Instead, It was memorable only for how bad it was. The tuna (maguro) was awful. It was inedibly grainy and did not slightly spring back when touched with gentle pressure--the sign of either low quality fish, or lack of freshness. It is also the common bright pink gassed fish--not a sign of quality. I wouldn't feed this to my cat. I ate one piece of fish without rice. The texture was grainy and gross. I figure it was a fluke and tried another piece before spitting it out. Hard pass. The salmon roe sushi was also off, and inedible. The egg sushi was water-logged and not good. Finally, their chef does not know how to make proper sushi rice. The rice should be sweet with a hint of tartness, both in balance with the rice. No harmony here--it was just slightly tart. When I complained that it was inedible the server was suspiciously defensive insisting it was "fresh." If that's true, it was not good fish from a reputable vendor. If you want sushi and you're in Redding, go to Kobe or Raw.

This is such a wonderful sushi spot! I brought my friend here because he's getting into sushi, and since Osaka offers all-you-can-eat, it was the perfect place for us to try a little bit of everything. I love sashimi, nigiri, hand rolls, and pretty much everything in between. The quality of the fish here is impressive, and everything tasted very fresh. The menu is also extensive, with a little bit of something for everyone. Even if you're not a fan of raw fish, there are plenty of options, including rolls with cooked ingredients, appetizers, and fried dishes. The restaurant itself is spacious and comfortable. There is plenty of seating, and the dining area feels bright and open thanks to all the windows. I also appreciated that there is plenty of room to walk around and that the tables are spaced out enough so you don't feel crowded or accidentally bump into other guests. They also offer dessert, which was a nice surprise. The fried sesame balls were delicious. The outside had a great crispy texture, and the filling (I think it was red bean paste) was not too sweet. My only suggestion for the staff would be to make the all-you-can-eat rolls smaller by offering fewer pieces or half-roll portions. Since there are so many options to try, smaller portions would make it easier to sample more dishes without getting full too quickly. First of all, I have been to an Osaka before, their food is great. I have had sushi at a few different restaurants and Osaka has sushi you should try if you haven't yet. I posted a few photos of the entrance including the parking lot, its small with most of them being 20 min parking. There are maybe 4-5 parking spots that are regular parking, but there is plenty more spaces if you don't mind walking a bit further. I ordered a few appetizers, and not to my surprise I forgot what I had ordered. I ordered Salmon with jalapeno and this dish is great, soft texture with a bit of a spicy kick. The Sushi Tako I believe are the deep fried balls of sushi. It was tasty and a bit creamy. The Salmon Kama I believe is the dish with two big pieces of salmon, the skin was attached and also the tail. This gave an interesting taste as if you were eating a fish once you catch it, not overcooked and you pick the meat off the bones. I ordered a special roll, I believe it was the Osaka Roll. If I am not mistaken it was soy wrapped, but it was amazing. The sauce was great, the texture was great, overall was a good roll. I was full at this point, I was ready to throw in the towel but then I was offered ice cream. The presentation was very nice, a soft touch for a full stomach. I wanted to save this piece separately on its own. They have Bobba Tea. Believe me it was delicious, I ended up ordering two. You can come here just for the Bobba! I will come back. They were very fast at bringing out whatever we ordered, and I really appreciated that they let us know when the sushi bar was about to close in case we wanted to grab anything else. They made sure we had everything we wanted, which was very thoughtful. The food was okay. Personally, I feel like some dine-in sushi spots have better quality overall. However, with the all-you-can-eat option, you can still order items from the regular dine-in menu, you just pay extra for those specialty rolls. They were packed when we went, which shows they're popular, especially on busy days. The restaurant is roomy, so even with the crowd it didn't feel too cramped.
