First time here, 6:00 PM on a Thursday. Only 2 diners inside. Giving this neighborhood cafe 4* for the service and cleanliness of the restaurant. But 3* for the food, but let me explain. I appreciate the simplicity of the menu and they have been able to keep the prices quite reasonable and generous portions. I sat in the little 2 seater window table, so I could watch the world on go by on 16th street. I ordered the Bacon, Avocado, Cheese burger, well done. I must say it was quite "huge & appetizing looking" when it arrived. And proved very messy to eat, probably because of the size. Everything was slipping out and off the burger. Thank goodness for forks. As others have said, VERY generous order of fries to go with for $16.99 Though at 1st bite, something really seemed off about the flavor. The burger was cooked perfectly "for me", but the bacon (come to find out is beef) was burned and crumbly. They must have put a 1/2 Avocado on the burger, which was nice, but so many slices, they too were falling out and off the burger. Half way through, I did a bigger dive into the ingredients under the bun. I think the issue "is the bun" and the sauce. A Brioche bun is not the best choice for a burger as large as this, too soft. And all the "special mayo" on both sides of the bun, made the bun soggy. Very difficult to discern the actual beef patty w/o removing some of the fixins. I ended up bringing half my meal home. Only to reconstruct it for a different meal at home. I had the other half today and the meat was still off "in texture". Very mushy, akin to an undercooked meatloaf and again, no flavor. Not sure what the beef is/was made of or how it's cooked "fried, grilled" but so very odd. Not sure I would return just for the service and cleanliness. I do wish them well though. read more

We live in the neighborhood and finally had a chance to try this diner. For lunch, we had a bacon cheeseburger and a fried fish sandwich. Huge servings! Fish was very flakey, and the batter coating nicely done, not greasy and delicately crisp. The restaurant is halal, like a few others along this strip of 16th, so the bacon is beef. Not the greatest, to be honest, but the burger itself was solid. Both sandwiches came with huge pile of skinny fries, which were hot and crisp. It's a relatively simple but well thought out menu, which fits the low-key, friendly feel of the place. Quiet and comfortable, very clean. No alcohol and, strangely, no iced tea. Virgin cocktails though! It's a small place and on a Wednesday mid-day, not crowded, with a couple of other tables full besides ours. Service was discrete yet friendly and responsive. A good neighborhood restaurant. We'd like to come back and try their breakfast, and will update then. Though perhaps not a menu to go out your way for, definitely recommended if you're in the area or want a place you can relax and read a book or if you need a chill place to meet someone. read more

Love this spot on 16th. I do also enjoy that their menu isn't over filled with too many options. It's simple and has all your basics that you'll need. The prices are also very great, especially for the portions that they are providing you. I went in on a slower day. No one in the restaurant. I opened the door and was greeted and set at my seat immediately. I was handed a menu and placed my order. The restaurant was clean and the staff were kind. I ordered the burger and fries and a Coke. I've lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and have seen many businesses come and go. This used to be a yummy bagel shop that closed during the pandemic, and it now 16th Street Diner. I was genuinely impressed with this place, and now visit often. The staff are so sweet and hospitable. Always willing to make your experience better if you request for something or just want to have small talk. The food is good, solid portions, and so reasonably priced. The place is a bit small. Is it the best breakfast food I've ever had? No. But they offer well-done classics at (very) reasonable prices and with exceptional service. It's hard to ask for more. So far I've reviewed 30 cafes & their avocado toast. This diner is without a doubt in the top 3. Two slices of bread that's actually toasted! A generous portion of creamy, ripe avocado on both slices, topped with cherry tomatoes & chili flakes. I added a fried egg, made to order, with a side of beef bacon which was thick and chewy. Did you catch that? Two slices of bread! $10.99. I've paid anywhere from $7.99 to $20 for one slice of bread with varying amounts of avocado. For San Francisco, you're getting value for your $$. I love going to late night diners for dinner. Tucked away on 16th close to Pakwan, this place is well-lit and clean. We ordered the fettuccine aglio e olio, the fried chicken burger, and a mocktail. The burger was simply scrumptious. The fried chicken reminded me very strongly of an old burger joint I used to frequent in college whose taste I've been trying to find since I graduated. It really hit the spot! It definitely is one of those burgers you need to eat in one shot, though, it's a pretty beefy boi (not literally). The fettuccine was just okay, but very light. The light meal was just what I needed tonight, though I will take up the offer of parm next time. The mocktail was delicious! Our bill came out to $38 before tip, and our meal included free bread! Honestly pretty good! The inside is very clean and cute and the staff were nice and attentive. The food itself was not too bad either, the omelet was cooked nicely and quite cheesy. The Potatoes had peppers and onions to add some flavor (and nutrients) and the fruit salad was a nice combination too. This place is perfectly fine. The food is fine. The service is fine. It's clean. It's just *not* a Diner. It's not an Indian/Pakistani restaurant either. It is somewhere in between. Excellent halal food! The one and only halal diner in the SF Bay Area. Super super super steak and eggs. Eggs done perfectly, super delicious potatoes, and I think the steak speaks for itself! Best thing, all of their chicken and meat is hand slaughtered halal (if that's your preference). Don't sleep on this place, it's a gem. Love the service! The waiter is very sweet and accommodating. I have a tomato allergy and he made sure to check everything including the achar to make sure they didn't have tomatoes. But more importantly the food was AMAZING!!! It came with a nice little appetizer (which to be clear, was also delicious.) then they brought out the main meal which was a Caesar salad and fish and chips. The ambiance was pretty casual, so I wouldn't recommend showing up here wearing your "finest clothes" or anything like that. The food could be served at a fancy restaurant and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference though . Overall this place is amazing, I highly recommend coming here with or without kids of any age.
