The staff is busy but they always make time for you by phone or in person. They also are honest, upfront, patient, and professional. I even felt safe enough to let my daughter learn how to adult and take care of her car here without getting taken advantage of. Think about that for a second. I called on Wednesday 1/10 to get a tune up and brake inspection on my truck. I was told to drop it off on Thursday morning, 1/11 and they would look at it. I called Thursday late afternoon and they hadn't looked at it and hadn't called to give me an update/ They said first thing on Friday morning 1/12. I called on Friday morning and they hadn't looked at it but would get right to it. I called Friday late afternoon and still hadn't even looked at it. They didn't call with an update and clearly didn't care about what an inconvenience this was to me. I spoke with Kathy who is the owner and expressed my dissatisfaction, especially with the lack of follow-up and no phone update. I stopped by this mechanic shop about two weeks ago, spoke to Maureen (who seemed really knowledgeable and trustworthy), made an appointment for an oil change/maintenance. I specifically asked how long this would take and she assured me that before 5pm everything would be done unless they found a major issue. This morning I dropped off my car at 9 and didn't hear anything back all day. Finally at 5:30 pm I called them for an update and they told me that they hadn't even gotten to my car and would see if they could fit it in. I had an appointment, dropped off my car, waited 8.5 hours, and I had to call to find this out. I have never been more disappointed in how a business runs. The man on the phone did not at all appear to care that they had wasted the entire day and didn't even bother to tell me to reschedule. The level of unprofessionalism in how this was conducted is unmatched. So if you want someone reliable and professional, please keep looking! read more

I did few repairs with this shop. Couple of times they could not finish brake pads replacement in a single day ... (for those who doesn't know , it takes about 15 min, if you unskilled like me ). Last time they managed to charge me 900$ for pads and rotors on Toyota ... I had other issues with this shop, In my opinion they are simply dishonest. So I came here due to a slight emergency. Went to another local shop to get my tires replaced after a flat. After driving my car around the tire pressure monitor read that one of my tire only had 14psi! It was after 7pm on Friday and they were still finishing off their work. I came in, told them what happened, and Dan, didn't hesitate to stop what he was doing to help me out. Again, Friday night, 7pm. He didn't care and just wanted to make sure that he could service the car to make sure that I was ready to go. Communicating with him was so easy, no hassle and I could tell he was a sincere type of guy. After he checked the wheels to make sure that all was good, he also noticed that the previous shop didn't sync the tires, which is why the tire that I saw that was low was actually in a different position! Geez! I went to pay and met Kathy. She was not only informative, but had true integrity. After hearing what went on, she was actually feeling a little guilty that the job was not fully finished. Why? Because they still didn't know the root cause to the low pressure. After a great chat about cars and some common experiences, I really felt like the team here is a bunch of really sincere and honest people that just want to do a good job for you. While I don't know what will come of my discussion with the other auto shop regarding their mistake, all I know is that it's highly likely I'd come back to the Shell auto care team in the future at some point! read more

I've been coming to see Kathy and Joey for all my car repair and maintenance needs ever since I moved to Orinda in 2009. They're honest and easy to work with. I've never felt like they were trying to rip me off and they've even done some of the small things for me for free. How wonderful is that!! I've taken my 2 Honda Pilots, BMW 318i, Acura CL, BMW 740, Toyota Camry and Mercedes S550 here so I trust her with all my cars, luxury or otherwise. If there's a problem they can't fix, they will go out of their way to find someone who can and will do it for a reasonable price. My car wouldn't start. Luckily, I was stranded right at the pump next to Shell Auto Care. My toddler was asleep in the back and I didn't know what to do. I went into Shell Auto Care and Kathy came over, got my car started, drove it over to the Auto Care garage, read the error codes for me with her machine, wrote them down for me and explained what they meant, then poured something into my tank to address the problem (which is with the fuel injector) and told me to bring the car in early next business day so they could take a closer look at it with their better diagnostic machine. She didn't charge me for any of this--never once mentioned money. The whole event felt like a good neighbor helping a friend. The bottle she poured into my fuel tank was worth about $17, so I gave her $20 and thanked her profusely. I should have paid for labor too, but I didn't mention it and nobody blinked twice and instead they are earning my eternal gratitude and this Yelp review. My toddler didn't wake up until I started driving home. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you so much! read more

Their prices are very reasonable, and they offer a range of solutions when appropriate. Kathy is very good at finding out what you really need and want. I have had Kathy and Joey and crew work on my cars for many years. I love that they go out of their way to save me money. I had a window on the passenger side that would not stay closed. It is a 16 yr. old car and I rarely have a passenger so I just wanted it to stay closed. Instead of charging me a lot of money to repair it Joey just disconnected it in the up position so it would not move anymore. It has worked fine this way. I also drive from Concord so they are always willing to do the minor stuff while I wait so I don't have to figure out how to come and go. But they are by a Bart station so that helps. While I was in Oregon a light went on and I called Kathy to have her check to make sure it was safe to drive home. The local mechanic wanted to fix stuff that did not need to be fixed. Honest people. Kathy and Joey are straight up mechanics who don't try and jerk you around. As previous raters have stated, instead of going for a big markup, they suggest less expensive ways to go about fixing your car, and also if you have the time, they'll shop around to get the best value on tires or what have you. They do smog while you wait. Ive waited a long time to write this. i came here on recommendation of a coworker. I worked up the hill, so it was super convenient and I truly felt that kathy was giving me the best value for a new tire and a new rim. I took it to her in the morning and it was ready by 5pm that evening. A brunette woman put my tire on as i watched, and having apprenticed in an auto shop, i asked her to please double check that the lug nuts were tight. I truly didnt mean it as an insult, but i could see that it was taken as one. She told me she was confident theyd been tightened as shed just tightened them herself. Ok. I drove away after thanking them and paying. 2 miles away, at 70 miles per hour, i noticed an extreme wobble. I pulled over, tried to remove my hub cap so i could tighten the lug nuts, but couldnt remove the hub cap because one of the lug nuts was askew in such a way that i could neither tighten it or get it off. I called kathy immediately, the brunette answered, i told her my tire had almost fallen off at highway speeds and that i believed it was due to the lug nuts not being tightened. She got defensive and agitated, told me she knew they were tight, and put kathy on the phone. I asked kathy if she could have someone meet me to fix it, she didnt think it was possible. I had to call AAA who took 1.5 hours. They had to snap my hub cap in half to get it off in order to access the lug nuts. Only one lug nut was sufficiently tight. I could have wrecked due to the tire not being put on properly. If the tire had come off, it could have caused an accident, or worse, gotten me killed or hurt another driver. The two stars are for kathy, who was kind and did her best, otherwise i would not give a single star due to the fact that my safety was put at extreme risk due to one person's pride. There was no resolution. Everyone makes mistakes, i totally get that, but some mistakes are worse than others. read more
