This is my go-to sushi place in Modesto and it never fails to please. Food: 4/5 the sushi rolls are great you just need to know which ones are good and which ones aren't. The udon is disappointing because the broth is lacking flavor and the tempura has too much breading on it. Overall a positive review for the food Service: 4/5 the service is pretty good they always seat us relatively fast and are quick to take orders for drinks. The food comes out quickly and they are always friendly. Ambiance: the ambiance is a more chill and cozy vibe. Not too loud but has nice lighting. First in line, took an hr to get food. Started to get impatient as we saw people who arrived after us receiving their food before ours. When our food did arrive the soup was cold, some of our fried rolls were soggy. Although the food was okay the service was lousy. This was our 2nd times going, and the services were th same, we had hoped the 1st time it was because it was 8 pm and close to closing but no, service is awful. We had a party of 6 and gratuity is included so not sure if that is why service is bad as the servers don't have to try at all. We were checked on only twice, I had finished my beer way before my food arrived. Food is okay but service is slow. Affordable sushi, excellent quality. This restaurant has a little bit of everything, which I love. Udon, nigiri, rolls, sashimi and more! Food: for appetizers I always order at least one of the poke nachos. For mains I get usually beef udon, and a lion king roll. If I'm with a group and we order for the whole table to share, we get spicy edamame, dynamite mussels, lion king roll, cherry blossom roll, flower roll, and the New Orleans roll. Also, the sake (salmon) nigiri is so good! It melts in your mouth. Service: there are plenty of staff members who are walking around, ensuring each table is doing well. Your waiter will of course order your food, but any staff member will bring it to your table once it's prepared. Which is nice, so you can eat it fresh. The prices are reasonable. Beware of this restaurant, I had a waitress forge a receipt and tip herself almost $40! I was here on 4/18/24 on my lunch break with coworkers and I had ice water and a $15 roll. The original price showed pending and when it posted over $50 was charged to my card! I am so disappointed that there are people like this. Stealing is not okay! Just please, keep your receipts if you come here. I'll never return because of this and the sushi is subpar and the restaurant is outdated and dirty anyway. read more

Osaka serves oustanding rolls, very good tasting with nice presentation. We had a good experience there. There is outdoor and indoor seating, with ample distancing, waiters and waitresses wear masks, and the restaurant is clean. The Lion King roll was delicious, and so was the Kamikaze Roll with a nice tempura crunch to each bite. The spicy edamame had a good spicy roasted flavor and light salted. I was disappointed with the Otoro which was dry and bland, and the Uni which apparently was from Santa Barbara didn't taste fresh. You really do expect dishes that you pay market price for to be of high quality, but they were very noticeably poor quality, which was mentioned to the waitress. The sashimi, which I enjoyed the most, was much better quality. Never ordering uni and otoro here again unless I'm proven that it gets better. read more

I am pretty sure instead of giving me sliced jalapeños on top i was met with shishito peppers and random breading which im assuming be used it was fried. There was barely any avocado. It's Sunday afternoon, an hour before closing and we decide for some last minute sushi. Seated upon arrival, plenty of open tables, we sat at our preferred booth. Service: just the right amount of attention from the young lad. Appetizer: Shrimp Gyoza - this is a first for me and was delicious. Add a little soy sauce and make sure to poke it as they come out hot! Rolls: Dragon roll - simple, not overdone, and extremely balanced. Rainbow roll - a nice touch to a variety of fish, extremely fresh. Salmon hand roll - fresh and delicious. Drink: Kirin 22oz beer, the pefect rough to a good meal. Highly recommended and we will be back. I'll have to come back and try the nigiri as I honestly don't trust nigiri from Modesto, so that will be a touch one. read more

I'm not sure if it is under new ownership, but there seems to be a lack of management in the front of house that was not there before. They have plenty of employees but they all seem to be confused about what they should be doing. The fried squid I ordered was the only thing I ordered that was sub par, it was greasy and the batter was soggy. The rest of the food was really good, the charashi don bowl was excellent and the fish inside it was fresh and flavorful. This is a big no for me. I've had better sushi pre-packaged from the supermarket. Ordered two dragon rolls. The tempura shrimp was more like just fried tempura batter, no shrimp in sight. The unagi that was supposed to be on top was somehow chopped into little pieces and incorporated into the unagi sauce, was so bizarre. The worst part in the rice was over cooked and absolutely smashed to death when they rolled it together. Ended up being the most dense, chewy sushi I've ever eaten. Once we were seated the staff was friendly and when i asked about a few different rolls she was able to help me find the right one. I did not like the scallop nigiri here. It had a particularly strong smell and did not taste as good as I had hoped. They probably should have told me they were out. I've eaten a lot of hotate. My daughter and I went here this evening Sept.16th 2021 and this was the first time in my 43 years I left "NO TIP" our waitress with the blonde ponytail was HORRIBLE and basically ignored us the whole time. I ran out of Sake and ice tea and she never stopped by our table once but walked by atleast 200 times. I didn't even wait for the bill we went up front and payed.
