We picked out some tasty cheese from Orrman's, and I grabbed a Niçoise salad to go. Of course, they have a great selection of cheeses, but also some fun specialty pantry items as well like tinned fish and artisan chocolate. The service was great. We will be back to try the sandwiches!
Heaven. I could just end it there but since this is a review site I guess I should elaborate. I love cheese but thought this was just like a cheese stall. How wrong I was. Yes, it is a cheese stall and you can absolutely buy delicious gourmet cheeses here. They also have cheese tasting and food items. The charcuterie was amazing! We ordered a bottle of wine from the stall next door and noticed that they took into account the type of wine we had so they could better pair our items with it. Each thing on the board was wonderful. I can't wait to come back and do this again.
As a rule of thumb i dont leave charlotte without stopping at Orrmans first. Absolutely the finest quality imported and domestic meats and cheese. Every staff member is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and helpful. Small and quiet spot in the back of 7th street market My favorite meats are the serrano ham, Calabrian 3-way, and bresaola. Cheese wise you cannot go wrong with the truffle brie, or kentucky rose
Aesthetic: Classy, bright cheese stand in The Market at 7th Street with a large variety of cheeses, food made to order, sweets, and wine. My Favorites: The grilled cheeses! Experience: There were so many unique cheeses to buy, I wanted to take everything home! I'm going to come prepared to shop next time. My husband got the Raclette grilled cheese, and I tried the Croque Monsieur with tomato soup. I immediately wanted to trade, the grilled cheese was the star! I want to go back for the Raclette nights on Thursday and to get some wine. I highly recommend this spot to any cheese lovers! Thank you for decorating for Pride.
Love the expanded store in 7th Street Market. While I was there I stopped by Orrman's for a few things, including cheese, mortadella, and some other goodies! Customer Service was amazing, and I truly love the variety of items they offer.
This is a great cheese shop at the 7th st market. They have cheeseboards, grilled cheeses, and a few other items on their menu. They also do a raclette night on Thursdays (at least during certain times of the year). There is also a small market area where you can grab things to take with you which I love. Lots of foodie/cheese gifts as well. Everyone who works there seems knowledgeable about the cheeses and pairing them together/providing a variety on the cheeseboards. Definitely recommend a visit to orrmans!
Let me get this out of the way first and foremost: I love cheese. I could eat cheese, fruit and crudités for every meal. But too much of a good thing doesn't appeal to me, and for some odd reason raclette looked like too much of a good thing. I. Was. Wrong. As someone who works uptown I was familiar with Orman's and their excellent grilled cheese sandwiches. My husband cajoled me into making reservations for their raclette event, traditionally Thursday evenings during winter...-another reason I was reluctant to go because once home I don't want to go uptown again. Seemed like a waste of time. Once again... I. Was. Wrong. We turned up early for our reservation and welcomed by a staff who were surprisingly busy; it was nice to see Seventh Street Market active and well. Settling at the bar in front of the pair of raclette machines, we took out time with salads of fresh field greens and chatted with the fromager as he was preparing the heaters and our plates. The thing I like most about Orman's is that the staff appear to genuinely love what they do and the product they sell. They were all happy to answer questions for two newcomers. Then came the raclette itself., heated to bubbly perfection and scraped carefully onto boiled fingerling potatoes. Also on the plate were slices of baguette and several cornichons, all part of the traditional French presentation, along with some locally made mustard. The raclette cheese was relatively mild and made specifically for this dish. (Yes, it's called raclette cheese.) it was hot but edible immediately, and...well, a fellow cheese lover told me it would be like fondue only better, and he was right. I took the first bite of cheese only to try it alone and it was everything I could want in life, gastronomically speaking. I would like to emphasize the importance of savoring this meal. We so often rush through meals, but raclette should be enjoyed slowly, each bite of potato and cheese and cornichon masticated with indulgent pleasure. (Oh yes...you do need to try the tiny pickles with the raclette and potato or baguette because it complements the cheese far more than one might expect.) The Lusty Monk coarse ground mustard with the baguette and bit of raclette was a sincere joy to people like us who love a good mustard; a jar came home with us. I mean...we did pay for it. I was so melancholy when I came to the last bite of raclette and boiled potato, as one might imagine...but my mood was soon brightened by the dessert, included with our event meal: pot de crème au chocolat. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I am not the biggest fan of sweets. Normally I would sample and pass on the rest to my spouse. But not this dessert. Silky smooth and rich, replete with the taste of finé chocolate, the pot was the best dessert I have enjoyed in years. You might assume, and rightfully so, that I give Orman's my full-throated endorsement, but lest my fervor be mistaken for merely a raclette high, let me add that their offerings of cheese and charcuterie are extensive for a smallish shop, yet the staff knows that selection well. Along with that locally made mustard, we purchased some of the Toscana salami from my husband 's meal and two cheeses the clerks recommended. Orman's is a treat, like a little Parisian holiday. Let's make sure they have a long and bountiful future in the Queen City.
Came here to grab a quick bite after hearing great things about Orrman's. I ordered the croque monsieur with greens and my order was ready in under 10 minutes. The sandwich was really good - one of the better versions of this sandwich that I've had! The cheese was piping hot and it had a nice salty flavor. I only wish the sandwich had one more slice of ham, but still I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a nice cheese shop in 7th Street Market, such a variety of cheeses, cured meats, spreads and more. It's a perfect place to grab a charcuterie board of supplies for one to enjoy there or to go. I can't wait to return when I have more time to browse the store.
This place is straight up adorable! It is one of the many charming local vendors located in the 7th Street Market in Uptown. They operate as both a shop and restaurant. You can buy some of their fine cheeses, or if you are looking for a meal you can order one of their delicious grilled cheeses. The small shop has an incredible attention to detail selection some of the finest local cheeses, you can tell they truly care about their products. You may be surprised to learn that they also supply cheeses to some of the most popular restaurants in the Charlotte area. From whole sale to counter service it is clear that they are devoted to cheese! They even hold events dedicated to sampling various cheeses, giving cheesemakers the opportunity to share their craft. These are the types of businesses you love to root for. Something about a grilled cheese is just pure comfort, so if you find yourself hungry and curious, stop by the market and look for the cheese shop at the back. You won't regret it.

