Let's start with the pros - ordering over the phone was super easy and the staff was fast and friendly. Pick up and payment went smoothly as well. We ordered the rainbow roll and dragon roll. Not the greatest presentation or flavor, but it got the job done. The tempura inside the dragon roll felt super heavy/dense compared to what I'm used to eating back home (LA county). Also, I got maybe two pieces of ginger on the side, which was not ideal. I love ginger, and I wish I would have known to ask for three times extra. Overall, I am unsure if I'd come back or just wait to drive somewhere like towards Oakland. OR, maybe I'd opt for the cooked plates instead. read more

When your favorite sushi spot is closed on Sundays you end up at a new spot, and I can honestly say we were not disappointed. We paid a visit on 12/5/21. I will definitely be adding this spot to our list of places to eat when in the mood for Sushi! Since it was our first time here I wanted to make sure we tried a couple rolls and every single roll we ordered was plated beautiful and great in size. They all had generous amounts of flavor and everything was fresh. The Tuna jalapeño poppers we tried were so good! Spicy but good! I definitely would recommend trying them! The Miso soup was tasty and warm, always a great way to start our meal. Our favorite rolls of the night were the monster and red dragon. We came in on a Friday night and they already have a list of people waiting to be seated. The wait time was actually quick and we were seated on a high table. Although we did chose to just sit here instead of waiting for a regular one given that choice, the chairs were a bit wobbly so we couldn't move that much. I was sitting facing the TV and the wall clock and on my right side the sushi bar (with 3 sushi chefs making sushi), server's table and POS. Our server came right away to get our drinks and even asked us if we're ready to order.. hmmm we just sat here and haven't even browsed the menu yet. Anyway, she did give us some time, a very pretty long time that is. When she finally came back after a while, we finally put in our orders for sashimi & sushi roll, monster roll, fuji mountain roll and maguro nigiri. We asked her if we can keep a menu so that we could order some more if we wanted to. More than 30mins later our food finally arrived. The monster roll was my fave, they have big sized portions of every roll. The shrimp tempura inside was still crunchy and flavorful that it matched perfectly withe the spicy tuna. The spiciness of the roll didn't overwhelm the whole flavor experience. Fuji mountain roll also had the bbq eel that has the char taste in them in which cooled by the cucumber it came with when put in your mouth and mixed together. The sashimi tasted fresh and were cut thick that you can savor the creaminess of them. Maguro nigiri which came in 2 pcs were just for myself as my husband doesn't like the texture of it. I like the feeling of popping sensation it does as you chew them and the saltiness it give as well. As we finished the food on our table, we decided to add another order of lion king as we were a bit famished waiting for the service and the first set of our orders . It came quite quick this time and we devoured that roll. Wrapped in a foil, this roll was baked so there is a creaminess from the Crabmeat meat and mushiness of the avocado which paired perfectly in our palate. Our food experience was delightful and we like the food that we ordered. It's the service and the wait that kind of ticked me off that night. I don't know if it's just a one night off since this is the first time we tried this place. I tried to flag a server to ask her something but was ignored, the food started piling up at the sushi bar as they are waiting to be delivered on their tables ( I was checking the clock in front of me and there were sushi order sitting there for more than 15 mins waiting to be delivered on the table which ended up right next to us). We had to flag down our server to refill my husband's drink. My tea was ice cold already waiting for our food to arrive. There is no hostess waiting to get people's name on a list, instead they'll jot one party down leave and we have to wait for another one to get to the front desk and pray that they notice not everyone waiting has been put down on the list yet to be seated. They were all over the place. Also, our server gave us the check right after we put in our 2nd set of order in which we were still not done eating and haven't asked for the bill ourselves. We decided to just go and pay and leave as we were just done with this place and the wait and the service. I ate here for the first time on Friday for no meat Friday. My boyfriend and I got complimentary salad and miso soup. I love salads from Japanese restaurants and the salad was so good. The miso soup came with the love boat. The love boat had nigiri, sashimi, and two rolls. The two rolls were California roll and spicy tuna roll. My favorite part of the