We had a variety of rolls and they were all spectacular. I wanted to try out an order of their sushi nachos so we could all share it as an appetizer, and that was epic. Every one loved the dish. It reminded me of good fish ceviche but with a fantastic Asian twist. Definitely worth trying out. Hopefully next time we return they still have it on their menu. The fried calamari was delicious and so was the tempura. Everything was freshly made. The peanut chicken was nice and crispy and the peanut sauce was savory and sweet at the same time. The chicken curry was also very tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want good quality sushi along with other tasty dishes.

A month later we placed a to go order and mentioned the appetizer and she confirmed that was correct. I go to pick it up and the owner comes out and says he will not honor that because the price of the appetizer was too high and pick something else. #1. That wasnt what they offered and we agreed to. #2. If you're not going to honor it why not call me and let me know so I don't drive there and waste my time again? He has my number. Edit: regarding the response below. If the intentions were to offer items up to a certain price then that should've been made clear. The problem was they clearly specified ANY APPETIZER of your choosing numerous times. And obviously they have a responsibility to address this when I placed the order/after instead of waiting for me to drive there.

The center consists of a sushi bar with a functioning boat, chefs making rolls and putting jello onto the little floaties. The back has the standard Americanized Chinese fare. Bonus: there is a "Mongolian BBQ" station where a cook will stir fry your creation. Pricing is pretty decent considering there is more than just the hot trays of Chinese. The food itself was pretty OK. Sushi is basic to below average with huge 65-35 rice proportions, so get ready to be full fast. The sushi chefs also focused on saucy rolls vs nigiri. Because there is seating around the sushi boat, it was funny witnessing socially-unaware people go up behind people sitting there to grab a plate even though there was a huge space at the end of the island without seating to avoid this. Anyways, we ate a bunch to get our money's worth and could cross this off the list to never have to go again.

Easily my most favorite sushi place in town, simply because their portion sizes are incredible. You really get what you pay for! I can't stand paying $30 for eight or nine tiny slivers of fish at other sushi places. Well, thankfully Osaka offers generously sliced portions of their sashimi, and they are fairly priced, to boot. If you're a lover of sashimi, you'll love Osaka. Their fish is the freshest on this side of Modesto. Their rolls are legit, too. I'm a huge fan of the dragon roll myself, you're bound to find one that suits your pleasure, fellow sushi-loving Yelpers. Their service is always gracious and friendly, everyone I've interacted with is so nice, and they're always on top of their service game if I need something while dining in. I only wish they'd improve their phone system. I call in to-go orders now and then, but sometimes I can't even get through and get the busy signal when it's peak hours. It's a minor inconvenience, so I don't let this affect my high praise and recommending this awesome sushi restaurant, but I just figured this would be worth mentioning. At least they're on DoorDash, alternatively! In summary: Sashimi and Sushi lovers needs to try Osaka. You just can't pass through Modesto without stopping here if you're hankering sushi. read more

This Japanese restaurant is the real deal. You haven't experienced true Japanese tradition until you try them out. They treat you like family no matter who you are, whether it's your first time or your 50th time. The cost of the food is very good considering the *****quality you receive. Their dishes no matter the size is so well plated that it opens your eyes as well as your pallets. If you get a chance sit at the sushi bar where all the action happens. You'll be greeted by Jose, Jason, and Kenny, thier masters of sushi chef's(no lie). The waiters and waitresses are always on the move, so service is never an issue. The atmosphere is traditional Japanese even the music(we can stay at home for American music). For real sushi lovers like myself thier raw oyster in a shell (see pic's) you haven't had one as wonderful as their's cause it's original and addicting. And the best part no matter how often you go there, they always remember what you usually order 95% of the time, now that's paying attention as well as interest in their customers. read more

Their food is great but the service tonight is horrible! Called in my order at 7 pm they told me 40-45 mins. It's now almost 8 and I'm still waiting. They have a waitress manning the front, taking phone orders and payments. She apparently put my number in, incorrectly when I called, so when I came in, she couldn't find my order on her take out list. I finally told her WHAT I ordered and from that she found she entered my number in, incorrectly. She tells me after I pay, it would be just a few minutes. A few minutes go by, I go back up and ask if it's ready yet as it had been 45 mins. She checks, nothing there. Still waiting and as far as I can see, no one has bothered to check anymore. Granted, they're busy, I get it, but are fine out clients equally important as the dine in? Starting to wonder if she even entered the order ! read more

I love Osaka's. I think it's one of the best places in Modesto to get good sushi. The thing to do is to go with someone and get one of their "special" rolls (that come with soup), and a dinner and split it. What also makes this place special is the staff. They remember you, and are extremely friendly every time you come in. I started coming here because they were open later than most other restaurants, but I'm glad I tried it because now it's a weekly staple for me! The only negative is that there is usually a wait for a table during peak dinner hours. The best thing to do is to just have a late dinner and miss the crowd. Or go for lunch! :) read more