On a cool winter day, the grilled cheese and tomato soup from Ormans Cheese Shop hits the spot. We ordered inside (with masks on, of course) and then found lovely seats in the sun on the patio by the light rail. We even had a nice chat with the proprietor while we were out there. They're currently open Thursday - Sunday due to the decrease in traffic weekdays these days, and they need our business to stay alive. So, come in and order your lunch to stay and some cheese to go from their mini store. It will warm you from the inside out!
Recently my cousin celebrated her birthday. She wanted a couple of us to visit her in ATlanta. However, due it being a hot spot of Covid. We all opted to stay put. So I have to think of something to send her. And she alway missing home. So a month ago. She started this love for goat cheese. I have look high and low. But it's sooo expensive to send cheese from different places. $75 just for overnight shipping. I came up with this idea to eMail Orrman's Cheese Shop. Seeing if they are willing to ship 4/5 varieties of goat cheese to Atlanta overnight. And I don't have any budget. Rachel K. Responded almost instantly saying it was no problem. She listed on what she will include in the package. Nice box, wrapped nicely and even attached a note for me.. I can't tell you how grateful I am that they can do this. I didn't have to go there since I was slammed at the salon with appts. Everything was done over emails and all I have to do is type up a note. Later called my cc no# and they handled everything like they said they would.. The box arrive in Atlanta at 2:45 on a Wednesday just as promised.. I love that they willing to take this extra step for me especially during Covid. And honestly. While everybody can charge me $115 to $150. They prices were nothing near that and its locals. Nothing better than supporting your locals and they don't disappoint!
If you're around uptown, do yourself a favor and stop by Orrmans for the most delicious grilled cheese you can imagine. I always order the same thing - the Gouda, mustard and pickle sandwich. It's everything you could want in an adult Mac and cheese. Gooey, creamy, crunchy with a tart bite from the pickles and mustard. Even writing about it makes me want another one. Orrmans also has delicious soup that changes daily, but whatever the soup is, you can't go wrong. My kid loves their Mac and cheese, it's such an elevated version, and so delicious (I always sneak a few bites myself). They also sell cheese and tinned seafood, so this little cheese shop is a bit of heaven in the 7th street market!!
Woohoo! Was a fan of this cheese shop at 7th street station and continuing my fandom for this new location!! Came here on a Saturday afternoon to get some grilled cheeses, scope out the new diggs, and take home some delicious products. The dining room has about 4 tables (3 chairs at each table but realistically for 2 to be comfortable). Looks like the small outdoor seating area had 3 tables (for 2). Walk up to the counter to order or take advantage of their expertise here!! While we were enjoying our grilled cheeses, a couple came in needing a lot of advice for a party they were having later this evening. They went to the right place!! Absolutely no shortage of helpful knowledge and it sounds like they were all set for their plans in the evening. Definitely come check out this location!! Cheese is my kryptonite but if I'm going to partake and indulge, I'll come here to do so. read more
What a fantastic curated selection of cheeses, charcuterie, groceries, and tinned fish, along with wonderfully prepared paninis and other food items. We neglected to bring a wine to complement our lunch, though it sounds like they're working on a liquor license, which would make this an even more perfect spot to enjoy fabulous food, knowledgeable service, and pick up a few favorites to take home. The store and dining areas are a bit small, and I do wish the seating were a little more comfortable, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Well done! read more