love boat was the salmon nigiri and California roll. Not the best sashimi I've had. The two fresh oysters I had were so good. We also ordered a mango sake and that was good as well. It was a bubbly mango alcoholic drink. The employee was very nice and helpful. It was very busy and loud in the restaurant. Food was good. Presented nicely. Overall, 4 out of 5. Fried calamari: A couple pieces were really tough and hard, almost as if it was old. The sauce that comes with it is good so I guess that makes up for the toughness. Seared peppered tuna: It came out presentable and looked as if it was well seasoned but tasted bland. Lava roll: Spicy - which was really nice because some places don't make their spicy really spicy. There was crab meat, shrimp tempura and salmon but the spicy tuna definitely overpowered the other flavors. Dragon (maybe red dragon?): I don't exactly remember the name of the roll but this was good. I feel like you can't go wrong ordering this roll. Fish for the sushi was good - tasted fresh. Dude. This sushi was so good. I'm from an area that's known for its food and wine, but the only good sushi place there closed during the pandemic. I've been searching and sorely disappointed in the selections both in the North Bay and Central Valley, until Osaka. I took my dad here on Father's Day, and it's pretty much all either of us can think about. The service was good. The wait for the rolls was just the right amount. Long enough that you knew you were getting something delicious, but not so long that you got cranky. Clean and aesthetically pleasing. We will definitely be biweekly regulars. read more

We've been here about three times in the last two years. Is it my go to place for sushi? No! It is kind of like the last resort. I have honestly only been here because of friends who wanted to eat here. I tend to be very picky with sushi and where I would dine. The restaurant is too dark and the tables are not cleaned properly. I mean we can all agree to use disposable paper towels to clean these tables so they are clean for the next guest. Using the same dirty rag on chairs and tables seems to be counterproductive and defuse the purpose of cleaning. Service is on the slower side and you can tell they are short staffed-at least the times I've been here. Waitresses seem to be under a lot of stress and it shows on their faces. I personally tend to stay away from places where they have that unwelcoming vibe overall. Most people that come here love the place because of the variety of sushi rolls they offer. Their food is average. I would not rate it the best! Everyone has their own taste of a good place to dine for number of reasons. read more

I'm so disappointed in my food. I have been a customer of Osaka's for many years and have always had great service and even better food. I ordered my usual roll, McHenry Roll, for pickup. I noticed when I opened the container that it looked different than in the past but decided to try it. It's terrible. It fell apart immediately because whoever put this roll together has no clue what they're doing. The pieces of bell pepper and asparagus are too big and should have been fibely cut to prevent the roll from falling apart. They literally used the cilantro stems in the roll! I'm assuming the dark material is seaweed which this roll is not made with. I'm really disappointed in the preparation and skill of the chef who prepared this roll. Im not experienced in sushi so my expectations are not expectations of comparison, my expectations are to close my eyes in satisfaction from every bite. Osaka did that to me. Calm vibes. Great smell when my firecracker sushi arrived. Visually stunning. And closed eyes when I take my bites(to shut down my sense of sight, to focus absolutely on smell and taste senses). Im not sure why anyone would choose Osaka sushi instead of any other trusted sushi restaurant. Im curious on the levels of sushi dining now. I feel yelps pictures help the ordering of sushi for beginners like me. Osaka menu has english descriptions of menu items that helped guide my curiosity of sushi. I ordered the firecracker roll, super flavorful and no heartburn lol. My date got the laguna roll, super fresh and light. What I didn't like was it was $31 dollars for 2 rolls(a quickie). Economically speaking. 2 hours of labor and my life is not a fair exchange for a quick sushi bite that left me hungry still. read more