This sushi restaurant is by far the best. The employees are always courteous & provide great service. I regularly order their "Chirashi Don" (assorted fish over sushi rice bowl) & I love it. The variety of the fish flavors and extra garnishments tickle my tongue and gives me a euphoric feeling... The best part is when you reach for the seasoned sushi rice & taste that first bite. Other places I've visited are no match for the sushi rice at Osaka. Sadly, I no longer live in Modesto...but Osaka Sushi will always be my preference. Two stars because the food is the only thing that saves them. Customer service here is garbage. Called in to place an order to go and was left on hold for 30 minutes. I then decided to go in hoping for better service. When I got there, they showed no remorse for just leaving me on hold. The lady at the front was rude and didn't care. I placed the order and then proceeded to wait another 40 mins for 3 rolls and they weren't even busy. Don't get me wrong, I love the food here, they just need to fire the wait staff and get people that actually care about their patrons. read more

Great food and great service! I really enjoy coming here for Japanese food. I particularly like the sushi because the chefs take a lot of pride in preparing my order. They also have a great menu and the restaurant is always clean. Some reviews talk about receiving slow service, but I disagree. I will say that I prefer my food to be prepared fresh and in some cases it takes time to cook. It is worth it to me to have my sushi prepared fresh...wouldn't you agree? By far my favorite Sushi Restaurant in Modesto. My husband and I go at least once a week, sometimes twice. The atmosphere is laid back, with great service and we never wait long for our food, which is nice because we have our kid with us most of the time. They don't carry a lot of the crazy rolls, which I rarely like anyways, but what they do carry is fresh and tastes great. If you want to have a hands-down BEST sushi/Japanese meal, you simply must try Osaka. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make your dining experience worth coming back time after time. My favorite rolls are the McHenry and the Fuji Mountain. The only real issue, as with all Sushi places around here it seems, is the price. I'm not sure I'm getting the maximum value for my dollar, but such as it is, the food is delicious. I have been eating here for the last two years and Osaka has consistently had good food and service. I have had many of the specialty rolls and the seafood is always fresh. The shrimp tempura is also very good. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you are getting. read more

He apologized when he bumped the sauce, but he didn't realize how much had gotten on my daughter's shirt. When I pointed it out to him and showed him what happened, he apologized again, which I appreciated. Accidents happen, and we understand that. However, since the incident ruined my daughter's top, I would have appreciated the restaurant taking a little more responsibility--perhaps offering some compensation, a discount, or something toward replacing the shirt. Unfortunately, nothing was offered. The food was good, but this experience was upsetting, especially seeing my daughter almost in tears over her shirt. I hope the restaurant can handle situations like this better in the future.

Unfortunately, I'm starting to understand why. First, the prices are ridiculous, especially when you add a mandatory 20% service charge to a to-go order over $100. My wife ordered takeout, not realizing there would be a 20% service charge added. When I arrived and asked what the charge was for, I was told it was essentially a tip for the kitchen because it was a to-go order over $100. Let me get this straight: because I spent over $100 on a to-go order, I'm required to tip the kitchen for preparing the food I ordered? We didn't dine in. We weren't waited on or catered to at a table. When I asked if I could opt out of the service charge, I was told I could not. So I paid an additional $19.50 service charge just to pick up our already expensive food. Then there was the food itself. My son and I each ordered a Dragon Roll, and both were disappointing. You could clearly see that the eel was overcooked, and the rice was dry. Neither my son nor I enjoyed the roll. When you're charging these kinds of prices, the quality should match. Unfortunately, I still have another $100 voucher that I need to use. Once that's gone, so am I. As I'm writing this at 5:50 PM on a Saturday, there are only two occupied tables inside. Between the ridiculous prices, inconsistent food quality, and a mandatory 20% service charge on to-go orders over $100 that wasn't clear when ordering, I can understand why customers may be choosing other options.

For sure if I ever came back here, I'll have to g out their soda since their water with lemon was awful. Ok, now about the food. Chicken teriyaki was good. It was thigh meat and the sauce was great. Good portion too. The shrimp tempura was okay. Very fried. The gyoza wasn't the best I had. Overall, 4 stars. I took a majority home. As for my wife's Korean beef bbq, I was going to get that but my wife said she was getting it so I got a chance to try without having both of us get the same item. To me- 2 stars. Didn't taste like the Korean bbq I'm use to and was kinda firm. Almost beef jerky like. It tasted like a mixture of oil and water. That wasn't even a big deal-restaurants get busy, people make mistakes, it happens. However, when I called asking if I can bring it back and get different (edible) curry sauce, they first said that it was an issue through DoorDash. How? They picked up and fulfilled the order on their end? They begrudgingly allowed me to bring the sauce back and unfortunately gave me the same oily, watery mess. I am disappointed in their lack of willingness to right their wrongs and will not be returning again.