I came to this spot just looking for a little snack- and their soup of the day cup is just $4! I got their vegan and gluten free mushroom soup (which normally wouldn't be my first choice I'll admit!) but I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious mushroom flavor even though the soup was puréed. The staff were super nice and I would love to come back and try a cheese and meat board! read more

Raclette Night... if you haven't been you need to give it a try. Raclette Night is every Thursday and you can use the yelp deal for it. The Raclette plate is $10. For an additional price you can add charcuterie, lettuce salad and mustard. The Raclette plate comes with baguettes, roasted potatoes and cornichons (little pickles). The cheese was sooo good. It was creamy and warmed up to perfection. The warming of the cheese was a cool process. They place the wheel under a single broiler type machine and it melts the top layer. You get a good amount of gooey cheese with some crunchy spots. If I ever have a free Thursday night again I will def go back. However I did see a Monday Night Raclette other day!!! Orrmans is awesome!! They've moved into the HUGE empty space at the end of 7th Street Market and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the new digs! For one thing, Rachel and her team finally get some space to move without running over one another! The accoutrements to go with their selection of meats and cheeses is huge now! There are tons of local jams and honeys, crackers, cutting boards, and everything you'll ever need to make a lovely picnic or charcuterie/cheese board for your party... did I mention they're right next to Assorted Wine's booth?! What could be more perfect?! read more
Raclette night is BOMB. I got the plate with the charcuterie and I'll be dreaming of it for days to come. The sommelier was so friendly and helpful with selecting a bottle of wine to enjoy with our meal and the chocolate mousse dessert was a pleasant surprise! Quick service, good attention to COVID protocols, and every employee I encountered was extremely friendly. read more

Being an avid cheese and charcuterie lover, this night was right up my alley. Due to COVID, they are not able to pour the cheese in front of you but I got the behind-the-scenes look. The cheese was amazing! Pro tip: eat it quickly or the cheese will harden. However, it was still delicious on the potatoes, meat and bread. Can't forget to pair it with a bottle of wine from @assortedtableqc. 7th Street Public Market is closed down for the Raclette Night but the Assorted Table is open for purchase. This is definitely a highly recommended Charlotte experience! And you still have time - they are continuing Raclette Nights into 2021. read more

Cool spot, really yummy food! I had high expectations that I had built up in my head after lots and lots of social media pushing of the Raclette night. Had I just stumbled across the location I would have been wow'ed. I think they over hyped the experience of the Raclette. Overall I would go again alone and enjoy this meal. read more

