Everything in the burrito was pretty bland, the best part of the burrito was the green sauce which was very good. I wouldn't order the fish tacos again, the breading was soggy and small. The beans were very below average and would pass on that as well. The chips and salsa they give when you dine in are good. Overall the price and quantity here is good, but the food is very average. If you're looking for something local then it could be worth the try, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for this place. The staff is friendly and the booths and tables were clean. read more

Some of these reviews are bogus. We live nearby and moved here close to 10 years ago. Today we realized that we've been missing out all this time. Definitely coming back with the kids next time as well. Had a spontaneous lunch date with my wife as I was craving fish tacos, and she wanted aguachile. Ended up getting a fish taco, orange bang, shrimp ceviche tostada, and asada fries on top of it. All were delicious. Service was good, and food was good. Amazed at the ginormous selection (160+ items) of all the seafood, authentic dishes, huge portions and platters, and even smash burgers for kids. The fries were amazing and cooked perfectly-- not too thick, not too thin. They even have liquor, chamoy, churros... yeah, definitely coming back. We went yesterday to order a charola (tray of food), and by mistake, I placed an order for two instead of one. We immediately tried to call back to correct the order, but no one ever answered the phone. Since we couldn't get through, I drove to the restaurant to fix it in person. When I got there, an employee greeted me kindly and let the kitchen know we only needed one tray. But then the owner came out and completely changed the tone. He was rude and aggressive, saying, "You either take both or you're not taking sht."* I was shocked by how unprofessional and disrespectful he was. I told him, "Fine, then I won't take anything," and he yelled back, "Don't worry, we make money every single day. We don't need your money." This kind of behavior is unacceptable. No customer deserves to be treated this way especially when trying to correct a simple mistake. I will not be returning, and I don't recommend this place to anyone. Ortegas used to be very good and worth what they charge for ceviche trays but not anymore. $60+ for a tray of what might as well be pico de gallo is crazy! The few pieces of shrimp that were in there weren't clean and it gave me asco. I'll go back for food, but not for ceviche. read more

This place is nearby and we have been curious. We stopped in and were pleasantly surprised. My husband is pescatarian and loved the whole catfish option. I ordered carne asada fries which were yummy but I will say I wish it was shredded cheese instead of nacho cheese sauce. Nothing fancy inside, but very welcoming. I wrote my original review in 2017, and I have still be coming here almost once a month since. The molcajete is still super delicious as is the mojarra frita, and various ceviches. I decided to write an update to talk about the breakfast platters. My go to is the Chorizo and Eggs fajitas (no cheese). It comes with chorizo, two eggs, and breakfast potatoes. Together it is super good, and makes for a super hearty breakfast platter that will fill you up. If you come of the right days, they will have hand made corn tortillas. I got turned onto this place back in 2007. I used to pick up a big tray of ceviche. The last time I was here is pre-COVID. Now post covid the customer service has gone down. They're not attentive, didn't bring all the food. It took us half an hour to get the bill. I ordered two tostadas one of crab and shrimp and the other fish. It did not taste good. It tastes like ketchup. I ordered a sangria. It was $4 something that I buy at the store for $1.50 not good I never got my ceviche tostada. My friend had taquitos. They were good. She liked it. I have been coming here for years for the ceviche would I come back? It's not going to be my top pick anymore. The service is bad. The tables are dirty. The place needs a deep cleaning. So does the bathroom. It will be a hit and miss if you eat here. I rather hit a spot where I know service, cleanliness, and hospitality are prioritized and good tasty seafood will be eaten. I've ordered food delivery for almost 25 years and have enjoyed the food. A bit pricey but I understand it's part of good food plus delivery. only recently did I call and complain about the amount of food ( noticeably less ) diminished for almost $100 for 2 people when ordering different types of molcajete. I just now saw their health department score of B and will possibly not order untill that score has increased! especially when you are ordering seafood it is much more important to pay attention to that. I love the food here, however, their online ordering through the website is questionable. I ordered some food on Mother's Day and paid using my credit card. When I arrived at the restaurant 35 minutes later, the employee said they had turned off the ordering system and had to wait another 15 minutes to get the food. We weren't even done and were given our check in the middle of eating. We wanted to try ceviche but we didn't know which one to get. The worker was pretty awesome and offered us some samples before making decisions. There were two different types and we went with the octopus and shrimp. We also got the 7 sea seafood stew, spicy fried whole tilapia, and grilled shrimp tacos. The stew was not very flavorful, but the ingredients were fresh. The fish was really good. We also liked the tacos a lot, grilled shrimp was tasty. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. The portion was big and service was friendly. We did wish to see more seafood other than just shrimp and octopus. Perhaps next time. read more

My bf had previously tried the ceviche from here and enjoyed it. We came on Friday, unfortunately closer to closing. They still took us in. Our server took our drink order and never came back. At that point another lady took our order since they were nearing closing time. We ordered a few beers and a seafood molcajete. It was fully loaded for a great price. The quality of the seafood was good too. All in all I believe this is a hidden gem in Whittier. Ortega's has the best taco Tuesday in town! Each Tuesday all of their tacos are 1.99. I personally love to order one asada, one fish, and one shrimp. These tacos come in large portion so expect to be stuffed. They're mostly known for their Mariscos! Personally, I love their octopus ceviche, fish ceviche, and aguachiles. I usually get a lb of fish ceviche and ask for a little bit of the aguachiles sauce on the side for some added spice. I have yet to find a place with better fish. Also, they sell all of their ceviche in party platters as well. My only gripe with this place is that they don't include the tostada with the ceviche. They are normal Juanita's ones and are sold separately. Also the workers can be a bit rude sometimes. I always order at least 6 tacos and they only ever give me one salsa. When I ask for more the worker just says "that's enough." I'm willing to pay for the extra salsa but that is never offered as an option. The parking lot is a big but is shared with multiple other businesses. Keep in mind that this place is always busy. read more

But this time when I placed my order & ordered carne asada plate & shrimp ceviche. The carne was burnt to the ends. But it was a nice portion , just not good tasting. A friend of mine was in the Lon Beach area one day when I suggested we go to Port O Call in San Pedro. He started to complain about the prices, parking and so forth. Then get tells me about this restaurant Ortegas. At first, I could not imagine eating that sort of platter away from the whole scenery and atmosphere that comes with the whole San Pedro experience. But as he was taking the idea started to sound better and better by the minute. Here we are 3 months later, and I run into my friend around lunch time. He reminds me of that restaurant and asks if I want to join him for lunch there. The whole time on the ride over there he kept telling me if I was ready for a bomb meal. All I can say is wow they did not disappoint me at any time during my visit there. The place is located in a narrow shopping mall with what seemed like two of everything. Upon walking in the place has a very Mexican style to it wit with a carnecirea background of all their seafood options. Once seated you are treated to a very beautiful waitress who knows exactly what we wanted when we said, San Pedro. The dish came out in a large metal pan with peeled and deveined shrimp, potatoes, red and green bell pepper, onions, garlic sauce, with red chili powder. On the side were yellow rice and 4-foot long garlic bread. The Flavor was on point the amount of shrimp to veggies was equal meaning you got over 70 shrimp in the player. The bonus was I didn't have to peel or devain and shrimp I was able to enjoy the dish without getting my hands dirty.. The platter, rice, bread, 1 model and 1 water came out to 42.00 bucks. Plus there was still enough left over for him and I to share the leftovers for a late night snack or tomorrows lunch. I will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant to anyone who love San Perdo like I do. read more
