A girlfriend recommended Arbor as a girls night for us. Neither of us being incredibly hungry decided on Falafel Hummus plate to share. If we were hungry we could always order more. With a bottle of wine from next door - Arlequin Wine - and our hummus plate, we made out to the outdoor patio. The patio is spacious and well kept with plenty of seating and enough space between tables conversations can be had privately. The Seeded Falafel and Hummus Bowl ($18) was truly satisfying for us both. The four crunchy falafel balls (think golf sized), freshly sliced cucumbers, grilled red bell pepper accompanied by roasted zucchini and yellow squash with a creamy, flavorful hummus made for a meal on its own. Between the both of us, the dish was incredibly delicious along with a bottle of red. Neither of us left hungry or wanting more. We began our lunch meet around 3:30p and did not depart until about 7p-ish. The staff was incredibly accommodating, friendly and assisted with carrying our dish to the selected table. I went here twice this weekend with two different friends. Everything was great! The staff is fantastic and willing to go the extra mile. Pricing is reasonable with large portions. I prefer the casual counter style (taqueria style) where you pay when you order, and you don't have to wait for someone to bring you a check. No need to worry about making a reservation, just enjoy your life and follow your bliss. We have enough appointments in our lives, right? The food is delicious, healthy, and full of flavor. Great for vegetarians and gluten-free folks. The seasonal menu is wonderful. A few months ago, I enjoyed the winter salad with persimmon and hazelnuts. Had to order to go tonight and honestly, the food hit. The fish filet sandwich was delicious, had a good crunch and it was tender, with great flavor. The real standout for me though was the mac & cheese packed with flavor, rich and comforting. Kisses to the chef. The curly fries were well seasoned and very tasty definitely enjoyable and satisfying. The burger, on the other hand, was the only letdown for me. It was a bit bland and leaned salty and could've used more seasoning or sauce to really bring it together. It just needed a little more love compared to the rest of the food. Really love the no-fuss approach of ordering at the counter, but still getting a nice ambiance that is far from fast food. Mac & Cheese: Wanted a light, but indulgent, lunch and this hit the spot. Comes out on a hot iron skillet in a thin later of mac with tons of cheese gratinéed on top. Seemed like high quality cheese too, since it had a complex flavor profile. Fried Chicken Sandwich: Seemed to be one of the most popular items here. Must have been made from scratch to order, since the batter was so crispy and fresh, it couldn't have been re-fried. Seems to be a long and thin chicken thigh. Not that flavorful in the solo bites sticking outside the sandwich, but delicious with sauces and slaw. The sauce had a nice spicy tang to it. Curly Fries: Such a fun and nostalgic side. I especially like the tight coils, which have the best texture. Nice spices on the outside. Been here a few times now. Arlequin wine merchants is attached on the side where we got our bottle of orange wine. They have good recs, but there is a $10 corkage fee (which I think they waive on Mondays). The outdoor patio is the biggest selling point here, with lovely trees overlooking the tables and providing some nice shade dappled with sunshine. The burger is a bit on the pinker side, so I'd recommend well done if that's something you care about. The curly fries and Mac n cheese were my favorite, with the Mac being a bit smokier. Casual dining spot. Order at the counter and head back to the picturesque backyard and grab a table (or sit inside. I got the Arbor cheeseburger with curly fries and they were both very good. Pics of the menu on Yelp show that the cheeseburger didn't used to include bacon, but it does now! The burger also has lettuce, pickles (I got on the side), sherry-chili onions and Arbor sauce (kind of like thousand Island). I can't say enough about the patio. Stopped on our way to a Sketchfest show. There was a bit of a line to order, but it went quickly. I ordered the falafel burger and a beer. The burger was excellent - perfect crunch on the outside, moist inside. Plenty of toppings. It was a bit messy, though, and I ended up using my fork. Arbor is comfort food done well with the cutest patio you'll find anywhere. String lights and heaters and amazing electric lanterns in the landscape mean this patio - which we visited during the day - must be lovely in the evening too. I enjoyed my Baked Mac N Cheese which was so good with its rich Cheddar Pimenton Sauce. Its finish in the broiler seriously activated the perfectly crunchy breadcrumb topping but wow that cast iron skillet was really hot when the server brought the dish to our table. My wife's beautiful fried Fish Fillet Sandwich looked good but wasn't quite as tasty as it was pretty. The fish maybe tasted a little funky and oddly sweet. I think next time she'll pivot to the similarly appointed fried chicken sandwich instead. I've been both a regular dine-in customer and frequent take-out patron here so much that one of the staff even knew me by name. Unfortunately, over time I've noticed a decline in food quality, customer service, and portion sizes. For a long while, the staff were warm and friendly, but something changed. Awesome back patio, it gets packed on a sunny day, but the inside is nice as well. Great wine selection obviously, being connected to the wine shop, and they do have happy hour certain days. We weren't there on one of those days unfortunately! Order at the front and they will deliver the food as it is made. The menu is great, interesting flavors and feels pretty healthy with something for everyone. Believe they change up the menu items/ingredients a bit seasonally. I absolutely loved the grilled shrimp bowl and could probably eat that every day. My partner got the falafel bowl, and we shared a side of fried chicken. You know, for the protein! We enjoyed everything we ate and would definitely come back for food and wine. It did take a while for the food to all come out though and we were getting a little nervous as we had to head to the theater. Hence no pic of chicken - we ate it quickly. And since it is delivered as it is made, I had pretty much finished my food by the time my partner's dish came out, and I'm a pretty slow eater. But everything is hot and fresh! I work in the Civic Center Area and Arbor is one of my favorite spots for lunch. Arbor is a casual dining restaurant, as you order at the counter and food is delivered to your table or you can order takeout. Their outdoor area is really lovely, with lots of greenery and bistro tables. This is a great place for lunch when the weather is nice in SF. To me, it feels like an oasis in the middle of a long workday. The menu is thoughtful and food is quite good. My favorite dish is the Grilled Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp salad, with shrimp, kale, arugula, fennel, butter bean purée, roasted mushrooms, grapes, and a lemon vinaigrette. The salad is satisfying, flavorful, and perfectly dressed. I've had a couple of the other salads and tried the seasoned curly fries too (yum!), but I keep coming back to this salad time and again. The last time I came to visit, my friend had the burger and fries which she really seemed to enjoy. Another thing I appreciate about Arbor (as someone who is dairy intolerant) is that they have dairy-free soft serve ice cream options for dessert! There are many heaters, though not quite one heater per table. There's also a public parklet outside the restaurant where anyone can sit, even if you don't order anything. If you are sitting in the garden, you can order and pay on your phone by scanning the QR code. They have carafes available with water, self-serve. You order at the counter if you are sitting inside. Relaxed, cozy, casual atmosphere where you can feel comfortable sitting and chatting and not worry about needing to give up your table. Great wine selection as well. The food was good! I got the chili cheese curly fries. They were surprisingly crunchy, which curly fries often aren't. Despite being a "small plate" it was a very large portion, definitely enough to share. I was recommended to try this spot a few months ago by an old colleague. I am glad I finally decided to try! Immediately when I walked in I was greeted by a nice staff member and once I ordered the food came out super quick. I loved the ambiance the restaurant had, especially the back outdoor space. It was very open and I recommend sitting here if you're with a group of people and want to enjoy the nice weather sf has to offer. The fish sandwich was pretty good I give it a 4/5. I recommend getting a side of tartar sauce for the sandwich as it needed a little more flavor but I will say it was fried very well. Other than that the curly fries made up for it!