Not only am I giving this place 5 stars but my 3 co-workers also give it 5 stars! They do provide outdoor dining, it's a cute, chic, outdoor DIY vibe feel! Came here for my last day working in Modesto and they did not disappoint, everything was superb! My table ordered a bunch of food including alcoholic drinks and although they do not prepare the sake bombs for you, they still provide you with all the basic necessities for the them. Our orders consisted of many things which I forgot some of the plates my friends ordered... I ordered the Ichi Ban Maki roll which contains no rice, it's wrapped in cucumber and was quite refreshing, I also ordered the tempura green beans which were amazing, I love that tempura crunchy taste! My friends ordered multiple rolls which consisted of the Dragon King roll which my friend said was, "aesthetically pleasing to the mouth and eye". The pineapple roll was a favorite by everyone at the table and had just the right amount of spiciness! Another friend said the beef teriyaki plate that was served on the cast iron skillet was, "fucking amazing"....and wanted to take the skillet home, lol. Other than that, the service was quick, friendly, and such a friendly atmosphere. There are individual restrooms readily available inside to the left. There are places to eat inside as well for those cold nights but they are practicing social distancing and not even table/booth is being occupied. The prices are so reasonable for the quantity they serve and food definitely taste fresh! (0/3) - The miso soup was hot and good - The salad was overdressed and too sweet - The spider roll had too much sauce on it and the sauce was too salty; tasted like too much use of oyster sauce - The amberjack was overpowering and didn't taste fresh - The maguro wasn't firm and tasted like it had been refrozen and thawed The service was not great. You work in service for tips - you should smile at work, welcome customers in, and check in on them at least once after you bring them food. We were given small plates for the soy sauce. We were still seated promptly and had a great lunch. The menu is extensive which can be a red flag but not here. I can't wait to come back to try their Ramen. For today I had the Dragon King sushi roll. It was incredible. The presentation would have impressed Mega Mind. I have been here for many date nights with my fiancé. Prices are reasonable. Sushi is delicious! (I love the dragon roll the best!) the servers are always very kind and welcoming. They are very attentive to the customer. There is only one thing that I was iffy about. One day I wanted to try one of the desserts. So I ordered the tempura fried ice cream. First in line, took an hr to get food. Started to get impatient as we saw people who arrived after us receiving their food before ours. When our food did arrive the soup was cold, some of our fried rolls were soggy. Although the food was okay the service was lousy. This was our 2nd times going, and the services were th same, we had hoped the 1st time it was because it was 8 pm and close to closing but no, service is awful. We had a party of 6 and gratuity is included so not sure if that is why service is bad as the servers don't have to try at all. Coming from the Bay Area, my sushi standard is pretty high. I've been to other sushi spots around Modesto and I haven't found a good spot until now. The rolls were all so yummy! Every roll I picked hit the spot. The panda roll was delicious. It was balanced perfectly. My favorite was the crunchy munch roll. It had enough crunch for texture but you still tasted everything in the sushi -- from the fresh fish, to the rice, and nori seaweed. Lion king roll -- perfectly baked and not dry at all! Salmon was cooked just right! The prices are fair -- similar to Bay Area prices but worth it because the rolls have the Bay Area quality. I came there during lunch so it wasn't too busy. The service was good and the server was attentive. Sushi came out fast. I'm definitely coming back for my sushi fix. The udon is disappointing because the broth is lacking flavor and the tempura has too much breading on it. Favorite place in Modesto to get sushi. At the very beginning of the pandemic I ordered Togo from here and it was delicious. Fast forward to now where they allow dine in, I really enjoy having dinner here. I like getting their nigiri and rolls. I like to get their salmon and scallop nigiri. Food: for appetizers I always order at least one of the poke nachos. For mains I get usually beef udon, and a lion king roll. If I'm with a group and we order for the whole table to share, we get spicy edamame, dynamite mussels, lion king roll, cherry blossom roll, flower roll, and the New Orleans roll. Also, the sake (salmon) nigiri is so good! It melts in your mouth. Service: there are plenty of staff members who are walking around, ensuring each table is doing well. Your waiter will of course order your food, but any staff member will bring it to your table once it's prepared. Which is nice, so you can eat it fresh. The prices are reasonable. Beware of this restaurant, I had a waitress forge a receipt and tip herself almost $40! I was here on 4/18/24 on my lunch break with coworkers and I had ice water and a $15 roll. The original price showed pending and when it posted over $50 was charged to my card! I am so disappointed that there are people like this. Stealing is not okay! Just please, keep your receipts if you come here. I'll never return because of this and the sushi is subpar and the restaurant is outdated and dirty anyway. read more
