I came to this bar for a Logan Square Preservation Society Event. I have been living in Logan Square for over a decade and have never been here. I have been missing out. They have decent craft beer selections and cheap beer, as well as shot specials. I mostly stayed in the middle part of the bar because it was a hot day but they do have a nice sized patio with an outdoor bar with a cute little koi pond. They are cash only but they do have an ATM inside. There is a single bathroom which can be inconvenient when it's crowded. They also have live music which is a plus. Honestly I've been to this bar a number of times and I used to love it... super welcoming and always a good time. Unfortunately something has DRASTICALLY changed.. To put it point blank- I just feel straight up uncomfortable coming in now... I don't know if it's because I'm a female or what.. but I have warned my other friends. Its an eery feeling, and it doesn't help that the owner and co-owner (K something?) get a little too aggressively friendly that it honestly makes me want to leave. Not to mention the casual racism dropping the N-word like it's no big deal(????)... you know you're operating a business in Chicago, right? I don't know exactly what has changed in the last year or two to make this place an avoidable one, but I know for sure I'm not coming back again. Super awkward loud music selection with long completely silent pauses between each song. Completely unrelated genres. Like heavy metal to pop to something else I also don't want to listen to. Struggling to hear and be heard to shouting over a silent vast room because you accidentally kept talking once the song was gonna switch. Service is friendly. Was pretty empty but it was on a Wednesday night, to be fair. The bartender was not wearing a mask (during COVID). The bouncer had a mask dangling from one of his ears. What was once a rough spot is now a new dive that has been refurbished and looks great. The prices are cheap, $2.50 for domestics and plenty of craft taps on the way. With ample seating, a back patio, pac-man machine and two huge 60" flat screens it's a terrific spot to watch the games and kick back. Newly renovated and great prices! We were always sad to see the "medical leave" sign with the re-opening month pushed back constantly but glad they were able to open again and it looks like they put a lot of love into getting things back up and running. These are seriously the cheapest drink prices I've seen the entire time I've lived in Chicago. This place is easy to miss when driving by and looks pretty divey from the outside, but there's no need to be scared to go in. There may be a regular or two, but there's not going to be any sort of record scratch and heads turn when you walk in. Everyone's friendly and there for the same reason you are. Oh, and O's is part of what I've been calling the "Walk Western" path - starting down at Challengers (or coming off of the 606), hitting Margie's/Quesadilla/The Art of Chicken/Paladar for food, grabbing a drink (or two or three) at O's, hunting to get a piece of your childhood back at Toy de Jour, looking for oddities at Sideshow Gallery, and ending up at Logan Arcade. I used to be a girl who had a different go-to bar for every occasion. My "a night out" bar was different than my "a quick cheap drink" bar or my "awkward terrible first date bar". Chicago has got many, many to choose from. But O's is somehow perfect for all of these things? Which is probably why I stop by every week. It's just so pleasant and effortless and dependable and fun. If you can't tell, I've got deep, deep abiding love and appreciation for this bar. The Pro's: -Almost directly across the street from my apartment -Always immaculate, cool (literally...it's been a gross end of summer) and casual -Very kind and friendly bartenders -Lovely regulars -A pool table that's allowed me to reach the prestigious level of "good for someone who doesn't really know how to play pool" -Touchtunes for later in the evening -The refurbishment job they did is awesome; updated but not out of character -A beer garden to come? The bar is fine, it's always friendly. But my bedroom window faces their "porch seating" and I can hear every word uttered by drunk, slurring females who feel the need to repeat themselves about how their boyfriends "don't understand" and "no you don't get it" troubles. honestly their patio is not a patio, it's smack dab in the middle of residential units with zero sound barriers. They have even played live music on weeknights. Just completely disrespectful to the neighborhood. I'm tired of listening to shrill drunken looping arguments. Since it's winter, the patio is dead and that's great news for mY sleep cyclE, but, they have installed the loudest aluminum garage doors that BANG all night when the slightest breeze rolled through. If I can hear all this, they MUST be able to, as well. I'm not even their exact neighbor so I feel for the people who surround their noisy bar in the good weather or when the concord books a huge act. The bar itself isn't bad. Nice TVs, really cheap drinks, though no ATM machine, which is kinda a drag, since the closest one is across the street or down the street by the hot dog place. Not horrible, but not ideal, especially if you're just trying to stop in for a quick drink without having to go somewhere else first. (They're cash only) The few interactions I've had with the staff have all been very positive, though. The bartenders are chatty in a friendly way, and it definitely seems to have been growing a decent following, as I've seen it pretty crowded...but that leads me to my next point (as touched by another reviewer).. I live extremely close to this place, with my bedroom facing the alley side of this street, and like the guy down there with the one-star review, these guys definitely have made this pocket really quite noisy over the past several weeks. Now, I don't know anything about the owners. Another reviewer here is saying the owners are upstanding people giving back to the community and whatnot, which is swell. But in relation to Martin's one-star review, he has a legitimate point (albeit crudely stated) where the patio of this place is in the back pocket of an alley surrounded by apartments/homes, and it can get overly noisy into the early morning hours, to the point where it's woken me up and caused me to have difficulty falling asleep. Normal city noises (buses, trains, cars, etc.) are a different story; this is more in-line with people having a noisy BBQ into the early morning hours, which as we all know, gets reported by neighbors pretty quickly. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood joint. An ATM machine or a credit card machine would do it wonders in regards to a bar. Greetings, I thought the purpose of YELP is to write respectful reviews on an array of places around town, known to us as entertainment. I for one use a particular formula based on marketing, service, product, experience, and overall atmosphere. The criteria should be based on poor, fair, good, and excellent, nothing more nothing less. Belittling, defamation, rudeness, and being a troll because your unhappy with your life, or neighborhood has no space on YELP. The owner of O's Tap and their management staff happens to be genuine productive members in our community. Trying to ruin a small business owner who provides tax dollars to better our community is appalling. I met the owner not long ago to check out the place. The owner is a caring individual who cares plenty for his community. I urge anyone to go meet the staff for yourselves. That 1 star rating has yet to be unfounded. I am a city employee who's worked with several alderman, police and community leaders to improve neighborhoods such as Logan Square, Buck Town, and Ukraine Village. For anyone unfamiliar with Western Ave., where O's Tap resides, it is 2 lanes north and south directions. Trains, buses, trucks, cars, and people traffic travel along this avenue 24/7. Store fronts, fast food, restaurants, bars, liquor stores dominate the avenue. Western has a 20% residents to a whopping 80% mostly businesses. Taverns may be considered to be disreputable, sinister, of poor upkeep, or even a detriment to any community. Hence, for lack of a better term "DIVE BAR." O's Tap is nothing near a dive bar. The owner bought the place and renovated, he got rid of the gang infested degenerates from the old place, and changed his clientele, know as urban professionals who live near by. In closing the owner will not serve or cater to hyenas, riff raff, giraffes, lions, tigers, nor bears.
