Any time we are passing within 15-20 mins of this place, we attempt to make it on our route. We live clear on the other side of town, so it's definitely not close. A little background: we are very familiar with Hawaiian food having grown up with it and we go back to the islands every year. We also have a sushi chef of many years in the family. We have had garlic chicken all over Hawai'i, from upscale to hole in the wall spots, and when I tell you this is the best we've ever had that's saying a LOT. In the corner of a small shopping center/strip mall, it is not much from the outside, or inside really. But, show up early for dinner as it will get packed. The service and food are great! Quite a diverse menu, from sushi, to Korean, to Hawaiian. The Kalbi ribs were amazing and we had a nice variety or nigiri and sashimi. The only issue is the limitations for kids. We walked in and it was not very busy, I was nervous our meal wasn't going to LOVE up to the memory... service was quick and pleasant. My husband got the spicy chicken plate and thoroughly enjoyed it. I stole a nibble of the mac salad - still the best Mac salad I think I've ever had! Garlicy and creamy... so good! I got the chirashi lunch for $22. You guys... this was the greatest chirashi bowl I've ever had. LOADED with quality fish - at least 8 types including buttery hamachi, fabulous salmon, and two items I've never had in a chirashi bowl before (guess I've gone to the wrong places until now!): shrimp and octopus. The rice was excellent, hiding underneath all the luscious fish, with pickled mushrooms and... bamboo? Next time I need a sushi fix, this is my place. It should be yours, too! What a hidden gem in Littleton where the owner of this place has nailed it to perfection! Families can come here and meet every single need. I saw a table receive some kind of awesome looking nacho plate and keep in mind this is a super tasty sushi place. You can take kids and find something they will eat also, yum! The wait for our food was very reasonable, despite the volume of customers they had that evening. While the service was definitely a positive, the food quality here was only around average. The fish slices were of decent size, but the rice was proportionally too little. Additionally, I found it odd that they were serving coconut cake, a southern food, in a Japanese restaurant. I'm not sure about the Japanese food or the sushi, but this was one of the worst tonkatsu I've ever had. The pork was super dry, the breading was not panko, and it was overall tough and salty. We didn't think their lunch prices applied on the weekend, but to our surprise, it did! SCORE. We ordered udon ( not pictured), teriyaki chicken and the pork katsu along with a healthy spread of sushi. Everything exceeded our expectations. The sushi was fresh and the lunch entrees were pretty good. Katsu had a good crunch and dipping sauce. I enjoyed the teriyaki a little more. The udon looked like a good compliment to a side of sushi. Disappointing. The service was slow and inattentive. We ordered Edamame and Egg Rolls for appetizers. The Egg Rolls came last. We had a Rainbow Roll and a Salmon and Avocado roll. The salmon/avocado roll was tiny, and the Rainbow roll was small. Later while waiting for the Lee's Paradise Roll that took forever, we ordered another Rainbow roll, which was huge the second time. When the Egg Roll appetizer finally came last, it was very bland. The decor was as bland as the food, not offensive, but not interesting, inviting, or especially comfortable. We arrived just before 8 o'clock , the place our initial order by 815 and then before we received our food we were told it was the last call for the kitchen just after 8:30 , shortly there after the kitchen started breaking down rather aggressively even though their hours of operation said they'd be open until nine.. They were slamming dishes while they were cleaning, actively taking down the fresh food. we were sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was vigorously, spraying Windex and disinfectant on either side of us while we were eating. Wow, very pleased with my experience at Iwayama. I travel a lot and try sushi in different cities. Obviously it is hit and miss so going here with no expectation other than reviews from Yelp. The place is in a quaint strip mall on the outskirts of Littleton, CO. It has a feel of a little sushi restaurant that I am accustomed. There is a sushi bar and plenty of tables for 2-4 people. Place was busy but we were seated quickly. Server was great. She was very helpful and prompt. As for the food, it was very good. I can always tell if I will have a good sushi experience by the Miso soup. It was really good as I had 2 bowls. It wasn't the best sushi grade I had but very good. The cucumber salad was yummy, the sashimi was proper temperature and sizing, the rolls were proper size and catered to less rice than normal. Everything was very tasty. Highly recommend. read more