Stopped by this food hall in the morning and this venue was one of the few stalls already open. Thank goodness because the food was delicious! We got a large tomato soup and a Cuban sandwich. The tomato soup was a little creamy, a little spicy, so good. The Cuban had all the right flavors . They had my favorite sparkling water (Topo Chico) and the hubby got a spicy Ginger ale which was pretty tasty. The gentleman at the counter was super friendly and we received our food very quickly. Absolutely thrilled to discover Orrman's Cheese Shop today. Had a fantastic time chatting with Jose, who was super knowledgeable about everything I asked about. So happy to know somewhere I can rent a raclette grill. Jose and I talked at length about choices for cheese to make fondue, and then he cut pieces of the 3 he recommended -- an Emmetaler, a young Gruyère and a sheep milk cheese similar to raclette, but with a little more bite. He also recommended the soprasetta to accompany, which was delicious, and then their baguette which was outstanding. Baguettes are par baked, so you finish at home for a delicious crisp crust and soft interior. Made the fondue tonight exactly as Jose suggested and it was sensational, especially on a cold rainy night. We will be back soon for Raclette Night and to try more delicious cheese. This is a hidden gem, but not hiding from me anymore! read more
I thought I reviewed Orrman's but I see I didn't so here's a VERY late review! We came here a few months back for raclette night and it did NOT disappoint. Despite being in 7th St Market, I felt like I was in a European café or in places I've been to in NYC so I was really happy Charlotte had a place like this with the same vibe. The Good: the food, the raclette, the vibe, and the service. We were able to pick out the perfect bottle of red from the shop across the way that complemented the cheese perfectly. Basic raclette, which is what we got, is raclette over boiled potatoes, bread, and gherkins - $20. I should have sprung the extra $4 for the raclette with charcuterie but I didn't because I thought it would be too much food. The normal raclette was a small/good size portion but I definitely could've used some meat so next time I'll get that. We ended up getting a tin of delicious sardines that our cheesemonger recommended so chat with them about their packaged fish if you're a fan! The small starter salad and chocolate pot de crème were the perfect opening and dessert to the meal. Keep in mind, portions aren't standard American restaurant size AND the cheeses are VERY high quality so be prepared to pay more for the quality! Some might call it pretentious but I say it's a good value for the quality. The Meh: as with all vendors in 7th St Market, they close at 7 because that's when the market closes. If you're looking for a nice, date night spot, you better get it in early! I didn't realize the market closed at 7 and we were there until closing time but Orrman's staff did not rush us which we really appreciated. I don't like being THAT person because I know people have lives to get back to, so I rushed myself when I would've liked to have chilled a bit - but thats on me. I hope the market's hours increase soon now that COVID is better! The Bad: nope, nothing. 5 starts! I see they moved to a bigger spot within the market so I will for sure be back for another raclette night! This time with charcuterie (on top of more sardines haha). Easy access from the light rail or there's tons of parking in the parking garage which you can get validated within the market. read more

Great little cheese shop in the 7th Street marketplace. Got a little pregame meal before heading to the Hornets game at Spectrum Center (a block away) and wasn't disappointed. Glad I took a leap of faith with the Cheesemonger's selection board. They asked what kind of cheese I preferred first, which was great, and gave me some delicious mimilotte (a personal favorite), along with a couple of other delicious options. Also was some really nice, crusty bread, olives and pickles, and some blueberry preserves. All that for only $14! There is also a really nice wine shop in the marketplace that provided the perfect glass to accompany my meal. I won't hesitate to visit again the next time I'm in Charlotte! read more

If you love cheese and you haven't been to Orrman's, you absolutely have to go - it is hands down my favorite part of 7th Street Market. And that's saying a lot, because there are so many great places to eat and drink there. It's wayyyy more than just cheese. Do yourself a favor and Google the menu. They have brought the grilled cheese sandwich to a whole new art form. Everything they do, they do well. (Get the Croque Monsieur if you're undecided). I was able to bring a friend here before an event this past week (to show the place off) and we ordered a cheese platter for two, saying "just surprise us". It was quite literally perfect. A bleu Cheese from France - delicate and fragrant, a Croatian Cheese 1/2 cows milk, half sheep - so flavorful and a third which escapes me that was funky and creamy but delicious. Add to that Marcona Almonds, Baguette, Apricot Cardamom Jam, olives and cornichon = Heaven on a platter. Some of the best grilled cheese in Charlotte. We got: The Raclette, ham, and fig jam The Smoked mozzarella, prosciutto, and roasted tomato The peanut butter and triple berry jam with goat cheese All of them are absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend giving it a try next time you're at 7th Street market! read more

Super cute shop and all employees were very kind and helpful. Both sandwiches were fantastic and hit the spot. The mozzarella, prosciutto and tomato was my favorite because everything went together so well. Also grabbed some wine from Assorted Table wine shop just next to it read more

10/10 for gift boxes! I ordered the North Carolina Bounty gift box for a friend's birthday and it turned out great. I appreciated the attention to detail and asking if I'd like to include a personalized note. Rachel helped me with the order and she was personable, professional and told me when it would be delivered, all through email. I live on the other side of the country and I felt taken care of. Great customer service and the box was so cute! Can't wait to visit in person next time I'm in NC. read more
