. I'm use to the white bubbles like textures but this one was served hot, and a greenish color an with white stripes on yumminess an also has Coconut meat inside it as well. Was a weird taste? We needed to feed a party of 30 for a last minute birthday party. I called to see if they had catering services. They invited me in to meet and plan the menu. They were very helpful in choosing a variety of dishes and flavors and were able to accommodate us on the same day. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. For catered dishes they leave the spices on the side so each individual can customize. The food was hot and ready when we needed it. In particular I loved the green curry and mango with sticky rice. My husband was in the mood for Thai and said he had heard great things about this place. He was right. We arrived around 2 in the afternoon on a Thursday and I was a bit apprehensive, first it is directly next door to a gas station and second, it was absolutely empty. When our food came I must say I was quite impressed. The portion size was large and my dish came with a cucumber salad and an egg roll. And every bit of it was delicious. The Pad Thai was extremely flavorful and I love that they use a tamarind sauce as then I don't taste the fish sauce that is found in a lot of Pad Thai dishes. The Red curry was really good too. I usually prefer a green curry but since it wasn't my lunch, I can't be too picky. Very flavorful and tasted quite good. The egg roll was packed full of flavor and was nice as crunchy. All in all and excellent quick service Thai joint. My only disappointment is how far away it is from where we live. I've always been apprehensive to try this place since it's next to a gas station, but I was looking for something quick and easy within a close distance of my house and I stumbled upon their favorable reviews. I took a seat to wait for my food and could see people getting busy on my order in the semi-open kitchen space. After a few minutes, my order came out hot and ready. Once I got home, I excited dug into the fresh spiced pad see ew. It had a generous amount of veggies and chicken and the seasoning was spot on. The outer bean curd on the hoy jor was a little over cooked to me, but the meat mixture inside was absolutely delicious and the sauce complimented it perfectly. Overall I was really excited to find this hidden gem in my neighborhood and will definitely be visiting more frequently to get my Thai fix. Found this place using Yelp about 3 years ago and I'm sure glad we did. Anytime we are visiting from California we slide through to this spot. The food is super fresh and made to the order. They have genuine Thai flavors and dishes being cooke by Thai people. If you like real Thai food and good customer service come here. With it being connected to a gas station it looks kinda sketchy, but the people here are nice and are quick to serve you. My wife is Cambodian and we eat all sorts of Asian food and this is one of her favorites. Take some time to come visit if you are in Reno. read more
