Jimi Hendrix Roll, scallops, salmon sashimi and I can't remember the other roll. Great presentation!
    Mary Ellen S.

We have eaten here twice now and I think it is wonderful. It is so nice to finally have a sushi place in Salida that is a higher end restaurant! The atmosphere is really nice, we have only sat up front, but liked it. The owners and the staff are really trying hard to make your dining experience great, they are new so you have to expect some glitches in the beginning. My favorite was the scallops, they melt in your mouth. The other time we went in we tried the steak dish, very tender and flavorful. Our friends ordered the papaya salad, very spicy but good. We also split the banana dessert and it was delicious! We will be back for sure.

For the sushi lovers, we finally have a spot in town! Just be prepared to spend your whole budget on a few rolls.... They all range from $15-$25 a roll... and only accept cash or Venmo! On Tuesday we decided to get takeout sushi. We understood it was going to be a busy soft open, however we did not expect to see only one sushi chef working the whole place. It took one full hour before we got our two rolls. Not the chef's fault, you could tell they opened before hiring enough staff. Bummer. The prices on these rolls are just insane. The "classic" tuna avocado roll comes topped with macadamia nuts... ($15) and if you ask for no nuts, it does not change the price. That type of roll and for the size, $10 would be pricey! Maybe if you knew where the fish was sourced could you argue that price but seriously guys, at home you could make that roll at least 5 times for that price. For spending $23 on the Jimi Hendrix roll, you'd think they would list all the ingredients in the roll on the menu. It was much to my surprise that this roll had asparagus in it! And I'm someone who despises asparagus so I would've changed my order had I known. The soft shell crab is what saved it and I found worth the price. In my opinion, there needs to be a maki roll menu with reasonable prices for the basics. Maybe even a happy hour menu with reduced prices during the week. Sure the out of towner's will spend their budget on whatever sushi, but the locals are not trying to break the bank. Also a source guide so we know where the seafood is coming from. I look forward to this place adjusting to our town and I hope they make some changes to improve the experience.

Lava Edamame, once we ordered this, we left.

Given the word "classic", I was expecting long thinly sliced beef , this was small chunks of beef. When I see "Classic Fried Chicken" on a menu, I would expect crispy pan fried bone in chicken... like what my mom made. This Fried chicken consisted of two roundish chunks of boneless white meat breaded in bread or corn meal, picture "shake--n-bake" consistency. Truly tasted like eating cheap frozen breaded boneless chicken. No flavor. No seasoning , not even salt/pepper. The gravy was pale yellow.. NOT at all like CLASSIC freshly made/home made pan chicken gravy, with chunks of the crispy fried pieces from the pan . This seemed more like something out of a jar.. I subbed seasonal vegetable instead of mashed potatoes. The only thing we ordered that was delicious, Cauliflower and Romanesque . Although when asked prior to ordering , the server said the seasonal vegetable was Romanesque, I was surprised that it was a blend with cauliflower...mainly cauliflower, very few Romanesque The fish and chips looked and tasted like Long John Silver's fast food. Two chunks of fish batter fried. The chips seemed like bulk frozen fries. The person who ordered the fish/chip ate very little of it. The bar drinks were good, on their own, those would be 4 stars. , I ordered the mocktail Butterfly Lemonade. It was a lovely shade of lavender, but was like drinking pure bottled lemon juice mixed with some sparkling water. Zero sweetness, even though simple syrup was the second ingredient stated in the ingredients. We sent that drink back. Server was very nice. Outdoor seating was pleasant. Those elements would be 4 star.

We came here on a Friday afternoon with an hour and 15 mins to spare before we had to pick up our train ride tickets. We figured we wanted to try sushi and how long would that take? Surprise surprise! When we entered, there wasn't a single person dining in. We took around 5-8 mins to decide what we wanted and by the time we went back to order at the main desk, there was one person ordering to dine in. Another person came in for their pick up just after we'd finished ordering. We ordered fountain drinks, the eel, octopus and squid nigiri, Las Vegas roll and denver roll. Half an hour later, nothing has shown up at our table. At least 3 other people have shown up for their pick up orders and have not received them. Finally at 40 mins post our order placement, I went up to ask how long it would take, and I was told that the chef was just starting up on our order!! We ended up taking our order to go and only because I'd already paid for it. I would've appreciated a heads up regarding the wait time. You can't just expect us to sit there waiting for food. We would've gone elsewhere and enjoyed a nice dine in experience. So I have to call this poor service. Regarding the food, they gave us a bowl of complimentary hot and sour soup which was good. The sushi was good as per my brother who ate it all. The Las Vegas roll was excellent and should on anyone's order list. The denver roll was just ok. As you can see from the pictures, the takeout was obviously not as enjoyable as the dine in would've been, because the rolls got squished together. The food is good, but ask up front if they're lagging behind in orders so you're aware of how long you'll be.

So I'm always skeptical about Asian restaurants in small towns that typically don't have Asians. In talking to the person who works here I found out that the owner and chef are Asians. The chef is actually Malaysian also so I was intrigued. Anyway, we ordered a bunch of things to try and were overall pleased with it. The only thing I wasn't so impressed with was the Tom Ka Gai soup. It was fine but it lacked a certain note and flavor profile for the soup that it usually comes with so I think a certain key ingredient was missing. My friend had not tried the soup before so she did like it. I liked the Pork larb dish I got which had a good mix of salty, sweet, spicy and sour flavors. They also treated us to chicken adobo which had just come out of the oven and it was amazing! I prefer an adobo that isn't super vinegary and this fit the bill. The sauce was also reduced more so I liked it a lot. The pancit noodles that came with was very good too. Had a good chat with the owner and chef: pure Asian hospitality!

Prices have been raised and what once was included in a hibachi lunch is now extra. Yeah, so they raised the prices a couple bucks on all entrees BUT now you DO NOT get soup, salad or the yum yum sauce included - it is all ala carte. So that couple bucks extra is for MUCH less. If you want what you once got included you will pay +$2 per entree and then +$3.50 for the salad, +$2.50 for onion soup (the yum yum was extra too, but we didn't get it so now sure on pricing). $8 price increase for the hibachi lunch! OUTRAGEOUS!!! Now that was annoying enough, but the quality was lower too! The light japanese fried rice is now loaded down with onions (not the light leeks that once speckled it). My chicken was tough. The hubby's filet was tender, but something changed with it too because he said it just wasn't the same. The veggie mix was kind of light too and filled with bok choy - which is fine, but I don't want a pile of cabbage as my side. They do not emphasize the changes. They are simply whited out on the menu. It is a great disappointment to a once beloved place. I am sure the once or twice a year my mother comes we might stop in, but it is out of our rotation. Too expensive and not as good as it once was.

Grace was the kindest soul, she took such amazing care of us and went ABOVE AND BEYOND. Me and my family will go out to eat now and say "she was good but not as good as Grace". Second off, The food was AMAZING per usual. I had the Wagyu steak and it was cooked perfectly, I usually hate going out for steak because I find it to never be seasoned as much as I'd like but this took the cake. The blue cheese dip with chips was so delicious, like possibly one of the best things we have ever tasted. We also tried to carrot cake sorbet which I know sounds odd but it was so delicious, you can tell the kitchen staff puts their heart and soul into this food. My husband got the special, which was like a Turkish ricotta stuffed pasta and it was AMAZING. Even my sister who got the wagyu burger, AMAZING. My only critique was the hostess was very rude to my family for no reason when we walked in which almost turned my parents off from trying to the most amazing restaurant.
